Cheers, and the same to you! My Easter is nearly gone (Germany here) - went climbing and had a good time with friends - and fresh eggs for breakfast!

Just something for entertainment (reposted from the overnight threat) - a good group on flickr, called Teabonics:

Rachel Maddow totally disembowels the right-wing fauxtrage lie machine:

Let them eat fake.

ACORN gives advice to pimps? Bull.

Climategate? Bull.

Census hysteria? Bull.

IRS storm-troopers coming to literally ram health care down your throat? Bull.

Death panels? Bull.

Missing birth certificate? Bull.

Threats to the Second Amendment? Bull.

And on, and on.

About dissent in this great country, Rachel says, "Two things disqualify you from this process [of political debate]. You can't threaten to shoot people, and you have to stop making stuff up."

Got that, wingnuts?

And will someone PLEASE tell Madcow to get rid of that self-satisfied smirk? re: #16 ClaudeMonet
Specify... like this-
1. Maddow is at least honest and competent. Unfortunately, my dvr grabs a few minutes of Olbermann when I record her. This last week, (Thursday?) after Democrat Texas Rep Emmanuel Cleaver said clearly, in an interview, days earlier, that he was not spat upon, Olbermann is still shouting his outrage about it. Cleaver said it was a 'say it don't spray it' situation. Cleaver was honest when he could get away with fanning the flames. Olbermann shouted from the rooftops that he was spat upon before and after Cleaver's clarification. Olbermann cares much more about the narrative than the truth.

2. Remember the kerfuffle about Republican leader Michael Steele getting in trouble for the $2k stripper reimbursement and various private jet trips? This morning on CNN's roundtable Inside Sources had some guys who did some actual journalism. Turns out the DNC reimbursed some exotic dancer tabs too, for about the same amount. Their private jet and helicopters for VIP's tab also matches up with the RNC. Result? ONLY reports on the RNC. Olbermann is offended, and only mentions RNC largess. CNN did the right thing and mentioned them both, of only once.

33 _RememberTonyC  Sun, Apr 4, 2010 11:06:17am

The smartest and most reasonable media personality on the right is Bill Bennett. He regularly pokes holes in the left's arguments using only facts and logic. He condemns the bircher influence in the GOP. He is the "Buckley-like" character the party needs right now.

If there is clear evidence that both parties have a very close record of shenanigans, and only one party's foibles are shouted from the roof tops, how is 'tu quoque' not valid? Republican stripper tabs are on all the pundit shows. Democrat stripper tabs are mentioned once on CNN on Sunday morning, in a calm, bland, round table discussion, to my knowledge. We shouldn't be bothered by this?

Republicans are usually the ones shooting off their mouths about other people's sex lives and wanting to get in your bedroom to see what you're getting up to in there.

Locker, Cato:
As a stripper-friendly Republican, let me say both of them using donor cash for the 'ladies' as well as the limos and private jets to get there, are the problem. It shows how much we should have government be small, impotent, and distant from our lives as much as is practical. These gentlemen partying with the strippers will be in charge of containing the budget of Obamacare*. I want all the crisp dollar bills to stay in my wallet.

In other news, the fake "massage" places in Houston have changed their names to "art galleries" to skirt the law. Texas Monthly had a big thing on it if you want to look at their links.

*For the record, I think what Obama did to Medicine is an improvement over what we had before, but it's still more statism than I would prefer.

I'm so glad you asked!
'Tu quoque' means hypocrisy does not matter!
Palin is a religious nut, but Obama sat for 20 years in The Church of The Yelling Bigot?
Well,'tu quoque'!
Bush was a moron, but he knew he was not the leader of 57 states, or the Commander in Chief of "corpse-men?
'Tu quoque', again!
Bush wrecked the economy by not regulating the loans to people who could not afford houses because of a program set up by... But our fine president is spending astronomical amounts of cash we don't have?
Doesn't matter! 'Tu quoque'!
'Tu quoque' is just like love. 'Tu quoque' means you never have have to say you're sorry.

Easter Hymn (A.E. Housman)

If in that Syrian garden, ages slain,
You sleep, and know not you are dead in vain,
Nor even in dreams behold how dark and bright
Ascends in smoke and fire by day and night
The hate you died to quench and could but fan,
Sleep well and see no morning, son of man.

But if, the grave rent and the stone rolled by,
At the right hand of majesty on high
You sit, and sitting so remember yet
Your tears, your agony and bloody sweat,
Your cross and passion and the life you gave,
Bow hither out of heaven and see and save.

Smiling would be good (Maddow has a nice but not often enough seen
smile, BTW). At the right time, it can be a sign of a sense of humor about oneself. It's the smirk that gets me. Happiness is one thing, gloating is another.

I'd like to see Olbermann, Maddow, and/or Chris Matthews do a segment on their respective shows called, "I was dead wrong about...". Properly done, it would lead to a lot more respect for them. Hannity, Beck, et al on the right are beyond the possibility of respect, but I'd like to see them at least try it, too.

(BTW, I voted for Obama in the primary. I'm not crazy about him, but I don't think he's any more arrogant than other Presidents we've had. I certainly find him more intelligent than his predecessor and more believable than the last Democratic President.)

I must agree. The amount of time, energy and money spent in this country with preoccupation about sex is absurd. I don't give a damn who does what with who else's genitals as long as they are intelligent and effective legislators. The founding fathers would be aghast. It is time for Americans to grow up about sex.

I think this thread just shows there is bipartisan support for strippers. No matter what they say in public or which party it is, strippers always know they have support from Washington.

It is a beautiful day in politics when both parties can come together for a common cause.

59 keloyd  Sun, Apr 4, 2010 11:43:35am

OTOH, it would not have been newsworthy if Republican big shots went to the lesbian bondage show and spent their own money. The story is (largely) the money. On the point of spending donor cash on private jets and strippers, the two parties have identical stands, and identical records. They do not have identical press coverage.
