Yes, but I hope no one here has invested in Beck's Credibility. That's been completely leveraged and I think the bubble will be bursting shortly.

Beck played this up for all it was worth, and found out it was worth nothing to him. What's worst, the man behind this has spent a week tap dancing and changing his story, a bit of fact that Glenn, in an fit of hypomanic denial, couldn't even see.

It a case of someone is is a fucking lier dealing with someone who is fucking stupid.

Meanwhile, the main headline in today's USA Today says, "Slowly, the limits on pot are fading." Below that is a pic showing a professor at Ganja U. in California lighting up after class.

Is there something wrong with Beck's amygdalae? Can't he smell the smoke from the campfires of the laid-back barbarians before the gates?

If this continues, the country will be full of nothing but absurdly mellow people walking around in a happy daze, saying things like "peace out!" and "pass me the bong" and "look at the colors" or even "dude, I'm so stoked!"

And there will be no one left to defend us from our Prog Overlords.

Biden slams Jerusalem housing plan

JERUSALEM - U.S. Vice President Joe Biden condemned a new Israeli plan to build hundreds of homes in disputed east Jerusalem on Tuesday, casting a cloud over a high-profile visit that had been aimed at repairing ties with the Jewish state and kickstarting Mideast peace talks.

Israel's Interior Ministry said late Tuesday that it had approved construction of 1,600 new apartments, an embarrassing setback for Biden after a day of warm meetings with top Israeli officials.

Although ministry officials said the announcement was procedural and unconnected to the visit, a top aide to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was blindsided and tried to contain the damage at a late-night dinner with Biden.

re: #84 Killgore Trout

Of course not. The story is bullshit. However, there are occasional fishing bans for environmental reasons to save endangered species. There was a west coast salmon ban a few years ago.. There's talk of a blue fin tuna ban sometime soon. It's nothing new. They just knew if they made it sounds scary they'd get a lot of links.

Hudson river sturgeon were banned for contamination levels--I think it's been slowly lifted.

Eeek! Looked up Connie Hair:

The Nativists
Around the country, an anti-immigration movement is spreading like wildfire. An array of activists is fanning the flames.

CONNIE HAIR
AGE: 48
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA.

Last April's Minuteman Project -- a paramilitary vigilante effort to seal off the Arizona border -- may not have accomplished much in terms of stopping illegal immigration. But it was a remarkable media success, sparking upbeat coverage and the creation of some 40 similar groups in ensuing months. It soon became apparent the project had metastasized from the one-man operation started by Chris Simcox as the Tombstone Militia into a movement that was sweeping the nation.

With that -- and with the $50 application fees that thousands of people began sending in to join his Minuteman Civil Defense Corps -- Simcox knew it was time to professionalize. Flush with cash, Simcox hired the exceedingly professional Connie Hair as the Minutemen's official media spokesman.

It was Hair who got Simcox onto Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes" in August, banking on her long friendship with Sean Hannity. It paid off -- Hannity did several broadcasts direct from the Texas border, where he strolled along the Rio Grande side by side with Simcox and tossed stones into Mexico. She also managed to regularly serve up worrying sound bites like this one: "If you're from the Middle East, it only makes sense you might be in a Middle Eastern terror cell."

...

Doh!

Hmmm, is your ignorance honest or deliberate?:

The complaint alleges that Miles and Clancy submitted multiple voter registration applications for the same individuals, and also were part of a scheme in which they and other SRDs registered each other to vote multiple times in order to meet voter registration quotas imposed by ACORN.

They were paid by Acorn to register eligible voters, they knowingly defrauded Acorn.

Well David Drake is a Vietnam vet who is also an historian who writes science fiction.

Weber and he had a notion of writing series that are age of sail in space.

Honor Harrington is much more Horatio Hornblower and Drake is much more Master and Commander.

Also Drake writes with a grit that only comes from being a veteran and his plots are mostly inspired by classical history.

The series is absolutely space opera, but the very best of space opera.

A queen's Gambit is a wide open game..Anything can happen.. You must move smartly.. One of the lessons of Chess that Guys egos can't get around is that sometimes the best move is to retreat..People that attack on the board only know advancement of the pieces.. What ever..If you just attack it's like Ali playing rope-a-dope..You've got to be kidding me... You don't thing I was reading Nimzovich over defensive therom when I was in Catholic school?

New book: Defector tells of shopping in Europe for North Korea dictators

Seoul, South Korea – Firsthand exposés about the personal lives of North Korea’s leaders can put the lives of their authors at risk, even if they are far away. The latest tell-all, published in Austria by two journalists to whom former Army Col. Kim Jong-ryul told his story, is a case in point.

By his own account, Mr. Kim – who describes the dozens of villas and beautiful furnishings included in the lavish lifestyles of Kim Il-sung and his son Kim Jong-il – says he realizes the danger.

“Maybe I’ll be shot, killed in the next few days,” Kim Jong-ryul, who escaped North Korea in 1994 and now lives at a secret address, told reporters in Vienna after the book came out. At least, "now I can die with a clear conscience," he said. But “without [publishing] this book, I didn’t want to die.”

