Pat Buchanan Defends Sarah Palin’s Birther Pandering

Weird • Views: 3,901

Watch in awe as racist antisemite “conservative” Pat “Hitler Wasn’t So Bad” Buchanan (who, once upon a time, was marginalized on the right, but has now come raging back into the mainstream with all of his hatred and creepiness intact) defends Sarah Palin’s pandering to the mindless Birther “movement,” even as he admits it’s crazy.

Of course he did. Are you surprised?

Portrait of a right wing off the rails.

She was a fool to pander like she did. She'd made her grounding in reality and her honesty the cornerstones of her political appeal, only to throw them both away defending a tawdry delusion. Foolishness, thy name is Palin!

I don't get Palin's logic (if she has any.)

She doesn't need to pander to birthers. She has her supporters who are going to vote for her. And if she were to get the 2012 nomination, she would not have to get birthers on her side. They are going to vote against Obama no matter what. That's why I didn't like McCain's decision to pick her. He didn't need to please the far right. They were going to vote for him by default because they would show up to vote against Obama.

If I were one of her advisers, my advice would be simple. "Dodge it as best you can. You need to go beyond your base if you plan on making significant strides on the national level. You have these voters and you most likely do not need to go out of your way to keep them. And while you're at it, get away from the camera and read a book or something so you don't look like a fool when people ask you tough questions."

8 HC4BO  Fri, Dec 4, 2009 8:10:48pm

The question is NOT whether it is fair to ask such questions as Sarah Palin wants to put it ...

The question is whether it is INTELLIGENT to keep asking those questions AFTER the questions HAVE BEEN answered ... !

IF Sarah Palin thinks just because rumors were started about her last born's parentage during her campaign last year are justification to keep on with this "birther" craziness, she must be deluded because I do NOT see ANYONE on a continuing crusade CURRENTLY calling on her to prove her baby's parentage ...

That is why rumors NEED to come to an end one way or another ( especially after they have been debunked ... )

9 Sharmuta  Fri, Dec 4, 2009 8:11:22pm

It's six degrees of Vlaams Belang Double Jeopardy Round!

Sarah is connected to Lynn Vincent who is connected to Stacy McCain who is an agent of the vlaams belang.

Pat is less difficult.

I'm not dissing her. She forfeited my remaining respect for her by not calling this Nirther foolishness out as stupid. She came across to me as a pandering politico who refused to risk anything for the truth. I understand treading lightly to avoid offending people whose support you need, but she doesn't need the Nirthers nor should she want them.

She likes having people fawn over her. Her base is all she has. If she can keep up the enthusiasm there, then she won't have to face the half-empty high-school gym scenario. Her biggest fear right now is doing a photo op and waving crazily to twenty or thirty supporters when the media was expecting 3000.

If I were Sarah Palin I would never dream of running for President. She has a good gig being herself.

I think it's clear now that Palin's aim is to be a celebrity, not a politician. I gave her the benefit of the doubt when she resigned the governorship-- I thought there had to be a personal and family issue in the background. If she had truly resigned for those reasons I would commend her.

But everything she's done since has made it clear she resigned because she was bored being governor and had an eye on the main chance, and didn't care if she fucked over the people who elected her by bailing.

A. She got tons of unconditional attention during the campaign, and after the election had to go back to Alaska where she was out of the limelight...and she missed it--the clothes, the lights, the cameras, the screaming fans--so she quit being governor and is now spending all her time travelling around "real America" where she can relive the energy of the campaign.

Even that, however, isn't working too well for her as she got bored three days into her book signing tour and walked out of a signing half way through the event.

In the same interview today she claimed that the the McCain-Palin ticket faltered in that it didn't do a good enough job bringing attention to the connections and friends that Obama had and how they would impact him and his ideology. Really? Is that a joke? All I heard out of her mouth for the better part of a month was "Bill Ayres...radical...socialist...hockey mom...Bill Ayres..." She is a moron (did I mention that already?).

55 Bob Levin  Fri, Dec 4, 2009 8:32:59pm

Okay Charles, point taken. But it's not so much of a point as it is a very wide net. And Buchanan was on MSNBC with Matthews. It's almost as if American Politics is really just one big Truman Show.

Regarding the general question of pandering--it's how you raise money. The rest of us just vote, those with a cause will contribute money. Sarah is a very ambitious person, wants to raise lots of money, and she's saying the things that those who will give her money want to hear.

So what's real? You have Sarah Palin saying two things, Pat Buchanan defending her, saying three things, all on a very partisan liberal network, with an almost conspiracy minded liberal host...there really isn't anyway of knowing what's real. But it's easy to see what's wrong.

