Tea Party Convention Organizers Send Angry Email

US News • Views: 7,507

One of the problems with building a movement on a base of populist rage is that it tends to attract rage-a-holics who would rather die than compromise on anything at all, the kind of people who will just as easily turn their rage on each other when disagreements pop up.

Today the organizers of the National Tea Party Convention sent out an angry email demonstrating this principle, naming and attacking their critics and revealing some of the ugly infighting going on behind the scenes. Dave Weigel has the email: National Tea Party Convention Organizers Push Back.

You know they have to be ticked off when speakers like Michelle and Sarah have pulled out. They're getting the no show jones.

The lesson: Never write anything unless you're absolutely sure it can stand exposure.

Also, every frickin' person asks for money at the end of their email these days.

Sarah's still in, if I recall correctly. She suggested that the Tea Party combine with the GOP on the Greta show.

Shows how much I know. Even living in the heart of the supposed tea party zone, I never hear a thing about them. Never hear republicans talk about them.
I guess the press loves to keep reminding us that they're there.

She suggested that a bunch of grassroots organizers should combine with/gain equal status with an actual national party? Sure. That's called the Tea Partiers registering to vote Republican.

Seriously, if I were a Republican, that would make me punch a wall or somethin'.

Meanwhile, the RNC board of state governors, or whatever they're called, voted to reject a TP-inspired proposal requiring candidate "purity" in order to receive RNC funds. Unanimously. That's fully a third of the entire RNC leadership.

I doubt the TPers are going to find many friends in the GOP.

I'm pleased, as well. Even more so to see it rejected so adamantly. You can't carry elections without the moderate middle, and the moderate middle was considered far too "impure" to survive the purge they had in mind.

Tea Party Express – This group has been very supportive of us. They intended to do a small tour, culminating in an event Saturday afternoon prior to the banquet. Because of their efforts in the Scott Brown race and their intent to go after Harry Reid in Nevada, they simply cannot make the trip. We received a very nice email from them explaining their actions and restating their invitation to join them when they kick off their next tour in March. We will be there. We fully support their endeavors as they open their next tour in Nevada this spring.

Here's the Palin quote (if anyone cares)

Fox's Greta Van Susteren asked if tea party candidates would end up siphoning votes from GOP nominees, or if the movement will "merge with the Republican Party."

"They need to merge," Palin said. "Definitely, they need to merge. I think those who are wanting the divisions and the divisiveness and the controversy -- those are the ones who don't believe in the message. And they're the ones, I think, stirring it up."

Sarah is still collecting her 100K and showing up for the party.

re: #40 Walter L. Newton

From what I understand, it's ostensibly a single-issue "smaller government" / "less spending" agenda. Which, being a softcore libertarian, I could totally get behind. The problem is, it comes with all of the same tired social conservative baggage, and a particularly extreme form of it, so it's just a populist regurgitation of the same talking points that Republicans have failed to deliver on for decades now. Nothing new to see here.

Both good examples, but "It always works for a while" is subjective, in my opinion. For the "followers" it may, for those intelligent enough to stand back and look from the outside, it never appears to be working. I think the way many on LGF views the Tea Party supports that.

Yes - in fact, the Red Cross won't even let people like me who have lived for more than six months in Europe since 2001 give blood, because we might be carrying the disease. They'll reverse that if they get a test for the disease. I hope they do soon - I want to give blood again.

I was similarly floored when my gay friends said they were all banned from donating blood too.

That blew my mind. Apparently it's due to a 1985 law, back when people thought only teh gays could get AIDS.

If that law is still on the books, does that mean they don't regularly test straight-donated blood for the disease either?

Here's the FDA statement.

Blood donor testing using current advanced technologies has greatly reduced the risk of HIV transmission but cannot yet detect all infected donors or prevent all transmission by transfusions. While today’s highly sensitive tests fail to detect less than one in a million HIV infected donors, it is important to remember that in the US there are over 20 million transfusions of blood, red cell concentrates, plasma or platelets every year. Therefore, even a failure rate of 1 in a million can be significant if there is an increased risk of undetected HIV in the blood donor population.”

The mad-cow disease outbreak in the United Kingdom in the 1980s is to blame, sheep stomachs were banned because sheep get a form of mad cow called scrapie. It appears the sheep's lungs are used as an ingredient and lungs are banned from all food products in the USA

Git that. But someone said it can't even be made here in the US. What ever. I guess if you want it, you can certainly make it in your own home.

