Here’s a terrifically weird video for singer Charlotte Gainsbourg’s new song with Beck, directed by Keith Schofield. The iTunes Store has the single; the album comes out early next year.

The missiles hit a house owned by a local tribesman just after midnight in Shana Khuwara village in North Waziristan, said the officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.
Ahmed Noor Wazir, who witnessed the attack, said rescuers pulled three dead bodies and four badly wounded men from the rubble of the house, which was being used by Taliban militants.
Like it. Must have been fun to make. OK guys, let's raid the thrift store and slap some stuff together. You over there, here, take this giant plastic walnut and look confused. Perfect! It's a wrap.
While he never came out about his beliefs until 2005, Beck is actually a second-generation Scientologist; there are a multitude of conspiracy theories online that both he and his record label tried to conceal his Scientologist leanings for most of his career. Clearly the label didn't want anybody to think that Beck, a 100-pound Fraggle who writes acoustic guitar raps about plastic eyeballs spray-painting vegetables, was weird or anything.
Good thing the person controlling the drone from Florida isn't under the care of Dr. Hasan. Hasan would most likely try to have war crimes charges filed as he did with his other patients. No red flag there. Nope. Move along.

I wonder if he told any patient that the patient was a killer.
KSM will not have a fair trial, no matter what the outcome.
The civil legal system is not really set up for this kind of trial. Nor is the military legal system, for that manner. That is the reason a special tribunal had to be established to try Nazi war crimes.
Captain Surman, who was scheduled to be deployed to Afghanistan with Hasan on Nov. 2 told investigators that Hasan had both social and academic issues in his medical training. She said that on one occasion, Hasan told her she was an infidel who would be "ripped to shreds" and "burn in hell" because she was not Muslim.
Sorry, I got confused with that nicety and his you must convert or die shtick. With that said, do you doubt for a moment he said things even worse to his patients?

Andrew McCarthy has been following the Senate hearings on this...it's an unbelievable cluster fuck...read the links and go to the NRO page to check out the rest...Holder is a super idiot...this NYC thing is a real bust, in no way can it be justified
Hmmm...but she didn't say anything earlier to anyone? And if she did, nothing was still done about it? I wonder why? Hmmm, such a mystery there. She must have forgotten. Along with everyone else. Just a coincidence. Move along.

He said that to patients? I thought he said that particular bit to his peers.
Boy, that contagious pre-PTSD sure works fast, doesn't it? And it's so virulent he got infected with it despite the fact that his position was primarily academic and he rarely interacted with patients. And when he did, he actually did things that might set off THEIR actual PTSD.
According to the memo, Hasan hardly did any work: He saw only 30 patients in 38 weeks. Sources at Walter Reed say most psychiatrists see at least 10 times that many patients. When Hasan was supposed to be on call for emergencies, he didn't even answer the phone.
...
What those soldiers need, she says, is a psychiatrist they can trust completely — not a therapist who fails to show up and abandons his patients.
"This kind of behavior could, in fact, set off a stress reaction" in a patient, she says. "It could be a trigger to a post-traumatic stress reaction."
In other words, he was harming his (few) patients long before he just started shooting everyone. And the media STILL tried to make him the victim.

The second won't open for me so I don't know if Surman reported this attrocious behavior to her superiors. Did she?

Moldova's army is feeding its soldiers onions and garlic to help them ward off swine flu.
Defense Ministry chief doctor Col. Sergiu Vasislita says about 0.9 ounces of onions and 0.5 ounces of garlic will be added to each soldier's daily diet. That roughly corresponds to a small onion and a couple of garlic cloves.
[...]
About 6,500 troops serve in the army of Moldova, a small former Soviet republic bordering Romania and Ukraine.
Well, I guess if it works for vampires and werewolves then it should be good for the flu too, yes?
[...] Vaccinations are one response to the threat of the flu, but they are far from the only one. You can take a number of steps to keep your immune system strong, so you'll be ready if one or 100 of these pathogens come knocking at your door.
[...]
Functional foods first: Functional foods provide health benefits beyond basic nutrition. Mushrooms are a perfect example. [...]
Whey protein is another functional food that's been getting accolades in the nutritional press for a few years. [...]
When the bugs come knocking: When the first sniffle does show up in my family, I reach for the elderberry syrup or extract. [...]
Don't Forget the Garlic: The next time you feel a cold coming on, another terrific resource is garlic, which both antiviral and immune-stimulating properties. [...]
A Final Word: There's simply no overstating the importance of a good night's sleep. Sleep deprivation can mean more than just drowsiness in the morning, it can also lower your immune response, elevate your stress hormones, and make a bad day feel so much worse.
There is no doubt that diet is critical for good health, but to ascribe to specific foods magical properties is simply a hold-over from medieval days. In the last article quoted though only the last paragraph has direct bearing on an influenza infected person's immediate ability to combat the disease.
I'm pretty sure it's a half truth. It's actually been going on for a long time. However it's only in very rare and specific circumstances when there's a possibility that a detainee could be turned over to US civilian authority.