Wow thats a lot of condescension in one post. Trust me when I say you do not have the right to it. I do not just hurl insults lightly. I meant what I say. It is sometimes the case that trying to understand the motivations of an idiot is a fools errand. That is fact and not opinion. Peoples actions are not always rational and not always thought out. I believe she speaks off the cuff without planning and without proper thought regarding the implications that can be drawn from her statements. I believe that is the mark of a moron. I may be new here, as you state, but I am not new to analyzing politics, and trust me when I say I really don't need to learn anything from you. I guess we're just not communicating. How else do politicians raise money? Who do they go to? For big money, you go to those who want a piece of power. For small contributions, you go to people who have a cause. In other words, in other words, you ask those care enough about a specific issue or a particular side of the fence to give a small amount. You give the impression that you're going to represent their interests.

Regarding my question about what's real--not a big philosophical question here. If I'm in a room and Buchanan walks in, I walk out. That's pretty simple. And there's a good chance I'll need some Pepto immediately after. I'm not going to play buddy buddy with him, and that's what the 'politically principled' Chris Matthews did.

That being said, I'll admit being a hypocrite, my actions don't always match my words or beliefs. But I think that's a perfectly normal part of living life for just long enough to manage that feat.

While you're thinking about it, try a two fingered hand stand.

I had the privilegde of seeing this done; very very slowly. The person started fron the typical feet-folded-in-the-knees sitting position. Then placed a finger on the ground. Slowly lifted to where he was just two inches off the ground. Slowly raised a bit higher and started unfolding his legs. Went to the position where he was straight as a board and had his elbows tucked in his sides as he supported himself one foot off the ground, then changed to the "candle" position by arching backwards and then went to a handstand. He never touched the ground with anything other than his fingers, and the whole thing was in slow motion. He was about 14, and had come to the city recreation center for further training. He quickly realized he was way above what they were doing.

And I realized I had just seen something very, very special.

This is the guy who smeared Mr Sparkman as a pedophile. Why should we be surprised he'd do this to anyone else if he could do it to the dead?

Riehl has also smeared others with homophobic slurs, and defended himself by pointing to his own brother. His own dead, gay brother who he hadn't seen in years, but invoked as evidence that he didn't hate gay people and couldn't mean anything by it when he used homophobic terms about bloggers he didn't like:
safe link

That was an older brother of mine, John. He’s dead and, yes, he was Gay. You want to know how he died? He died alone, probably of aids for all I know and probably in a San Francisco flop house living on the government’s dime. I say probably because it was the last address I ever had for him from letters exchanged, not having seen the boy/man since I was about 15.

And you know why he died alone? Not because he was Gay. He died that way because of small minded assholes who think that being Gay in America is a crime. And who is perpetuating that stereotype and trying to benefit from it, today, Cole? Me? Because I can mock someone whether they are straight or gay, because the orientation has no bearing on how I treat someone, one way or the other?

***

And don’t you dare try to turn this into another prime example of intolerance on the Right, when clearly it is not.

It is but another new low low in the all time record book of disgusting liberal tactics which have nothing more noble as their goal than a power grab. And your unmoral defense of it is a corollary to its vulgar and ugly intent.

This is not the Right’s shame, no matter how you’ll try to make it so. It is the Left’s disgrace. I called you a c***S*** because of the weak-kneed lip service you are providing to your most repugnant cronies on the Left. Whether or not you derive some sexual gratification from giving them that service, I couldn’t care less.

I'll agree with you on Rhiel but Andrew Sullivan is still at it...
Palin Puts The Trig Question Back On The Table

She therefore backs this blog's near-solitary attempt to get her to provide evidence - after very serious questions of fact emerged - that she was indeed the biological mother of Trig.
...
Palin has never produced Trig's birth certificate or a single piece of objective medical evidence that proves he is indeed her biological son. A child with Down Syndrome must have a pile of such records, tests, assessments and ultrasounds that conclusively prove that he is Sarah's biological son. It seems bizarre to me that neither the public nor the campaign (so far as I can glean) has ever been given one of them.
...
lease, governor Palin, let's put this behind us. Only you can. I pledge to post any and all material you can provide debunking these stories soon as I receive any. I'd like this line of inquiry to end as soon as possible - for the sake of all of us, but especially the innocent child caught up in something he doesn't deserve.

At a time when it's so easy to demonstrate more class and appear less crazy than the wingnuts Sullivan still can't quite mange to make it back to reality. His obsession with Paliin's handicapped child is demented and perverse. There's absolutely no excuse for it.