Dad can't donate because he had business in Haiti. Go to Haiti = no donate. Forever.

It's really starting to look like this Tea Party convention is going to flop. Instapundit originally said he wasn't going because they weren't allowing press coverage but he soon changed his mind. Today he has an article out claiming that the Tea Parties are fantastic because there's so little squabbling.

A lot of these Tea Party flops are quickly forgotten. Remember when The wingnuts were going to go on strike for the State of the Union speech? Michelle Bachman also called for another rally at the Capitol for the state of the union. Nobody showed up.

Yes - in fact, the Red Cross won't even let people like me who have lived for more than six months in Europe since 2001 give blood, because we might be carrying the disease. They'll reverse that if they get a test for the disease. I hope they do soon - I want to give blood again.

My whole family is no/go. We couldn't even give to a dying kid. That was from a military commissary meat supply. (The RC didn't even know about the haggis.)

I had my first taste of andouille in Paris a number of years ago. It's is sausage, as you know, it's similar to haggis, sometimes boiled in mustard. Do not buy the andouille sold in supermarkets, pre-packaged, it's not authentic.

107 Reginald Perrin  Sun, Jan 31, 2010 2:10:53pm

re: #91 Walter L. Newton

It has something to do with prions, which are found in the stomachs and intestines of sheep, as well as cattle. It is these prions that cause Mad Cow disease, so the USDA has banned stomachs from being used to produce food products.
Apparently tripe ( beef stomachs) are no longer allowed to be sold if it is from animals over 30 months of age.

Don't ask me why, I couldn't find anything to explain the logic that the USDA is using to justify the ban.

I've said this before, but this fixation on muscle meat - and only the best cuts of muscle meat - is pretty new. I remember as a kid we bought our meat at free-standing butcher shops, and they not only carried tongue, heart, liver, kidneys, brains, chitterlings, blood and what not, but had them all on display where people could actually see them. And they sold well. They were protein, they were cheap, and people were used to them. They were also used to more expensive cuts - sirloin, ribs and so forth - as relatively rare treats.

For a number of reasons, that has all changed. But it wasn't all that long ago that we ate very differently.

Very true. Even common things like liver aren't even sold in grocery stores anymore. People don't buy it, have no idea how to cook it and probably most people under 30 have never even tried it.

It depends on where you live, I think. I see tripe and the like at my local grocery store all the time.

The problem appears to be BSE, and lamb and beef products originating anywhere in England. Apparently, that ban remains in place.

Not sure why there's also a separate ban on sheep's lung. My first, rather unpleasant thought is that it's related to pulmonary anthrax.

Haggis produced in the US is OK. But purists claim it isn't the same.

Some people know their offal.

Seriously. It's one thing to turn your nose up at it without having tried it (usually, if it was part of an animal, i like it). But at the same time, only delicacies are ruined because one single ingredient is unavailable. Haggis may have character and fun, but delicacy?

Liver is a good example of one particular problem - it doesn't keep well. Supermarkets like meat that can stay on the shelf for several days to a couple of weeks. Something that turns south in two or three days generates too much waste for their liking, so they don't stock it. And since it isn't available, demand drops in a vicious circle.

You can still get liver at pretty much any actual butcher counter, although even there you sometimes have to order it.

Liver (and many other non-common) items are sold in many grocery store (chains) here in the south. Gizzards, pigs feet, etc. I think it's a more regional thing, as back when I was in Boston tripe was sold in the meat dept's, and Boston has a large Italian community which has several treipe recipes. Here, I don't see tripe except in the butcher shop

I have been meaning to get my hands on some foie gras, which I'm told is to die for. We'll see; it's expensive, and I'd be terrified of cooking it wrong.

You can look it up on the web I guess, but force feeding geese just to make their livers overly large doesn't appeal to me. I'm a real stickler about what animals I will and won't eat. Don't EVER serve me milk fed calf, or box raised veal! I won't even eat fish if the eyes are still on it! My imagination is just too good and I'm waaay to sensitive to ever eat anything "Baby" or looking at me! I had Crawdad when i went to Lafayette and I made them take the head off before I would try it. My boss laughed about that for months! Some Dragon I'd make for real...

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and suggest that everyone ought to kill at least one animal that they eat. Just to keep things in perspective.

wild animals taste really good. i don't hunt much, but when i have, it was for the express purpose of making very good use of the dear creature.

During the family's "Five Acres and Independence" phase, we raised rabbits for fur and food. Shouldn't have named them.