The book adds to a growing body of evidence of the selfishness of the North's Kim Il-sung, who ignored the suffering of his people while focusing on his own comfort and safety. An engineer, Kim Jong-ryul said he was asked to design a special filtration system for the shelter in which Kim Il-sung and his family could hide in order to survive a nuclear attack.

Here comes the anti immigration talking points:

New people in America today with a lot of babies, ’cause they coming from Mexico having a bunch of babies. And our tax dollars is taking care of them babies, ’cause the mothers are illegal. So to me, we need to speak out about letting them know they’re the new welfare queens in America.

CALLER 2: That was well said brother!

MACDONALD: We will make a note of that. Thank you very much. I appreciate that.

CALLER 3: One piece of information would be, they aren’t babies, they’re dependents. Don’t use babies. It’s emotional to them. They have dependents. We have babies.

Let's make them the new welfare queens

You’ve heard about the controversies within the bill, the process about the bill, one or the other. But I don’t know if you have heard that it is legislation for the future, not just about health care for America, but about a healthier America, where preventive care is not something that you have to pay a deductible for or out of pocket. Prevention, prevention, prevention—it’s about diet, not diabetes. It’s going to be very, very exciting. But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.

Ted Nugent tells students: 'Global warming is a fraud. Watch Glenn Beck'

Musician Ted Nugent, during a visit to his granddaughter's Catholic school, told the children to stay away from drugs, alcohol and tobacco. At the end of his motivational speech, a student asked about global warming.

"Global warming is a fraud. Watch Glenn Beck," said Nugent, 61, Monday in Royal Oak, Mich., referring to the conservative Fox-TV show host, according to a story in The Oakland Press.

...But what about Beck? Nugent might be disappointed to know that in a recent interview with USA Weekend, Beck sounded eco-friendly and suggested global warming is real...

Still looking...here's a quote from Snopes:

In 1990 he told the Detroit Free Press newspaper:
"He claims that 30 days before his draft board physical, he disavowed personal hygiene. The last ten days he ingested nothing but junk food and Pepsi, and with a week to go until the physical, he stopped using the bathroom altogether. When the big day came, he had been living in excrement-caked and urine-stained pants. Always the hero, however, Nugent reassured the Free Press, “But if I would have gone over there, I’d have been killed, or I’d have killed all the Hippies in the foxholes. I would have killed everybody.”"

The Jerusalem Post is not impressed with Obama's foreign policy.

The Region: Look out!

The stories of the US engagement with Syria and the sanctions issue regarding Iran’s nuclear program are fascinating. Each day there’s some new development showing how the Obama administration is acting like a deer standing in the middle of a busy highway admiring the pretty headlights of the automobiles.

It’s like watching the monster sneak up behind someone. Even though you know he won’t turn around, you can’t help but watch in fascinated horror and yell: “Look out!” But he pays no attention.

Briefly, the Syrian government keeps punching the US in the face as Washington ignores it.

On March 1, a new record was set. The place: State Department daily press conference; the star, spokesman Philip J. Crowley. A reporter asks how theadministration views the fact that the moment a US delegation left after urging Syrian President Bashar Assad to move away from Iran and stop supporting Hizbullah, Syria’s dictator invited Iran’s dictator along with Hizbullah’s leader to visit.

In other words, the exact opposite of what the US requested. Is the government annoyed? Does it want to express some anger or issue a threat?

All fiction, since Nugent–a Draft Dodger–divorced his wife, used his rock star money to gain sole custody of the kids, lived with a teen groupie who raised the kids (he was too busy touring), cheated on his second wife, Shemane, and had a kid outside of wedlock with Karen Gutowski of New Hampshire, with whom he fought against paying child support for years.

**** UPDATE, 02/17/09: That’s in addition to the two other kids Ted Nugent had out of wedlock with two other different women by the time he turned 21. That’s right. Ted Nugent fathered SEVEN kids with FIVE different women, to which only two of whom he was married. ****

Todd Palin has surprising tie to Venezuela-owned oil company

As a vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin condemned Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez as a "dictator" and called for "energy independence ... to allow us to be less and less reliant on someone like Hugo Chavez."

Venezuela, one of the top suppliers of oil to the United States, "wanted to use energy sources as a weapon" under Chavez, she said.

But Palin's anti-Venezuela sentiments do not appear to extend to her husband, whose snowmobile racing team was sponsored by a division of Citgo, the retail arm of Venezuela's state-owned oil and gas company.

Todd Palin's Iron Dog snowmobile team competed this year under a sponsorship from Mystik Lubricants, which was founded in Texas in 1922 but now resides under the Citgo corporate banner.

"Mystik Lubricants is a proud sponsor of Scott Davis and Todd Palin, competitors in the 2010 Iron Dog," the company said on its site. "Mystik is ... a sponsor of Team #22 Scott Davis and Todd Palin -- past Iron Dog Champions. Davis Racing team which includes Scott Davis, Todd Palin, Regina Daniels, Cory Davis and Carly Davis accepted Mystik Lubricants' sponsorship offer."

