Shocka! Fox News Panel Destroys Nontroversy

Weird • Views: 3,348

Here’s a welcome moment of sanity on Fox News, via Media Matters (head explodes) as commentators on the Fox Special Report show, including Charles Krauthammer, tear apart one of the latest outrageous overheated conspiracy theories — the strange tale of Executive Order 12425 and the Interpol Sovereignty Takeover That Wasn’t. They set it up with extended, fully in context recordings of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Newt Gingrich. All I can say is “ouch,” with apologies to Donald Fagen.

Ugh, it’s painful watching Gingrich waltz down that path. I never really thought he walked on water or anything, but I’ve heard him say lots of things that seemed fairly sensible and rational.

Of course Newt knows better. Beck isn’t stupid. He’s just crazy and even he knows better. Michell Malkin knows better and she pushed the story too.

And all three of them succeeded in beclowning themselves on this one. For Beck this one is especially bad, since he got burned by his own network.

Not “gays” but “gay”. Rush thinks there is at least one. Or maybe he’s using the term in the sense that I would have in junior high, “gay” meaning “lame”, as a critique on the installation. Or perhaps he is simply using the term in the original sense, to mean Gitmo is a happy place.

I suppose we’ll never know.

It looks like they did. The base group for the study was men who had participated in a previous study:

Although erectile dysfunction (ED) is considered a well-established risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), few studies have investigated whether other aspects of sexual function might predict CVD independently of ED. In a longitudinal, population-based study of community-dwelling men participating in the Massachusetts Male Aging Study, we examined sexual function variables (including ED) and the subsequent development of CVD.

Obama’s Executive Order:

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including section 1 of the International Organizations Immunities Act (22 U.S.C. 288), and in order to extend the appropriate privileges, exemptions, and immunities to the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), it is hereby ordered that Executive Order 12425 of June 16, 1983, as amended, is further amended by deleting from the first sentence the words “except those provided by Section 2(c), Section 3, Section 4, Section 5, and Section 6 of that Act” and the semicolon that immediately precedes them.

Which makes Reagan’s Executive Order:

By virtue of the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and statutes of the United States, including Section 1 of the International Organizations Immunities Act (59 Stat. 669, 22 U.S.C. 288), it is hereby ordered that the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), in which the United States participates pursuant to 22 U.S.C. 263a, is hereby designated as a public international organization entitled to enjoy the privileges, exemptions and immunities conferred by the International Organizations Immunities Act; except those provided by Section 2(c), the portions of Section 2(d) and Section 3 relating to customs duties and federal internal-revenue importation taxes, Section 4, Section 5, and Section 6 of that Act. This designation is not intended to abridge in any respect the privileges, exemptions or immunities which such organization may have acquired or may acquire by international agreement or by Congressional action.

Now reads like this:

Or:

By virtue of the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and statutes of the United States, including Section 1 of the International Organizations Immunities Act (59 Stat. 669, 22 U.S.C. 288), it is hereby ordered that the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), in which the United States participates pursuant to 22 U.S.C. 263a, is hereby designated as a public international organization entitled to enjoy the privileges, exemptions and immunities conferred by the International Organizations Immunities Act. This designation is not intended to abridge in any respect the privileges, exemptions or immunities which such organization may have acquired or may acquire by international agreement or by Congressional action.

What are Section 2(c), Section 2(d), Section 3, Section 4, Section 5, and Section 6 of this Act - Public Law 79-291?

Section 2(c) and 2(d)

Sec. 2. International organizations shall enjoy the status, immunities, exemptions, and privileges set forth in this section, as follows:

(c) Property and assets of international organizations, wherever located and by whomsoever held, shall be immune from search, unless such immunity be expressly waived, and from confiscation. The archives of international organizations shall be inviolable.

(d) Insofar as concerns customs duties and internal-revenue taxes imposed upon or by reason of importation, and the procedures in connection therewith; the registration of foreign agents; and the treatment of official communications, the privileges, exemptions, and immunities to which international organizations shall be entitled shall be those accorded under similar circumstances to foreign governments.

Section 3

Sec. 3. Pursuant to regulations prescribed by the Commissioner of Customs with the approval of the Secretary of the Treasury, the baggage and effects of alien officers and employees of international organizations, or of aliens designated by foreign governments to serve as their representatives in or to such organizations, or of the families, suites, and servants of such officers, employees, or representatives shall be admitted (when imported in connection with the arrival of the owner) free of customs duties and free of internal-revenue taxes imposed upon or by reason of importation.

Section 4

Sec. 4. The Internal Revenue Code is hereby amended as follows:

[Followed by tax law exemptions and wording.]

Section 5

Sec. 5. (a) Effective January 1, 1946, section 209 (b) of the Social Security Act, defining the term…

[Followed by social security tax law exemptions and wording.]

Section 6

Sec. 6. International organizations shall be exempt from all property taxes imposed by, or under the authority of, any Act of Congress, including such Acts as are applicable solely to the District of Columbia or the Territories.

There you have it folks. Most of this deals with customs duties taxes, employment taxes, and social security. The main point is that they will be immune from search “unless such immunity be expressly waived, and from confiscation” which I assume is in the context of airport security and INTERPOL. My only question is why is Section 2(d) missing from the new Executive Order?

None, it’s all taxes and customs. The only thing I see is that they get to walk in and out of an airplane and airport without being searched.

Giving Interpol “immunity” isn’t a conspiracy. It’s just another example of the statists believing the people who pay the bills shouldn’t have the ability to see the records. Nothing new here. Please go ahead and continue to trust your betters to do the right thing.

113 acacia  Sun, Jan 10, 2010 8:12:25am

I don’t see how any person in their right mind could come to the conclusion that a routine executive order - simply modifying one already in place by virtue of Reagan’s Exec. Order - means anything beyond its obvious routine language. This really stuns me as, if it means anything at all, it gives Interpol a little better perk and thus a better working relationship - all of which should HELP us in the war on radical Islam. The inability to discern real issues from nonsensical ruminations is only going to hurt us all in the long run.
