Mahathir: If the US Could Make ‘Avatar’ They Could Fake 9/11

World • Views: 7,530

We haven’t heard from former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad for a while, but he’s back in the news today with a whacked out pronouncement to a pro-Palestinian conference that equals or surpasses his other freakazoid statements: If US Could Create ‘Avatar’, It Could Fake 9/11 Attacks.

Malaysia’s former premier Mahathir Mohamad said on Wednesday there was “strong evidence” the US faked the September 11 terror attacks as an excuse to go to war against Muslims.

“There is strong evidence that the attacks were staged. If they can make Avatar, they can make anything,’ Mahathir told the Conference for the Support of Al-Quds (Jerusalem), as quoted by local media.

That’s the Islamic version of the 9/11 Troof movement. But Mahathir’s other remarks are even worse. The former prime minister is not a Holocaust denier. He’s a Holocaust admirer.

The former premier also blamed Jews for hindering progress in US foreign policy. Voicing his disappointment that Barack Obama had not yet ended the war in Afghanistan or closed the US terror detention center at Guantanamo, he explained that “there are forces in the United States which prevent the president from doing some things. One of the forces is the Jewish lobby.”

Jews “had always been a problem in European countries. They had to be confined to ghettoes and periodically massacred. But still they remained, they thrived and they held whole governments to ransom,” Mahathir said.

“Even after their massacre by the Nazis of Germany, they survived to continue to be a source of even greater problems for the world.”

Well, scratch Malaysia for potential honeymoon locations.

“Even after their massacre by the Nazis of Germany, they survived to continue to be a source of even greater problems for the world.”

Screw you. We're going to keep surviving, too. We've gotten really good at it. Better than you bastards are at killing us.

And heaven forbid if Alex Jones chimed in. It would make 2012 look like a cakewalk.

And by 'they', he means 'the Jews'. I'm surprised he even admits that we were massacred repeatedly. I guess he's just using it as 'proof' that Jews needed killing, 'cuz, hey, why would they have been killed otherwise? Must be because we were 'holding governments for ransom'.

Why, oh why, does "pro-Palestinian group" so often have to mean "platform for Jewish and/or Israel hating nut cases"? I have a lot of sympathy for the Palestianians, I really do. They have been royally screwed over by many people, including their own leaders and fellow Arab and Muslim countries who seem more intent on using them as a stick to beat Israel with rather than doing anything for them. As long as they are associated with this kind of thing, though, I really can't make myself get involved in their cause.

Yes, because then it could be used for a frame-by-frame comparison to show that 9/11 happened in an alternate reality.

/I'm sarcastic now, but in a few years I'd be willing to bet the Twoofers will be saying exactly that.

32 ryannon  Fri, Jan 22, 2010 11:05:33am

Picked up this link somewhere on LGF a while back, but it's worth re-posting given the present discussion of CGI. This is probably the best ever done to date:

Blog commentrary:

Commentary:

"Assuming you've seen the film through to the end, and that you're the
curious sort, you're probably thinking about how the computer-generated
effects were combined with the live footage, but what if I told you that
EVERYTHING you just saw was computer-generated, EVERY LAST FRAME of it?
What if I added that the entire effort was seen through by just a single
individual? Granted, it seems to have taken this Alex Roman guy a year's
worth of effort to put the whole thing together, but considering how long
(and how much money) it took James Cameron to make "Avatar", one man
spending one year to put together a short like this is truly an incredible
feat.

Perhaps most impressive of all, though, and most indicative of the future,
is that Alex Roman put it all together using commercially available,
off-the-shelf software: Autodesk 3ds Max, V-Ray, Adobe After Effects and
Adobe Premiere. Sure, the cost of these packages add up to several
thousand dollars, but when you consider that a Canon 5D Mark II, a 24-70mm
f/2.8 lens and a 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom cost even more, while even a
"low-end" RED camera goes for $17,500, the expense associated with the 3D
packages starts to seem like peanuts. It is clear that a new world of
low-cost, high-quality film-making and special-effects is opening up,
where you won't need a multi-million dollar budget to make a splash, just
lots of talent, a compelling vision and a willingness to work hard to
realize it (though in the end, these are the things which are always in
shortest supply, aren't they?).

