The Endless Flood of Phony Scandal-Gates

Weird • Views: 3,967

In the previous thread, I mentioned that I was considering doing a post about the endless flood of phony scandals from right wing blogs, Fox News, World Nut Daily, etc. etc., and it was more than a little amazing how many examples LGF readers came up with. Climategate is just the most recent in a long, long line.

So here’s a thread dedicated to the subject, for the lizard army to post comments reminding us of the incredibly numerous right wing nontroversies that stopped living but refused to die. To keep things manageable, let’s limit this to non-scandals that have bubbled up from the fever swamps since Obama’s election.

Have at it.

Speech to shoolchildren and lesson-plan-gate.
When Obama was going to take over and control the minds of the nation's schoolchildren.

I thought the proposed lesson plan was vague and stupid, but it ended up being changed. As it should have been.

I suspect the President himself had absolutely nothing to do with that lesson plan, but had some of his education experts read an outline of his speech, and they came up with the "lesson plan" that everybody saw.

Once the speech was finished, and staff reviewed the lesson plan - changes were suggested and made, and the final lesson plan was just fine.

My description above is based on some assumptions I have made, based on my experiences as to how things work when I worked for the state government and worked with other governmental agencies, including the feds. They are notoriously disorganized.

What was ice-cream-gate? I think I missed that one.

Obama went out for ice cream with his daughters. The country held on by a thread during that tense 2 hours.

I think that was a day or two after he visited some kids at a nearby school and Michelle said "they let us out!". I think that was during their first week at the WH. That might make the list as well.

Gherkingate, a small flap that developed when Malkin got upset that the Obama's were using an ingredient in tuna-fish sandwiches she couldn't identify. This was followed by bickering about whether using Grey Poupon was a sign that Obama was an elitist.

In the spirit of bipartisanship, I will offer up Brushclearinggate, which happened when some bright dude wrote about how you could tell George Bush was warped because he liked to clear brush on his ranch.

re: #21 Charles

Wordcount-gate was a classic.

As in:

Update II: I’ve run the speech through a word frequency counter and found the following results:

* 56 iterations of “I”
* 19 iterations of “school”
* 10 iterations of “education”
* 8 iterations of “responsibility”
* 7 iterations of “country”
* 5 iterations each of “parents”, “teachers”
* 3 iterations of “nation”

That led to 12 pages of comments.

I'll cry shenanigans over that one. I have yet to see any evidence that left wing gossipmongers are any more responsible that right wing ones. Not making a left vs. right judgement there per se, just observing that both sides of the political fence grow a robust crop of a-holes (Ref: Baucus, Max).

Real Photograph - Inaccurate Description

Check out this latest picture from Veterans Day 11/11/09 at the Ceremony in Arlington National Cemetery. I don't know whether the National Anthem is being played, or the Flag is going by, or WHAT, but EVERYBODY in the picture is either saluting or has his hand over the HEART.

All except ONE.
Guess who.
I do not make this stuff up!

...

As can be seen in the following video clip of the event, this picture was snapped just as President Obama took the stage in the Memorial Amphitheater during the playing of "Hail to the Chief." Hence, the photo is not, as suggested above, a picture of the president inappropriately standing with his hands folded while others pay their respects to America's war dead with traditional gestures; it is a picture of others showing appropriate deference during the playing of music that represents their president and commander-in-chief.

I wouldn't classify that as an outrageously outrageous nontroversy. In my honest opinion, I thought that was pretty gee-dee stupid, and a major fuck-up on the part of whoever decided it was a good idea.

I guess the nontroversy would be if wingnuts were screaming that it was all Obama's fault, when he had no knowledge of the event until after the fact. Perhaps that was the case, but I forget all the details of the story.

If I had to make excuses, I would probably suggest that some staffer somewhere remembered that their grandma was thrilled to get an IPod preloaded with their favorite music, and thought the same thing would apply to the Queen. I agree that it was weak sauce (surely the Queen's got someone who would do that for her anyways), but if I had to guess that's where the logic came from.

That is not what the debate is about. It is not about the incarceration of individuals. It is about the way the war previously known as the war on terror will deal with the prisoners. How it will get info and what it will do with it. Sorry, the debate is legitimate and I side with Cheney.

To make a typology of crazy, the following categories begin an outline:

a) Item is batshit crazy.

g) Statement is patently false.

l) Story has a twisted basis in fact.

m) Sounds like bull, no details available.

r) Facts are arguable from either side.

z) Item is basically true, and a Presidential screw-up.

