The whole album is fantastic. I have the Deluxe Continuum album, but had never listened to the live disk until the other day when I remembered I had the other disk. D'oh! I was thrilled I had a recording of this:

oh man, that was the bomb....since SRV left us, there has not been anyone so natural and comfortable with a guitar as JM....he's just a born with it and toys with a very complex instrument....and once again his bands are just primo....very exciting for me, he surpasses my lofty standards

Bose (in my case) n.c. headphones, LGF music links and an adult beverage make for serious quality time.

re: #13 Sharmuta
Something I have learned in Rock & Roll HQ. There is an embarrassing, scandalous amount of undiscovered, undistributed unsigned talent out there. Utterly just there to be sen and heard, and its a delight.

21 albusteve  Tue, Dec 15, 2009 6:49:46pm

re: #13 Sharmuta

I don't know- Joe Bonamassa is pretty good too.

yes, but I don't think he's a versatile...JM can play the finish off a flat top too...he's probably technically better as well....Joe's a bit old school and very good at what he does best...as for playing the guitar Mayer is one of the three or four best ever imo, fluid, perfect attack, understands what he's doing and of course perfect rhythm....he can play anything....maybe Charles would disagree, but I am extremely impressed with John, and he has more to accomplish yet....almost scary

22 Sharmuta  Tue, Dec 15, 2009 6:50:23pm

Then there is The John Mayer Trio

23 albusteve  Tue, Dec 15, 2009 6:52:33pm

BTW, when Charles posted Bonamassa's 'Stop', I was floored and have listened and reposted it several times since...straight up mashing the blues...still takes my breath away...just a tremendous cut and a cool vid as well...big time

67 MandyManners  Tue, Dec 15, 2009 7:15:52pm

Two Georgia men, including a former Georgia Tech student, were sentenced to 17 and 13 years in federal prison Monday for supporting terrorism.

"This is not about your faith," U.S. District Judge William Duffey Jr. told Ehsanul Islam Sadequee, of the Atlanta suburb of Roswell, in imposing his sentence. "This is about your conduct. This is about the rule of law in this country that you have decided does not apply to you."

Sadequee, 23, was convicted in August on four counts of supporting terrorists and a foreign terrorist organization. His co-conspirator, Syed Haris Ahmed, 25, was convicted in June of conspiring with Sadequee to provide material support for terrorists in the United States and abroad. The two were charged in the same indictment.

SNIP

While in Canada, federal prosecutors said, the men talked about their plans to go to Pakistan "to attend a paramilitary training camp operated by a terrorist organization ... as preparation for engaging in violent jihad abroad or in the United States."

"They also discussed potential targets for terrorist attacks in the United States."

In addition, Ahmed traveled to Pakistan in July 2005 with the goal of entering a terrorist training camp. He was unsuccessful in getting into such a camp and returned to the United States.

Authorities also have contended that Sadequee and Ahmed made "casing videos" of landmarks in the Washington area, such as the Capitol, the World Bank Building and a Masonic Temple.

SNIP

Given an opportunity to speak before being sentenced, Sadequee delivered a sermon of sorts, stretching to nearly an hour, on the true nature of Islam and God's vengeance on those who contradict his will, quoting from the Bible and the Quran and breaking into songs in what seemed to be Arabic several times.

SNIP

If I may take an informal poll? I'm measuring interest in a photographic blog about the L.A. local music scene. I have the impression that there is a major resurgence underway here. Been kicking this around for over a year. The limitation is I usually can not link in any music. Some great shows are late on work nights, can't mes with the day job. I can only include the shows that let me use the camera. That's the weaknesses.

The strengths would be immediacy, photography, and some smart commentary. Not a deliberate commercial thing, it's just about trying to marry two things I have real passion for-photography and music. Unlike our host and some fellow Lizards I have no musical skills. Just a fan.

Along with Hitler, Gandhi, Stalin and Martin Luther King, the former prime minister has been dropped from a list of key figures to be mentioned in history teaching.
