This track is incredible, for the way Jarrett uses the simplest of simple cadences and melodies but puts them together in moving, unpredictable ways. It's not jazz, really, except in the sense that it's improvised.

Apologies if this was already posted:
Internal Moon Church Memo: Fired Wash Times Publisher Was Escorted Out By Security, Cell Phone Seized

When Washington Times Publisher Thomas McDevitt was fired last Sunday, his successor Jonathan Slevin and two security guards escorted him from the Times headquarters to his car and confiscated his cell phone and computer, according to an internal Unification Church memo provided to TPM by multiple church members.

Giuliani Lies On CNN, John King Lets Him Get Away With It -- Now W/ VideoRudy was just on CNN being interviewed by John King. King asks Rudy if he thinks Sarah Palin is bad for the GOP. Rudy says no, she's great for the GOP. King then asks Rudy about NY-23. Giuliani says that NY-23 is a district with a lot of problems with Obama's health care proposal, and says Even the democratic congressman just elected in NY-23 voted against the Health Care Reform Bill
Lie starts at 1:40

Except Owens was an enthusiastic yes vote on health care reform.

A friend of mine told me why he liked Ron Paul...

I dropped a Truth-Bomb™ on him and got this reply:

Well I finally set about reading this, and as usual where stories about Paul are concerned I find conflicting or unsourced stories and supposed ideals that range from on the money to bat shit crazy. The TNR article would have been more compelling if it was sourced, and that's quite frustrating. Shit man, TNR has quite a sordid history on it's own right. However, most damning is the stuff on the War Room site itself. And for that I must concede that all in all I am seeing the side of him that is full bore bat shit crazy kook.

Weak. He really did give a certain amount of hope to people who don't agree with the GOPs, the Dems or the minor parties. Oh well.

Yeah. Having the Illinois legislature appear in a reality show called Eat Bug 4 Money is also an opportunity to create jobs. Doesn't mean it's a good idea, though.

I love venison but I'm not sure if I'll ever take up hunting. I'm not a big fan of guns or hunting. I wish it was more available around here. there are a few places that sell venison and moose but it's really expensive.

I used to hunt up in MI...we were over run with deer, but it's not for everybody...watching them fall over from a clean shot always sorta bummed me out...such a beautiful animal

sausage is the way to go there...mixed with some pork or even turkey...gotta get some fat in there somehow, but venison sausage is very tasty

Put some pork butt in it for the fat and it makes a tasty burger.

I've seen where deer have overpopulated areas due to hunting restrictions, the condition they get in then is much sadder than seeing one go down.

I was out hiking a couple of weeks ago on a very well-used trail and came upon a deer carcass in a creek bed no more than 10 feet off the trail. It was missing its side, the rest of the body was intact. When I returned an hour later, it was missing its hind quarters. When I returned the next day, it was gone. My more observant companion spotted it downstream, stuck in a low branch of an oak. It was picked clean. Looked like a Halloween decoration.

I don't know about MI, saw it in MA at Cranes Beach. The end result was they hired a professional to kill over 200 deer and had to burn the carcasses due to tick infestation and disease.

of course there are restrictions...but depending on the exact situation you could easily get several tags, bow, gun, blackpowder...just with a shotgun you could take two doe and a buck...if it's your own property there are extra permits available...it gets complicated but MI really does a superb job of maintaining deer herds, but it gets to the point where you just have to kill as many as you can...they have to stay healthy, and thinning is the way you achieve that...disease will go through a deer population like poop through a goose

When did Republicans become such fucking cowards?
Republican outrage grows against Quinn's Gitmo-in-Illinois plan

Governor Pat Quinn's plan to cooperate with the Obama Administration to open Illinois' unused Thomson Federal Prison to terrorists now being held in Guatanamo Bay has created a firestorm of reaction from Republican U.S. House members as well as gubernatorial candidates.
...
And GOP gubernatorial candidate Kirk Dillard opposed the plan, saying this:

"As governor, my first priority would be to ensure the safety and security of Illinois residents. Therefore, I oppose using the Thomson Correctional Center or any Illinois prison to house Al Qaeda suspects. Under a Dillard Administration, we will not make our state a potential target if any of these terror suspects stand trial and are convicted in an Illinois courtroom.

Government forces have killed more than 20 militants in Chechnya, and a bomb blast at a cemetery in a neighboring province killed three relatives visiting the grave of a police officer slain by insurgents, law enforcement authorities said.

Chechnya's Kremlin-backed president said it was possible Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov was among those killed Friday in the fighting in the province's southern mountains. President Ramzan Kadyrov said one of the dead was identified as a comrade who has often been at Umarov's side, according to his office, but he cited no other evidence and said forensics experts would seek to identify other victims.

Chechen Interior Minister Magomed Deniyev said there were no casualties among government forces in the fighting. The reported toll was unusually high, but it comes amid an upsurge of violence in mostly Muslim Chechnya nearly a decade after Russian forces drove an independence-minded regional government from power in the second of two devastating separatist wars.

Truth to tell, I'm not all that conversant with her books myself. I just have an eye for pull quotes. For example, a few years ago I found myself indulging in a hazardous bit of make-believe at work. This helped me snap back to reality:

For in general mortals have a great power of being astonished at the
presence of an effect towards which they have done everything, and at
the absence of an effect towards which they have done nothing but
desire it. Parents are astonished at the ignorance of their sons,
though they have used the most time-honoured and expensive means of
securing it; husbands and wives are mutually astonished at the loss of
affection which they have taken no pains to keep; and all of us in our
turn are apt to be astonished that our neighbours do not admire us. In
this way it happens that the truth seems highly improbable. The truth
is something different from the habitual lazy combinations begotten by
our wishes.

The best answer I've heard is that Pakistan really is an artificial creation, a result of the Brits drawing lines on maps, which resulted in a formal State that was composed of different nations. Now, years later we see the result of this artifice in that the tribe is more important than the abstract concepts of law and State.

Makes no sense whatsoever.

Rudy had some choice words
about this when it was the 93 bombers of the WTC:

-– “‘It should show that our legal system is the most mature legal system in the history of the world,’ he [Giuliani] said, ‘that it works well, that that is the place to seek vindication if you feel your rights have been violated.’” [The New York Times, 3/5/94]

-– “[M]any who were bruised by the traumatic event were certain that no verdict by a jury or punishment by a judge will exorcise the pain and terror that remain. … Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani declared that the verdict ‘demonstrates that New Yorkers won’t meet violence with violence, but with a far greater weapon — the law.’” [The New York Times, 3/5/94]

-– “I think it shows you put terrorism on one side, you put our legal system on the other, and our legal system comes out ahead,” said Giuliani. [CBS Evening News, 3/5/94]

Even in the weeks after Sept. 11, Giuliani “framed the attacks in the language of crime, describing the hijackers as ‘insane murderers’ and calling for restoration of the ‘rule of law.’”

Deer season opens next Saturday here in Wisconsin. I've got family friends with 40 forested acres abutting a county forest. Usually a fair number of Bambies waiting for a chance to fill my freezer.

I love hunting season. I enjoy the woods and consider it a success even if I don't see a deer. I prefer to get a doe personally - usually better eating and far better for herd control. I'll chase squirrel, rabbit, pheasant & duck, too, when I get the chance. The way the herd is growing here, perhaps even elk someday.

I've got my old 1893 7mm Spanish Mauser sighted in at 50 meters, the weather forecast is decent & I'm am looking forward to that dawn.