Larry Brown has written some stories about raising rabbits for meat and having to stop because he kept on having to lie to the local kids who played with them and asked why so many of them disappeared.

Not to be too graphic, but suckin' the heads is the best part of crawfish eating. Seriously.

There are alternatives to force-fed foie gras. Geese normally stuff themselves for weeks prior to migration, and store the fat in their livers; that's how the practice got started, just amplifying what the geese do normally. There are vendors who sell geese bloated by their own devices, rather than being force fed. The livers aren't as large, but I'm told they're quite good, and have less guilty aftertaste.

I agree about veal; I won't eat it unless I'm assured that that animal wasn't confined.

I grilled "lean" sirloin that my wife bought last night, but only because I didn't want to waste it. She asked why it didn't seem as tender as usual.

"Because you bought LEAN steak!"

I may have overreacted. On the other hand, I think she got the message that we should buy actual steak or no steak at all from now on...

Larry Brown has written some stories about raising rabbits for meat and having to stop because he kept on having to lie to the local kids who played with them and asked why so many of them disappeared.

That's why hunted rabbit tastes the best of all. Pop it with a little #5 or #6, skin it, gut it, quarter it & pan fry in olive oil. Maybe a bit of salt, pepper & rosemary. Pure heaven on a plate.

Acquired Tastes

My mother tried to poison me with sweetbreads, tongue, and liver.
For meals involving organ meats I never will forgive her.
Fried chitterlings and kidney pie were favorites on her menu,
but brains and eggs caused Dad and me to beg a change of venue
.
She consistantly persisted, despite my protestations.
"You're not old enough to like it!", she said as explanation.

Duck!

Make Lancaster CA a 'Christian community' sez mayor

Mayor R. Rex Parris of Lancaster, CA, a community north of Los Angeles, has a prescription for making the Antelope Valley city a better place to live: make it more Christian. "We're growing a Christian community," Mayor Parris told the audience at a Tuesday state of the city address. "And don't let anybody shy away from that." He also urged citizens to support a municipal ballot measure in April that would allow prayers, even sectarian prayers mentioning specific deities, at city meetings. The mayor sponsored the ballot measure after the ACLU, in response to complaints, sent the city a letter requesting "that Lancaster immediately cease opening its City Council and Planning Commission meetings with Christian prayers, or prayers that are specific to any one particular sect or religion" or face a lawsuit. [...]

Mayor Parris is not the only Lancaster politician to feel the heat over religious remarks lately. On January 23rd, City Councilwoman Sherry Marquez made some comments in Facebook about the case of a Muslim man accused of beheading his wife in Orchard Park, N.Y.

"This is what the Muslim religion is all about - the beheadings, honor killings are just the beginning of what is to come in the USA," She wrote. "We are told this is a small majority of Muslim's (sic) in America, but it is truly what they are all about. You disrespect/dishonor them or their religion and you should die (they don't even blink at killing their own wives/daughters, because they are justified by their religion)."

Reaction from the Muslim community, which makes up about 2.7% of the Antelope Valley population, was almost immediate. Kamal Al-Khatib, head of the Islamic Institute of the Antelope Valley, called the remarks insulting and inflammatory and said Islam does not condone murder.

"This is not acceptable coming from a woman who is in office," said Al-Khatib on Friday. "She has to respect the Constitution of the United States of America, which calls for respect for all religions."

Another poem...no I'm not serious..but as long as we're working our way into cannibalism..

Hunting Season
=====================
Me and Jim Fitzgibbons
went huntin' late last week.
But we didn't bag our limit
'cause the season hadn't peaked.

We was walkin' up on Main Street
when we flushed the first one out.
But I missed my shot, gol darned it
when Jimbo gave a shout.

"Hey, don't shoot that one, Hector,
He ain't legal yet!
They got's to have supporters
and mounds of campaign debt."

"You shoot them 'fore they're ready,
and there won't be any more.
Now wait til there's a big 'un.
Go on, get inside that door."

I moved back into hiding
and peeked out to see the street.
When you're out huntin' candidates
it pays to be discrete.

I waited really quiet
and hid behind the wall,
and then to help me find one
Jim used his huntin' call.

"I sure am mad at Congress,
and Clinton is a jerk.
They oughta make poor people
find jobs and go to work."

We waited then, in silence,
and hoped that they'd come see,
if there was campaign funds to gather
Then we'd get em, clear and free.

But they never showed their faces
and we moved to better ground.
To a church bazaar and social
where we knew they could be found.