PS: For anyone tempted to say that this is a hoax, I suggest watching this
video

which gives a little insight into how the film was put together."

The reason that the "Palestinian cause" is a magnet for Jew-hating freaks, is that cause of the "Palestinians" is to destroy Israel.

If all they really wanted was a state of their own alongside of Israel, they could have had it long ago and it would be a flourishing luxury resort on the Mediterranean with the economy of Dubai and Singapore.

So fuck the Palestinians and their cause.

Haiti is such a desirable island to control, obviously. I mean, you get to deal with the earthquakes, the storms, the endemic poverty; whey wouldn't the US want to take it over?

If there's been one 'good' thing about Haiti in terms of public consciousness, it's that maybe some people in the US who hadn't realized it have now realized just how insane much of the anti-US sentiment in the world is. How sheerly and obviously it is jealousy writ large.

The Palestinians have long been used as a model for other Islamic uprisings in Thailand, Iraq and Afghanistan. The goal is to make themselves suffer as much as possible and wallow in their misery in a masochistic ploy for sympathy. It's really tough to defeat an enemy who's willing to make it's own people suffer bombings and beheadings. The people don't seem to mind much either because their hatred of others outweighs their own survival instincts.

9/11 was an excuse to go to war with Muslims? 1993 WTC Bombing? 1998 bombing of US embassies and jihad declared on US by al Qaeda? USS Cole attack? Islamic jihadis have been waging war against the US for years. The US got a wakeup call on 9/11 that the jihadis meant business. After that fateful day, the US has been playing whack a jihadi across the globe - and yet al Qaeda continues calling for jihad - using the religion of Islam as its banner and clarion call for war against Israel and the West (London bombings, Madrid bombings, Bali bombings, attempted bombings of multiple planes (Bojinka), shoe bomber, underwear bomber, etc.). The agitprop comes from the likes of bin Laden, Zawahiri, Zarqawi, and plenty of other jihadis who made videos or audios to further the cause of jihad against the US.

Conspiracy theories like this are a staple of third world media, and their audience is fully conditioned to accept them as a matter of course. Hugo Chavez's claim that the US caused the Haitian earthquake is another example. He knows his mob and he was apparently confident that he could make this absurd claim without being laughed out of the country.

This is consistent with a prediction I have been making for 20 years, that paranoid mega-conspiracy theories would eventually become a major factor in both domestic and international politics. The exponential expansion of media access, and the resulting information overload among people who lack the intellectual and cultural tools to process it rationally, is the basic cause. This is not limited to the third world either.

re: #64 Shiplord Kirel

Indeed. Chavez was elected by the bottom rung of the populace. The poorest and least educated.

I think it is limited to the third world, or at least non-Western countries. I don't think any democratic, prosperous nation would by into this stuff, outside of a few wackos. Malaysia is a monarchy no?

Does this mean that we should have invaded Auckland?

I think you're onto something. After all, one of my favorite sci-fi movies, The Quiet Earth, was made in New Zealand in 1985. It had some great effects and already featured a HAARP-like machine causing almost everyone on Earth to disappear in a literal flash.

Meanwhile, police in Kuala Lumpur said on Thursday that vandals tried to torch a Muslim prayer room, one of the few attacks on an Islamic place of worship after nearly a dozen churches were firebombed amid a dispute over the use of the word “Allah” by Christians.

It's really not a big stretch to go from the above recent action to Mahathir Mohamad's statements. The fact that a group as unsecure and paranoid that would ban a word used by someone outside the group certainly provides the groundwork for the fantasies of a "leader" of said group.

Drudge (who links to Alex Jones in his blogroll) is pushing an article today from Cryptonazi Pat Buchanan....
Has Obama lost white America?

What explains the white surge to the GOP?

First, sinking white support for Obama, seen as ineffectual in ending the recession and stopping the loss of jobs.

Second, a growing perception that Obama is biased. When the president blurted that the Cambridge cops and Sgt. James Crowley "acted stupidly" in arresting black Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates – a rush to judgment that proved wrong – his support sank in white America and especially in Massachusetts, where black Gov. Deval Patrick joined in piling on Crowley. Deval is now in trouble, too.
.....
So what have Obama and Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi been doing for a year? Crafting a federal takeover of health care with a vast plan that provides coverage for the uninsured – most of whom are minorities – while sticking it to Medicare recipients, 80 percent to 90 percent of whom are white.

