McCain Primary Opponent Hayworth: a Birther with a Twist

Politics • Views: 5,109

John McCain’s Republican opponent for his Arizona Senate seat, former right wing talk radio host J. D. Hayworth, has a new twist on the Birther theme — he says he’s concerned about President Obama’s citizenship because it’s an issue of possible identity theft.

Youtube Video

In 2006, J. D. Hayworth made it into the “dishonorable mentions” section of a list of the 25 ‘most corrupt’ members of Congress.

“Beyond DeLay: The 20 Most Corrupt Members of Congress (and five to watch)” is the second annual report from the non-profit legal watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). An associated website, Beyond DeLay, offers both summary and detailed versions of CREW’s analysis of the transgressions of all 25.

A majority of those listed are Republicans, several of whom have been linked to the spreading Jack Abramoff and “Duke” Cunningham scandals. As well as those cited as being under investigation, the Top 20 includes such high-profile names as Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) and Representatives Roy Blunt (R-MO), John Doolittle (R-CA), Tom Feeney (R-FL), Katherine Harris (R-FL), Richard Pombo (R-CA), Pete Sessions (R-TX), John Sweeney (R-NY), and Curt Weldon (R-PA). Representatives Chris Cannon (R-UT) and J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) are among the dishonorable mentions.

A note to all candidates,

Knock off the shit slinging and questions of "concern" about your opponent. It makes you sound like a whiny bitch. Tell me the points of legislastion which concern you and give points on how you would improve them and your plans, dont simply repeat your opponent is *wrong*. Give us an actual arguement of why he is wrong and how you would do it right. Until then, you can fuck right off since you wont be getting my time, money or support in the meantime.

Listening now...JD's getting interviewed, claiming McCain is only going against the Democrats because he's worried about his job. Calling him the "Zig-zag express"...and other crap.

It's too bad there isn't a viable Democrat to run against whoever wins this primary. Neither guy will be good for Arizona.

OT:

Here's a good piece about a new lobbying group opposing financial regulations:

[Link: www.prwatch.org...]

The organization was created by a North Carolina Republican operative named William L. "Bill" Peaslee, and it is represented by attorney James Bopp, Jr., who has sued the FEC saying the group shouldn't have to file any spending reports with the government. Bopp is the same person who drafted the Republican National Committee's "Purity Resolution," which threatens to cut off funding for any Republican who fails to support a list of far-right conservative values and beliefs. CTP is running its ads in Arkansas, Connecticut, Colorado, Illinois, Montana, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin. The ads are aimed at confusing people by portraying the financial reform bill as a "new $4 trillion bailout for banks" -- language that was suggested by discredited GOP pollster and wordsmith Frank Luntz, who recently urged Republicans to stoke opposition to the consumer-friendly legislation by portraying it as filled with bank bailouts, lobbyist loopholes and additional layers of complicated government bureaucracy.

Expect to see the GOP to start using this language more and more.

Yay for dishonesty and lack of transparency.

You're not looking hard enough. They're still out there - and in some cases, still running for office. Just this morning Jeff Boss, who I've written about in re: the 2009 NJ governor's election, was out soliciting support in Hoboken for his run for Congress. He thinks that the feds were in on the 9/11 attacks, plotting and carrying them out. He last ran in the Democrat primary for governor and is running on the D ticket for the NJ-13 Congressional district.

He's an absolute crank, but the Democratic party hasn't driven him from the ticket.

I don't see things in terms of 'left' and 'right', and I don't think there's a pendulum. I don't think that Supreme court ruling favors the 'right'-- if things had gone differently in the US and the unions were far more powerful than they are, it'd be a boon to the 'left'.

But I do think that the supreme court ruling opens the door to bad things, and I'm glad there's support for more campaign finance reform and for financial reform. I am saddened that there is going to be an enormous fight over financial reform even though it is abso-obvious-fucking-lutely necessary.

re: #48 Obdicut

Michael Krasny had a great discussion on the SCOTUS decision on Forum yesterday morning. The real danger with the corporate restrictions lifted isn't the money they'll spend...they don't have to spend a dime. It's the control they'll have over votes in congress by simply threatening to dump millions of dollars into campaigns to defeat representatives and senators.

"Vote for this tax cut or we'll spend five million dollars getting you voted out of office." - vote secured, and it didn't cost them a dime.

I'll take a look at that article, thank you.

I don't think anyone was under the impression that what US politics needed was more money being spent by lobbyists and more influence from special interests.

