TMZ Falls for JFK Hoax, Pamela Geller Changes History

Blogosphere • Views: 7,569

Gossip site TMZ ran a story today about a photo of John F. Kennedy on a yacht with several naked women, and headlined it: The JFK Photo That Could Have Changed History.

In their article, TMZ cited “multiple experts” and quoted a “forensic analyst” who vouched for the authenticity of the photo.

TMZ had multiple experts examine the photo — all say there is no evidence the picture was Photoshopped. The original print — which is creased — was scanned and examined for evidence of inconsistent lighting, photo composition and other forms of manipulation. The experts all concluded the photo appears authentic.

Professor Jeff Sedlik, a forensic photo expert, says the print appears to be authentic. Sedlik says the photo is printed on paper consistent with what was used in the 1950s. The emulsion on the surface of the print has numerous cracks — the result of aging and handling. …

Forensic analyst Sedlik superimposed an image of Kennedy taken at the Democratic National Convention in August 1956, just days before Kennedy went on the Mediterranean cruise. Sedlik says the features from the two pics almost precisely sync up. TMZ has also had two Kennedy biographers examine the photo — they also believe JFK is in the picture.

TMZ concludes their article with the ominous news that if the photo had been released in 1960 it would have “changed history:”

Had the photo surfaced when John F. Kennedy ran for President in 1960, it could have torpedoed his run, and changed world history.

Imagine my negligible surprise to discover the photo is a hoax, as The Smoking Gun proves here: TMZ Falls For JFK Photo Hoax.

And speaking of “changing history,” one of the right wing bloggers who fell for the hoax, hook, line, and sinker, is the web’s craziest shrieking harpy, Pamela Geller, who shrieked:

TMZ has the goods on this photo of JFK and a gaggle of naked women. Too bad the left wing pravda media protected him. Just think. For starters, we’d still have Cuba.

Today if that picture emerged, they’d give him a Nobel. What a difference 40-odd years makes.

Leave it to Geller to find the Obama connection, no matter how strained. But the link to Geller’s anti-Muslim hate site goes to Google’s cache because she simply deleted her post without updating or acknowledging that she fell for an obvious hoax.

But the idiocy doesn’t even stop there, because Cuba was taken over by Castro’s forces in 1959.

UPDATE at 12/28/09 12:22:33 pm:

In more shrieking harpy news, Geller’s moronic post about the White House Christmas tree “festooned with evil” is duplicated today at far right web site Newsmax — the site that recently published an article advocating a military takeover of the US government.

Just think, for starters, Cuba fell on January 1, 1959. JFK assumed office on January 20, 1961. Geller has to add more embellishments to her fantastical conspiracy theory.

The Kennedy shot didn't seem to pass the smell test. The funniest thing about the story is that for years some guy carried around a black and white photo of a playboy photoshoot thinking it was a unique heirloom of presidential history.

"For starters, we’d still have Cuba."

WTF? Who's "we"? The United States? When did we ever "have" Cuba? I somehow missed it being wrested from our "ownership." Seems like it would have been big news.

And how would Kennedy losing the Presidency have changed...well, what really happened? I certainly don't recall the Cuban Revolution taking place while Kennedy was in office. By the time he arrived on the scene, Cuba was already a Soviet client-state.

87 lawhawk  Mon, Dec 28, 2009 12:34:59pm

The NY Daily News has the name of at least one of these experts:

Multiple experts who examined a scan of the original print concluded that the photo appeared authentic. TMZ reports that no evidence of Photoshopping was found after the experts studied the image for inconsistent lighting, photo composition and other forms of manipulation.

Forensic photo expert Prof. Jeff Sedlik told TMZ that the actual print appears authentic as well. He says the paper on which the photo is printed appears consistent with the brands used in the '50s. The print's emulsion includes cracks that seem to have developed over time.

Sedlik also superimposed on the photo an image of Kennedy taken at the Democratic National Convention in August 1956. Taken just days before he embarked on his Mediterranean cruise, the convention photo's features match those of the new yacht image, Sedlik says.

Two Kennedy biographers also told TMZ that after examining the image, they believe the man to be JFK.

