Hawaii to Birthers: Talk to the Hand

As we noted last month, the state of Hawaii has pretty much had it with Birthers demanding to see Barack Obama’s real, true, official, not fake, certified, long-form birth certificate, and yesterday the state legislature passed a bill that will allow officials to ignore these obsessive repeated requests from loons.

The measure approved by the state Legislature on Tuesday would carve an exemption in the state’s public records law and allow officials to ignore all kinds of duplicative requests, including those for Obama’s birth certificate.

Hawaii Health Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino has issued two statements since 2008 saying she had seen vital records proving Obama is a natural-born American citizen. Obama was born in Honolulu to a Kenyan father and an American mother.

But state officials say they still get between 10 and 20 e-mails each week seeking verification of Obama’s birth.

Pretty much. God could appear on the White House lawn in front of every media outlet in the world, wave a hand, and show the actual moment of President Obama's birth in Hawaii, and birthers would *still* deny that it happened.

It's not about his birth in Hawaii and never has been. It's about making Barack Obama an "other" and de-legitimizing him as Presdient.

Public records requests are very costly to try to comply with. Having been on the government end of receiving tons of requests for no other reason than a person is on some sort of fishing expedition, just wants to see what's there, and other frivolous requests - I can tell you I don't blame the State of Hawaii one bit for taking this action.

This is good news. It almost proves that there is something "wrong" with the B.C. Anyway in order to be a Natural born citizen, one must be born on US soil from two parents themselves US citizens at the time of the child's birth. Thus, whether born in Hawaii or not, Obama is not eligible to be President. If there is nothing to hide, why is everyong bending over backwards trying to hide it ?

I haven't seen word of this on other birther sites -- much of the energy has moved over to Terry Lakin's court-martial and Orly Taitz's campaign for Secretary of State in California -- and Berg is better known for his tenacity than his organizational skills.

Around here it took about five years from the proposal stage to the several thousand acre wind farms to being up and running. Now it's even faster. The upcoming one that's in the proposal stage will likely be up and running in about three years.

Riddle says if the federal government did its job "Arizona wouldn't have to take this action, and neither would Texas," she said.

It is crazy, but maybe the state should start quantifying the cost of each and every one of these requests and how it affects the state budget - you know since so many of the people looking at this are also to be found among the Tea Party set.

Memo to the birthers - Obama is President of the United States of America. Grow up and deal with it. Your conspiracy nonsense isn't going to do you or anyone else any favors. You sound like a bunch of spoiled brats who didn't get their way and now make stuff up in a snit.

My (possibly incorrect) impression is that some states or agencies do charge for such requests. Government being government, I suspect they're in no hurry to streamline the process and reduce the costs.

The most important purpose of freedom-of-information legislation is to give the public access to information which the government would rather not divulge. When such cases arise, the government sometimes invokes spurious pretexts and excuses not to comply.

Congratulations, birthers. You've done your little bit to undermine the process and strengthen the credibility of those who want to deny the public access to information to which the public is entitled.

you can almost have two baconcheeseburgers for the price of that thing...i'm all for shoveling the protein into my maw after a good workout (and understanding my biostats to the Nth degree), but even i won't eat that...

(ps - they have a lot of sodium too...which is the least worst thing about them;)

Might be parochial but have you tried holding the CTRL key when you hit the LGF Linkage button? It seems to open in a 2nd window and some sort of popup blocker might be the culprit. You probably already tried this, just making a suggestion.

The states are all looking for anyway to generate more revenue. This is more designed for the extra bucks they could make from violations. Is the child going to have to show proof of age or birth, or citizenship? Otherwise, how will they prove age. I have a good idea, national ID cards for everyone. That will make it easy to keep track of all citizens in complying with all sorts of new rules and violations.

The Reform temple in our small (AL) town is doing its annual "Deli Day" tomorrow. The meats and trimmings are flown in from Atlanta, and the rye bread is done by the local (Catholic-run) bakery. We had to put in our orders a week ago. It's not likely Glatt, but it's not KFC either.

To enter my child into kindergarten, they would NOT take a copy and I had to wait nearly a month and lose a spot because I did not have a real copy of her birth certificate. I would love to invite any of you to come talk to the school authorities that would not let my 5 yr old into kindergarten based on a copy of her birth cert. I personally think the lady at the school was being overly bitchy but it is the rules and I was told to not to come back until I had my kid's original..so now I wait still...so what are so wrong about our rules of who becomes our president? Produce an original and there is nothing more to talk about then? Right?

However, even the lowest of we poor people are demanded a birth certificate so I have noticed among people (especially of the far left persuasion) that they are offended by obama even being asked for it in the beginning. I have had to wait weeks for my child's birth certificate to even enroll her in kindergarten which is not compulsatory in our state by the way. I just have seen the far left whine and complain about even being asked in the beginning to even see it..when that is a requirement by law for president.

Good news, in the sense that the goof-o-sphere is capable of much, much greater acting out than this, given even slight provocation. It indicates that this problem, while it may be grossly magnified through the Internet's usual mechanisms, is awfully damn tiny in real life.

Even more so, given that we're talking about emails here, which cost nothing to send and require no thought at all. Even if these were written, mailed requests, though, it's a pretty dismal effort.

Good on Hawaii for clamping down on this, even if it manages to affect as many as several dozen people worldwide.

We all have seen the COLB posted by the Annenberg people. You are right. It looks legit, probably is legit, and it is prima facie evidence that he was born in Hawaii. However, as I am sure you know, the COLB is an electronic document recently produced from data stored on a computer. It is not the same thing as the original birth certificate that was initially issued to his parents on his birth and does not contain all of the same information. The original document will have additional information. It may list the hospital that he was born in, the doctor that delivered him and other interesting tidbits. Amendments may also reflect information concerning his adoptions, etc.

One does not need to be a racist dirty birther or even question his eligibility to be interested in seeing his original birth certificate and the additional tidbits that might be on it. Obama is the most powerful man on the planet and a major historic figure. Historians now and in the future will always be very interested in the minute details of his background, just like they are interested in the background of all US Presidents.

So what exactly is your motivation to want to see it? Idle curiosity? Yeah sure. Have you ever been this curious about any OTHER US president's birth certificate, and the 'tidbits' it contains?

Strange then that in no high-school or college history text I've ever read, has the birth certificate of any US president in the long line of them ever even been mentioned.

The hospital he was born in is known. Both local Hawaiian newspaper printed his birth announcement on Apr 4, 1961. The only realistic choices here, are that either:
A) He was in fact born in Hawaii
B) He is the product of a vast 50 year conspiracy to conceal his birthplace, and by doing so, help to groom him from birth to take the presidency and impose moderate-leaning-left policy on the USA.

In fact, only the first of those choices is even remotely realistic.
