Blacks and Jews rare at the Tea Party.....
Getting Religion at the Tea Party Convention
For the most part, no big surprises: The folks are sociable, middle-aged, white (I think I counted two black adults in the whole room — though, interestingly, both of them ended up on the podium, giving speeches) and mad as hell that Barack Obama is conspiring with the United Nations to turn America into a socialist province of a One World State.
I think the one thing that really did surprise me was the high level of explicitly Christian social conservatism on display here.
.....a middle-aged female delegate with a twang stood up and said, during the Q&A, “All the media types are asking us why we’re here. Here’s what I say. We’re all here for a little R&R — revival and revolt. If you’re not a Christian, and a person of faith, you just can’t understand what we’re doing!!” She got a standing ovation.
.....
But an hour later, the lunch speaker was Roy Moore: the “10 Commandments Judge” who was fired from his position as Alabama Chief Justice when he refused to remove a 5,000-pound 10-commandments sculpture from his court building. (He’s now running for Alabama Governor — his volunteers are a big presence here.) Anyway, he gave a fire-and-brimstone speech that peeled the paint off the walls. He sounded, at times, entirely indistinguishable from an Evangelist at Sunday service, listing off the many reasons America is going to hell (militant gay activists, naturally, figured prominently). And the guy brought the house down.During his whole speech, I kept thinking to myself: And to think that this guy used to be mandated by the state of Alabama to pass judgment on non-Christians, gays, and all the other heathen. Tea Party types tend to be strongly pro-Israel. But that aside, it’s not a particularly familiar place for a nice Jewish boy from Canada.
Shocka!

It's a populist movement and all they need are talking points and conspiracy theories. There's no shortage of either.

I love the way Sarah's Sycophants (notably Beck) address her as "Governor" when she's memorized enough answer to dare go on a live show.
It's like that time Ted Koppel had Atty Gen. Janet Reno on and called her "General".
Actually, no: Koppel was worse. He has wit enough to know better.

re: #74 Cato the Elder
Just checked it out. Panting. Can't wait.
Me and the blow-up doll. And the blow-up doll sittin' right by me. Difference? The second knows when to open her mouth and when to shut it.
As as side note, I see the Teabaggers had a forum today on "precinct organizing best practices". Ya think they can do it without stealing from Alinsky?
Eh? Why would they bother? Devil knows the best tunes, and all of that.

Mentions the global warming conspiracy
Says something about "true Americans"
Screws up historical facts

that's all an elaborate lie
I can attest to that. He invited me to his house, but the GPS took me to a nuclear waste dump.

Damn, but...they would hold the teabagger convo in Nashville, wouldn't they.
Poor little Nashville - the most libruhl place in Tennessee. But you'd never know it from the constant influx/outflow of fascists nationwide.
A little extra income in hard times.

No, it's not. Knoxville is the most liberal city in Tennessee.
Memphis by far. They sent Steve Cohen to congress. Nashville is represented by Blue Dog Jim Cooper and I forget who for Knoxville.

Pretty simple lie, actually. Anyway, thanks for coming clean. Can I call you "Nashville Steve" now?

No, you can't. He lives on the edge of a nuclear waste dump, in a van down by the river. In New Mexico.
That's as far as I got before his replicants kidnapped me and put me on the northern route. Woke up the next morning in Wall, SD.

In the frigging opening prayer, Obama is called "our sitting president." Needlessly weird. 32 minutes ago

How about applying plaster molding and walls?
126 | albusteve Sat, Feb 6, 2010 5:48:02pm |
it's true I invited Cato to buy me tacos but he couldn't find Albuquerque on his Rand and McNally....and he paid like $12 bucks for that atlas

Wamp.
Republican.
I'd have to look at a map of the districts, but Zack Wamp representing Knoxville does not make a good case for Knoxville being the most liberal city in the state. In general the state gets more conservative as you head east. West TN is more like Arkansas and East TN is more like South Carolina.

We use drywall. (Missed the Chinese stuff, fortunately.) Good volunteers can do it slowly, if they have an SOB for quality control.

re: #128 Decatur Deb
My old house in the ghetto had plaster walls. We just kept painting over with thicker paint, hoping it would hold.

it's not a van, dumbass, it's a Winnebago...and you didn't wake up in Wall, you woke up in Leonard, Iowa at the nut farm....overdosed on yourself

I'm in Nashville too btw. My gf works in the Barnes and Noble in the mall next door to where the convention is being held. I'm wondering if she'll have any stories when she gets off tonight,.

re: #14 Killgore Trout
A couple of idiots. One claiming that Marcus Epstein isn't a racist.
Killgore Trout -
Killgore - this is LGF - Race is about as important as the color of the fur on your Dog here. Anyone believing differently is wasting my time and yours.
Last I looked the "Common Era" Calendar read 2010 - not 1910.