Elaborate this and arrange the stories as you see fit. We've probably reached the limits of the blog process.

These guys were Arabs and I asked them why they thought Michele Obama headed home following her visit in France instead of traveling on to Saudi Arabia and Turkey with her husband..
They told me she couldn’t go to Saudi Arabia, Turkey or Iraq.
I said “Laura Bush went to Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Dubai.”
They said that Obama is a Muslim, and by Muslim law he would not be allowed to bring his wife into countries that accept Sharia Law.
I just thought it was interesting that two Arabs at Blockbusters accept the idea that we’re being led by a Muslim who follows the Islamic creed.

Obviously you do not read crime novels or watch action movies. The real danger occurs while the prisoner is being transported to and from the prison facility. The prisoner's accomplices all have high-tech weapons and a fleet of armored SUV's that can intercept the transport and free the prisoner. I know, I've read tons of these novels and watched hundreds of movies and TV shows!

The Bush family relationship with the Saudis went back before he was president or in a position to have official ties with them.

wozzablog -

For the Record, I am aware of BUSH, KENNEDY and ROOSEVELT family relationships with a LOT of unsavory types. GWB's grandfather was almost indicted under trading with the enemy laws, and as for Joseph Kennedy the elder - Fuhgeddaboudit - FDR pulled him home from his UK Ambassadorship for his pro-Nazi sympathies. As for FDR, he was the scion of a fortune in the Chinese Opium Trade on his Mother's side. As I implied to Charles, Nobody, me included, is perfect, or are their families. -S-

The Euthanasia Czargate enhanced by Zombie

Was Zombie the person who used to be here that kept claiming they had a whole lot of super top-secret clearance or access that they couldn't reveal as cover for their claims? I seem to remember an LGfer back when iwas lurking that drove me crazy for that reason.

Yes. Similarly, Zombie claimed to have sooper seekrit evidence that Van Jones was a truther. When called on it, zombie vanished-- only to resurface days later claiming that she had leaked the seekrit info to major media outlets, and Van Jones had really resigned because of that info.

Mockery ensued.

Being that you're a game developer, I am sure you've seen a ton of that kind of crap on the interwebs.

From my lurking on many game forums, I have gathered that there are many millions of teenaged, pimply, loser, virgins on this planet that in fact eat caviar from the breasts of Swedish super-models, and drink champagne from their belly-buttons.

354 Cheechako  Sun, Dec 6, 2009 10:31:10pm

Hasn't anyone yet figured out that all these "gates" are nothing more than distractions from substantive issues like Obama-care, cap & trade, hugh deficits, Government Motors, etc.
Yes, I know it's fun, but it's like a 3-card monte game. Nothing but distractions.

355 Kewalo  Sun, Dec 6, 2009 10:43:46pm

And all are not so funny either. It's concerned me from the beginning that there has been so much talk about Obama taking away guns. The only thing I've ever heard him say about guns is that we need to find a place where the hunters and the people that live in inner cites can agree (and I'm paraphrasing here, but I think I'm close).

It seems to be a common misconception that all lefties want to take away guns, but that simply isn't true and I've never heard anything that's lead me to believe that Obama wants to do that. So, I curious, where the hell is that coming from? And why is it sooo believed?

356 Slumbering Behemoth Stinks  Sun, Dec 6, 2009 11:05:41pm

re: #354 Cheechako

That's the point. These nontroversies are all a bogus load of nonsense pimped by the right-wing (and in some rare cases, left-wing) nut-o-sphere.

They are distractions. Distractions pimped by, and sold to, those one the right side of the aisle. For those on the left, they are Christmas presents wrapped in golden paper.

I think the Brits were more offended by that than Americans. What do we know about the Queen rules?

That's why we pay people at the White House handsome salaries to review points of protocol that even a ten-year-old sould be aware of:

Unless at her behest,nobody touches the Queen.

yup - but they are being perpetrated by the side that opposes all of Obama's programmes. If the collected amount of wasted thought had been put towards the issues you mentioned they may have come up with something better than "they are gonna kill granma"

Simply speaking, Obama-gate!

That'd be a great website. List and detail all the nonsense coming out. It's non-stop. Maybe the democrat website can put something up like that.

Just as good would be TV show that goes through it.

I'll bet Bill Handel would do a segment on this, he has some 6 hours of Radio a day to fill. And he frames Rush Limbaugh (just prior and immediately after) out here in LA. Just have to condense it and document it concisely. Send it over and he'd probably have a field day. Although if it hadn't been for Palin he'd have probably voted Republican.
