James O’Keefe’s Race Problem

Uh oh. According to a group called “One People’s Project,” ACORN sting filmmaker James O’Keefe was photographed attending a 2006 white nationalist conference titled “Race and Conservatism.” James O’Keefe’s race problem.

An activist organization that monitors hate groups has produced a photo of O’Keefe at a 2006 conference on “Race and Conservatism” that featured leading white nationalists. The photo, first published Jan. 30 on the Web site of the anti-racism group One People’s Project, shows O’Keefe at the gathering, which was so controversial even the ultra-right Leadership Institute, which employed O’Keefe at the time, withdrew its backing. But O’Keefe and fellow young conservative provocateur Marcus Epstein soldiered on to give anti-Semites, professional racists and proponents of Aryanism an opportunity to share their grievances and plans to make inroads in the GOP.

According to One People’s Project founder Daryle Jenkins, O’Keefe was manning the literature table at the gathering that brought together anti-Semites, professional racists and proponents of Aryanism. OPP covered the event at the time, sending a freelance photographer to document the gathering. Jenkins told me the table was filled with tracts from the white supremacist right, including two pseudo-academic publications that have called blacks and Latinos genetically inferior to whites: American Renaissance and the Occidental Quarterly. The leading speaker was Jared Taylor, founder of the white nationalist group American Renaissance. “We can say for certain that James O’Keefe was at the 2006 meeting with Jared Taylor. He has absolutely no way of denying that,” Jenkins said. O’Keefe’s attorney did not respond to a request for comment on his client’s role in the conference.

UPDATE at 2/3/10 5:00:33 pm:

Dave Weigel confirms the report by One People’s Project.

UPDATE at 2/6/10 11:10:47 am:

An answer to Andrew Breitbart’s demand for a “retraction.”

The more I hear about this guy the less I like him...

2 Silvergirl  Wed, Feb 3, 2010 3:47:33pm

I don't suppose he was there incognito, gathering info against them like when he dressed as a pimp. No, didn't think so. Give it up, James.

3 darthstar  Wed, Feb 3, 2010 3:47:47pm

But he's such a "good kid"...all charges should be dropped...it was just "an innocent mistake"...anyone could do it.

My only regret about O'Keefe is that, if he is found guilty, he won't be sent to a regular prison...rather, he'll get some kind of deal from the prosecutors because they don't want to look like they're being unfair to racist assholes.

4 Gitarzan  Wed, Feb 3, 2010 3:48:09pm

Why doesn't it surprise me that this "intrepid reporter" is turning out to be a low-life racialist piece of s**t?

Well well well.
There's a lot going on with this kid.
It's my personal belief that he was going to do something pretty dirty when he got caught, and now this.
The amount of spin coming from Brietbart is going to come faster and stronger now.

7 keloyd  Wed, Feb 3, 2010 3:49:51pm

James O'Keefe is 25 years old. This 'childish prank' defense is being applied to a grown man the same age as other reporters with a degree and 3 years at a newspaper doing real journalism.

8 Aceofwhat?  Wed, Feb 3, 2010 3:50:44pm

Wasn't he on Hannity recently blaming "lack of journalistic integrity" for his current state of affairs?

Pot calling the kettle black just doesn't do it justice...

9 keloyd  Wed, Feb 3, 2010 3:50:57pm

Then again, being 25 and being able to pass for 17 has some consqeuences in jail. You'd think that would make him twice as law abiding.

10 avanti  Wed, Feb 3, 2010 3:51:43pm

Next we'll hear that O'Keefe would like to smear groups that want to register minority voters, Oh wait.../

I think it's a largely unregulated field. You do not need a license.

I guess this is the flip side of whatever drives young idealistic liberals to close their eyes to the kind of people they rub shoulders with as they chant for freedom, peace, and Hezbollah. The ability to fantasize that racists are allies for conservatives. Or that you're a conservative when you're really a racist. Or whatever.

I wish they'd all quit. Pathetic.

Breitbart Fires Back on O’Keefe ‘Racist’ Charges

David Weigel (WA Independent) states at the bottom of the article that he was at that 2006 event and can verify all.

I’m curious to see what Breitbart goes after — I was at the 2006 event that leads Blumenthal’s story and can confirm all the details about it.

Breitbart is lying, scared that O'Keiffe will bring him down.

But why didn't this shit come out before - when the Acorn tapes were released?

