Acorn Granted Injunction on Law Banning Government Funding
December 11, 2009. New York, NY - Today, U.S. District Judge Nina Gershon granted a preliminary injunction against the United States for unconstitutionally withholding funds from ACORN. In its decision, the court found that there is a likelihood the plaintiffs will be able to show that Congress’ targeted defunding of ACORN violates the Constitution’s prohibition against Bills of Attainder, legislative acts which single out a specific person or group for punishment.

You'll find that probably 95% of "conservatives" who post on LGF (still), are social moderates or liberals and have no problem referring themselves as Classical Liberals. It's really sad how few good blogs there are out there for discussion of current events with a political slant. LGF is honestly the only one I can stand spending any real amount of time on anymore; the others are either too unmoderated, or too stale.
Web design isn't just about form and feel, it's also about flow and user contributions, and I'd say Charles has LGF wonderfully-designed from that perspective as well.

Liberal in the context of US politics still also means state-ist economic policies. Classical liberal would mean less government involvement in social and economic issues--it's what the term means in European politics.

I'm very happy to have finally talked to Charles directly after all these years, even though the time constraints confined it to just a few words.
To me, science and reason are the crucial issues in our split with the right. I saw some of this last year during the campaign, for example when McCain repeatedly mis-characterized the earmark for Adler planetarium's new projection system as "two million dollars for an overhead projector." As I pointed out at the time, McCain himself obviously knew better and was just pandering to what he saw as the base.
Charles's decision to take on the creationists was a crucial moment. The response here and elsewhere was ferocious, as though he had tossed a stink bomb into a fundamentalist revival meeting. It exposed just how prevalent antiscience was, and is, on the political right.
As I mentioned on the Colmes show call, one of Charles's greatest contributions is to recognize and document the connection between creationism and other forms of right-wing anti-science.
