Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller’s Rally: ‘Islam Is of the Devil’

Weird • Views: 9,167

Here we see a rally in Columbus Ohio, starring “anti-jihad” bloggers Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller, ostensibly supporting Rifqa Bary (the teenage girl they’re cynically using to promote their anti-Muslim agenda), at which many of the demonstrators were wearing T-shirts labeled: “ISLAM IS OF THE DEVIL.”

These are the seriously insane and hate-filled people Spencer and Geller hang out with. Notice in the second photo with Spencer: a fake “Secret Service” guy with phony earpiece, and a Sarah Palin lookalike in the background.

UPDATE at 12/3/09 8:30:07 pm:

The “ISLAM IS OF THE DEVIL” signs are the work of this fundamentalist church.

And the Brits still have the nerve to say Americans don't understand irony.

These folks are so concerned, they can't even spell Ms. Bary's name correctly.

Spencer looks pretty involved in the rally.
Is that his stockbroker on the phone?

Prepare for the standard Robert Spencerism about those not being his words (while failing to condemn them) and then demanding someone reproduce a quote of him saying precisely that sequence of words (close doesn't count - it never does, yet he will still fail to condemn them).

Same circus. Different town. Same clown act.

Sharia sucks
Freedom talks
Opportunity knocks
Rifqa walks
Free Rifqa

...so... what's this "opportunity" this so-called poem is referring to?

How utterly pathetic that this is what motivates people in life.

To be consumed with such hatred, in a land of freedom, and in an era of true prosperity, some people just need an enemy to find meaning. That is sad,

Since tomorrow (Dec 4) marks 16 years since Frank Zappa departed for his final tour, and Dec 21 would have marked his 69th birthday, I declare this to be appropriate, and on-topic:

Whoever we are, wherever we're from
We shoulda noticed by now our behavior is dumb
And if our chances expect to improve
It's gonna take a lot more than tryin' to remove
The other race
Or the other whatever
From the face of the planet altogether

They call it THE EARTH, which is a dumb kinda name
But they named it right 'cause we behave the same
We are dumb all over
Dumb all over, yes we are
Dumb all over, near 'n far
Dumb all over, black 'n white
People, we is not wrapped tight

Nerds on the left
Nerds on the right
Religious fanatics
On the air every night
Sayin' the Bible tells the story
'N makes the details sound real gory
'Bout what to do if the geeks over there
Don't believe in the book we got over here

You can't run a race without no feet
'N pretty soon there won't be no street
For dummies to jog on
Or doggies to dog on
Religious fanatics can make it be all gone
(I mean it won't blow up 'N disappear
It'll just look ugly For a thousand years)

You can't run a country by a book of religion
Not by a heap or a lump or a smidgeon
Of foolish rules of ancient date
Designed to make you all feel great
While you fold, spindle and mutilate
Those unbelievers from a neighboring state

TO ARMS! TO ARMS!
Hooray! That's great
Two legs ain't bad unless there's a crate
They ship the parts to mama in
For souvenirs: two ears (Get Down!)
Not his, not hers (but what the hey?)
The Good Book says:
"It gotta be that way!"
But their book says:
"REVENGE THE CRUSADES . . .
With whips 'n chains 'n hand grenades . . . "
TWO ARMS? TWO ARMS?
Have another and another
Our God says:
"There ain't no other!"
Our God says
"It's all okay!"
Our God says
"This is the way!"

It says in the book:
"Burn 'n destroy . . .
'N repent, 'n redeem 'n revenge, 'n deploy
and rumble thee forth
To the land of the unbelieving scum on the other side
'Cause they don't go for what's in the book
'N that makes 'em BAD
So verily we must choppeth them up
And stompeth them down
Or rent a nice French bomb
To poof them out of existance
While leaving their real estate just where we need it
To use again
For temples in which to praise
OUR GOD
("Cause he can really take care of business!")

And when his humble TV servant
With humble white hair
And humble glasses
And a nice brown suit
(And maybe a blonde wife who takes phone calls)
Tells us our God says it's okay to do this stuff
Then we gotta do it,
'Cause if we don't do it,
We ain't gwine up to hebbin!
(Depending on which book you're using at the time . . . Can't use theirs . . . it don't work . . . it's all lies . . . Gotta use mine . . . )
Ain't that right?
That's what they say
Every night . . .
Every day . . .
Hey, we can't really be dumb if we're just following God's Orders
Hey, Let's get serious , God knows what he's doin' . . .
He wrote this book here
An' the book says:
"He made us all to be just like Him," so . . .
If we're dumb . . .
Then God is dumb . . .
(An' maybe even a little ugly on the side)

39 Surabaya Stew  Thu, Dec 3, 2009 8:41:49pm

Can't believe I used to read JW; but in the old days, Spencer used to hide his hate behind the fact that he had studied the material in question and was therefore qualified to say anything he felt like saying re: Islam. Ever since Obama's election victory, the man doesn't try and hide his hate anymore.