he's coming off as a real rube...this whole thing really stinks of vindictive politics
Well, he's getting it kicked by the author of the article, but I don't see where any of the Committee members actually raised any objections. That, in fact, would be surprising, given that it's controlled by Democrats who aren't (yet) willing to openly criticize the Administration.
True. Lugar, tho, is as safe as any politician can be. His wife could have mowed down a girl scout troop delivering cookies and he'd still win his race by 20. I don't think he even has to run again for another few years.
Legendary B-movie director/producer Roger Corman, who has over 100 low-budget horror movies to his name with titles like Attack of the Crab Monsters and Attack of the Giant Leeches, did the unthinkable on Saturday: he received an Academy Award.

With any luck, that will follow.

You mean it's not now? I thought pretty much everywhere you lost your license for a good chunk of time, paid a good fine, and maybe even did a few days in county for multiple offenses. It's mostly the "we can't/don't want to prosecute DUI" bucket.

Yes, but in Florida, you don't blow, you lose your DL for 18 months.
same in indiana. I got pulled over coming out of a bar. I went in to eat dinner with some friends and had nothing to drink but coke. As I'm about to exit the lot I see the cop parked across the street so I come to a complete stop and used my signal to make a right turn. As I pulled out I barely tapped the curb with the side of my tire, the cop flips on his lights and pulls me over. I was PISSED, It almost ended with a tasing.
if not for the known actors and higher budgets, over half the crap Hollywood puts out would be considered B movies...Titanic comes to mind...my daughter made me take her to that awful POS

You really think so? Awesome. I thought I was all alone in that belief.

I don't live there anymore...but, yes, there was often jail time involved
The cop told me he pulled me over for weaving. I explained, not at all politely, that I couldn't have been swerving since I didn't make it an entire vehicle length out of the lot before he pulled me over. When he asked me "how much have you been drinking tonight" I told him it was none of his fucking business and it went downhill from there.
He has to have a valid reason to make a stop. He didn't have one. He didn't even try to follow me to make one up either. He was trying to pump up his arrest record. I'm still pissed and it happened almost 15 years ago. I can hold a grudge damnit. ;)
I got pulled over on the interstate once. Cop said " you know how fast you were going?" I said "75." He said I was doing 90. I told him I was surprised my car could do 90. He said "Get out of the car!!"
Since MADD has been allowed to set police policy, leaving a bar and getting in a car is officially probable cause, as the "drinking" is in plain sight. It's wrong, but I see it on ride alongs.
I've been told told I face much the same fate for not accepting Christ. Nothing new there.
Did these same folk, in their capacity as shrinks, frivolously report soldiers for war crimes, use their clinical status to proselytize, or shoot up a base? There's a pattern to this man's conduct, and one thread running throughout.
If you had been drunk and the cop had ignored and you went on to kill someone,...
I dunno, Mandy. With that many if's, you could justify pulling over anyone driving down the road. Anyone might be drunk and might go on to kill somebody. Someone driving home from work at 6:15pm may need to be pulled over just to be sure..

I don't doubt that at all. My best friend and brother in law are both cops and both honest, decent guys but they'll both tell you how they'll lie and say whatever they have to in order to get people to willingly give up their rights. I love them both and I understand they're trying to do their jobs but not every cop in uniform is an honest, decent guy.

