That reputation as a quitter seems to keep coming up to bite her in the ass.

2 albusteve  Fri, Nov 20, 2009 2:48:31pm

is that tour bus actually 95ft long?

3 albusteve  Fri, Nov 20, 2009 2:50:29pm

studies have proven that people who reject proper cursive letters in their name, will quit on you in a heartbeat...let me find that link

4 reine.de.tout  Fri, Nov 20, 2009 2:51:28pm

Not the first thing she's quit . . .
Probably won't be the last.
This is awful - people purchased her book and then stood in line for hours and she just left without signing their books? Unconscionable.

Why do I have the feeling she's going to blame someone for this?

This is why angry people make for a bad fan base.

8 bosforus  Fri, Nov 20, 2009 2:53:07pm

As quickly and fondly as a rock star is loved, so also, is s/he hated. The fickle temperaments of adoring fans.

9 Gus  Fri, Nov 20, 2009 2:53:46pm

Right, Sarah Palin, the alleged "second coming" of Ronald Reagan. The half-term governor of Alaska in a tricked out bus in the middle of Noblesville, Indiana leaving behind 300 of her fans with unsigned books co-written an associate of neo-Confederate RS McCain.

Might not be quite as rich after all those upset people return the books they bought.

13 Gus  Fri, Nov 20, 2009 2:57:59pm

She complained about being governor. She complained about her part in the presidential campaign. She complained about the McCain staff. She complains about the alleged liberal media. She complained about Katie Couric, Charlie Gibson, etc. Her book is pages and pages of grievances and more complaints.

No doubt she didn't feel up to carrying that night to finish signing the books. Probably began with a complaint on her part, "I'm tired of signing books. Let's go."

I see a pattern here.

14 ssn697  Fri, Nov 20, 2009 2:58:15pm

I couldn't help laughing at the people interviewed, saying they stood in the freezing rain all day only to not get an autograph. "I feel like not supporting Sarah now."

Cuz your political beliefs are centered around getting a book signed...

At least somebody is finding her politically useful:

Organizing for America
[Name Redacted]--

Right now, Sarah Palin is on a highly publicized, nationwide book tour, attacking President Obama and his plan for health reform at every turn.

It's dangerous. Remember, this is the person who coined the term "Death Panels" -- and opened the flood gates for months of false attacks by special interests and partisan extremists.

Whatever lie comes next will be widely covered by the media, then constantly echoed by right-wing attack groups and others who are trying to defeat reform.

As we approach the final sprint on health reform, we can't afford more deception and delay. We need to be ready for anything -- and have the resources to respond with ads, events, and calls to Congress when the attacks come.

So we're setting a big goal: $500,000 in the next week to help push back against Sarah Palin and her allies. Please chip in $5 to help reach our goal.

Please donate

Earlier this month, Palin publicly said that she hopes health reform will be "dead on arrival." And since then, she's been working fiercely toward that goal.

On Tuesday, Palin went on Rush Limbaugh's radio show where she outrageously -- and falsely -- suggested that Americans could "face jail time as punishment" if they don't buy insurance.

Palin has many more interviews scheduled on Hannity and other conservative shows in the next few weeks, with more platforms to go after the President. As soon as she does, the rest of our opponents will likely parrot those attacks.

We need to be prepared. And we're counting on you help. Can you chip in $5?

OK, so you've got a schedule to keep, and someone managed to do make a promise on your behalf that you can't keep. So you...get on the bus in a huff and just leave? No - you ask the crowd for it's attention, explain how sorry you are that things have taken longer than expected, but you really must go now and please check with the store's staff so I can personally mail you the signed copy of my book that you waited so patiently for, at no charge.

How effing hard is that to figure out?