Advice on this kind of thing from the living person I respect most-
The Dalai Lama

So, in order to promote non-violence and reduce violence, ultimately we have to address motivation through education, through awareness. Here, I want to share with you about the concept of war. I feel, I believe, that in ancient time, when people remained separately, more or less independently, there was no need for other people's cooperation. You can survive, you can live, completely independently. Under those circumstances, the concept of war, destruction of your enemy, and the victory of your side were a real possibility. Now, today's world is no longer that kind of reality. Your survival, your success, your progress, is very much related with others' well being. Therefore, under these circumstances, even your enemy-who is politically different, or for some other reason you categorize as an enemy-in the economic field and in some other fields, you are still very much inter-dependent. Under these circumstances, destruction of your enemy is actually destruction of yourself. Judging from that viewpoint, the concept of "we" and "they" no longer exists. So the concept of war, destruction of the other side, is not relevant to today's situation. Therefore, firstly, I think it is very important to make clear the concept of war: not only is it a painful experience, but also it is self-destruction.

And then when we talk about non-violence, peace, this does not mean that we remain indifferently, passively. Problems and contradictions always remain there. I believe that as long as human beings remain there, as long as human intelligence remains there, some kind of conflict, some kind of contradiction always remains there. And if we look at contradictions or different ideas, they are not necessarily negative. Even if we look at our body, there are many elements co-existing. These elements are opposing one another, they are contradictory. I think the forces, which contradict one another, are the basis of further development. Things remain more balanced, and that is healthy. Therefore, as long as this smart human brain remains there, some kind of contradiction is always there. Even within one single person. Because of the power of imagination, the power of vision, you get some kind of different ideas: in the morning, something different; and in the evening, something different. There are big differences-contradiction. Sometimes, the contradictions are so big, and if you have no ability to overcome that, then suicide also sometimes happens. So, contradictions, disagreements, are always there.

Strange thing is, I have another very close friend who is also a former Muslim who's now a Christian, but who is much more moderate. But even when he was Muslim he was moderate. I think it has more to do with temperament and cultural surroundings than just the conversion experience. Though I do agree that converts are generally more dogmatic.

My favorite Christian singer, Derek Webb, has a song called "Freddy Please", which is a kinda techno doowop sung from the vantage point of Jesus singing to Fred Phelps. I'll see if I can find a vid of it. It's brilliant.

Sounds brilliant! Am not into modern Christian music, (I prefer monastic chanting, children's choirs, organ recitals, and classical masses) but the techno doowop angle intrigues me...

Nobody castigates smokers like someone who has kicked the habit.

Apparently, you haven't met my mother (a life-time non-smoker) yet...she grew up with her much of her extended family smoking 2-packs a day...then spent her early adulthood going to all their early (cancer-related) funerals. To her credit, she doesn't castigates smokers to their face much, but didn't let us grow up to even think that smoking was an option. As one can imagine, the recent wave of public smoking bans has given her great pleasure in her golden years!

He has always been bluster when confronted. I was amazed at his blind fury when Killgore confronted Spencer on his tolerance of Serbian genocidal freaks on a comment thread here years back. The guy went apoplectic and whipped plenty of sycophants into a fury while failing to address the questions. Halal burrittos? Oh my.

I go to the halal chicken'n'rice guy on 6th and 53th in NYC all the time.

I have to say the "devil's" food is delicious. Most of the people lined up for it aren't Muslim!

They're coooming!

I just ate there on Saturday; those guys are quite good, but the best of the halal food carts is the dude on 6th and 45th...used to work for the Russian Tea Room...his lamb is marinated in green papayas...so damn delicious!

Palin suggested that the questions were fair play because of "the weird conspiracy theory freaky thing that people talk about that Trig isn't my real son -- 'You need to produce his birth certificate, you need to prove that he's your kid,' which we have done."

Someone help me out here. At what point during Obama's campaign did he or his staff make Trig's parentage and issue? What a sad, silly woman she has turned out to be.