She thinks she's the smartest in the room and that leads to anyone that is competent either leaving or getting trashed so all that is left are the fawners and incompetents that don't rock whatever boat she's decided to float on that day or week. I used to be in politics and have seen it happen. People end up with just groups of yes men or women around them because their egos can't handle anything else. Riehl is vile. Sounds like he really DOES blame his brother's homosexuality for his death, even though he denies it ("probably of AIDS for all I know"). Disgusting.

Don't get me started on Riehl. He has definite issues. As with Geller.

Riehl was also obsessed with Natalie Holloway. His archives would be a treasure trove for anyone wanting to do a thorough dissection of his psyche.

James M. Inhofe has accepted $311,800 in oil contributions during the 110th congress. $160,800 of those dollars were from industry PACS. In total, Inhofe received $662,506 from oil companies between 2000 and 2008, which makes him a top recipient of oil money. In addition to oil, Inhofe has received $152,800 in coal contributions during the 110th Congress. $94,500 of those dollars were from industry PACS. See above for oil and energy voting record.[2]

He is cynical but somehow comes off as the jovial kooky uncle you have to hide when the company comes.

When Pat was running for Prez (1992? I think so.), Letterman had a bit where he mentioned that it was 110 degrees in Phoenix the day before and that Buchanan was campaigning in town. "Thank God," said Dave, "it was a dry hate."

He came to my then hometown during the '96 campaign, and drew a big spillover crowd at the civic center. I was hoping to get a photo of him, but the Secret Service kept me away. Earlier, I had been able to mix with the real pressies and get right in Lamar Alexander's face, during his visit to town.

Do you mean this past autumn? Yes, it was mild. One of my favorite pastimes since the '05 season is listening to the climate scientists predict swarms of super hurricanes each summer, and then see the prediction fail over the next four months. re: #225 jadespring

Where I am it was the first November in over 100 years to not have snow though some have said it's the first since we've have good records. Three days ago their were still frogs out. Yesterday I was still working outside with just a light jacket. Overnight winter struck and we have almost a foot now. I know weather does not equal climate but the past few years have been just plain weird at times. It's the amount of sea-sawing that seems to be changing.

And that is actually what most of the climate models predict. General warming across the globe but with increasingly aberrant, extreme events.

My bud Bruce Sterling wrote a book called Heavy Weather many moons ago. Well worth reading.

Do you mean this past autumn? Yes, it was mild. One of my favorite pastimes since the '05 season is listening to the climate scientists predict swarms of super hurricanes each summer, and then see the prediction fail over the next four months. No offense to those harmed by actual hurricanes during that time.

Strong El Nino formed in June. Always protects the US coast from strong hurricanes. Unfortunately for East Asia, it *increases* storms in the Western Pacific. They got dough-popped.

Well yes, I meant this PAST summer. Summer of 09.

They do that now. Start the hysteria in May (hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov 30). It's mostly for ratings of course, but ever since we were so unprepared for Andrew, and then of course Ivan, Charlie, Frances and one other that ran up the west coast of FL in 2005? Then Wilma and Katrina they want to make sure everyone is prepared i.e., sell all those needed supplies.

We bought a generator in 2000, somewhat small but adequate. Can hook up the frig, portable AC, 2 computers, TV and a lamp. Good to go :)

Thanks for the book reference. The weird weather really does affect me because part of my income is weather dependent. It's something I'm conscious about most days. What seems to be happening is that spring and fall weather is just less predictable then it once was. The parameters are changing. I've also been noticing changes in pests and pollinators as well as how plants are fairing. For instance the actual planting zones are changing for some plants. Things that normally wouldn't survive winter are now and since we seem to be getting more freeze thaw cycles during the winter other plants are generally doing worse.

Met Office to re-examine 160 years of climate data

The Met Office plans to re-examine 160 years of temperature data after admitting that public confidence in the science on man-made global warming has been shattered by leaked e-mails.

The new analysis of the data will take three years, meaning that the Met Office will not be able to state with absolute confidence the extent of the warming trend until the end of 2012.

[...]
The Met Office’s published data showing a warming trend draws heavily on CRU analysis. CRU supplied all the land temperature data to the Met Office, which added this to its own analysis of sea temperature data.

Since the stolen e-mails were published, the chief executive of the Met Office has written to national meteorological offices in 188 countries asking their permission to release the raw data that they collected from their weather stations.

The Met Office is confident that its analysis will eventually be shown to be correct. However, it says it wants to create a new and fully open method of analysing temperature data.

snip...

Well, so much for Hopenhagen, the hackers whoever "they" are seem to have won this round, and at least a three year delay. At least this will put an end to the charges of withholding data, fair or not.

As it should have been from the beginning. If the data's there, the data's there, and should be open for the public to see. This is an issue that affects and will continue to affect every human on the planet.

