Lizard Interview Ripples Across Intarwebs

Blogosphere • Views: 2,242

My interview with Erik Kain has been getting a fair amount of attention; Erik emailed to let me know it was linked by fark.com and other high-traffic sites. Going by Tweetdeck’s search results, there was some Twittering too.

Andrew Sullivan linked to it at Daily Dish, with these comments about neo-Confederate blogger Robert Stacy McCain: Getting Off The Bandwagon - The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan.

McCain’s views are, strictly speaking, fascist in tone and intent. His open declaration that he would be open to the genocide of Palestinians is depraved. That he remains in the polite company of the bloggy right is a sign of just how degenerate much of it has become.

Cough.

Excellent Charles. Maybe one day the right will get their shit together and clean up their act. You will be responsible if that day comes.

McCain is now composing a letter (to be signed, cutely, "yr. hmb. & obt. servt.") to Sullivan telling him how far the drive is from the McCain Plantation to Andy's house.

He'll make the trip right after he gets done with those pesky editors at the newspaper he threatened.

Somewhere Buckley is smiling at the thought.

Thank you, Charles, for reporting on what RSM believes. Those reports helped me see that the man is no good. I could not defend him after hearing his real views, whereas before I might have tried.

Well, I knew he was a nutbag when he was posting on Usenet back in the day, but didn't pay him much mind, because there were even nuttier nutbags than he was in that same newsgroup.

But no doubt it will have 3 - no wait - 4! points of refutation.

Let's see - the first will discuss the subtle injustices that Southerners must bear whenever they order iced tea in northern yankee states. Point 2 will then cleverly invoke Hayek to describe how sweetened iced tea would wipe out non sweetened iced tea if only it competed in a free market. Point 3 will then demand an apology for ever being called a racist, citing points 1 and 2 as irrefutable arguments in support of the proposition. Point 4 would then ponder what way one might spike an unsweetened ice tea in order to get a cute yankee girl nearby to reveal the entire rendering of Che Guevara that is a tatoo on her hindquarters (not that McCain would realize that the girl in question is a lesbian).

14 Dancing along the light of day  Thu, Nov 12, 2009 6:20:32pm

And I'll answer his refutations with my standard answer to Neo-Confederates:

16 palomino  Thu, Nov 12, 2009 6:28:57pm

Kudos. Sullivan is a natural bedfellow for LGF (and I mean that in the best possible way): moderately conservative, thoughtful, non-ideological, and totally turned off by much of the GOP/teabagger hysteria.

17 albusteve  Thu, Nov 12, 2009 6:29:02pm

You forgot the part where he decries the proposed tax on sweetened tea as an Obamunist plot to reduce the South to penury and usher in a new Reconstruction.

You are right. And when you think about the impact that fluoridation has on sweetened tea then it all becomes obvious - it is Moaism.

re: #15 Dark_Falcon

And I'll answer his refutations with my standard answer to Neo-Confederates:

You have to wonder if 500 years from now if these neo-Confederates will still be around re-living the Civil War similar to if the Venetians were still debating their loss to the French in 1509 or other battles that were waged 500 years ago from today.

The Civil War was fought around 146 years ago. During that time the French occupied Mexico. One would be hard pressed to find many Mexicans or French debating the wars and occupation of that time hoping that "once again France could rule Central America!"

For people like RS McCain and other archaic neo-Confederates fantasizing about reliving a confederacy all I can say is The South lost, get over it.

Charles Johnson is a hateful, spiteful little man who uses his ‘custom-designed software’ to form and shape his hand-picked commentariat to echo his own thoughts. It’s a classic methodology to assauge his desire for positive feedback. He’s selected Robert Stacy McCain as his target du jour, and in fairness, Ordinary Gentlemen, you should give RSM an interview as well.

RSM is a better writer and blogger than Charles Johnson (who would have you believe his numerically superior ‘following’ warrants him more attention than his intellect deserves).

To people in Europe, Asia, and Africa, "Yankees" are people from the Western Hemisphere.

To South Americans, "Yankees" are North Americans.

To Washington County, "Yankees" live out on the islands.

To the Islanders, the only "Yankee" is Old Man Crudlup.

Old Man Crudlup was not available for comment, as anyone approaching his cabin can not get past the specially trained attack lobsters he keeps on patrol.