Jim found a position
behind a tree out back,
While I stood out front and waited
with my huntin' dog, Ol Zack.

Jim started up a yellin'
'bout the right to own a gun.
And me, I started shoutin'
I wished Newt Gingrich had run.

So that's when we both saw him
sprintin' madly for his car.
Jim took a shot, then I did
before he got too far.

Nowadays he's hung nicely
on a plaque above my bed
Jim took the hindquarters,
since I'm partial to the head.

Now there's one less fool a runnin'
through the cities, burgs, and towns
But if you see any others
make sure Jim and me's around

We'll be by to bag our limit
with a cooler full of beers
After all, it's a short season
and we'll be waiting four more years.

re: #477 PT Barnum

Another poem...no I'm not serious..but as long as we're working our way into cannibalism..

Cannibalism? Sure!

Dan Rather, Jesse Jackson, Cokie Roberts from National Public Radio
and an Israeli soldier were hiking through the jungle one day when they
were captured by cannibals. They were tied up, led to the village and
brought before the chief.
The chief said, "I am familiar with your western custom of granting
the condemned a last wish. Before we kill and eat you, do you have any
last requests?"
Dan Rather said, "Well, I'm a Texan; so I'd like one last bowlful
of hot, spicy chili." The chief nodded to an underling, who left and
returned with the chili. Rather ate it all and said, "Now I can die
content."
Jesse Jackson said, "You know, the thing in this life I am
proudest of is my work on behalf of the poor and oppressed. So before I
go, I want to sing "We Shall Overcome" one last time." The chief said, "Go
right ahead, we're listening." Jackson sang the song, and then said, "Now
I can die in peace."
Cokie Roberts said, "I'm a reporter to the end. I want to take
out my tape recorder and describe the scene here and what's about to
happen. Maybe someday someone will hear it and know that I was on the job
til the end." The chief directed an aide to hand over the tape recorder,
and Roberts dictated some comments. She then said, "Now I can die happy."
The chief said, "And, Mr. Israeli soldier, what is your final wish?"
"Kick me in the ass." said the Israeli.
"What?" said the chief. "Will you mock us in your last hour?"
"No, I'm not kidding. I want you to kick me in the ass." insisted
the Israeli.
So the chief untied the soldier, shoved him into the open, and
kicked him in the ass. The Israeli went sprawling, but rolled to his
knees, pulled a 9mm pistol from his waistband, and shot the chief dead. In
the resulting confusion, he leapt to his knapsack, pulled out his uzi, and
sprayed the cannibals with gunfire. In a flash, the cannibals were all
dead or fleeing for their lives.
As the Israeli was untying the others, they each asked him, "Why
didn't you just shoot them? Why did you ask them to kick you in the ass?"
"What!?" said the Israeli, "And have you f***ers call ME the
aggressor?!?"

I asked a woman once why she was a vegan and she replied, "I don't eat anything that poops." which led to the following:

The Vegan
.
"So why are you a vegan?"
I asked her with a smile
Hoping she'd enlighten me
about her eating style.
.
She said, (munching a carrot)
"I'll tell you just what's it
Nothing shall get past my lips
that ever took a shit."
.
I pondered for a moment
Unsure what I could say
I wished not to offend her
Thus ruining her day
.
"But what about the plant life?"
It's not without its waste
In fact, photosynthesis
Could never be called chaste
.
Oxygen is given off
when changing light to food
The plant can't help excreting
regardless if it's rude.
.
So we're all breathing plant farts
We'd die without the gas
passed by all the daffodils,
chrysanthemums, and grass.
.
She said "Oh now you've done it!"
There's nothing left to do
Now I'll have to starve myself
and all because of you!
.
I hoped she'd reconsider
and change her meatless ways
perhaps chow down a burger
and steak on Saturdays
.
I should have been more careful
It really is a shame
She lies there, and feeds the grass,
And I'm the one to blame

So, I'm late to this thread so forgive me if this has already been kicked around. (Also, I'm here in Nashville, and a native Alaskan, and not entirely opposed the populist Tea Party milieu, so I've got a cross-section of related interests here.)