From the Balloon-Juice's Lexicon:

Wingularity, the- the point at which the insanity from the far right and those controlling the Republican Party [continues] to grow exponentially until it reaches an unsustainable weight and collapses upon itself. This is also known as the Purity Spiral, wherein the density of wingnut increases compared to mainstream conservatives to the point of pure wingnut. As the ratio rises, this creates a phenomenon wherein no logic or sanity can penetrate or escape. When rightwing argument has become completely inaccessible to the uninitiated, it has reached the Wingularity. Coined by commenters JM and Joe K.

re: #36 scienceboy

Actually, Palin's corrosive presence on the right is a major impediment to getting reasonable politicians elected to defeat many of the proposals conservatives are currently so concerned about. Dragging her out into the sunlight is an excellent idea, and serves the purpose of exposing her hypocrisy and idiocy so no one can claim they weren't aware of it when she and others aligned with her manage to drag the GOP down the drain with them. It may, in fact, even prevent such an outcome.

Meanwhile, if you don't care for the contents of this site, it's easy to start your own blog. Cheap, too. Feel free to apply yourself and produce something with content more to your liking.

It's funny because I was thinking the same thing. Sarah Palin is almost the Republican version of Obama. The comparison is in that she is seen as the all knowing "faith healer" that will cure all ills with the sweep of her hand.

I was thinking of a nickname already for Palin: The Complainer in Chief. It's almost like I expect her to start performing "healing sessions" and start "speaking in tongues" on this book tour.

Hardly the most post-partisan people in the world... but Boenher, Mconnel and Bachman heading up the GOP causus are hardly shining lights.

If the Democrats were being trully obnoxious to Republicans who want to deal on issues i'd agree with you - but they are just about as bad as each other.

There are only a very few people on the GOP side in Congress who want to deal in good faith on anything that comes from the white house or upper echelon of the Democratic Leadership.

Last time out the Democrats backed a Republican president on Immigration reform, Iraq, Afghanistan, no child left behind... the list is longer.

Excellent compact assessment. Imagery over substance. While this has always been the case in politics it's becoming more apparent with modern society since that's how our celebrity based culture is run on a day to day basis. The icon in these cases become the superheros that will cure and fix all problems that we face with almost magical powers.

re: #79 jonik

I just don't get it. The woman ran for VP and has written a book about it. She has done nothing to merit the scorn of the left and especially the MSM. The AP devoted 11 reporters to fact check her book. She is the governor of a state, not some tyrant who wants to dominate the world. What is her great crime that deserves this much attention. She's a polititician; nothing more, nothing less. GET OVER IT!

Actually, the Left loves her, and is hoping and praying that she manages to get the nomination, because it would mean not only Democratic victory, but a huge Democratic mandate and the weakening of the GOP for years to come, probably decades.

And she is not the governor of Alaska. Apparently, the job was too hard for her, so she quit halfway through her term.

In similar fashion, she quit halfway through her own book signing event. Her great crime is incompetence and shallowness.

Her ascendancy is the most disastrous thing I can imagine happening to the GOP.

No, just in his fifties, actually. He just looks older because of all the damage he's taken.

And yes, his novels are some of my favorites. He writes with an astonishing range in his characters, too-- everything from the 'child of light' in the banking one to the walking dead man in the American horse-thief one.

EU rejects Palestinian statehood appeal

The European Union rejected requests Tuesday that it support a Palestinian plan for gaining recognition as an independent state at the U.N. Security Council without Israeli consent.

Sweden's Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, told reporters "the conditions are not there as of yet" for such a move. "I would hope that we would be in a position to recognize a Palestinian state, but there has to be one first, so I think that is somewhat premature."

Every time you turn around she is "writing" something on Facebook, or being a "KingMaker" or showing up on Oprah.

Well here's one possibility. This gives us the most bites at the Apple.

He gets tried in Federal Court on terrorism trials for 9/11.

If that fails, he gets tried again in a military tribunal for war crimes.

If that fails then he gets held indefinitely as a POW during ongoing conflict - which according to him doesn't end until the United States is destroyed - so he's locked up forever.

I suspect if you do it in any other order you might not keep all those options on the table. Just one idea.

Mccarthy opens with a screede about "leftist lawyers" derailing Bush Policy... who's policy as i pointed out above was knocked down in the ultra liberal Supreme Court in Rumsfeld Vs Hamdan on several specific points of law.

