Five DC-Area Muslims Arrested in Pakistan

Five Muslims apparently from the Washington DC area have been arrested in Pakistan: Breaking News: Pakistan Reportedly Detains Five D.C.-Area Muslims on Suspicion of Terror.

A Pakistani newspaper reports the arrest of five foreign nationals after a raid in a town called Sargodha. The raid took place at the home of a member of the Jaish-e-Muhammad, a Pakistani movement designated as a terrorist group by the U.S. Treasury Department in 2001.

According to the report, “The DPO told that these people had been living in Sargodha since Nov 30 and it was quite a possibility that they were engaged in acts of terrorism.” It names the five as Ahmed Abdullah, Waqar Hassan Khan, Eman Hassan, Yasir and Rami Zamzam and describes them as two Yemenis, an Egyptian, a Swede and a U.S.-born Pakistani.

[Earlier…]

The identities of two of the missing men, Howard student Ramy Zamzam and Waqar Khan, have been mentioned in online postings, including a Facebook page that was set up Monday for friends to offer their support. Some of those pages, however, appear restricted to friends and associates.

It is not clear where the men are believed to have gone, but an informed source told the IPT that at least one left behind a farewell video.

According to the Facebook and Twitter postings, Zamzam is among the missing. He has been active in the Muslim Students Association, serving as president of the MSA DC Council. A Howard University spokeswoman has not responded to questions from the IPT.

The disappearance comes as U.S. officials are increasingly concerned about the threat of homegrown Islamist extremism. This concern is prompted by a spike in attacks like the Fort Hood massacre, and conspiracies broken up by law enforcement before any attacks took place.

Sure. They left DC for a backwater village in Pakistan to...install septic tanks for the natives? Bring books for a girls' school? Start a haute couture burqa shop?

With half the globe trying to get into this country, they left? Zealotry trumps personal comfort and safety, I suppose.

The five are currently being held under the Pakistani Foreign Act.

The arrests come on the heels of terror attacks against the ISI offices in Multan.

Suspected of terrorism.

Were the five here in the US on student visas? What were they doing here, and what were they doing in Pakistan? Who were they contacting (here in the US and over in Pakistan)?

All unanswered questions that will likely come out in future news reports.

Malam Jabba sounds like a cool place to go.

Perched about 8,700 feet above sea level, Malam Jabba is an excellent skiing resort. The mighty Karakoram range and black mountains surround the resort and offers excellent views. Apart from presenting wonderful scenic views, the Malam Jabba Ski Resort has some monuments that add to the excitement of a traveller.

Malam Jabba has two Buddhist stupas and six monasteries that are scattered around the resort. The presence of the monuments at such a height clearly indicates that the area was inhabited for over 2000 years.

re: #21 Charles

Speaking of the Uganda criminalization efforts, CNN has a report on the latest. They say that the country is expected to pass the law before the end of the year, and 95% of the country opposes legalizing homosexuality.

Lawmakers have indicated that they will pass the bill before year's end.

It has the blessing of many religious leaders -- Muslim and Christian -- in a country where a July poll found 95 percent opposed to legalizing homosexuality.

The Rev. Esau Omara, a senior church leader, said over the weekend that any lawmaker opposing the bill will pay for it during the next election, according to local newspaper reports.

And a leading Muslim cleric, Sheikh Ramathan Shaban Mubajje, has called for gays to be rounded up and banished to an island until they die.

The law would actually make the crime of homosexual conduct more severe than the nation's treason laws.

It's insane.

Note too, that the CNN report makes no mention of "the Family" or any other US involvement in the law.

Seems that there's plenty of religious figures opposed to homosexuality on all sides (Christian or Muslim) to pass this bill - and to go after those legislators who don't support it.

Well, if they're Muslim, then they're not really American, or so goes the xenophobic logic. And if we can say "US-born Pakistani" then people will be able to hang on to their prejudices without having to focus on the "US-born" part of it. If the story just said "American" and left off the ethnicity, it could raise uncomfortable questions for people, and so close to the holidays.

Homos carry and spread so many diseases such that the CDC and FDA have BANNED them from donating blood. This was a life saving measure for all of us, but it isn't enough. They spread typhus, hepetitas, and 30 other diseases of which most are deadly (if you get Hep B-G, you're dead... not now, but in 20 years when your liver turns into a prune).

Yep. Breitbart is serious bad news. And yet the various sites he runs are getting more and more attention. It's crazy that anyone sees Breitbart as anything other than a disturbed individual, given evidence of his various meltdowns witnessed in real time and preserved forever via the magic of the internet (the voicemail rant he left gawker, the deranged tweets when kennedy died).
I mentioned once before that a couple of people in the leftysphere claimed to have seekritly attended a small blogger meetup he was at a year or more ago-- they said then that he was a nutcase. Since then all evidence has continued to bear that out.
Not surprised his commentators are deranged and evil.