I'm just wondering what poor bastard is going to try and defend these morons. They're either drinking themselves into a coma at the idiocy of their clients refusing to shut up, or they're going to charge double their usual fee just on principle. Heh.

Breitbart is using O'Keefe to build his name. He doesn't care that it's negative attention right now...the important thing to him is that it's attention. Period. He probably figures that as long as he spouts off with the same level of rhetoric as Malkin or Coulter, that he'll keep a following and drive traffic to his website.

O'Keefe is an idiot, and probably thinks this attention is good for him as well. But he'll start singing a new song if he realizes he could actually face real prison time (though there are plenty of people on his side who will see that never happens).

I don't particularly care for the use of "retarded" to describe odious ratf**ks like O'Keefe and Epstein, because I feel it denigrates those who really are mentally retarded/handicapped, but otherwise, I agree with the overall sentiment.

Former Drudge alter ego Andrew Breitbart thinks James von Brunn was a "multiculturalist just like the black studies and the lesbian studies majors on college campuses." How do we know? He left us an enraged voicemail!

Go ahead, listen. Breitbart is angry that anyone would call a neo-Nazi a "right-wing extremist." Here's a sample:

" It's such a fucking slander on people like me. This guy's political philosophy is more akin to the drivel that you hear on a college campuses that delineates us by group and not by individuality... It's deeply offensive that you would use this for political gain."

We were going to draw up a reasoned response, and talk about the roots of right-wing radicalism, nativism, the John Birch Society, etc. But you know what? He's right. James von Brunn is exactly like a lesbian studies major. Well played, Andrew.

We are the folk song army, every one of us cares
We all hate poverty war and injsutice,
Unlike the rest of you squares!

There are innocuous folk-songs
But we regard them with scorn
The folks who sing 'em got no social conscience
Why, they don't care if Jimmy crack corn.

Remember the war against Franco?
That's the kind where each of us belongs.
he may have won all the battles
But we had all the best songs!

Pink nationalists. Better stay out of the sun. Might become wrong shade.

Feh.

Here is a song.

Title: Melting Pot

Artist: Blue Mink

Take a pinch of white man
Wrap it up in black skin
Add a touch of blue blood
And a little bitty-bit of red indian boy

Mm, curly latin kinkies
Mixed with yellow Chinkees
If you lump it all together
Well, you've got a recipe for a get-along scene
Oh, what a beautiful dream
If it could only come true
You know, you know

What we need is a great big melting pot
Big enough to take the world and all it's got
Keep it stirring for a hundred years or more
And turn out coffee-coloured people by the score
Yeah, Lord

Rabbis and the Friars
Bishops and the Gurus
You got the Beatles or the Sun God - it's true
Well, it really doesn't matter
What religion you choose
No no no - ooh

Mick and Lady Faithfull
Lord and Mrs. Graceful
You know the living could be tasteful
Oh, we should all get together in a lovin' machine
I'd better call up the Queen
It's only fair that she knows
You know, you know

What we need is a great big melting pot
Big enough to take the world and all it's got
Keep it stirring for a hundred years or more
And turn out coffee-coloured people by the score

Yeah, what we need
What we need is a great big melting pot
Big enough to take the world and all it's got
Keep it stirring for a hundred years or more
And turn out coffee-coloured people by the score

Yeah, yeah, yeah
What we need is a great big melting pot ...

The word has more applications than just that of the clinical sense. For instance, you could say that a damn retards the flow of a river, and therefore the river is retarded. Not a great example, but there it is.

Well, you know what I mean...the use of "retarded" to bag on someone ain't right.

I'll agree with you, no one is being forced to join the military, I just think that as our current set up stands, we're likely to get more recruits from the lower/lower middle class than from the upper class even taking into account what percent of the American population those groups make up.

It consists of volunteers, and as I said, their social status and financial standing is irrelevant. We no longer have the draft, and those who serve in our armed forces do so by choice.

Which says you miss the point of the lyrics you disparage. Without the draft, only the poor are those who have little choice for employment or education without the benefit of military service. That is why they, by majority, are the ones who enlist and serve.

Breitbart will defend O'Keefe in the same simplistic and disingenuous way he defends Limbaugh: "He didn't say the n-word, so he's not racist." Followed by "How dare you damage someone's reputation with the smear of racism?"

Breitbart's MO is to always play offense--attack all the time. On those rare occasions when you must play defense, just lie quickly and go back to offense.