Immigrants are 21 percent of the uninsured, but only 7 percent of the population. This means white folks on Medicare or headed there will see benefits curtailed, while new arrivals from the Third World, whence almost all immigrants come, get taxpayer-subsidized health insurance. Any wonder why all those tea-party and town-hall protests seem to be made up of angry white folks?

Sure maybe they put up a bunch of 100008000000-p monitors with 842394023984 speakers around the city plus 1230000 tons of explosives to fake the video impact and sound of two colossal buildings collapsing causing billions in damage. And then they programmed the wires to blend in with the rest of the city so that nobody could tell. The same team was realized by Hollywood as having prodigious talent, and were hired to make a movie. The only restriction was no allusions to 9/11.

Uh oh. Mahathir bin Mohamad must have not been informed that one of the companies involved in the special effects for Avatar was WETA Digital for the "underlying operating system, Linux RHEL."

WETA is a New Zealand company and Linux is the brainchild of Linus Torvalds who is Finnish. That put New Zealand and Finland behind the "Mahathir bin Mohamad-911 Was an Avatar Job" conspiracy theory.

Oh, forgot to mention that they used Sony digital cameras during production putting the Japanese in the mix. It's an international conspiracy!!11111!!

Over the past week, the work of the Israeli medical team has become a kind of Rorschach for how people view Israel and Israelis. Most of the comment, it must be said, is supportive. Even on the part of those who cast the humanitarian misery in Gaza in contrast.

But for a shocking number of others, the bottom line is simple: Israel,

According to news reports of 9-18-2001, some Saudi prince opined that the attacks were a conspiracy cooked up between Israel and the USA to make muslims look bad, or something like that. Curiously, thousands of civilians in Tehran turned out with candles for a street vigil in sympathy for America and the 9/11 victims that same day --one full week after the attacks.

Maybe Mahathir Mohamad just didn't get his demonize USA and Israel instructions in a timely way.

California's DMV had a computer systems crash today so that everything had to be done by hand.

A systemwide computer failure at the California Department of Motor Vehicles caused several hours of delays at all 168 offices Thursday.

The offices remained open, but with computers unable to connect to the state's network, DMV workers were forced to do everything by hand, such as processing driver's licenses and registrations, DMV spokeswoman Jan Mendoza said.

"They're collecting paperwork and processing it later," Mendoza said while the computers were down.

DMV offices began experiencing problems connecting to the state's network around 11 a.m. Offices started to connect back around 2 p.m.

The failure comes a day before DMV offices will close for a mandatory furlough day, meaning customers could have to wait even longer for service.

The scary truth is that almost no one actually gives a damn about the Palestinians. They are treated solely as a stick with which to poke the Israeli fire.

They weren't running fine in 1929, and in 2009 the situation threatened to be even worse. The point is, a certain minimum of regulation is needed to keep the system working for the benefit of everyone and not just those at the top.

Starting with the repeal of Glass-Steagall (granted, under Colinton) and the subsequent lack of enforcement of the weakened remaining oversigh legislation, the banks were allowed to run the entire economy into a state that was dire enough to threaten our very existence.

We could have let the market sort things out, i suppose, and right about now our major cities would make the current siruation in Port-au-Prince look like a Quaker Sunday meeting.

206 lawhawk  Fri, Jan 22, 2010 12:03:43pm

Hope, change and more of the same: The Justice Department's task force on Gitmo has declared that it would seek to indefinitely detain 50 of the 196 detainees.

But the efforts of the task force, which this week completed its case-by-case review of the detainees still being held at Guantanamo Bay, allows the Obama administration to claim at least a small measure of progress toward closing the facility.

"We're still moving forward and in a much more deliberate and less haphazard manner than was the case before," said an administration official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the recommendations have not been made public. "All policies encounter reality, and it's painful, but this one holds up better than most."

The task force has recommended that Guantanamo Bay detainees be divided into three main groups: about 35 who should be prosecuted in federal or military courts; at least 110 who can be released, either immediately or eventually; and the nearly 50 who must be detained without trial.

