Comedy Central is sure getting some mileage out of Glenn Beck’s increasingly loony shows. Let’s face it — Beck is a comedy goldmine. We should get on our knees and give thanks to Fox News for bringing him into our living rooms, America.

Here’s Jon Stewart piling on.

Given all the free publicity they're receiving, I'd say it's Fox that's probably giving thanks to Comedy Central.

I knew Bert was a Nazi, just knew it. Bastard wouldn't allow Ernie to eat cookies in band. You know that the leads to.

Bert is clearly an abusive, controlling partner.
I hope Ernie can break free...

The American Medical Association is officially on board with this health care reform bill.

"By extending health coverage to the vast majority of the uninsured, improving competition and choice in the insurance marketplace, promoting prevention and wellness, reducing administrative burdens, and promoting clinical comparative effectiveness research, this bill will help patients and their physicians," said AMA President Dr. J. James Rohack.

Now they need to get on board with more med school slots and allowing nurse practitioners and physician assistants to provide more general care.

apparently, the mass murder of people at Srebrenica was caused by openly gay dutch soldiers.

His question got answered, and I hope he calls the Medicaid office. If he doesn't want to, that's his free choice.

I am not my Walter's keeper.

Here's the other Gawande article I always post about health care, just for the hell of it.

15 minutes of awesomeness. I like how be backtracked Beck's logic to show that by following his own assumptions the people promoting faith in government are really just agents of the Christian Taliban. Kooky logic goes both ways, Glenn!

re: #7 SpaceJesus

I saw that. That's fucking insane that they're trying to use 'gay panic' as a defense for a massacre.

What a poltroon.

The interesting thing about the AMA is that less than 20 percent of physicians are members, mainly because of disagreements with the association's positions.

I can agree with that. I see a lot more duties and obligations given to nurse practitioners and physician assistants in Europe and other counties. Even the pharmacist has much more to do with giving instructions and advice about medical issues.

As an MD and a non-member of the AMA, I would suggest that many who don't belong do so because of the AMA's previous antediluvian stances. Most of the membership belongs to the old white male demographic, many of whom agreed with Reagan that Medicare would destroy freedom in America.

Nope not at all. I wonder what General Sheehan thinks of the fact that Israel allows openly gay people to serve in its military. Certainly hasn't made their military weaker. As Goldwater once said, gay or straight, only thing that matters is you shoot straight. I'd much rather have someone with military training that happens to be gay serve in the military than a straight guy like me who would be fubared immediately.

23 Expand Your Ground  Fri, Mar 19, 2010 11:51:14am

The writers at Comedy Central almost have it too easy lately. they just have to quote what these people are spouting and have John Stweart make a face.

Yes, historically, everywhere gay Dutch soldiers go, massacres of civilians follow. I think. Given the lack of historical data on exactly which Dutch soldiers were gay, it can be hard to tell. But if there's a civilian massacre, and the Dutch were nearby with troops, it's pretty clear that some of them were gay.

Openly gay Dutch anti-aircraft gunners allowed the Luftwaffe to firebomb Rotterdam in 1940...

Charles,

You probably know this but those videos don't display outside the US. Doesn't matter, Glenn Beck isn't a global issue, but the frequency of encountering unwelcoming bits of homepage (like this) is on the increase.

This is just fwiw, not a criticism, since you are blogging more about US domestic politics and no doubt doing good work in the process and I can dig it.

Unfortunately, the choice on whether to make certain content available outside the US is up to the copyright holders (in the case of The Colbert Report and The Daily Show, the copyrights belong ti Comedy Central and it parent company, Viacom). Sure, Charles could post YouTube clips of the same material, but Viacom could have them yanked at any time under the DMCA, so he posts stable links from their source.

Exactly. You would think that skills and training would outweigh sexual orientation. I guess some folks just can't see things that way.

In 2007, when he turned down an offer to oversee the American efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan, he told The Washington Post, "Rather than go over there, develop an ulcer and eventually leave, I said, 'No, thanks.'"

Pick your favorite snark:
Well, you can't fault him for his devotion to country & duty.

or:
I can understand his reluctance. Some of our soldiers have gone over there and gotten two, sometimes even three ulcers.

When I say that your comedy central videos are unavailable for us to watch :'(
Someone should youtubize them... freedom over corporate greed, comedy central, hah! Comedy central greedy american corporation and silly laws.
This is what I think at least.

31 shai_au  Fri, Mar 19, 2010 6:24:26pm

Sorry, but that wasn't nearly as funny as the one with Nazis plotting to take control of Glenn Beck's body.
It went on for a bit long, too. But I wholeheartedly support taking the mickey out of Beck in general!

32 stevemcg  Fri, Mar 19, 2010 7:36:54pm

I was impressed by the length of the segment. There was one continuity glich because there is a picture of Charlie Chaplin on the right side of the blackboard that Stewart did not hang up. I felt the strongest Daily Show segment recently was the one about the Texas Board of Education voting to take a Central American assasination victim out of the curriculum. First was the audience's reaction to the vote, and the second was when Steart said that for the second time, he has been disappeared by the right wong.
