Sunday Night Music: Tommy Emmanuel

This stunning video shows why Tommy Emmanuel is considered one of the best acoustic guitar finger-pickers in the world. You’ll probably recognize the tune, but you’ve never heard it played like this.

Here’s a little Amazon widget guy that lets you listen to samples of the other tunes on this fine record. If you click through and buy it, which I recommend highly, LGF gets a small percentage of the price from Mr. Bezos.

I was thinking of this Maxine Waters

We know there are no two people in the US of A with the same name, ever, who might show up on, oh, say, a White House visitor's list (or a musical recording).

i think he tries to add some sort of historical perspective by talking about vietnam and extremism in times of economic downturn. he tries to take some jabs at capitalism for good measure too, which i don't really get.

47 Flame Fin Tomini Tang  Sun, Jan 24, 2010 7:36:03pm

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) needs to come out with a “process to clarify all doubts” or else the “climate change doubters will take precedence”, South African Environment Minister Buyelwa Sonjica told The Indian Express.

I wonder what that new process could be? Apparently it can't be logic or reason, nor clarification or explanation and certainly it can't have any doubts or errors.

It's a pity Mr. Buyelwa Sonjica doesn't have any suggestions.

re: #46 SpaceJesus

Yeah--he seemed very flat in attitude towards the militia types. The "globalism'" theme might be another issue that leaps the left/right boundaries. The G20 ninjas are definitely spawn of the left, but then the Oathkeepers attacked the same target.

49 Radical Rafe  Sun, Jan 24, 2010 7:37:23pm

Being a Nash-Vegas homeboy, Tommy's playing, while different and unique to itself, will ever bring Chet Atkins to mind and memory. Love this stuff.

re: #46 SpaceJesus

Chris Hedges Seems to be one of the few "intellectual" influences one the doomsday movement. He does say some stuff about conspiracy theorists but he seems fairly nutty himself. He seems to be one of those folks who meet Alex Jones and the OathKeepers at the moronic convergence. He's just approaching from the left instead of the right.

re: #50 Killgore Trout

That's starting to make sense. I've probably heard of him in passing. (Possibly the guy who was ridiculously understanding of his captors.) Reading your link superficially, I'd say I'm more fer'im than agin'im.

52 Killgore Trout  Sun, Jan 24, 2010 7:53:21pm

re: #51 Decatur Deb

His comments towards the end of the documentary are very interesting. He's one of those lefties who's sympathetic towards the militias because the evil American system has made them violent and dangerous. If America wasn't so evil they'd be nice to us. The same take as Robert Fisk on Islamic terrorism.

The various pages following Dark_Falcon's link to the debate with Hitchens give some excerpts of what was discussed. Hitchens took Hedges to task over his defence of suicide bombers. The entire debate was originally on Youtube, but apparently it has been suspended over claims of a copyright violation.

Sounds like his religious bent has directed a lot of that. I like the fact that he's been downrange, so I'll look into him more. If he's 70% credible, that's a lot these days.

This is weird. Executive Producer: Kate Albright-Hanna
...considering:
CNN Producer Pitched 'Video Strategy' to Obama Campaign, Got Job

Kate Albright-Hanna, who runs the Obama campaign's online video operations, got the job after she pitched the campaign “a proposal on video strategy” -- while she was still a CNN producer.
[snip]

In the August 20 Washington Post article, “Obama's Wide Web: From YouTube to Text Messaging, Candidate's Team Connects to Voters,” reporter Jose Antonio Vargas outlined Albright-Hanna's strategy and role:

...Forget CNN, Fox News, NBC et al. Obama stars on his own channel, and it's headed by Kate Albright-Hanna, a self-described YouTube addict who runs Obama's video team.

It seemed to me that the documentary was, overall, generally sympathetic to the militia movement and to Alex Jones. Am I wrong?

56 Decatur Deb  Sun, Jan 24, 2010 8:05:54pm

re: #52 Killgore Trout

I'm agnostic, but find Hitchens an offensive evangelical. Hedges might be one of those people that can't draw anything but ambivalence. Militias are easier to apprehend.

re: #55 abolitionist

It seemed to be avoiding a position, although just allowing Jones and the others to describe themselves is "unsympathetic". That was done very successfully by the ladies who produced "Jesus Camp".

yeah, I got the impression hedges was the left wing version of the militiamen, but wasn't sure if that was the message the video was intentionally trying to send or not.