He had the deer in the headlights look and he could barely put together a complete sentence or coherent thought. Over there he tries to be funny and it's rather strange humor for a man his age. It's something I would expect from a 15 year old. Then when he tried to be serious it's not so far from his humor because he's accidentally comical in his rhetoric (i.e. lesbian studies) and vocalization.

When equate today's moonbat and yesterday's Red, I mean in the sense of being among the hard left, not specifically communist. My (lengthy but amateur) reading of history is you really couldn't be really properly certifiably Far Left in the 40s-70s without being somewhat marxist. Whose voices are silenced? Pete Seeger was banned from TV during the 50's and '60's due to his unrepentant association with the CPUSA. He really did have a problem getting a gig. Who is silencing young talented artists of today? Anybody can make a video and upload it to YouTube.

Oh you mean talent?

It is true Pete Seeger was banned from TV, however during that time there were an abundance of "underground" radio stations where his music, and that of many other folk and progressive rock artists were heard.

Yes, anyone can make a YouTube and hope to be one of the few who get to get heard. The internet is indeed opening up the channels. However, they aren't mainstream venues that give them the exposure to thousands as did radio back then

here we go: ths stages of wingnut denial:

Now the ball is in the court of Breitbart and his apologists (Patterico, we’re looking at you). Having seen this sort of thing play out before, we’ve put together a handy-dandy flow chart for how the ‘James O’Keefe: Total Fucking Racist’ scandal is likely to play out in the wingnutosphere over the coming days:

INITIAL STAGE

PHASE ONE: Ignore, Ignore, Ignore ->

BUYING TIME STAGE

PHASE TWO: Demand Nobody Speak Until ‘All The Facts Are In’ ->
PHASE THREE: Sputterings About ‘Hatchet Job’/'Character Assassination’/'Partisan Agenda’ ->
PHASE FOUR: Float ‘Youthful Indiscretions’ and/or ‘Obama-Rev. Wright=Lefty Hypocrisy’ Angles ->

COUNTER-ATTACK STAGE

PHASE FIVE: Kerners Are Go! Mission: Discredit Blumenthal, OPP ->
PHASE SIX: ‘Real Scandal’ Is Minor Clerical Error In MSNBC’s Follow-up On Blumenthal/OPP Reporting ->
PHASE SEVEN: Declare Victory ->

LONG-TERM STRATEGY STAGE

PHASE EIGHT: Diligently Scrub Wikipedia Of References To Scandal ->
PHASE NINE: Prefer Simple Reboot Of PHASE ONE In Face Of Future Challenges To PHASE SEVEN Dogma, But If Absolutely Necessary Cite PHASE SIX Findings With Patronizing Sneer

They currently peg Breitbart as in Stage 3.

I actually did a voice audition about two years ago for a shock radio show out of Phili... they were looking for people who could call in on multiple subjects and improv a certain position.

My audition subject, which I did not know until the moment of the audition was "don't ask, don't tell" and I was suppose to be a cop who's son was gay and joined the military. My point was I wanted to tell the army about my gay son and I was suppose to convince the host that I was right in doing this.

Not all "reality" and confrontational media is real... there is a lot of well produced and thought out plots behind many of these shows.

I'll agree with you, no one is being forced to join the military, I just think that as our current set up stands, we're likely to get more recruits from the lower/lower middle class than from the upper class even taking into account what percent of the American population those groups make up.

And he still managed to win. After a disastrous counter attack attempt against Kharkov in the spring of 1942, Stalin back off just enough to allow his better generals to make some of their own decisions. Thus men like Zhukov and Konev were able to apply the lesson they'd been taught prior to Stalin's Purge. The resultant rise is the Red Army's skill level was a major cause in the Soviet Union's eventual victory.

I think Patton might have recognized the need to deal with the hedgerows.

What is this "American Idol" and "America's Got Talent" thing I have heard about?

They cater to the Clear Network genre primarily, though they do provide great opportunities to some talented artists. Just like shows like American Bandstand did "back when", though to a lot more. The extraordinary Gladys Knight was the winner of an "American Idol" type contest back then.

Getting airplay on radio during the '60's was not as easy as you think it was. I remember going around with my friends trying to cut a record. We thought we were such hot folk singers! Hello, Pay-O-La? Didn't you see Dreamgirls?

Didn't say it was easy. But it was a lot more possible than it is today. I live in a major metropolitan area and I can search the radio dial to hear the same shit over and over again, the same few songs, the same dearth of artists. I can't find anything like the innovative stations that used to exist.