Administration officials argue that detaining terrorism suspects under Congress's authorization of the use of force against al-Qaeda and the Taliban is legal and that each detainee has the right to challenge his incarceration in habeas corpus proceedings in federal court.

Seeing that the Bush Administration had detained more than 500 at one point at Gitmo and had repatriated quite a few (with some returning to their prior employment in the jihad), this isn't a change from the status quo so much as rearranging the deck chairs.

Banks were loaning money to people who couldn't pay it back, and not just because Congress forced them to. They had developed a system of raking in short-term profit based on it, and it worked fine for a a decade or so.

The analogy I like to present is that of a traffic light at busy intersections: one can see it as "government interference in freedom of movement", but it can also be seen as a way of making the intersections work for everyone, not just those with the biggest SUV's.

So we took down the traffic lights, and when we hit gridlock, Obama has to come out and be the Traffic cop (a much more costly and inefficient solution) to get things moving again.

Given this line of logic, wouldn't it be New Zealanders who were behind 9/11 (WETA Workshop, based in NZ, did special effects for Avatar).

Does this mean that we should have invaded Auckland?

No. Last I saw her was right after John Ritter died. On TV that is.

She is also one of the voice actors for "Futurama". A couple of episodes purposely made "Married, With Children" references to take advantage of that; e.g. her character getting a Peg Bundy hair-do.

Banks were loaning money to people who couldn't pay it back, and not just because Congress forced them to. They had developed a system of raking in short-term profit based on it, and it worked fine for a a decade or so.

I always have to respond from my real world view. I have several friends in the realty and mortgage business in Southern Cal. They did everything possible to get anyone into any home.

They made huge huge bank during the whole thing. Those adjustable mortgages were sold based on the ole "you know you'll be making more when it jumps" bullshit.

It wasn't just the poor who bought these homes, it was everyone and anyone. The banks did not require any real documentation and the Realtors and mortgage brokers just pushed it along, making huge commissions.

Yunno, Adam Smith, the Father of the Free Market, wrote that "markets are there to serve the people, people are not there to serve the markets".

We started to see the Free Market Ideology go to that extreme, nearly as bad as the ideology of Marxism was willing to sacrifice its own people in its name.

And if it had not been for a Marxist China and a (feudal Middle East) bailing us out, we might have gone the same way.

It's not the first time he's made some lunatic pronouncement like that. He does seem to have moments though when he accepts how backward Islam is, but can't quite seem to make the next logical step..

another quote from him a few years ago...

"We hire other people to do everything for us. The whole Muslim Ummah of 1.5 billion is one huge consumer society, procuring all our needs from outside our community, including our defense and security requirements. We produce practically nothing on our own, we can do almost nothing for ourselves, we cannot even manage our wealth."

Malaysia is aout 60% muslim, but the Chinese minority is responsible for pretty much everything that functions there. Grapeseed oil was this one. It was excellent. But, since I eat pre-meat now (eggs) I can go back to Dukes/Helmans.

Cost more for a pint of the vegan than a gallon of real mayo.

Is it more to make or does the manufacturer up the price just 'cause?

Mayonnaise on fries is also standard practice in Old Europe, the Dutch put satay sauce (peanut and chili) on theirs.

Satay sauce is an addicting substance. My sister-in-law (Chinese descent Malaysian from KL) makes it and if I'm lucky she makes extra and freezes it. So I end up with a pint (or quart) of it.

I tend not to make proper chicken skewers and cucumber to eat it with, but instead use it as a sauce to cover chicken breast pieces and potato wedges which I then bake. OM NOM NOM.

It's not a very comforting thought that Malaysia is one of the few muslim countries that's at least somewhat civilized, but still produced a leader (he was PM for over 20 years) who can come out with troofer type pronouncements.

From a now closed sandwich shop in downtown Pittsburgh, the Meal On a Bun.

8" roll. grilled sweet Italian sausage, grilled green peppers and onions, cheese, two fried eggs, french fries, sprinkled with oregano.

My boss referred to it as the "clogged artery on a bun" -- but still ate them. ;)

Once Primanti's got a name for putting fries *on* the sandwich a bunch of other places in Pittsburgh started doing it.

Now that's good stuff. Perfect thing to eat on the way to Kennywood.... if Kennywood is even still around. That way you can have a funnel cake for dessert.