I'll be the first to shit in the punchbowl: I distrust our new "friends" as much as I distrust our old ones. Andrew "Palin's Baby-gate" Sullivan gives the hat tip to the far left Mother Jones. I gave Sullivan a second look for his excellent coverage of the Iran uprising but quickly stopped linking to him because he kept mixing in addle brained and pointless diatribes against neocons and realistic foreign policy. His blog might throw a decent bit of traffic but he's just as classless as Markos "Screw them" Zungia with the addition of stupid and easily debunked conspiracy theories.

Glad you specified the eternal happiness part. One of my college friends' first sign that her husband was having a nervous breakdown was when he started to collect reptiles. At some point she was living in a double-wide trailer with a deeply depressed man and a very large assortment of geckos and small snakes. In Massachusetts. In winter. Them damn Yankees!
Have they always been there?
I grew up in Alex, but have lived in Baton Rouge now for more years than I was in Alex.

I believe some branches of the family have been there since before Columbus landed, yes. My MIL now lives in Hawaii, and my SIL and her family are in Michigan (the U.S. Army was influential in both relocations) but the rest of the family is still in Louisiana.

re: #74 SanFranciscoZionist

Glad you specified the eternal happiness part. One of my college friends' first sign that her husband was having a nervous breakdown was when he started to collect reptiles. At some point she was living in a double-wide trailer with a deeply depressed man and a very large assortment of geckos and small snakes. In Massachusetts. In winter. Which has got to be some religion's version of hell.

Sometimes a sudden obsession is a sign of a problem. Never really encountered many people with lizards. There was always someone around that owned a snake however. I think if someone is having emotional problems they might want to consider a cat or a dog instead. Just one or two mind you because I know cat and dog "collecting" can go over the top as well.

Dominique Swain Dumps Unvaccinated Puppies at Shelter

It sounds like “Alpha Dog” starlet and PETA spokeswoman Dominique Swain needs a refresher course on how to treat animals.

Pop Tarts spies spotted the 29-year-old actress at an animal shelter in Malibu over the weekend, accompanied by her father and a box of eight-week-old, half cocker spaniel puppies that her dog had.

“She was really strung out and just wanted to dump the puppies there, they had never even been to a vet,” an eyewitness tells Tarts. “She was told that it was crucial that they had their shots at four and eight weeks, and they had to be kept away from the other shelter dogs.”

According to the witness, the shelter volunteers asked if Swain could make a donation so the required vaccinations could be performed, otherwise the volunteers at the non profit shelter would have to pay for them.

“She said she had no money, despite [driving in] in her BMW,” the eyewitness said. “She was really rude. Eventually she said she would make a small donation, but just left the pups there and drove off.”

Thank you, Charles, for reporting on what RSM believes. Those reports helped me see that the man is no good. I could not defend him after hearing his real views, whereas before I might have tried.

Yes. On the basis of his neo-confederate sympathies alone, he might be dismissed as a simple crank. But being pals with a neo-nazi is a whole other level of wrong. And that crack about the bank teller is just a not-very-veiled way of saying "Do you want your daughter to marry a...?"

OK I draw too but it's been years since I've done so. Now it's just computer graphics. I always promised myself to get a drawing career started but it's not that easy. Closest I ever got was a meeting with an old sage art agent in San Francisco that thought my illustrations would be good for a Colin Fletcher book.

Not that I could actually play it.

That's a bummer. I dabbled with the piano in my 20s. Cycling actually played a number on my hands too from time to time but it never really got that bad. Right now the neck will effect my nerves which effects the hands so out of the blue from time to time there's some numbness.

It's a matter of ergonomics and keeping track of repetitive tasks. Of course that's a preventative matter and something it's too late by the time problems arrive. Work has been really slow with me this year so I haven't had as many symptoms.

Many years ago I temped at a place that had a couple of professional typists. They were there with hand braces, ergonomic chairs, and the works. They would take required breaks ever 2 hours or some such number.

/...and I'm not even feeling cantankerous tonight, just politically homeless.

THANK YOU. My thoughts almost exactly.

Contrary to what some people here may tell you, Sully is not conservative. Never was.

Mine is the o-o-o-o-ld Cintiq 15x, which can be had for like $400 or less off ebay these days.I don't even want to say how much I paid for mine 3 years ago. 1024x768 (low-res, oof) but it works for me, and fits inside my laptop backpack. There's this Japanese cartooning art app called SAI Paint Tool, that and the Cintiq have about tripled my productivity for all the little illustration freelance stuff I do.
