I really can’t understand why stalker types get angry about what’s posted here. I guess honesty is a scary thing.

I think the stalker-types once had invested trust in Charles. You’ll feel more anger towards someone you once liked than someone you never did.

Free Republic’s purge of evolutionists is a pretty good indication of just how far this cancer of superstition has progressed on the right.
Creationism has dominated at FR for many years, of course, but there was always a sizable contingent of pro-science types (mostly old line Goldwater conservatives) who were willing to mix it up with the creos and who usually gave as good as they got. No more, though. The purge at the top conservative site is a good indication that anti-science is now sacrosanct dogma on what passes for the right.

No, they had fantasies about who Charles is, and what he stands for, all projections from their minds.
And he is himself, not their projections.
That’s my 2 cents.

It’s not about honesty, truth or lies, right or wrong. It’s about hating someone(s). On the bright side, except for the occasional mention, they aren’t an interesting topic over this way. Pitiful I suppose. Particularly during the season of good cheer and neighborly love.

The revanchist movement of which Free Republic is a part is evolving into a movement keen on regressing towards the rejection of science and sociology towards with ideas that was once held be less educated masses dating back to the 19th century. Sometimes they reflect ideas and attitudes date past the 19th century.
Jim Robinson has proven himself to be an unstable personality in the past. As time goes by he will only become more unstable with the coinciding revanchist, anti-science, and other extremist movements. They should consider renaming it Banana Republic.

The nice thing is that the fringe is self-purging. They cut themselves off with the eventual flounce. I joined this site because it was anti-idiotarian, hoping that it would come back to the contentious center, which can happily contain sane members of the left and right. Disagreement is good, as long as it is respectful and honest.

I once flew completely across the Pacific, Tokyo to San Francisco, in a DC-6. These planes were designed to fly on any two of their four engines, and for good reason. The R-2800 radial (for 2800 cubic inches) had 18 cylinders, 36 spark plugs, and a mass of reciprocating parts all stressed within an inch of their lives to produce 2400 horsepower, a remarkably high specific output for a very large engine even today. The upshot was that we changed one of them on Wake Island and another in Hawaii, finally reaching the west coast after 29 hours.

Looks like Luap Nor was on Alex Jones show today. Anyone who still is laboring under the delusion that RP is not totally in kook conspiracy land should listen to this. They are going no holds bar on the Copenhagen is the beginning of the NWO takeover koolaid. He mentions revolution as well.
It’s also extremely apparent that neither RP or AJ know what the term “Global Governance” actually means and think it means “Global Government”.
From Wikipedia:
Global governance is not world government, and even less democratic globalization. In fact, global governance would not be necessary, were there a world government. Domestic governments have monopolies on the use of force—the power of enforcement. Global governance refers to the political interaction that is required to solve problems that affect more than one state or region when there is no power to enforce compliance. Problems arise, and networks of actors are constructed to deal with them in the absence of an international analogue to a domestic government. This system has been termed disaggregated sovereignty.
Here’s the video if you can stand it.

Cooorimie! Best I did in a 6 was East to West coast in the 40s.

We do live in amazing times don’t we? I consider myself privileged to be alive now. I was born in 1964. I remember my grandfather, who was born in 1899, telling me stories. What he saw in terms of the changes was astounding. My life is no different. Simply amazing.
I go back to 1949. When I was a little guy in the 50s, we had a neighbor, a Mrs. R, who was in her 90s. She had been born in Washington DC in 1859 and could remember the sound of distant gunfire during the Civil War and especially seeing President Lincoln in person at his second inauguration. She was only 5 or 6 at the time but the memory was still vivid when she shared it with me more than 90 years later. She passed away in 1958 at the age of 99.

When I was a kid, in the early 1960’s, we flew to Grandma’s for the summer. If you were good & quiet, you could sit in with the pilots & watch. If you were REALLY quiet, they forgot you were there & you could stay most of the flight. I still treasure those memories.