Actually no, or at best, trivially so. Oil comes from all the tiny organisms that used to live in the sea, when temperatures were warmer and the (other than at the surface) the water was anoxic.

I worked on a non-profit board at one time, so platitudes/sayings like that got tossed around when we had training sessions and such.

I brought down the house the one lunch meeting by modifying the old "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." into...

"Give a man a fire and you keep him warm for a night. Set a man on fire and you keep him warm for the rest of his life."

The sandwich was just a snack we picked up at a gas station while we were wandering lost around upper Dublin. Usually, we indulged in a traditional Irish breakfast at the hotel dinner room in the mornings. Eggs any way you like, Irish bacon, sausage, fried potatoes, pudding, croissants, and a small selection of fruit.

Speaking of Irish bacon, anyone know where to get ahold of the genuine article? I like "normal" bacon, but the thick-sliced slabs of Irish bacon are just plain addicting and I've never seen anything like it States-side.

Malaysia?

There are 7 people in the entire fucking country who have ever seen a Jew.

What an asshole.

Slightly more than 7. Malaysia may have had its first contact with Jews in the 9th century via trading and settlement by Jews from Baghdad around 1830, most of whom were fleeing persecutions of Daud Pasha, the Governor of Bagdad. (As usual.) The community was 172 in 1899, with most of the original Jews fleeing due to the Antisemitism that swept though after the Yom Kipper War.

There is a Jewish cemetery on Jalan Yahudi Road, which was renamed, and about 100 Jews from the former USSR replaced the original settlers and live there now.

Here is their story on Penangstory.net

Here is the JewishVirtualLibrary Reference with pictures of the Jewish cemetery.

Terrorist threat level raised to 'severe'

Britain's terrorist threat level was raised tonight from “substantial” to “severe” - meaning that counter-terrorism agencies believe an attack is “highly likely”.

The measure was approved at a meeting of the Government’s Cobra emergency committee and announced by Alan Johnson, the Home Secretary.

The Times understands that the decision to raise the threat level is connected to the conference on Afghanistan taking place at Lancaster Gate, London, next Thursday.

Sources said there had been intensive discussions throughout the day relating to intelligence suggesting a possible attempted “spectacular” by an al-Qaeda affiliated group.

But, he turns around and spouts Trooferism and anti-Semitism. Does he believe it or is he pandering to his constituents?

That's the question isn't it ? There seems to be an awful lot of educated, westernised muslims, who seem perfectly rational and intelligent, but who still come out with statements that are absolutely nuts. It probably takes a lot of mental gymnastics to receive a western, scientific education and still try to be a muslim. Much more so than any other religion. Islam seems to be full of contradictions, but they can't be resolved with some theological debate 'cos the Koran is the literal word of allah and all that, so they just become used to holding completely contradictory ideas.
I don't think the situation has improved in the last fifty or sixty years either. I assume that educated muslims were more secular, or at any rate didn't take religion quite so seriously when Malaya, Pakistan etc were still under colonial rule. Or perhaps we just didn't realise at the time ?

Yeah, but let's not forget that the people who voted for him make up a good share of the people who are disappointed with him. Right or wrong, that's what they elected him to do. If he doesn't do it, his ratings will continue to drop.

The daily presidential tracking poll puts the presidential approval index at -18 today..

Arugula.
Gherkins.
Dijon mustard.
Orange juice and not coffee.

/these are just a few of the items michelle malkin considers 'elite'. Actually, her comment was 'what the hell is a gherkin'?

Imagine if Obama had called them cornichons, given Malkin's reaction to 'gherkin'.

A liberal blog responded with a post headed "Dear Michelle Malkin: A Gherkin Is A Pickle, and You Are A Moron".

I don't quite get the obsession with what the president eats or does not eat. You'd think this guy was our toddler, not an elected official going on fifty.

Humans Could Run 40 mph, in Theory

40 mph? That's nothing. This week alone we've seen Dem Senators and House members sprint faster than 40 from healthcare reform. Come November, they may receive speeding tickets for their pace as they retreat from other Obama Administration proposals. (Of course, they won't pay those tickets.)

It's an old thing that we must have gotten from the British: to compensate for feeling culturally and culinarially inferior to other parts of the world we seek to demonstrate our moral superiority by showing how "populist" and "non-elitist" we are by eating poorly...