Was it actually Napalitano who revised her statement? The radio report I heard just said Homeland Security said the system failed, they didn't mention that it was a statement from Napalitano.

I did hear the whole interview from yesterday with Couric. Couric gave Napalitano every chance in hell to "revise" her statement yesterday, Napalitano just went full steam ahead.

Embarrassing in my opinion.

Well, Napalitano *is* HSA.

What is amazing to me about all of this is how it shows the Right wing suddenly feels that it's gloves off for anyone who wasn't a "conservative" - even dead presidents who are revered by the nation.

Remember them booing FDR's name during the latest "protest" in DC about health care reform?

You wouldn't get that a few years ago. You might have had some Conservatives grumbling a bit at the mentioned names and saying something about how such and such policy was a bad idea, or whatever, but you didn't have them showing complete lack of respect for FDR or JFK. Now it appears that this has changed as well and anyone who wasn't a "conservative" was just a "traitor".

It's complete and utter insanity.

But we know this already because, as I stated the other day, their political rallying cry has become "kill the other side" - AKA "lock and load".

Truly batshit crazy.

I once had a guy from Bell Helicopter fly first class from Fort Worth to Philadelphia to deliver a hand made template for a piece of weather stripping because they could not fax me a drawing. One of the things he told me was that you can never blame an individual. Doesn't matter how dumb the operator was, how hungover, whatever, the corrective action always has to address the system. I guess the reason for that is that the operator must have been poorly swupervised or trained, and that would be a flaw of the system.

I'm OK with profiling, to the extent that anyone whose profile does not include a passport or some reasonable equivalent document should not be getting on a damn plane.

Small Island.

Small gene pool.

Bigger gene pool than you might expect, really.

Years ago I read a 'Guide to Ethnic London', which talked about the black community in London in the 1700s, which mostly consisted of emancipated slaves. For various historical reasons, almost all men. The author commented that what happened to this community of several thousand is a mystery.

Mystery my ass. Crossbreed one Ibo guy with four generations of blond barmaid, and we have, well, London.

The Israeli chachka industry produces giant amounts of silver jewelry set with 'Roman glass'--ie, Roman-era glass pieces, which they dig up in huge quantities from the archaelogical sites. I just wondered why no one else seems to have a Roman glass jewelry industry.

OT - Breaking.

Obama will be making a public statement regarding Flight 253.

[Link: www.washingtonpost.com...]

I posted this in the previous entry:

Well, according to Michelle Malkin...this Obama bastard is a disgrace for not wearing a tie at his press conference and he did not call for revenge on all brown people.

Update 3pm Eastern. Obama doesn’t bother to wear a tie. He hastily reads a belated statement describing the incident like a small-town sheriff’s deputy rather than the leader of the free world. He ticks off investigative steps in a perfunctory, plodding, bloodless manner. “We will continue to every element of our national power to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat the violent extremists…anywhere where they are plotting attacks against Americans.”

Eyes down on his paper the whole time — not looking at the camera and directing his statements at our enemies.

He talks about “resilience” as a foreign concept, not something he believes in in his heart.

Rushes through the end of his statement with a postscript about the violence in Iran.

Couldn’t get off the podium fast enough.

Inspiring.

This weekend Mary Maitlin said:

I'm assuming what she means is that it was Clinton's fault and not that 9/11 did not happen while Bill Clinton was President, but with Republicans lately you just can't be sure. Of course Dana Perino said earlier this that no terrorist attacks happened on Bush's watch.

Swupervision is the key word here.

There's an interesting sea-glass (cottage) jewelry industry. And then some people found that it's possible to fake sea-glass. I'd expect it's the same with certain 'authentic' Roman glass jewelry. In fact, faking antiquities has been a profitable business since....antiquity.

"But the idiocy doesn’t even stop there, because Cuba was taken over by Castro’s forces in 1959."

The idiocy goes even further for the Harpy: Cuba was not American territory. It was not Puerto Rico. It was formally an independent country, although the US had the right to intervene in its affairs according to the US-written Cuban Constitution.

Also remember that Castro was seen approvingly in 1959, until he started messing with American economic interests in the island and then openly embraced Marxist-Leninism joining the Soviet block.