I am not a constitutional scholar, so I am not fit to analyze the constitutionality of it. I do think that the consequences may be quite bad for US politics, and that we need to find some way of limiting lobbyists influences. I'd like, as a very first step, full sunshine on lobbyists. We're partway there with great places like sourcewatch, but we need more publicity and more disclosure.

I don't know. She fell out of favor. That pic, taken with Jeb, was probably taken when she was the Sec of State. You remember, she stopped the recount in Florida. She was the star of the Right then. She went on to run for the Senate (or the Congress, I can't recall which, I believe she's been both) and failed miserably. Generally what pisses me off, makes the Right pretty happy, so it's confusing.

If Harris wanted to stay in the House, she'd still be in the House. But she tried to rise above her station and run for Senate. The Republicans didn't evict her.

She gave a religious diatribe to a group of Baptists that the country should be run under Christian doctrine. Then her election staff up and quit on her. Don't know if those are tied together. Just seems these are things that have helped other Republicans so I don't know.

I distinctly remember sitting with a piece of cold, rubbery liver until 10:00p. And yes, I finally ate the disgusting thing.

I've told this story, but years later, my nephew was sitting at the table when my mother stuck all his broccoli in his mashed potatoes, called them Trees on the Mountain and he gobbled it up. I turned to her and said, "Where is mother and what have you done with her!!" She laughed and said, "Well excuse me for growing!"

I hate it when she's right and she's always right (except for the liver).

Damn...there was a blue-light special in Arkansas last night.

But there was one element that Palin had to contend with on Tuesday that she rarely (if ever) did on the campaign trail: empty seats. Though the Arkansas Republican Party sold differently priced upper-level and lower-level tickets to the event at the 18,000-seat Verizon Arena, less than half of the seats in the lower bowl were occupied, and the entire upper level was shrouded by black drapes.

In the hours before the Palin event began, the Arkansas GOP was advertising on its web site a heavily discounted "$20 ticket special." The dining tables that had been set up on arena’s floor, however, were full with donors who had contributed $175.

Of course the expensive tables were all bought up by wealthy corporations and Republican donors paying for multiple tables.
One of my friends was invited to take a ticket from a close friend who bought several tables.
Her response "I would not walk across the street to hear Palin speak even if she was shitting golden eggs at the same time."

Yeah, lots o' Palin hate there.

I was watching the local news last night and there were the folks who have been taken in by The Grifter saying "she's just like us" and "I know I could walk up and just talk to her" and "just one of the common folks".

Oh and here is the response from the head of the Republican Party in Arkansas in Palin quitting:
[Link: arkansasnews.com...]

"Earlier Tuesday, Gabe Holmstrom, a spokesman for the state Democratic Party, dismissed Palin as “a political entertainer.”

“Governing is tough work, and she left governing to go be in the spotlight and make money,” Holmstrom said.

Webb said he believes Palin “has a greater calling than serving the people of Alaska: She has a call to serve the people of the nation, and she’s serving it well.”

Webb added, “I would remind Gabe that Gov. Clinton did resign as governor of Arkansas (after being elected president). He may have forgotten that.”

Actually I do that all the time. Smoker made out of 2 big clay flower pots, put bottom one up on two bricks, put electric hot plate in the bottom, run cord out the hold. Put cake pan on top of hot plate with soaked wood chips, put in round replacement grill, flip other flower pot over and use it as a lid. Replacement grill thermometer goes in the top and viola!

For the shoulder I brine it over night in a mix of water, molasses and pickling salt. Dry it off, put on the dry rub and into the smoker. Four hours under smoke, changing chips every hour then into the oven for another four hours and you are done.

I stole all this from Alton Brown so here is the link to his recipe:

That only scratches the surface.

He is unrepentant about having his wife as the only employee of his Political Action Committee named "Team PAC". It is a PAC that took in over $100k in Abramoff money as well as 100s of thousands form Tribes that didn't want Casino competition, which JD Hayworth obligingly saw to as part of Tom DeLay's "leadership" team.

But heh - JD knows a good gig when he sees it.

He sees Palin getting paid $75,000 as an honorarium to promote herself to Arkansas Paleocons by whining about how she is a victim while calling for more "individual responsibility" in our culture.

As if on queue, Hayworth moaned to reporters today that he is a victim of John McCain's "scorched earth" tactics. Don't let that "individual responsibility" thing get in the way of shaking down those gullible Values Voters, JD!

169 hokiepride  Wed, Feb 17, 2010 3:43:02pm

JD Hayworth is no conservative. He is your typical cynical beltway pol, who mouths conservative principles to get elected and after he is in, indulges in the same "nose in the trough" like everyone else. McCain is far more honorable. I hope McCain wins, although he too can be pretty annoying sometimes.