I will always be grateful for my grandparents on my mother’s side. They were both born in West Virginia, in the hill country, yet moved to NYC during the depression. My grandpa was a railroad man and ended up working for the NYCTA till retirement. What a workhorse! He had a major surgery in the fifties and was able to use only vacation time instead of sick time because he never called in sick before the surgery. It was six months worth! Everything I know about baseball is because of him. A good man. Someday I’ll share about my grandma too. Such a cool woman!

My dad and uncle were Air Force officers and I picked up the bug early. Dad was a B-29 navigator during WW2 and stayed on in the AF afterward. He was stationed at Edwards in the early 60s. Watching the planes was almost all there was to do there, so I started making an effort to find out how they worked. My uncle flew P-40s and P-38s and was in fact an ace. He also stayed in the AF into the 70s.
I was an army aviator until deteriorating eyesight caught up with me, at which point I switched to ADA (air defense artillery), on the theory that if you can’t join ‘em, beat ‘em. I learned a lot about missiles and rocketry there and that tended to reinforce the interest in spaceflight and science fiction that went back to 1957 abd Sputnik. I worked off and on in the industry for a few years while I stayed in the army reserve and pursued my academic career and my interest in writing. All these different threads have tied together over the years to create the set of interests I have now.

From yesterday’s press conferences and proceedings, I gather that the document you linked is at least in part OBE.
What is happening in Copenhagen will probably only result in a “political” agreement, and if that is so many nations won’t sign it but the big ones will. As it won’t be a legally binding treaty it won’t be submitted to the US Senate for ratification. Indeed, the Kerry-Graham announcement sounds like they are going for some sort of US decision that implements strategies to deal with AGW, but not on the side of a legally binding treaty.
The small nations, the island states, and the least developed nations will be disappointed and will cry loudly, but that will be the best the US/Canada/UMBRELLA nations will do in agreement with BASIC (Brazil, S.Africa, India, China).
Whatever is finally agreed, it certainly doesn’t look like something that would qualify for an Alex-Jones-NWO type of affair.

That’s the first time I looked at that draft document. I think it’s the Danish version and the only document that’s out there.
No, nothing that comes out of COP15 will be legally binding. After listening to some of the speakers and reading a bit of the news they all want to stick with Kyoto. People also need to keep in mind the Kyoto doesn’t contain any “global taxes,” or control of nations of any sort. The claim is that some at COP15 want to eliminate Kyoto or weaken it which something G77 and AOSIS does not want.
No Alex-Jones-NWO conspiracies. China is riding on the back of G77 for their own protection since their emissions are climbing exponentially. Bad move on the part of the G77 regarding their lead delegate from Sudan.

Many thanks. There was always a sharp dichotomy between my paternal and maternal families, and I took after my dad’s side. This was not the case for all of us though. My brother, mentioned in #167, is more like my mom’s extended clan. Apparently he never realized that she married my dad at least in part to escape from them.
The army Queenaire was the U-8 Seminole, which was a nifty plane and quite rugged, belying its corporate limo origins. I think Elmer Fudd was the Grumman C-1 Trader, but I am not so sure about Navy machines of that era.

Thanks - yes U-8s - rugged - yes sir! Bounced all over the sky in SEAsia thunderstorms and nary a tatter.
My moms family is from the SC Low Country circa late 1700s - and in the words of one of the Muppets … “Looks like we picked up a wierdo”.
My paternal side (like LGF) is an oasis of sanity.

Evil doppelganger from a different dimension?
That’s a good way to put it. In many ways, his personality is almost a direct inversion of mine. He has always had a kind of martyr complex, as though he bears some terrible inner burden that the rest of us just do not have the greatness of soul to understand. I am generally tolerant up to the point at which a compromise with evil is demanded, which is where I draw the line and will go no further. He is dogmatic and uncompromising up to the same kind of point, at which time he will weaken and make compromises that I would not make.