Don't be fooled.

True. Another factor in 1944 was the newer T-34/85. With it's larger 3 man turret, the command no longer had to load the main gun, and he now was near the radio (which every T-34/85 now had). This freed up Soviet tank commanders to actually guide and command their tanks and thus proved a major increase in the Red Army's Armored Corps fighting abilities. T-34/85 was still not a full match for the Pather, but it was the Sherman's equal. The Korean War, however, proved the T-34/85 was outmatched by the M26 Pershing.

It's 85mm gun fired a better high explosive shell, which all tanks (except those mounting the British 2-Pounder) used more often than armor piercing round. However, the 76mm gun on later Shermans had the same armor penetration qualities when loaded with Hyper Velocity AP ammo. Moreover, the Sherman had better optics. And lastly was the fact that the Sherman was made under much tighter quality control. Even if the T-34 was better designed (which it was), poor manufacturing techniques and unskilled labor meant that war-built T-34s were more liable to various system failures than Shermans. Those built after the war, however, tended to be much higher in quality.

Which system was worse, back then, depended a great deal on what color you were. Don't even try to pretend otherwise.

Well, after Robeson's pro-Soviet antics, Sugar Ray Robinson said he'd punch Robeson in the nose if he chanced to meet him. Robeson definitely held a minority view among American's black population. Those who really advanced the cause of civil rights did so by challenging America to live up to its own ideals, rather than fawning over a monstrous tyrant.

re: #325 Gus 802

The pathology of how these things play out seems to be the same all over the place though in my experience it was a smaller scale and a smaller issue. A few years ago an 'activist' at a rally stood on a podium with a known and unapologetic white nationalist guy smiling and waving a flag behind him. Of course pictures were taken and when the whole thing talked about the guy and his supporters went into idiot denial mode in much the same way. The thing was if he really wanted to he could have claimed, I had know idea and denounced the guy but no, he wouldn't. Then he became uber angry that people would dare contemplate whether he really didn't have a problem with the whole thing because um maybe he either agreed or had some sympathy for the suprememist viewpoint.

Then at another of his rallies about the participants were out in the open, shoulder patch, jacket wearing white nationalists that he stood around and chatted and laughed with. I watched this personally occur and even have photos. Yet afterwards the screaming and whining happened again when this was questioned. "It's liberal slander!" "I being framed!" "I'm not racist at all. I hate racism. I like MLK!!!' and my favorite logic that somehow printing the fact that these folks were there and it sure looked like made more then welcome and participated fully was attacking his personal free speech somehow.

It was just pathetic and also really funny in a dark humor way. You would think that any reasonable person would understand that if you either don't subscribe to a racist viewpoint or do and are in a public position where getting pegged with it would be bad that hanging out with unapologetic and blatantly public racists might not be conducive to your broader public agenda, but no it's EVERYBODY elses fault somehow.

re: #372 Dark_Falcon

The Panther pzkw V was probably the best medium tank of WW II...when it worked! (and the road wheel design was a bitch to work on in the field).

In Avalon Hill games like Panzer Leader, of course, your Panthers always work perfectly, heh!

The British Comet A34 was a nasty piece of work also, with a modified 17 pndr gun that fired first generation APDS rounds. Ouch!

re: #238 jamesfirecat

Would you also agree that to those who can't afford college (the poor) the military might look like a better path for career advancement than for those who can?

I'll agree with you, no one is being forced to join the military, I just think that as our current set up stands, we're likely to get more recruits from the lower/lower middle class than from the upper class even taking into account what percent of the American population those groups make up.

I have no idea how to solve this "problem" if it exists as at the moment I'm only stating a theory, if someone has some data to prove me wrong I'm all ears...

I have an anecdote. The plural of anecdote is data, so maybe you'll indulge me. Kicking around life I've encountered a number of situations involving young men and women who were perfectly well bright enough and from families sufficiently well set that college was a feasible choice.

College isn't for everybody. It isn't even for everybody who's smart enough. Those who choose the military instead of college are the backbone of the military. They rise through the ranks. Sometimes they go to OCS and become officers and college students after all. In other cases they simply master the technical requirements of a very technologically intensive service specialty.

Granting that there are also any number of military who could have succeeded in college, and wanted to go but couldn't for lack of funds, their life chances are hardly ruined by a stint in the military. I see these people too, in college after their spell in the armed forces, and they tend to do pretty well. They have more focus. And thanks to GI benefits, they can concentrate on their studies rather than being distracted by a part time job that sucks up their study hours.

