This is good news, as in a three way race according to polls, Crist wins.

Surprised he managed to hang in there this long. Especially considering his "bachelor" status.

What he meant to say was he wouldn't run as an independent unless it became apparent he wouldn't get the republican nomination.

From the link:
Gov. Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio, the Republican candidates for U.S. Senate, frequently traded putdowns this morning during a live debate on “Fox News Sunday.”

But the discussion clarified differences between the men, and there was a headline: Crist, who is far behind in the polls, said he would not run as an Independent.

“I’m running as a Republican,” Crist told Chris Wallace. “This man to my left is a friend, but I hope to defeat him on August the 24th,” Crist said, meaning Rubio.

Will Crist support the winner?

“Of course I will, of course I will,” Crist said.

Great news...it not only frees him up to run a positive campaign based on his record as governor, but it also frees him up to enact laws that will be popular with the majority of Floridians between now and when he leaves office, as he won't be as beholden to the party.

Whether he caucuses with the Democrats or not (if he wins) is another thing entirely...but given the treatment he's received from the GOP, I can't see him running back to them with open arms saying, "no hard feelings" after the election...or vice versa (though they'd be begging for him to stand firm against Obama on all things great and small).

"It is not the case in Florida -- we accepted the stimulus money; all of my fellow governors did," Crist said. "I think it was the responsible and right thing to do for the people and it puts people above politics. In Florida alone, for example, it created or maintained at least 87,000 jobs; 27,000 of those jobs are educators and teachers throughout the state. I dare say what the impact would be throughout the state if those teachers were out of work, unable to put bread on the table of their families. This is necessary and it relates to job creation."

He felt da heat:

Rick Wilson, a veteran Republican campaign consultant, was even blunter. He said he’s not sure that Crist can do anything to turn around his fortunes if he does not repudiate the stimulus and apologize for his support. He said surveys among Republican voters how a deep-seeded hatred of the stimulus.

“You cannot reason with them, you cannot seduce them, you cannot play word games and say the stimulus is a great idea,’’ said Wilson. “He’s got the stink of the stimulus on him and he will never wash it off.’

re: #35 darthstar

If you look at the politifact article, you'll see he directly said he didn't support the stimulus.

Last week Crist told reporters he didn't know Obama was traveling in Florida. On Wednesday, Crist told a national television audience he didn't endorse the $787 billion federal stimulus bill pushed by Obama and passed by Congress in February.

"I didn't endorse it," Crist told CNN host Wolf Blitzer. "I — you know, I didn't even have a vote on the darned thing. But I understood that it was going to pass and I wanted to be able to utilize it for the benefit of my fellow Floridians."

This, from the same man who skipped a Florida Cabinet meeting to campaign with Obama for the stimulus in Fort Myers in February? Who went on national talk shows and across the state selling the plan?

As the interview continued, Crist got on a roll.

"You know, unfortunately, the president thinks that everything we need to do for every problem that comes along is spend more money and that's just wrong," he said.
"

Stink of the stimulus,
Wafts from his pores,
Slammed and shut tight,
The Republican doors.

To run independent,
Will do stand him no stead,
It's out on his rear,
From whence he once fed.

Now he's been tossed,
By the GOP base,
With a shreik and a prayer,
For a new wingnut face.

You'll get craptastic social kneejerk legislation and grandstanding out of Rubio instead of effective or substantive legislation

Prior to 2008, the word ‘evolution’ wasn’t even included in Florida’s science education standards. In 2007, when a much needed revision of the State’s education standards began to lift the veil from the eyes of Florida’s students, Rubio, then Speaker of the House, pleaded for intelligent design to be included in the science curriculum.

Wow! What's Tricky Dick's grandson like?

I think you mentioned the nepotism before heh. I don't have a problem with it if it's the right person for the job.

It's a personal thing with me and the Meeks. Carrie Meek helped me out of two jams before, one with the IRS (they never sent my refund) and another with my mail which all of a sudden stopped coming. She resolved each problem within days. It's one of those things, you need your Congresspeople and if they're there for you, you become a fan.

My problem with Crist running as an Indie is I'm afraid he'll take votes away from Kendrick and Rubio will end up winning because of it. I know Kendrick isn't well known, but he is in S. Florida, that's why he's spending his money elsewhere.

