X-Men #35, Spider-Man Crossover (August 1967)

Issue #35 of The X-Men, published in August 1967, featured Spider-Man battling the mutant superhero team when they mistake him for a bad guy. Basically, Spidey kicks all of their asses and they end up apologizing to him.

The Lizard Collection’s copy of this book is in fantastic shape; better than the one pictured on this page at the Marvel Comics Database.

For those interested, Marvel has almost all of their old comics digitized now. You can see at least a part of these one's Charles has been putting up for free, and all of them for a reasonably small fee.

For the geeks: Here's a nifty little flash simulator...
Walkinator

It takes a little trial and error but you make a "creature" of bone and muscle and it will try to teach itself to walk. Hint: start out simple with something like a triangle. What's interesting to me is doing several trials with the same creature and stopping a different points to see it walking differently.
/Well, at least I think its neat.

There's also the Marvel Essentials line that gives you to read a massive amount of original runs of their big titles for cheap (they're printed in B&W and on cheap paper but they're still good). Basically you get 500+ pages per volume for like $10-$12. DC also has they're own version called Showcase Presents. It's a good, cheap way to get Silver Age collections of bit titles for very little money.

How, Best creature yet: make a cube of muscle, add a node in the middle and connect it to the four corners with bone.

I found a DVD at BJs that had all the X-Men in PDF format. No DRM or anything. Love that thing!

Spiderman was always one of my favorite 'scaling' Superheroes. As in, the challenge for him was the same no matter who he was facing. If he was up against the Vulture, it'd take him a little planning, a little thinking, some quips, one-liners, and he'd beat him.

If he was up against the entire team of X-men, it'd take the same amount. He just put more into it the more powerful the enemy was, and was very good at kinda hiding just how powerful he was.

I used to have that particular comic. I used to have a shitload of what are now considered to be ultra-rare, expensive, out-of-print titles.

And then one year, when I was about 14, my depraved uncle came to stay at my house while I was away at summer camp, and sold every single one of them for money to buy weed.

I still, to this day, 26 years later, have not forgiven him.

I'm reading a novel by Greg Iles that was written about 13 years ago, about the admin of a porno website (not even a website, a very exclusive BBS, jeez) who gets caught up in a serial murder. It's so...quaint, describing the technology of 1997, which Iles thought was "state of the art" back in the day.

Greg Iles must really hate Anne Rice, since a fictionalized version of her (named Karin Wheat) appears as one of the murder victims.

And doodled in the margins, and read them, and clipped the coupons and - you get the picture. From an investment point of view, should I have put them in a nitrogen-filled plastic bag instead? Maybe, but it kinda misses the point don'tchathink? 8-)

I hate hearing these stories, especially the ones involving crack.

My youngest brother spent 20 in a drug-induced haze of some sort, and cannot figure out why the rest of us now have homes, families, successful lives and he has nothing.

Of course he's still living in a drug-induced haze, the most recent drug of choice being crack.

He stole thousands of dollars from my parents (and by extension, since everything was to be split among all 4 of us, from the rest of us also).

He lied, he cheated, he stole, he lied lied lied lied.

And then blamed (and still blames) the rest of us for not being caring enough to finance his life.

It is awful, awful, awful, what drugs will do to a person and to an entire family.

re: #93 SanFranciscoZionist

You know, I'm almost inclined to agree, but if Victoria Jackson is acting, does it follow then that Sarah Palin is as well?

No.

re: #82 Uninformed Opinion

the wiki story is slightly different.

?! I was sure it was up nearer the Panhandle. Maybe I'm thinking of the secret one they actually built. Never mind. I guess we don't have one at all, nothing to see here. (whistling innocently, backing away)

Agreement ding. I say performance art, and she may carry on the act for years.

I was leaning to a put-on, but I'm not sure there's a difference from the external perspective. Her shtick helps or hurts the national dialog, no matter what the motivation.

From her website which also features definitions of communism and capitalism on the home page:

Well, I'd feel like we didn't really connect if I didn't tell you about what I really feel is important. I am a genuine true blue believer...not in Kaballah...not in Scientology...not in the New Age movement...not in Mormonism...not in Buddism...not in Hinduism...not in Catholicism...not in Protestantism...but in Jesus Christ. I've studied all those other religions...and as a cynic, and a free spirit...I personally decided to put my faith in Jesus. I've read the Bible all the way through...and I believe it is the Truth...the Word of God. Read John 3:l6, Ephesians 2:8,9, Romans 3:23, and Romans 6:23 and tell me what you think. What do you think? Jesus claimed to be "the Lord"...He was either the "Lord", a liar, or a lunatic. Tell me what you think and why. After all, none of us has died and come back to tell...so we all have our faith in something. What is your faith in? I'm eager to listen and discuss.

It is real and was produced by Philco Ford. Wink Martindale is the actor playing the father and there is a interview I saw on you-tube with Mr Martindale talking about this prophetic video.

This latest batch of hatchlings is quite a good one, BTW. They're coming out of the woodwork, and talking quite sensibly for the most part.

I suspect that Charles gets fewer Trolls with "quiet door openings" than announced ones. He also seems to have gotten some nice comic book fans!

re: #97 reine.de.tout

It is awful, awful, awful, what drugs will do to a person and to an entire family.

Your money went to the black markets to pay for the enormous risk tax which anyone in the business must collect to compensate themselves for the risks posed by misguided law enforcement.

Though, in a free society your brother might still lack the empathy to do his own gardening, or not.