Sorry to hear about that. But police do the same thing around here sometimes - they target a particular bar because there have been a lot of previous arrests involving drunk drivers who just came from that place, or in once case there were a lot of neighborhood complaints about customers leaving the bar and relieving themselves on porches and cars on the sidestreets. And the cops behave the same way - the slightest infraction will get you pulled over for further perusal. It sends two messages: one to the drivers, that drunk driving isn't tolerated; and the second to the establishment, which can find itself facing a number of unpleasant charges and losing it's liquor license for serving people who are impaired.
One place I know of went through this exercise repeatedly, and eventually shut down thanks to a blizzard of legal complaints from surrounding homeowners, the police and the city council who granted the liquor license.

Sometimes, discretion is the better part of valor. Like crossing the street in front of a speeding car. "Well, I had the right-of-way..."

I thought you said you clipped the curb. That's all the reason he needs to pull you over.

Wow, the three year old was too upset, but the two year old helped. And after three caesarians!
Oh yeah, I'm sure it happens all the time. You're right that they use these kinds of tactics because that's what people WANT them to do. It's all a great idea until it's them sitting in cuffs or in a holding cell when they haven't done anything wrong.
I like cops now...back in the day, I had so many run ins and arrests and bad memories, for all kinds of stuff...people always said I did it to myself but I reject authority and probably always will...no cop was better than me because he had the law on his side and a pistol...and I've seen many bad cops to prove it...but I've changed...the police here in ABQ are a great bunch of people and I always say hello and jive with them a bit...so far so good
No, just sayin'. A lot of people believe that the police are acting capriciously when, in fact, they are doing their jobs in a perfectly reasonable manner.
haley barbour is on hardball. Matthews just asked him about the poll in a previous thread about ACORN stealing the election for Obama. Nice side-step response from Haley.
He's a natural! I imagine him right out of med school, telling a patient he delivered his first baby twenty-five years ago.
And they're lucky, a vaginal birth after c-section can be tricky.
When I was born, they wouldn't allow a vaginal birth after a c-section. My big-headed big brother got stuck, and I was the second of seven c-sections. Looks like "allow" wasn't an operative term here!

They'll do it sometimes now, but many doctors still avoid them if at all possible.
But yeah, in this case, I don't think there was much of an option!

Get a rescue cat from a shelter. Mine is from one... My smartest ever BTW.
my last cat was a female barn cat...she was half wild and lived to 23...I still miss a lot...I have a real cool painting of her my ex wife did...Sophie
I have yet to be pulled over, by anyone other than state troops, and have an officer strictly abide by the terry stop rules. You can call me a stickler if you want but I'll never willingly give up even the smallest portion of my civil rights. It's the one pet peeve I have and I get all OCD about it.

No cat = more lizards. Have your lizard friends gone into hiding for the winter? I saw one in our yard last weekend. Usually they're hibernating by now.

That's what we call it here. When I'm out of state and ask what kind of pop a restaurant serves, people look at me like I just let out a really loud fart.

it gets pretty warm in my semi enclosed back patio...all thes rock piled around and my slider is always open, they come right in for a while in the summer...funny you should ask because just yesterday I looked over and a road runner was perched on a chair waiting...I shoo'd him off but he was waiting for my lizards...mo fo...I like those little guys, they like to come on and snoop around

I went to Canada and ordered a CC and coke. They said "Rye and coke?" I said no, a CC and coke. That went on for about 3 minutes.
Get two - kittens - it's no more problem to take care of 2 cats than it is one cat. I know. . .we have 5 that have sort of just showed up over time.
We just got a 12 week old kitten, and our 8 year old cat is not thinking this was such a swell idea. No over-the-top violence, but lots of ear boxing, hissing, spitting and those really low frequency growls cats do when they're super pissed.
It's only been about three weeks, so it's a little early to tell how this is going to work out. But I'll listen to hints if anyone has them.

I wish I could get another cat. My one has the FIV, so can't really get another one. He really loves other cats too - sits at the window and yeeaoooweeerrrs at them. A bit heartbreaking.

You will simply have to wait it out. They will work it out. They will never be close buddies, but they will learn to live with each other. Probably better if they each have their own bowl for food - my 5 cats have their own "spots", it sort of happened naturally. We still have a few of those low-frequency growling contests, and the occasional spitting and ear-boxing, but it doesn't go beyond that.
I'd love to have 5 dogs but I've learned two dogs are more trouble than one. Plus, I'd need a much bigger place.
5 cats are just about as difficult as one cat to deal with.
5 dogs would be a completely different matter. We have one dog, and he takes as much effort as all 5 cats combined. We love them all, though. And one of the cats has adopted him as her BFF.