Few years ago, William F. Buckley Jr. was a guest on Limbaugh's show, discussing the genesis of National Review and the conservative movement. He spoke of the necessity "to excrete the kooks. You know, there were anti-Semites in the conservative movement and there were --- well, people whose sense of balance was disordered." The John Birch Society was mentioned as among those from whom any movement wishing to be taken seriously needed to distance itself. Maybe it's too early, or maybe wishful thinking on my part, but sooner or later the radical factions of Tea Party-ism like that fool with the "NIGGARS" sign are going to have be excreted or the whole notion of a reinvigorated, small-government conservative/libertarian confab is going down the rails to extinction if in fact it has not already sealed its own irrelevance by the goat-screw that is going surrounding this event here in Muzak City.

Wingnuts are freaking out over another Obama bow. It's funny how they just osculate between labeling him an arrogant elitist tyrant and a cowering weakling.

There's a problem with a bow to the mayor of Tampa? It's called being a nice guy.

Bummer. I hate people who don't control their dogs.

Had a family in the neighborhood some years ago who wouldn't control their pitbull. It cornered me and my small children up a neighbor's driveway one time. The creepy 9-year-old son sicked him on one of the other neighbors later, and it chewed a hole in his cheek. The animal was impounded, and they moved away soon afterwards.

Keep painting your position as the 'realistic' one. (also its funny that you're making the word 'hope' a bad thing)

Hope is a very bad thing iif that is all you have. It can fairly be described as delusional. Not generally a good state if beubg.

And "my position", for what it is worth, is to deny nuclear arms to other countries. Unfair, I know.

Yes indeed. To cop a quote from Frank Zappa:" The only improvisation that occurs with in Nashville city limits is when someone farts. The only other improvisation that could occur is if somebody adds a little bit extra rosemary to the sauce that they put on a fucking dumpling or something that they give you in one of these nouvelle cuisine restaurants. It's very freeze-dried here. lt's pathetic."

Zappa was talking about LA, though. But the sentiment is perfect.

... Whereas in L.A. you had people freaking out, being as weird as they wanted to be in public. I got to San Francisco and found everybody dressed up in 1890s garb, all pretty specific codified dress. In San Francisco, they had a 'more-rustic-than-thou' approach. It was cute, but it wasn't as evolved as what was going on in L.A.

It's relatively okay that a relatively civilized country like India acquired nukes. It's worrisome that an unstable country like Pakistan has them. An ICBM can only realistically be shot down very shortly after it's launched. Once it reaches re-entry velocity, it's going too fast for anything to intercept it. That's the way I've always understood the explanation to this problem.

what's to know about them other than it is an anti missile defensive platform?...why do you assume I didn't know that?...the PAC-3 has a max altitude of 24 miles...is there a possibility that they can take out an ICBM?...has it ever been tested for that?...is it the entry speed that is the problem?...just tell me what you know

That would be the MIRV. Patriot isn't for that, but MIRVs are way beyond Iran.
The FAS site has a good bit on Patriot. (Patriot did turn out more flexible and effective than expected.)

And I am pretty sure an ICBM is not going to be a delivery system for Iran. They want to be able to deny any connection with such an attack. They will use a proxy like Hezbollah and Hamas. Delivery by shipping container...or even passenger jet.

Patriot could get a warhead in terminal phase perhaps. Last ditch defense.

There is an issue for the Russians. The radar that ABM ground based systems use are very intrusive, very long range and accurate. Essentially it is total 24/7 air surveillance of their airspace if we install near Europe. Alaska sees all of the pacific and NK. Imagine if Russia could see every bird, let alone aircraft over all of America.

uh...I don't get the LGF headline on this one. This email didn't sound particularly angry. Just a point by point response to some questions/criticisms that have seemed to come up. I read it twice just to make sure. With something like this, you're bound to have disagreements, issues, bad people, etc. that you have to sort out. If in fact, this whole tea party thing was running smoothly, and everyone was in lockstep, then in fact it could and would be open to the charge of, "astroturfing," (Pelosi), that states there is some master corporate entity behind everything; and it certainly would have much tighter control of these issues that what we are seeing being played out here. To me this email is evidence of a genuine grassroots movement. Sorry....

re: #680 Stanley Sea

I doubt he'll end up getting that much satisfaction. My brother's flock of laying hens got decimated three times by a neighbor's loose dog. Local magistrate found in my brother's favor all three times. Since my brother is not a farmer, e.g. dependent on the chickens as an income source, the financial restitution was minimal (a few dollars per slain bird). And the dog owner's failure to follow instructions from the magistrate about keeping the dog properly contained were not much consolation to the chickens either.