I had the great privilege, some months ago, of being in downtown San Francisco when the Naked Bicycle Ride went by a corner preacher with a bullhorn at the Powell Street cable car turnaround. There was some mighty pedalling and castigating happening.

And San Francisco has more of those than people realize. Really off the wall stuff being shouted through those bull horns.

Palin: Obama birth certificate 'a fair question'.

But they're attacking Sarah ...

She plays victim to the hilt and yet carelessly impugns others.

Remember that whole core value of conservatism that dealt with personal responsibility? Scratch that one off the list. Along with budget discipline and a whole host of other ideas.

Looks like REAL Republicans need only be irrational religionists. All else is RINO territory.

Oooh, sounds very good. I'll have to try that one.

There are so many of them in the city, you can always tell the good ones because they'll have a line outside during lunch hour.

The 6th and 53th cart has huge crowds on weekend, probably waiting 20ish minutes or so to get their meals.

I love NY.

Not the campaign. Andrew Sullivan, God protect him, did, and some other Internet whackadoos followed in his wake. And I suppose Sarah was quite rightfully mad as hell at them...but the suggestion that Barack Obama owes it to her to meet at high noon and compare birth documents is rather weird.

Did you miss the memo? Sarah Palin, Saint Palin the Quitter, is a paragon of virtue. A perfect vessel embodying all that is good and pure in God's America.

Anything and everything that happens in Her Life that reflects on Her poorly is ultimately the fault of someone else.

Geez, get with the program.

Oh my, yes. There's the man who's spent every day downtown with a giant sign condemning premarital and extramarital sex since I was a child. For a while we had the Fallen Fallen is Babylon the Mighty Sandwich Sign Guy, who was even doing well enough to take on an apprentice who had his own sandwich sign.

The preacher in question was perched up on the stonework outside Forever 21, sermonizing on the evils of homosexuality, and then the naked people on bicycles showed up. Their sexuality was not clear, but they sure distracted the preacher with the bullhorn for the time it took them to make their way through the turnaround, and streak away up Market Street.

I know, and I do believe she has a right to be angry about that. But her anger on that issue should be directed at Sullivan, not Obama.

"Maybe we can reverse that," she said, returning to Obama's birth certificate, describing the type of thinking involved with a word that isn't clear in the audio.

I used to think I understood English fairly well. Then I read the above, and now realize that I can't distinguish English words from random, involuntary vocalizations.

Yeah, me and my fiance (and more than 1 ex-GF) have been part of the weekend waiting-for-food crowd at 6th and 53rd a number of times now. My usually superior persuasion skills can't bring them to come around to the cart-of-lamb-goodness on 6th and 45th; can't understand why that is so. True, he does charge 1 dollar more than others do, but it's worth every penny extra!

I love New York too...

But folks in my part of heaven - Western NC - believe all of these conspiracy theories. At Rep. Patrick McHenry's (R-Uranus) town hall earlier this summer, the first five comments were from birthers, including one who had formed a citizen's grand jury and "indicted" Obama. Did I also mention that unemployment just hit 16.2 percent, and 1 in 3 people in this Jesus-loving county do not have a high school diploma? Also, 31 percent of the children here receive food stamps and 25 percent of the under-65 population is on Medicare. And they claim not to like government. Of course, the one business that is thriving is the pawn shop/gun dealer.

Onward through the void!

When they have sucked enough blood out of the Muslim (& after they had enough of the Jews), they will come for the pagan Hindu, God--the creator--less Buddhist and other non-monotheistic religions and cultures. Only the Atheist community will grow stronger in the meanwhile to check their efforts to push the world back into dark ages. Candles will be lit under each sorry arse to give them a glimpse of the sacred passage they chose to enter head-first; choice is theirs, either they burn here (and hope to go to heaven) or burn in hell (for improper "sexual" conduct.)

To be consumed with such hatred, in a land of freedom, and in an era of true prosperity, some people just need an enemy to find meaning. That is sad,

Amen.

My favorite Christian singer, Derek Webb, has a song called "Freddy Please", which is a kinda techno doowop sung from the vantage point of Jesus singing to Fred Phelps. I'll see if I can find a vid of it. It's brilliant.

Please do.

My husband would like to say that he would totally counterprotest any protest involving Brazilian models.

Organising a counterprotest sounds like too much work. I'd just volunteer to be the guy at the front of the march who leads the chants and walks backwards.
