You may not believe it after you see it, but everything in this 12-minute film was computer-generated. Absolutely everything.

And even more amazing: it was all done by one person, using off-the-shelf software and hardware to define a new state of the art for realistic CGI.

If you’re skeptical that the whole thing took place entirely on a computer’s hard drive, here’s how filmmaker Alex Roman did it.

The most suck ending since Spiderman 10.. Oh wait...

30 darthstar  Fri, Jan 22, 2010 6:20:17pm

That's pretty impressive. Me, I'm generating some Tuscan style slow-roasted pork spare-ribs right now (rosemary, paprika, chili-pepper, olive oil, salt, pepper, all-spice, thyme, coriander rub, set for a few hours, and now in the oven). Recipe called for sage, but I was fresh out...still smells good. And it's NOT CGI.

Food is good.

31 Tigger2005  Fri, Jan 22, 2010 6:20:28pm

Seriously, this looks better than anything filmmakers like Lucas and Peter Jackson spend gadzillions on. Who needs ILM and Weta? Some geek in his mom's basement can make the next Hollywood blockbuster.

It seems they worked out visas for the children to get them to Florida and have been integral in the efforts to get a base camp in action. I applaud them. 19 minutes ago

"So much to report on today there is 107 visas ready to go with a transport plane provided by USA military - names like Pierre Tawnya Pat these are heroes they have worked tirelessly to get these kids out of Haiti and to a safer better life - those 107 little kids are incredible - tonight we are all sleeping at airport we will secure 100 blankets, lots of diapers, wipes Gatorade, water and whatever else they may need for the flight back to the USA and to there new families - we all miss our families too- love you"

2 minutes ago:

"Big fires downtown tonight we are hauling butt thru the city i am not going to lie it's spooky :)"

He's got my support. Anyone who can donate blood (might not be used now but later), funds, aid, it's for a great cause.

Nah. I don't fly that often so 2 out of 2 is not that much. Usually I am in uniform when flying. My son got searched when he went to Disney World for his birthday. He was turning 18. I guess a single teenaged male claiming to be go to DisneyWorld did sound a little odd. He was NOT pleased. Said the guy was a little creepy when he did the groin. My nephew who met him in FL didn't get searched which annoyed my son even more.

Very pretty. But...boring. Instead of putting together a 12-minute snoozefest of effects - and a limited range of effects overall, for that matter - how about using those crazy skills to actually tell a story?

Pixar produces fairly high-end CGI features, but they could be done with crayons and still be just as successful, because they feature characters and stories that the audience actually cares about.
