Danish police have shot a Somali man linked to al-Qaida who tried to enter the home of an artist who drew controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.

The man, a 28-year-old Somalian who was armed with an axe and a knife, was caught trying to break into the home of Kurt Westergaard at 10pm local time on Friday, police said.

Police shot the man, injuring him in his leg and arm. He was taken into custody and is expected to recover.

Mr Westergaard, 74, was commissioned by the Jyllands-Posten newspaper to produce caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed five years ago, including one which depicted the Prophet with a bomb in his turban.

Jakob Scharf, who heads the Danish intelligence service, PET, said the attack was “terror related”.

“The arrested man has according to PET’s information close relations to the Somali terrorist group, al-Shabaab, and al-Qaida leaders in eastern Africa,” he added.

Mr Westergaard, who has received several death threats since the cartoon was published, was at home in Viby near the western city of Aarhus, and guarded by police, when the intruder tried to get in.

You know, I really disliked most of those cartoons, and I thought it was tacky to specifically commission them.

However, ever since then, events keep conspiring to make me sympathize with the cartoonists. Good grief.

Good on the Danish cops.

EXCLUSIVE: Obama Got Pre-Christmas Intelligence Briefing About Terror Threats to “Homeland”

Wow, that sounds like a fuckup! tell us MOAR!

President Barack Obama received a high-level briefing only three days before Christmas about possible holiday-period terrorist threats against the US, Newsweek has learned. The briefing was centered on a written report, produced by US intelligence agencies, entitled “Key Homeland Threats”, a senior US official said.

OMG! ZOBAMA WEAK ON TERRER! Please, newsweek, TELL US!

What’s that? Read the second paragraph, and ignore the headline and first scary paragraph? Why would we want to do that?

Asked about what kind of intelligence reporting was circulated to senior officials about possibly holiday period attacks before the failed underpants attack, a US intelligence official, who also asked for anonymity, explained: “As everybody knows, terrorists often speak in coded language, especially when they think their communications might be intercepted. There was no clear discussion of an attack, on Christmas or any other time, in the Middle East or anywhere else. But as veiled as the message was, it was spotted, processed, analyzed, and presented to senior policymakers as a warning sign-however vague-of a holiday attack. While this was handled properly, there were, to put it mildly, virtually no details at all. That happens.” When Newsweek asked a senior Administration official about this characterization of a warning which was passed to White House policymakers, and whether it tracked what was presented at the December 22 Presidential briefing, the official would not comment.

WOW! So did Obama receive a briefing one month before the attack entitled “Random Nigerian With Exploding Underpants Determined To Attack Within the US”? He must have, right? What else could explain your headline and breathless fearmongering first paragrapgh?

Oh hey, what’s this in your final paragraph, newsweek?

Presidential aides are concerned that Obama will somehow be unfairly accused of dropping the ball on the fight against terrorist in Yemen — a country where, in fact, the evidence suggests Obama, as early as last summer, ordered a significant increase in US intelligence activity.

Yes, ‘somehow’ Obama ‘might’ be unfairly accused of dropping the ball. Who would do such a thing, newsweek? Who? Who?
Surely not someone such as yourselves.

BTW, this will clearly be the wingnut ball to pick up and run with today. Just sayin.

Someone mentioned the other day an email or a comment found elsewhere that started with something like “Every nation led by a black man fails.”
Interestingly, I recognised that line and the unhinged racist rant that followed as a crudel paraphase of part of a chain email that started making the rounds in 2008 AFAIK— that is, during the campaign.

Anyway, the bit I quoted above from the comment you found is perfectly in line with it. I suspect he saw it as well. If not, it’s a perfect illustration of what that is supposed to invoke: the bit you bolded about ‘their homeland’ and taking ‘them’ back there.

That would be fine if I was just working the sales floow. I have to haul furniture, price it, fix it, move it again, take it out to the cars and trucks… actually only a small time is spent “selling,” most of the time is spent moving furniture and electronics from the production area in the warehouse to the sales floor. A guy in Chattanooga died last month after getting tased 3 times. The police said he got combative so they had to use the taser. A witness says differently:
[Link: www.newschannel9.com…]

The witness says she saw Buckner fall to his knees and the woman holding him began asking him, “Why are you doing this?”

The witness says Buckner appeared weak, as though he was having trouble standing.

While Buckner was on the ground, staff brought out a wheelchair. But the witness says they couldn’t lift Buckner into the chair. That’s when Erlanger Police came out.

If you buy the official autopsy, which concluded he died of natural causes due to pulmonary embolism (and the tasering had nothing to do with it), her statement fits. Meaning, the guy was in the process of dying and they tased him 3 times. That is so screwed up.

Jeebus! Mortality from untreated Pulmonary Embolism is thought to be 26% - that study is 40 years old, though. The Pulmonary Artery becomes blocked but the heart keeps pumping, and there is no where for the blood to go. Everything start backing up and the Right Ventricle will enlarge. You can’t catch your breath, and when you do breathe it hurts. If worst comes to worst the Right Ventricle or the Pulmonary Artery blows out and you are freakin’ gone.

And they zapped this poor guy? How was he a threat? Every breath feels like Babe Ruth is using your ribcage for batting practice.

Ugh.

If a guy’s on the ground, it’s time for EMS. Period. End of story. He’s certainly not a threat. WTF is wrong with the training in these places? It’s not even like Chattanooga’s some podunk backwater. It isn’t even unreasonable to expect the police to have some minimal level of EMT training, like a Red Cross first aid course, which is available for nominal cost.

It can be controlled by Anticoagulation therapy, thankfully. Bloodthinners are a pain in the ass - after you get the loading dose, you have to go and have your level checked appx once a month. And it will get out of balance for no good reason, and you’ll be checking once a week for a little while. But it’s a lot better than a having a stroke, clot or Pulmonary Embo!

Who Will Take Responsibility for the Islamic Radicalisation at UCL?

Qasim Rafiq is currently the Head of Media at FOSIS. He was at UCL between 2004 to 2008 and was a contemporary of the terrorist bomber Abdulmutallab. They knew each other well, as he admits in this BBC video interview. Rafiq now speaks of his “huge shock” and makes a ”categorical” denial that Abdulmutallab displayed any outward signs, anti-American anger or meetings with radicals, which subsequently led to his extremism.

FOSIS executives are now well into denial mode because they are part of the Islamist radicalisation problem in British universities.

It is time Malcolm Grant, provost of UCL, accept and admit to this. The buck must stop here.

[Link: www.newschannel9.com…]

Yeesh.

So they trained him in how to use the taser, but didn’t bother training him in how to do his job.

NewsChannel 9 has learned that Webb was fired from the Chattanooga Police Department in 2005 after he stunned a suspect in handcuffs.

This should have been a warning sign for the hospital that hired this guy to be a security guard.

Or to the company that hired him. Typically, security guards aren’t directly employed by the hospital or the company that they protect; they workd for an independent company that contracts it’s services out to companies that need security.

However, I agree that this should have been a warning flag. Most security companies have several different positions they need to fill, many of which don’t require (or allow) guards to carry weapons of any sort. Given this guy’s past history, it might have been wiser to place him in an environment where tasers weren’t permitted.

What likely happened, though, is they noted this guy carried taser certification, figured, “Hey! We can save the fifteen dollar cert fee on this candidate!” and never really bothered to look at the rest of his record other than to use it as an excuse to justify the low pay they offered.