Also refusing to acknowledge any of the people there were innocent - as many were - and let go.

It's light on the legalesse to be substantive argument - the invective isn't helpful - and the fact that his Boss screwed up the creation of Military Commissions in the first instance is glossed over.

He doesn't lay out legally why people who can be proven to be involved in conspiracy against the US should not be tried there. He meanders around ignoring that many people ended up at Guantanamo after being sold down river for bounties in tribal areas and that once detained people who were not caught with gun in hand were not told why.

Idon't have a huge problem with people who fired guns at american or british soldiers being picked up and held for long periods of time without a defence lawyer. These trials in question are not the guys picked up in Afghanistan with AK-47's... these guys were involved in a conspiracy to mass murder.

I have read valuable legal materials until my eyes blead in my first couple of jobs and as a student - Mcarthy's writings are valueless as a study of Judicial policy, his emotiveness and all lack of objectivity provide for that.

I don't have any particular beef with tribunals, properly applied. I do have some issues with the MCA. But go back and reread what I wrote. You are allowed to charge people for different crimes in different venues and, frankly, you are sometimes even allowed to charge people with slightly different charges in the same crime in different venues (see: when a state court screws up a murder case and you are able to then bring federal hate crimes charges). So yes, in answer to your question, what I laid out above is absolutely constitutional. Charge him for 9/11 murders in federal court. Charge him for war crimes in a tribunal.

I saw all of the above but do it in the order that will give you the most bites at the Apple.

Female Swedish soldiers renew calls for fireproof undies

Women in the Swedish army are demanding the provision of military underwear designed for female forms after 30 years of having to slip into something less comfortable.

Asked whether women were in a rush to get access to specially tailored underwear, Katja Adolphson of the Swedish Conscription Council (Värnpliktsrådet) replied: "We've been in a rush for the last thirty years."

Despite the fact that they've been part of the Swedish Armed Forces for decades, female soldiers still have no choice but to don men's underwear or risk the perils of combat in flammable civilian bras and panties.

Female soldiers were previously told that their underwear wait would be over by the spring of 2009, but so far the goods have been unforthcoming.

"Each battalion has been given money to buy underwear for women, but since there are still no flame resistant alternatives available they have had to make do with civilian bras and panties," said Adolphson, who is responsible for air force-related matters within the Council.

She explained that, until the situation was resolved, women would continue to run the risk of suffering skin burns if their underwear caught fire in a combat situation.

Princess Madeleine should investigate.
As a public service to the Lizard Nation, I will be monitoring this situation and will report any updates as they become available.

This was not "come one, come all, and take your chances". These were 1,000 preselected people who had bought books in advance and had wristbands identifying them as the ones with every expectation of getting them signed. If Sarah's widdle hand got tired, she should have retreated to the bus and pleasured herself for half an hour, not just taken off.

live human bait.

Wolves don't seem particularly interested in humans. As far as I know, there has never been a person killed by wolves in North America.

As far as hunting goes, a guy I used to work with used to go down to the Carolinas once a year to hunt wild boar. His weapon of choice was a spear. Which is about as hard core as anything I can imagine.

Are you kidding me? The left acts like its terrified of her. Who else is getting this much attention. Seriously the left has substituted Sarah Palin for George Bush in their daily rants. Just watch MSNBC for 10 minutes. Every show, and I mean every show starts off with Sarah Palin news. The left is sh*tting their pants thinking Sarah Palin may get the nomination. I don't think she should; I wouldn't vote for her, but the left is terrified of her; watch the news and listen to the talking heads.

Do you not know anyone on the left or something. Do you know how happy we would be for Sarah Palin to get the Republican Presidential nomination? It would be good times in liberal land as she as seen as a candidate who doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of winning.

It wouldn't be the first time liberal land was wrong. I suspect the same thing was said about Nixon after he got thrashed by Kennedy; or about Reagan in 1976. And a lot of people, right and left, were saying the same thing about Obama when he became a candidate for President.