I don't find this a big deal, personally, I just think the name Mystik Lubrcants is funny.

Woman launches $2.2 million lawsuit for "devastating" mastectomy

TORONTO — A Leamington, Ont., woman, who had an unnecessary mastectomy last fall, has launched a $2.2 million lawsuit against the surgeon who removed her breast, the pathologist who analyzed her biopsy and two hospitals in the Windsor, Ont.-area.

Laurie Johnston, who never had breast cancer, is suing surgeon Dr. Barbara Heartwell, pathologist Dr. Olive Williams, Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital and Leamington District Memorial Hospital.

At a news conference in Toronto Wednesday, Johnston said she believed she was in the hands of a good surgeon who would help her fight breast cancer, a disease that also struck her mother and sister.

Instead, Johnston says she walked out of Heartwell's office a "disfigured" and forever-changed woman — for no reason.

Johnston underwent radical surgery last fall in which Heartwell removed her left breast and six lymph nodes, only to find out she never had cancer.

Johnston is seeking $1 million in general and special damages and another $1 million in punitive and aggravated damages. Her daughters, aged 22 and 15, and her sister are seeking another $200,000 in damages under the Family Law Act.

I allow over aggressive player to throw their best shot on the board..Defend it *yawn* and then counter punch with clean diagonal Attack lines...

So for you I would get passive aggressive and play King's Indian :)

Well Darth, you got my curiosity going on Nugent. I accidentally landed on Debbie Schussel's site (don't think she's respected, not sure) but here's what she wrote:

Wow.

Hi, Dark_Falcon. Wishing you much success at work this week!

Thank's I'm going to need it. My boss warned me that people will be losing their jobs and I might be one of those people. I'm going to be looking for work, at least online, this month. Hopefully, I don't lose my job, but it's going to be tough.

Hang in there man, you are good peeps. Keep a positive attitude - even if things turn shitty at work. Managers like positive people.

I know. At the very least, he told me what might happen and suggested I look. He does not want to fire me, and won't do so without a reason. I need to make sure my sales this month give him a reason to keep me and that I don't screw up in the meantime. It's going to be tough, but I think I can hang on till I at least start to line up opportunities.

haha my specialized field is game development. I used to be the guy who did the art FOR the D&D books :D Now I do the art for video games.

I know some gamers in McJobs, but that's generally because they moonlight as other things that help pay the bills.

I (unfortunately) know some gamers and Magic players who work McJobs (sometimes literally) and have been fired from them as well. They're almost stereotypical slacker types. Since I don't pry in personal lives I have no idea what these guys are really doing for a living, and whether they have any goals beyond the next game and purchased pack of Magic cards.

I'll look into it, but I won't take a Census job unless I lose my current one. They aren't permanent, so I can't switch while I have a full-time job.

Don't rule out health care! Lots of entry level caregiver jobs that don't require experience in the field, and don't have any of the pressure associated with sales.

I know those people, they tend not to be the gamers I hang with. My current gamer group includes a drunken chef who's traveled to Korea and Japan, and can barbecue so good he can stop time, a local (VERY LOCAL) politician, my silly ass, a nursing student who's worked in the psych field for 10 years, and Windsagio from here.

Magic players are really their own thing, I have no interest in CCGs. :D

caregiver jobs, anything regarding working with people with developmental disabilities, home care, group homes, that sort of thing. They can be challenging jobs, but they're challenging in a social way and not challenging in a productivity sort of way.

My RPG group is all engineers and IT folk. Otherwise, I'm usually board gaming on weekends within a very large and loose group of people of various ages and employment.

Honestly, I miss college days and gaming like that, but these days it is really hard to find anyone who would not consider me crazy for wanting to start up a campaign. I play DAO and Mass effect to get my fix for such things.

The RPG group is primarily from folk I knew from college (or their friends).

The local game stores I frequent are very supportive. I was playing in an RPG at one for a while (once per month) and I knew none of the players or GM previous to that. (Which can be a mixed bag given the personalities one encounters.) As for the board gaming there are regional groups that sponsor open board gaming a few weekends a month. One has a mall's community room two Saturdays a month and there's often 30-50 people there playing a wide variety of games, including some who are designers doing playtesting.

So there might be something similar you could find in your area.

Where do you live. If SciFi board games work for you, I might be able to find you a group.

re: #20 Charles

By the way, I now have confirmed that the zero posting at Richard Metzger's site with the name "Daedalus" is Rodan from the stalker blog, aka Rick Martinez.

[Link: www.dangerousminds.net...]

"Rodan" from Michael Nesmith's brilliant video Elephant Parts.
(The YouTube poster misspelled Rodan as Rodanne. The bit was a spoof on Nesmith's song "Joanne," which was about his wife.)

I'm surprised he has not been renamed "Glenn Drek"