Epstein frequently writes blatantly racist pieces for the white nationalist site VDARE.com, attends racist conferences, and hangs out with many of the leading lights of the so-called "academic" racists, like Jared Taylor, Pat Buchanan, the Robert Taft Club, etc.

The truth is that the wingnut denial machine is passing through the predicted stages, to wit:

PHASE SEVEN: Declare Victory ->

I see Breitbart's Big Dumb Websites are right on schedule, having rapidly passed through to Stage 7, while naturally maintaining a position of intransigent Stage 1 "IGNORE IGNORE IGNORE" w/r/t reality.

There is a later column from David Weigel

About James O’Keefe and That Robert Taft Club Event
Tweet Digg Reddit Facebook StumbleUpon Yahoo! Buzz By David Weigel 2/3/10 8:00 PM

Max Blumenthal’s story about “James O’Keefe’s race problem” leads with an account of an August 30, 2006 after-work event hosted by the Robert Taft Club in Arlington, Va., where John Derbyshire and Kevin Martin joined Jared Taylor — the editor of the white nationalist magazine American Renaissance — to discuss “race and conservatism.” Earlier today, I posted my own account of that event and some context about the culture of see-what-we-can-get-away-with political correctness among young conservatives.

Apparently, the One People’s Project is citing me as a corroborating source on the event — but there are aspects of their story I can’t confirm. While their photo of O’Keefe is definitely from the event, I took it on the photographer’s word that O’Keefe was pictured “as he maintained a literature table near the panelists.” I can personally confirm that he was there, but not that he was manning the table — nor that O’Keefe “planned” the event (as Blumenthal put it) with Marcus Epstein, who was president of the Robert Taft Club.

Here’s how I came across the story: On Jan. 27, the photographer (who goes by the name Isis) from the One People’s Project called to ask me if I had any photos of the event. She remembered seeing me there — it was one of several RTC events I attended, including one where Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) spoke. I explained that I didn’t, but compared my version of the event with hers. She told me that she had photos of the event, but the full photos had been taken by the FBI in a raid. All she had on hand were cropped headshots of people who were at the event.

She emailed me the photo of O’Keefe, and I immediately recognized him from the event. And she told me that, unfortunately, the cropping had removed the table he was sitting at, which included copies of American Renaissance magazine. I remembered the table — curious, I’d grabbed a copy of the magazine, which was, of course, incredibly racist — and took her word that the photo showed O’Keefe sitting there. In the photo, after all, we can see a man walking out the door and O’Keefe’s head is much lower than his. But could I personally confirm that O’Keefe was manning the table at an event I attended four years and several phones/cameras ago? Well, no. I suggested that the story didn’t really have legs if O’Keefe wasn’t selling literature or hadn’t planned the event, as, well, people like me had shown up. It was a debate, after all, with two people — one of them African-American — ganging up on the truly ridiculous Taylor.

Fast forward to today and the Blumenthal article. Blumenthal writes that One People’s Project founder Daryle Jenkins was the source for the “manning the table” claim. But I can’t confirm that, because I don’t remember who was at the table at any particular time. All I know is that O’Keefe was there and he was working for LI at the time.

If OPP is able to retrieve its original photo and clear this up, it should do so.

re: #439 HelloDare

There is a later column from David Weigel

You know what though-- I don't think that specific claim (whether he was manning the lit table or not) is the main issue here. If you're notice, even Charles's comment at the top only notes that he was photographed attending it. Which is incontrovertibly true.
The problem is the pattern of behaviour throughout O'Keefe's career, and the pattern of his associations (such as with Marcus Epstein). It's a safe bet that O'Keefe wasn't there for the same reasons Weigel was, if you just look at what each of them does.
There's much more in that OPP article to be worried about. (Blumenthal too).

Nah, not interested. I'm interested in working locally to effect change nationally. There are PLENTY of us SANE ones out here.
I need not worry about a few sillies.
Just like I don't worry about freaks like Code Pink or the KKK...I ignore them.

About which I said at the time:

Every single newbie who pretended to be unfamiliar with the tools here has turned out to be a sock. Every one.

re: #434 Charles

Another small point about Marcus Epstein, who O'Keefe says can't possibly be a racist because he's part Korean: he was recently sentenced after pleading guilty in a racially motivated assault on a black woman, during which he struck her and screamed the 'N' word at her.