I think the most damaging thing about this whole Climategate fiasco was not that the CRU's data was proven wrong or manipulated, it was the fact that in several emails these researchers discussed destroying data rather than turning them over under UK Freedom of Information Act requests. That doesn't exactly breed confidence amongst the public. Let it all be done out in the open.

(By the way, we've got the same thing happening in the US, where NASA has been reluctant to hand over core data despite repeated FIA requests. I don't think they've got anything to hide, and realize it takes time to gather data for such requests, but it's important to be transparent.)

Well, so much for Hopenhagen, the hackers whoever "they" are seem to have won this round, and at least a three year delay. At least this will put an end to the charges of withholding data, fair or not.

ClimateScience is going open-source.

Already is, pretty much:

Me too. And it is allowed, as he admits, he just doesn't like it. There's lots of things I don't like, but I don't have a column. Give a man a blog and look what happens LOL

Just for the record, the Christmas stuff does not offend me and I'm not a Christian. It's all very happy and the lights are pretty.

As a kid Christmas seemed to last forever. Especially the days leading up to Christmas Day. Now, it's over in an instant. I don't mind it and as you see the lights are pretty and the music joyous. And unlike when I was a kid it's over in an instant.

I will say, Savage's show is insane and makes no sense, but it's GREAT radio. It's like listening to a seizure being narrated. The politics are bonkers, but he's a good broadcaster.

--an interview by Thom Hartmann. The Question was repeatedly scrolled across the screen, but in fairness to Mr Hoggan, I think it was never put to him, and likely he never even saw it except possibly after-the-fact.

I think this was a reprehensible, Goebelsian class propaganda technique on the part of the interviewer/producers.

I have an iPod Touch, it's pretty tremendous. I don't even like Apple that much, but this thing is really cool. (and it helps that I'm a game developer on projects that are available on it, hah) I balked at the iPhone because I don't want a phone plan that costs almost as much a month as a car payment. :P

Mostly I jack my iPod into my car stereo, or I mix it into the drum brain on my electronic drum kit so I can practice along to songs. Sometimes I'll use it with headphones, but I have these megahuge Sennheiser cans that cut out all ambient noise, so I tend to only do that at home.

Skullcandy makes great earbuds, some of which come with different size rubber surrounds to fit different ear canals. I don't like the regular style like those that you get with an iPod, but Skullcandy's in-ear ones are great.

I never got into talk radio much. In previous and more recent years it was typically watching clips on Fox like John Gibson, Neil Cavuto, or Red Eye. Nothing to spectacular. The few time I watched Hannity and Colmes (clips again) I never saw anything too outrageous at the time. I did think the dynamics between the two were somewhat entertaining. I have watched O'Reilly before and that was usually with Dennis Miller.

Before that in my early years it was mostly listening to Fresh Air with Terry Gross. Nothing really political stands out in my mind. I did go through a stage when I sought out to hear Noam Chomsky which was out of an interest in economic or labor "justice" ideas and never for his foreign policy. What stood out the most for me was listening to Steven Ambrose interviews on NPR shortly before his death. He sparked my interest in reading his books and subsequent books on WW2 and the American soldier.

I have these: Sennheiser HD 280 Pro Headphones

When I bought mine, they cost double what they do now. I use them for music, for gaming, for playing drums, love 'em. I've had them for going on 4 years, I think? For $75, they'll last you forever, and the parts are individually replacable. If the cord goes bad? Get a new one. Ear cushions screwed up? Buy a new set online.

Pat Buchanan is a fool. Palin is not a fool, but is more concerned of selling her book than her political future and conservatives are foolish if they don't see that. (good for her, by the way. Laughing all the way to the bank)
Regarding Obama's birth certificate: I used to be a darkroom/camera guy in the wonderful world of Reprographics, so I know a thing or two about photographic films. There is microfilm available (so I've read) of the newspaper clipping in Hawaii announcing Obama's birth. I think it's an easy thing forging a document. It's nearly impossible to forge a piece of microfilm from nearly 50 years ago. I don't doubt he was born here.
There is an issue when he returned here after living in Indonesia and how that was handled. It's possible that he technically may have had to re-establish his citizenship here and I never heard a clear story about that. But honestly, that's splitting hairs a bit.
Rather than argue his birth, the GOP should be arguing policy. Win with ideas, not mud. It works better.
I have hope for the GOP. But it needs to be reformed. "Real" conservatives that have actual thoughts need to purge the party.

Actually, what I think happened there was that Matthews accidently let slip how much he has swallowed the right wing smear that there is hate between every demoractic politician and the military, on both sides. Lefty bloggers would say that this is because he is a villager, a member of a class that may profess allegiance to the left, but will always let the right set the terms of the debate.