Just listened to the Colmes interview. Awesome. Well done, Charles. I’m glad you mentioned the decline in political blog readership after the election. It was something I was keeping an eye on, too, via Alexa. I thought it was weird that blogs were criticizing each other for it (though I don’t recall you ever doing it) when everyone’s blog “attendance” was sinking like a rock.
Great interview.
And well done, Shiplord!

Hilarious, but also sad because it is true. You can almost see the strings from her hand to his mouth.
Thanks. China is the puppet master of the G77 nations here.
She mentioned “historical responsibility” [of developed countries] referring to financing again. US Aid including peace keeping operations hovered around 26 billion in 2006 or 2008. It’s gone up since then. Knowing the type of development assistance corruption that’s gone on over the years and most particularly in Africa I’m pretty sure whatever “assistance” they get will end up in the hands of the ruling war lords. And now she’s bringing up eradicating poverty which is not the goal of COP15.
I’m trying to keep my composure here but let me just say I completely reject G77/China’s rhetoric.

I only see them at funerals these days. The last time it was anything else was my daughter’s wedding in 2000. It is awkward to say the least but I just remind myself that they are the ones who have cause for embarrassment.
Gee whiz…sounds pretty harsh to have such a family lurking in the back of your mind. You’re totally correct of course, they’re the ones with the problem, not the Lizard!

Younger by 15 months. My ex is a year older than I am so her homecoming queen charms are ancient history and that is really all she ever had. He is well and truly stuck with her though.

Wow - that two could grow up with such divergent views so close together - where did you experience the start of the split?
I am an old man and curious about family relationships. Mine are a mess. My neighbors (happily married for 20+ years) were the same bro/wife - now other bro/same wife … go figure.

When we take a stand - defining our boundaries to others - weak friendships fall off and the strong blossom.
The rest is BS.

Hard to say but it goes way back. When we were really little, pre-school age, he was much the faster learner. He could tie his shoes before I could for example. When we got to school and I learned to read, that reversed itself. I was selected for a special academic program (the kind of thing now known as “gifted and talented”) when I was in the fifth grade and started going to a different school. He was actually selected for the same program but we moved before he could start and he felt cheated. We also started spending more time with my mom’s family and I suspect that his resentment dovetailed with their all-encompassing anti-intellectualism and rewarded him for resenting me.

re: #240 Bobibutu
It also didn’t help that he was small for his age and I was big, even allowing for the difference in age. In adult life, I am 6 inches taller than he is. Interestingly, my ex is 2 inches taller than he is and I think this suited her primitive impulse to dominate a relationship, something that would have doomed our marriage even if he hadn’t intervened.

If you’re tempted to buy into the ridiculous homophobic “fistgate” smears currently all over the right wing blogs, trying to take down Obama education czar Kevin Jennings (and I know that, unfortunately, we do have some in the lizard army who have been fooled into believing it), please read this:
Anti-gay ‘hate group’ MassResistance is source for right-wing media attacks on Jennings.
Yes, it’s Media Matters. But they are RIGHT in this case. These are the people that are now being promoted by Jim Hoft and Michelle Malkin and the rest of the right wing blogosphere — out and out bigots and haters from the Dark Ages.

re: #12 Shiplord Kirel
Free Republic’s purge of evolutionists is a pretty good indication of just how far this cancer of superstition has progressed on the right.
Creationism has dominated at FR for many years, of course, but there was always a sizable contingent of pro-science types (mostly old line Goldwater conservatives) who were willing to mix it up with the creos and who usually gave as good as they got. No more, though. The purge at the top conservative site is a good indication that anti-science is now sacrosanct dogma on what passes for the right.
That was rather an interesting time at FR for us, not only did we have to argue with commenters, we had to stand up to a couple of anti-science pro-woo moderators and Jimbo himself. There was little choice but to regroup at DarwinCentral and let those pro-science commenters still unbanned do their stuff while they could.
A good percentage of the pro-evos at FR were scientists, some of them well known.