Palin is an adequate target for the media. Every minute they talk about her is one less they need to defend a unqualified amature in-over-his-head President. It is funny how some of the things you hear on MSNBC about Palin could still be said about Obama almost one year into his first term.

Who knows what will happen with Palin. The media right or wrong has already defined her. She will have an uphill battle convincing those people that know only what NBC, ABC, and CBS thinks is fit to air.

Obama will go the way the economy goes. If the economy rebounds then
he will get re-elected. If it gets worse or stagnates then he is in trouble.

I don't think she's hiding young-earth creationism. More like she's trying to say she sees the hand of God in Man's creation, but she has heard all her life that evolution necessarily removes the "hand of God" from the process. If her viewpoint evolves to " I see evolution as the method God used to create man, I would be a lot happier about it, because this is what she says about the rest of the earth, but leaves ambiguous about Man. This is actually fairly mainstream for Christians in the US. But she says directly, even in the Runner's world interview that she not a YEC.

Anyway, she also says about the whole birth control thing- I couldn't say "abstinence" because that drove the left nuts, and I couldn't say "contraception" because the Republican Party said it sent a double message! She's not just a tool for the Republican Party at this point. She thought that totally sucked. There really is an independent person in there, and I'm interested in how she can develop that.

378 Our Precious Bodily Fluids  Fri, Nov 20, 2009 8:09:29pm

I have never, and will never understand the people who adore and gush over her like it's 1964 and she's the Beatles.

I liked John McCain up until Palin was announced as running mate. I immediately thought that either 1) McCain wasn't making his own decisions; 2) it was a transparently cynical ploy to butt-kiss the right-wingers who had spent the last 10 years calling him everything but "friend"; or 3) he decided he didn't really want to be President after all, and there was no face-saving way for him to back out... thus, a terrible VP was necessary.

I continue to be flabbergasted by those, including several in my immediate family, who somehow think Sarah Palin is presidential material (while simultaneously crowing about how Obama is supposedly such a featherweight).

Even more astonishing to me are the people who insist that the reason people criticize her are because they are "AFRAID" of her, as though she is a juggernaut of irrefutable intellectual prowess whose acumen can do nothing but force the intelligentsia into cowardly tail-tucked retreat.

Really, it's like asserting that the reason fans of Stravinsky and Mahler dislike Britney Spears is only because they're afraid she'll demonstrate how inherently inferior they are.

I didn't say they were right, I said they weren't scared of her or of a nomination. They may be wrong but I think the independents spoke last time she tried to enter the race as VP and they sure aren't going to be more enthused with her as a Presidential candidate. IMHO Palin stands a real chance.

388 acacia  Sat, Nov 21, 2009 7:25:07am

Talk about a nontroversy. This surely is one. The article cited shows she was there for 3 1/2 hours signing books just like she was promised. I'm pretty sure that's a long time for a book signing. The article then states:

'Several dozen people who had wristbands were turned away.
"They didn't have this organized well enough," said Sue Hendricks. "It was just not done right."

This seems to be a Borders problem not a Palin problem. Aside from apologizing, which she apparently didn't do, I don't see her doing anything wrong. What 40-50 people didn't get a book signed because Borders handed out too many wristbands? Not an issue. Besides, I'm sure Borders erred on the side of handing out too many than too few so that there wouldn't be a frenzy after the wristband people had their books signed.

She's definitely got to send an apology, pronto, and find some way of making it up to the people who waited in line and had wristbands - actually, their having wristbands helps hugely, it makes it possible to know who exactly is owed a signed copy of the book and maybe a personal note or something.

Here is the form I used to do the handwriting analysis.
[Link: handwriting.feedbucket.com...]

Here is the embedded code it returned: (Preview is my friend)

What does your handwriting say about YOU?

Here are the results of the analysis:
You fill every waking moment with activity.
You are a social person who likes to talk and meet others.
You are negative, fearful, resistant, doubtful, and/or selfish.
You are reserved, shy, cautious, and thoughtful.
You are self-confident and like to bring attention to yourself.

The third one seems the most negative, but I'm sure you could spin it either way. I share her same doubts and fears about the direction of the country.