My brother never demanded the dog to be put down. (Though, if he had caught it in the act I think the dog would have possibly not returned home.) His reasoning was that the dog was being a dog, and that a more proper solution would have been to shoot the owner... /(minor)

Last I checked the dog had been removed from the property (in any case it wasn't there any more.) The last ruling from the magistrate was that the owner had to construct a run for the dog that my brother would get to inspect and approve of. So I guess the owner did not want to deal with the expense of that.

Since Pakistan popped one, the Islamic nuke is a reality. Focusing on Iran is closing the door on the wrong barn. Better to reorganize things for a ME based on MAD.

Problem is, for the Jihadis, MAD is Victory...

re: #771 windsagio

Even if I don't know exactly every reason why, Its pretty clear that I am correct in saying that nobody is going to try to use Patriot missiles to stop ICBM attacks.

Well, in the first place that's not what they're designed for. Not saying they COULD not be used for that purpose, but that it's not their Primary Function.
Kind of like you don't take the bulldozer to the grocery store for the weekly shopping. Or the go-kart. What ever. MIRV would be an issue, but could (presumably) be resolved w/ sufficient Patriots.

But people, really, WTF are we talking here? Even the Norks have 'barely' demo'd 'marginal' *INTERMEDIATE RANGE* missiles, yes? Unless I've SERIOUSLY missed something, Iran has a SCUD type system at best to deliver a single (non-Multiple Independently targeted Re-entry Vehicle) (hey, *I* don't NAME the things) warhead, and that *is* what the Patriots were designed to shoot down, no?
So, no worries, yes? (assuming it WORKS, and the operators are motivated, and not pissed at the Prez, etc, etc....)

I STILL wonder as to the effects of a "neutron bomb" on a cache of 'weapons grade' fissionables...

re: #773 The Sanity Inspector

An ICBM can only realistically be shot down very shortly after it's launched. Once it reaches re-entry velocity, it's going too fast for anything to intercept it. That's the way I've always understood the explanation to this problem.

Well, no, actually - given a long enough lead time (or short enough lead space - say, 6 Nike bases around Detroit - trust me) you CAN shoot UP at warheads coming DOWN. The BIG problem is when the 'payload' splits into 45 separate pieces, and you don't know which 5 are 'hot'... aka MIRV.
So, you have to hit all 45
In such a way as to not scatter 'hot' dust all over your own population
Natch, hitting it before it 'MIRVs' is better
Hitting it in the tube, preventing follow-up shots from the same silo is, of course, ideal - but you have to be FAST to do that!
Bob Heinlein ( I think - may have been Larry Niven) posited using magnetic drives to shoot sections of rebar at launching missiles from orbiting satellites, but we all know how crazy SciFi writers are at predicting the Future.
I mean, who could conceive of a submarine staying submerged for a trip 1/2 the way 'round the world? (USS Nautilus - 1957 vs Capt. Nemo's Nautilus, JVerne, 1869)
See also RHeinlien, and water beds, "Star Trek" 'communicators' vs 'cell phones' - but I digress...

Heinlein thought of dropping rocks ("The Moon is a Harsh Mistress") however it was Pournelle, Possony, and Niven who were on Reagan's advisory team and who proposed smart orbital kinetic weapons. (See Niven and Pournelle novel "Footfall")

Very true. Even common things like liver aren't even sold in grocery stores anymore. People don't buy it, have no idea how to cook it and probably most people under 30 have never even tried it.

I've eaten liver--mostly chopped--I've eaten tongue, I've eaten blood pudding, and I've eaten brain sausage.

Mostly, it left me wanting a nice chicken sandwich. Except for the chopped liver.

re: #205 SixDegrees

I know a guy who used to apply 24K gold leaf to his Thanksgiving turkey. It's perfectly edible.

I don't know that I've ever run across gilt liver, though.

Good Lord. I knew you could eat it, and I've seen pictures of it applied to sweets and dishes in Iran and India, but a THANKSGIVING TURKEY? Our Pilgrim Forefathers (TM) would have had a breakdown.

Dave Weigel has the email:

I'm beginning to have issues with Dave Weigel. He links to Steve Sailer on his blogroll. And RS McCain says:

....Weigel and I are good buddies....

I could give Weigel the benefit of the doubt if he hadn't also been a writer for the American Conservative and the American Spectator magazines. Makes it hard to believe he doesn't know who he's hanging with and writing for and linking to.

If anyone needs to know what's so bad about linking to Steve Sailer, just put on your haz-mat suit and google "Human Biodiversity Group." And no, that's not guilt by association. It is lending whatever credibility he has to the one he links to.