Get ready to lock up your wallet...

Obama: Holding me to my promises is just an ‘old Washington game

For those who thought they could take President Obama at his word on taxes, you might have made a mistake. He does not seem too wedded to the idea of keeping campaign promises not to raise “any form of tax” for those making less than $250,000 a year,
When reporters ask him about the promise, he says they’re just playing some “old Washington game.”

In remarks introducing his debt commission today, Obama said he would not ask the commission to abide by his campaign promise when it produces its recommendations.

Of course this means that all of you, our friends in the media, will ask me and others once a week, or once a day, about what we are willing to rule out or rule in when it comes to the recommendations of the commission. That’s an old Washington game…so I wanted to deliver this message today: we’re not playing that game. I’m not gonna say what’s in, I’m not gonna say what’s out.

268 RogueOne  Wed, Apr 28, 2010 4:02:59pm

the Ted Kennedy windfarm has finally been approved:

First U.S. offshore wind farm approved after decade-long fight

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar approved the first offshore wind farm in the United States Wednesday, a move that ends a nearly decade-long political battle over installing turbines in the waters just off Cape Cod and could pave the way for significant offshore wind development elsewhere in the nation.
.....
The Cape Wind project remains hugely controversial, and a coalition of opponents announced Wednesday they would challenge the decision in court. Salazar said he was "confident" the decision, which has come under scrutiny by 17 state and federal agencies, would be upheld.

"While the Obama administration today dealt a blow to all of us who care deeply about preserving our most precious natural treasures, this fight is not over," said Audra Parker, president of the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound. "Litigation remains the option of last resort. However, when the federal government is intent on trampling the rights of Native Americans and the people of Cape Cod, we must act. We will not stand by and allow our treasured public lands to be marred forever by a corporate giveaway to private industrial energy developers."

10 more years and they might actually start building the damn things.

The real question is if he wins does he caucus with the D's or R's? In his shoes I would say screw the R's, I'm going with the D's to be more effective for my state since they are the majority.

Definitely with the dems. Which would you rather negotiate for--a committee assignment as a minority member, or a committee assignment in which you bargain with the majority for a nice plum in order to be mostly faithful on cloture votes and the votes that the majority leader tells you are party-line, rather than votes of conscience?

Excuse me? It ain't over till the fat lady sings is an old saying going back at least 20 years...It refers to an end of an opera.. And not one person in my whole life thought it was talking about fat ladies or being a bigot...
NOT ONE PERSON..well except for you...
Because it is a sports statement I know you don't understand the concept..So I understand the Faux outrage..
Really It doesn't mean what you think it does

I am well aware of what it mean and the origins of the phrase. I still don't like it.

Soccer is Europe's new method of waging war.

Back in the 80s, the Pentagon was teaching itself a new combined arms concept called AirLand Battle. The metaphor was "WWII was football, AirLand is soccer".

I'll even give odds he'd be a more reliable cloture vote than Joe Lieberman.

First of all, it's lose. I'm reading the article as I type. Obama was discussing everything being on the table for an exploratory debt commission. He was only discussing what is on the table as far as what the commission will look in to. He was trying to keep from getting painted in a corner, but why bother. In a time of severe financial crisis, he wants to keep every avenue open. What a novel concept.

i don't like banging on the way that somebody looks either. but for me, there's a clear difference between callous remarks about someone's appearance and classic sayings like the one that Marjorie employed.

one is an insult; the other is a longstanding euphemism. you don't have to like it. i submit, however, that it is not poor character which makes most of us comfortable with a time-worn figure of speech.

You convinced me. I agree. And I don't think there is any problem with possibly taking what ever he needs from people making under 250,000... that's a lot of people, most people, and it shouldn't be just the responsibility of the rich to make up the deficits... there's a whole lot of poorer citizens who can contribute. He should look at all his options, even options he promised he would never look at.

It's amazing how easy you swallow all this!

Historically, black people were not considered human, but that changed, thank goodness. Someday, terms like "it's not over until the fat lady sings" will be looked upon as archaic language, not becoming an enlightened and spiritual civilization.