See: [Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]

I don't see where O'Keefe says Epstein can't possibly be a racist. Looks to me like he just said what the guy is. So, the premise of your argument is lacking.

re: #436 Charles

If someone's close associates are white supremacists, it's reasonable to ask why. And if the answer is, "well they can't be because they're part Jewish," that sets off my BS detector.

Possibly yours is calibrated differently.

Wait a minute. I thought we weren't supposed to judge people by their past associates, ie Obama.
I'd rather ask the men. And they have both been asked, and I take their words for it. Both of them.

re: #442 iceweasel

I have no idea what happened or what was on O'Keefe's mind at the time. We can only go by the evidence. And what some people purport as evidence obviously isn't.

As long as updates are being posted, I thought it important to have this last one (as far as can tell it's the last) from Weigel.

You make no sense. I brought up ACORN in a totally different thread. It wasn't discussed in this one, but the same point I made in the other one actually still applies here. People are jumping all over a gathering he attended at college, but ignoring the fact that ACORN, being funded by Our tax dollars is slimey, icky and corrupt.

I'm a troll because I have different thoughts than others ??? wow.

Charles,

Please confirm to the paranoid that I am a newbie here and have NEVER been a part of this blog before? Surely, you can figure that out?

Thank you. Good grief. Aren't blogs places to go where thoughts are debated and discussed?
If I'm not wanted around, kick me off, but be honest about it, please.

If a 'troll' is defined as:

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion

Then I just don't see how I'm a troll. I was staying on topic. And I'm not out to get emotional responses. I'm actually shocked at the emotion/hate directed at me here!

Seriously. Why would I take the time to register for a blog and TRY to get banned?
Who does that?
I just hope to one day get along with someone here, maybe ONE day!?? or not. Heck, keep me on my toes and keep making me think and wonder and check further sources. I like that.
But, maybe a kind soul lurks..lol...and I'll get my kind word...
sheesh
'trying to get banned'...that's amazing.

Yeah, wrenchwench found all the goods; I was watching it all pop up on spy. Looking at this person's prior posts a very clear and drearily familiar pattern emerged.

Oh Carryon... many "try" to get banned. I posted a quick reply on here
that was "troll-like" and probably deserved the full time banned status.
I am a Republican... but I have grown tired of the all-right blogs and despise the all-left blogs. We need a third media source. We need a source that takes the researched news from the left and right and sorts through the nonsense and finds the real truth.

re: #463 joest73

I have never witnessed anyone 'try' to get banned from anywhere. Maybe I live under a rock.
I'm a registered Independent. And I totally agree with you...the far right and the far left are so wack, it's hard to find truth in the middle. I'm a truth seeker. And I get attacked for it constantly. Won't stop me, though.

O'Keefe embodies the meaning of the word "punk."

And he's learned the art of bullying well from Hannity, Beck and Limbaugh.

His mama must be proud!

468 Millicent Islam  Fri, Feb 5, 2010 3:31:29am

More info about O'Keefe, specifically his ties to Ben Wetmore, who has also been frantically spinning he didn't know what O'Keefe was up to:

James O’Keefe and Ben Wetmore Get Married

In 2008, after O’Keefe had left the Leadership Institute, the two men recorded hidden camera video of themselves going to three state offices in Massachusetts, applying for marriage licenses, openly admitting that they were straight men who wanted to get married to take advantage of the benefits.

"Mentor" to alleged phone tamperers blogged about dirty tricks with phones
(these dirty tricks don't involve phone tampering, though, be advised)
I really can't do better than to quote digby here on that little gay marriage video stunt:

I'm not sure what this was trying to prove, but there's little doubt that these guys are jackasses of the highest order. They are just mean little pranksters seeking to entrap low level clerks into validating bigots' worst imaginations. The fact that the MSM never did any real investigations of these little creeps before now and gave them credibility instead, is a sad comment on journalism.

469 Millicent Islam  Fri, Feb 5, 2010 3:40:42am

Marcy Wheeler has a pretty excellent rundown of O'Keefe's latest 'explanation' and lies here.
Short version is that O'Keefe's latest claims about what he was doing don't seem to track the facts (unsurprisingly).

You are wrong about the Leadership Institute (among other things). An organization that has a "Wednesday Wakeup Club Breakfast" with the editor of Human Events is ultra-right, and is not non-partisan, except in that they cannot endorse candidates and retain their tax status.