No, but the British used to be even more ridiculous when it came to disparaging "fancy foreign food. America had it sneak in through the back door via its immigrant community and become ingrained enough to be part of the accepted culture.

Things have improved greatly in Britain over the past 20 years, but you can still find some of the worst food in Europe there.

That reminds me of the morning (my first in that city) when I either instinctively or fortuitously discovered a synagogue shining like an improbable jewel in the heart of a labyrinth of winding streets in the oldest quarter of Calcutta.

I was shocked recently when I talked with a coworker. He was a young spanish guy. I mentioned buying some stock when the market was down, and his reply was, "Oh, I don't do stocks, that's for white people!"

I was, frankly, surprised at that. Most of mainstream, middle-class America is in the market through 401k and IRA's with their employer. Is the market really perceived as some kind of elite thing?

Did you ask him if he was in the coke trade? Or coming from a gringo, would that have been considered rude?

re: #534 brookly red

eventually this class warfare crap has a backlash...

I don't think that trying to prevent the next severe recession/depression is a bad thing or qualifies as "class warfare". Have we already forgotten how close those clowns came to destroying the world economy? But for absolutely extraordinary (and extraordinarily expensive) measures we would be in a depression right now. Are we supposed to be OK with a repeat of that? Should we just pretend everything is fixed, when in fact NOTHING substantive has been done to prevent a recurrence?

It is most decidedly NOT "class warfare' to say that we should fix the financial system so that this can never happen again. And while you can argue over exactly how to do that, there is no reasonable fix that doesn't put a dent in Goldman Sachs' market cap. Tough cookies for them. I have zero sympathy for a firm that sells a security to a customer and shorts it simultaneously. And I refuse to think that Lloyd Blankfein has some sort of legal or moral right to roll the dice with our economy.

For that matter, owning stock in one of those firms makes you a risk taker with them. (That is, after all, the nature of an equity investment.) If you want to throw in with those guys, you had better be prepared for some volatility in that investment.

One article I read put it best: "too big to fail is too big to exist". No firm should have such a stranglehold on our economy that it KNOWS we have to bail it out. Fixing that situation is not "class warfare", anymore than Glass-Steagal was.

re: #605 garhighway

Pissing and moaning about the big, bad banker's big, bad bonuses isn't going to fix anything. Meaningful legislation that emplaces thoughtful regulation is what's called for.

And it's also what is entirely absent, both from Congress and from the President's latest gaseous speeches.

How it's possible to be completely, utterly ineffective when your party controls both houses of Congress and the White House is beyond me.

re: #606 SixDegrees

I don't give two shits and a damn about bonuses. But I want the problem fixed from a structural standpoint. That's what "too big to fail" means to me. And if it means we have to chop GS up into pieces, so be it. They have no vested right to own our economy.

Nor do they "own our economy" that is the myth that this populist attack is playing into. If anything, GS was very well hedged and showed fiscal responsibility in their part of the CDS fiasco. But this too was interpreted as "GS making secret bets against the housing market" instead of the good judgement it was.

Blaming the greedy bankers, especially the Jewish ones, is just a bit too tempting for many to resist.

Bull. It was media hype and panic which cause a market over-reaction. There are always pullbacks after bubbles. The "clowns" were the regulator's and credit agencies whose clumsy interference cause paper bankruptcies. The crash was always going to happen with the new rules in place. Had they been there during the S&L crises we would have been in true desperate straights far worse than the "credit crunch".

Okay … IMHO [and I have had to make matters related to Malaysia a significant focus of mine regarding my family’s future], Mahathir Mohamad has been a troll on the world stage … saying bat shite crazy shite far too often.

That said, he was the leader of a country while it took itself from being basically a tin and rubber economy to both a significant petroleum and technology powerhouse in Southeast Asia; while managing the harmony of a diverse populace … not always perfect, but competent leadership.

I asked my wife [a Chinese Malaysian] what she thought of these most recent quotes … the response …

“this is old fart should keep his mouth shut after sucking hundred of billions from the citizen the last 20 years....”

Oh well … what do I know?

612 Sacred Plants  Mon, Jan 25, 2010 9:22:02am

I understand his inveterate NAM/OIC/UN triangulation is counterproductive for his own country.