Yeah, we feed them in different locations, and they do seem to be staking out different territories, but the kitten of course is all over the place because...she's a kitten. And she likes to chase the older cat, which is usually what kicks off the conflicts.

I have a feeder and a couple of water bowls that I fill up, and they replenish the feeding/water bowls by themselves. If you had two cats who ate inside, a large feeder and a couple of water bowls - you could leave them for several days. Litter boxes - one litter box for each cat, plus one more is what is recommended, but we find we're OK with just 2 litter boxes. They would need checking on about every 3 days. Have some toys around for them to play with, or they will find and destroy the toilet paper rolls.

Prances around like he owns the joint...Why I ever let a friend dump him off on me I'll never know..

My male is cat friendly, he's everything friendly. My female thinks everything smaller than her, other than dogs, is food.

I'm from New York, it was soda. When I moved to Texas in 1974, it was pop, and now Colorado it's back to soda.
Yeah. Nature's way, though, often involves one of them eating the other one.
that won't happen...trust me...are they city cats, confined indoors?...all my pets were come and go...my two cats were outdoors as much as they could be
Or them getting into an actual pissing contest. We had a cat, but since we both work, the wife decided that it needed a companion to keep it company while we were gone. They hated each other and would "mark" their territory on a daily basis. They both ended up going to a shelter and the carpet is still stained in multiple spots.

I have found that male cats, for some reason, are much more people friendly than female cats. But they will wander and seem to have more energy, want to "play" (i.e., bite) more than the female cats do.

Yeah, they're indoor cats. I think things will eventually work out. And if not, I can always put both of them in the cat carrier for a cage match.

I know that's true for dogs, at least in my experience. Female dobes are much more protective and even more territorial than the males. Fixed or not.

That hasn't happened at all, and I was dreading just such a reaction. They're both females, which helps a bit in that regard, I think. Keeping fingers crossed that things stay that way.

You know how to stop that. You and your wife, when you came home everyday, should have proceeded to remark the territory. Drives them crazy every time. And share a few beers with each other and it can get really kinky.

yes...I have three big windows across the back of my sun room, right here behind me...it's very quiet here...last summer there was a giant boom/crash against a window and I turned just in time to see a hawk make off with a dove...he hit it so hard they slammed against the window and the dove left a perfect impression on the glass in dust, wings spread out...mutha naycha...I have not seen quail here but my ex has them hanging around...she's in Rio Rauncho

tons of birds out on the back forty...feeding them is just a circus, I have several feeders but they go nuts...and I provide plenty of fresh water...my favorite pest is a little grey squirrel that comes and goes through my house...from my computer desk I can see part of my stove up in the kitchen...I heard a banging one time and there he was sitting on a tray munching on my prized peanuts I roast...what a picture!, but my camera was in my car...
For me male cats are the way to go and female dogs. I've never had a dobe though.
I had a pic of my two as my avatar up until this afternoon. I'm a really bad breed snob, I won't get anything but a dobe. I got my first about 15 years ago and just fell in love. Very smart breed, I like that.
You know how to stop that. You and your wife, when you came home everyday, should have proceeded to remark the territory. Drives them crazy every time. And share a few beers with each other and it can get really kinky.
Tried to do that using Oust, didn't work. They'd just remarked the spot when we weren't around. As for the beer, the wife doesn't drink.
Hey, fellow Doberman enthusiast here. They are wonderful, intelligent companions. One of my favorite memories is of Heather, our large red, taking blueberries gently by her huge incisors. Pure delight in her eyes when she bit down!
Throwing objects such as this are capable of damaging expensive musical equipment and musicians. Any more of this and there will be no more music. -- FZ, Autumn 1981 at Northrup auditorium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After someone threw a plunger on stage about two-thirds of the way through the show, he stopped the band with a wave of his hand speaking in the general direction that the dangerous object was thrown, while holding it in his hand. This did not prove to be an amusing act and Franks mood hardened. - It was, however, an evening of excellent, serious musicianship around the release of 'Shut up and play your guitar'
