LGF Linkage - Now with HTML Tag Support

Technology • Views: 2,992

We have another improvement to announce in our new LGF Linkage bookmarking tool: now you can use the same HTML formatting you use when posting comments at LGF. Bold, italics, strike-through, blockquote, and HTML links can be used within the description of your post, and the link posting form now includes the same formatting buttons above the description field that you see in our comment posting forms.

And all the same shortcuts work in links too; you can paste in a URL and it will automagically be converted to an HTML link, or paste the URL to a YouTube, Vimeo, Liveleak, or Google video, and it will be converted to a clickable link that will play the video.

This gives you a lot more potential for expression in your posts, and brings the Linkage tool closer to being like your own blog, hosted at LGF.

Our new motto: “A chicken in every pot, and a blog for every lizard.”

A lot of people are being shy and not really trying this new stuff out, it’s painless and fun, so you should give it a try if you haven’t.

I’d like to see more links being posted in the viewer. I’ve been trying to use it more myself. You can search for lizards that you like and see what they’re posting which is great. Easier for discussion too.

There is one problem with Linkage, which I ran into the other day. Since it is so easy to now create links, two people can duplicate links to the exact same article. Lacertilia “Locker” and I did that.

I try to check the state of the Linkage first, but that has to be done often to work. Locker and I posted 8 minutes 21 seconds apart.

Yep, we’ve had several of that species lately. “This place gives me whiplash!” is a popular mating call.

Speaking of trolls, Charles, I’m wondering: With greater freedom comes greater responsibility, and the potential for the abuse thereof. When links become mini-blogs hosted by LGF, won’t you have to hire Stinky’s cousin Drooly LaChase to manage the extra trollage?

Duplication on occasion has happened in the past, but usually far enough apart that both (or more) times didn’t show up on the page at the same time.

Is duplication bad? Well, it does seem a bit wasteful, and reduces the number of links a viewer will see.

Lots of cross-mojoniation there. For those interested in reading it, check here

Eagle Flight, Over The Eastern Pacific
“I, Satan Mekratrig, Lord of Hell, Commander of the Legions of the Damned do hereby declare my dominion over the earth and all that it contains. Crawl to me, humans, knowing the eternity of torment that awaits you.”

“Balls.” Said Lieutenant Michael Wong. The voice that had come over the radio link, booming in the cockpit of his F/A-18E, had distracted him from paying proper attention to the cockpit display of his APG-79 radar. The new AESA radar was a vast improvement over the older APG-73 but that was, as always, a slight problem all of its own. Until the pilots learned how to take full advantage of the improved data flow, they could be swamped with it. Wong was experiencing that problem now, the resolution of the new radar was phenomenal but it seemed to indicate that the wings on the targets 60 nautical miles out in front of him were flapping.

“Full of himself isn’t he? Or should it be ‘it’?” Lieutenant Anthony Squires was genuinely interested, he was renowned as being the Ronald Reagan air group’s grammar geek.

“Try a ‘that’.” Wong wasn’t really interested, the targets in front of him were behaving oddly. They were slow, 180 miles per hour at most, they had a strong radar image yet seemed to have no infra-red signature. That was an odd combination to put it mildly. The bombastic message that had interrupted his concentration was irritating, no more than that. So what were those contacts in front of him? Birds? They were too fast for that surely? The Peregrine Falcon was the fastest bird known and that could, just, hit 180 mph in a steep dive. These were doing that in level flight. So they had to be some form of aircraft. That was assuming the AESA radar wasn’t generating a completely false image of course. And who knew how the electronic systems were malfunctioning following the delivery of The Message three days ago? There was one way to find out.

I think the new linkage feature is great.

I also still like to link to things directly on the threads.

No,no, no.
It has to be Drooly DeLaChaise.
Street my mom grew up on in NOLA.

I’m still hoping Spammy McSpammerhammer gets a position.

OR, it could be Flouncy McCatapult.

Stinky’s got plenty of help with you and me, Cato. If trolls show up, they’ll be caught and flounced.

Discovery Channel… Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking…

RIGHT NOW!

OMG, I’ll go DVR it. I showed his photo to my kids and asked if they thought he looked intelligent. They know me well enough to hedge their bets and said “yeeesss?”, mom with the tricky questions?

re: #89 Floral Giraffe

Plus, the stories are frequently from different sources, so a little different information, sometimes.

Locker and I posted the exact same link.

And while on the “linkage” page one sees many links, if one just operates the little triangle at the top of this page one just sees 20 links at a time.

I’m not saying it is a big problem, but it’s just one of those little things that happens when there is concurrency (in this case among link mongering lacertilia.)

Well, IF Charles thinks it’s a problem, he will crank out some fancy widgit that will take care of it. He’s really good that way. Mad Skilz & all.

Really, there’s a street named that?
Too funny!

Yep.
Delachaise.
It runs next to Touro Hospital.
The house is gone, the property now has a large parking garage on it.
Sad.
I still have the key to the house. Not that I can actually use it for anything. It’s just a silly connection.

Sometimes posts show up twice with the same comment number, BUT if you refresh the page you’ll see only one. It’s a glitch.

re: #103 Floral Giraffe

Yes he is. However, to avoid it would mean querying databases, which would slow down the posting routine, and be another burden for the server.

Well, if you were Palestinian, you could hold up that key in front of one eye, a big teardrop in the other one and a mournful look on your face, and proclaim to the world how teh Jooz took away your property in 1948 and won’t give it back!

And then throw rocks as a “gesture of defiance”.

My first try at linking gave an error - “posted already” my second went through, but then someone else posted the same link.

Maybe Charles has to tweak it? exact same link, regardless of title or blurb won’t go thru??

Arlo talks for 45 seconds

Deportee

Hoyt Axton did it better

The crops are all in and the peaches are rotting,
The oranges are packed in their creosote dumps.2.
They’re flying ‘em back to the Mexico border
To take all their money to wade back again.
Goodbye to my Juan, goodbye Rosalita,
Adios mis amigos, Jesus y Maria.
You won’t have a name when you ride the big airplane,
All they will call you will be “deportees.”

My father’s own father, he waded that river.
They took all the money he made in his life.
My brothers and sisters came workin’ the fruit trees,
They rode the big trucks ‘till they laid down and died.

Goodbye to my Juan, goodbye Rosalita,
Adios mis amigos, Jesus y Maria.
You won’t have a name when you ride the big airplane,
All they will call you will be “deportees.”
The skyplane caught fire over Los Gatos Canyon,
A fireball of lightnin’ an’ it shook all the hills.
Who are these chicanos all scattered like dry leaves?
The radio tells me, “They’re just deportees.”

We died in your hills and we died in your deserts,
We died in your valleys, we died in your plains.
We died ‘neath your trees and we died ‘neath your bushes,
Both sides of the river we died just the same.

You won’t have a name when you ride the big airplane,
All they will call you will be “deportees”
Is this the best way we can grow our big orchards?
Is this the best way we can grow our good fruit?
To die like the dry leaves and rot on my topsoil
And be known by no name except “deportee.”?
