Ugh. Just. Ugh.

WTH is wrong with this country?

We NEED two parties. One party rule is not a good solution for a Republic. Why is one going off the rails?

No, we need more than two parties to break the stranglehold the GOP and the Dems have on us.

That would be nice. Unfortunately, both parties have rigged the electoral laws in this country so that it's damn near impossible for third parties and independent candidates to get on the ballot, and neither party is about to give up those advantages.

This should give pause to those sane (and non white suprememacist) votors in KY that voted for Rand Paul because of the misinformation and obnoxious loud rhetoric that passes for Right Wing discourse in this country.

It's fucking 2010, we shouldn't have white supremacists in the U.S. Senate. Or Christian supremeacists for that matter. That's another story as there are Christian supremacists in office.

In states like Florida and Nevada, the zealots - sorry, the tea partiers - are probably going to wind up dividing the R vote. In states like Kentucky and Pennsylvania I expect their zealotry to drive nominal R voters into their bunkers, and maybe even into supporting Ds.

Regardless, they'll double down for 2012. Their success will reflect the Right of their mission, and their failures will be where they weren't True enough to their cause.

Earlier today I found myself a bit surprised by Stormfront's support for Ron/Rand Paul. I mean, Teh Pauls are crazy and all that, but a very different brand of crazy nonetheless. In case anyone else is likewise puzzled, here's a post from Stormfront explaining it (no link):

Why We Should Support Ron Paul
Ron Paul is NOT a White Nationalist. His Libertarian policies will also conflict with National Socialism, something that a good number of Stormfront members support. However, he is the least toxic candidate by leaps and bounds.

On issues particularly important to White Nationalists or the Pro-White in general, of all the mainstream candidates:

* Ron Paul is the strongest opponent of "Hate Crime" Laws.

* Ron Paul is the strongest opponent of Amnesty and "open border" movements.

* Ron Paul wants to end birth-right citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants.

* Ron Paul is the strongest opponent of welfare programs that among other things, would redistribute the income of hard-working White families into the hands of lazy non-Whites.

* Ron Paul is the strongest opponent of Globalism and all attempts to create a North American Union.

* Ron Paul is the strongest opponent of military support and foreign aid to countries like Israel.

* Ron Paul is the least likely to support government crackdowns on Pro-White organizations, and the most likely to veto any legislation to that effect.

So, there.

WTH is wrong with this country?

We NEED two parties. One party rule is not a good solution for a Republic. Why is one going off the rails?

It's a kind of political realignment that occurs periodically. I'm not really liking it, either.

What kind of crazy is in the water today? Teabaggin' crazy!

Tea Party Leader: Allah Is 'Monkey God'

A top Tea Party leader, enraged by a plan to build a mosque near Ground Zero, has referred to the Islamic deity as a "monkey-god" and to Muslims as "the animals of allah." His Tea Party group, meanwhile, tells TPMmuckraker it's not concerned abut the rhetoric.
Mark Williams, the conservative talk radio host who is listed as chairman of the Tea Party Express and acts as a frequent spokesman for the group, wrote on his blog Friday:

The monument would consist of a Mosque for the worship of the terrorists' monkey-god and a "cultural center" to propagandize for the extermination of all things not approved by their cult.
Williams has a history of incendiary remarks. As we reported at the time, in February he called President Obama "a half-white racist" in an email to colleagues.

None of this appears to have prompted Tea Party Express -- the prominent Tea Party group created and run by a California GOP consulting firm -- to rethink its ties to Williams.

Must Concur. It's one thing to reject Islamic definitions of blasphemy and denounce sharia, but to animalize Muslims is not only to insult them, it's also to start dehumanizing them so as to make them easier to kill. Its the sort of language the Soviet Union used to employ regarding "class enemies".

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Research by a University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) professor shows an association between hearing loss and the use of the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra.

Findings published May 18 in Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery indicate a potential for long-term hearing loss following use of Viagra, and possibly following use of other phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE-5i) drugs such as Cialis and Levitra, although results on those drugs are inconclusive.

Incidentally, and from the Stormfront post mentioned upthread - this is a Ron Paul quote the good folks at Stormfront didn't like:

Racism is simply an ugly form of collectivism, the mindset that views humans only as members of groups and never as individuals. Racists believe that all individual who share superficial physical characteristics are alike; as collectivists, racists think only in terms of groups.

Fortunately, the Paulian agenda has plenty of items to make up for this horrible idea.

I agree. But can you see that it mirrors the language and attitudes expressed in the koran, with regard to "enemies of allah"? How is calling any people sons of pigs and monkeys anything less than an attempt to dehumanize them?

Of course, in order for Muslims to not believe people with certain faiths are not the sons of apes and pigs, they'd have to not read/accept the Muslim Holy book which explicitly calls people these things.

They have to learn to read their scriptures in a critical-historical sense: as haveing been written by human beings in a certain cultural, social and historical context.

It took Christianity many centuries to adopt this point of view, and it is still not universal, there are many literalists out there in the Christian faith.

This approach has only begun to take hold in Islam. It does not help that the West directly or indirectly promotes fundamentalist states that spread a literal interpretation of the Koran.

I guess "Monkey God" is one step crazier than "Moon God".

All we have to do is convince them of the literal and incontrovertible truth of our scriptures and they will be won over, I guess.

Our Western civilization did not shed the middle Ages and crawl into the Enlightenment until we started to be able to see the Holy Scriptures as the work of human beings that came about in a certain point of history and society.

That does not necessarily have to diminish the strength of their message, but it does allow us to be able to practice our various religions (and various versions of our religions) without simultaneously feeling the need to kill unbelievers or heretics.

213 dauntlessone  Wed, May 19, 2010 6:12:49am

Because someone supports a candidate it does not mean they are aligned on every issue.

How many communists support Democrats for office? Where is LGF outrage at this? Oh wait, thats different... People support candidates that support policies that are more closely aligned with theirs than the alternative. Just because white supremacists support a candidate does not make the candidate sympathetic to the nut cases.

Political donations is a red herring. The Paul's have plenty of opinions to be concerned about without gettign mired in what should be a non issue.

Some of the posts here are well thought out. Many times it seems like people are determined to interject with posts that have little if anything to do with the topic of the thread. I guess if people want to make every thread about "their" pet topic of the moment they can but it wastes others time who want to have dialog about the thread's topic.

My initial post (213) was to the thread's topic and my opinions on it. My second was a reply to someone who asked a specific question "So you didn't read the thread?" My summation of the threads contents was in direct response to that question.

If anyone here wants to actually discuss whether it is fruitful to spend your time around yapping about who contributed to a political candidates campaign and claiming gotcha when they don't return the money would be welcomed by me. In my opinion it is almost as silly as the birthers spending all their time and energy trying to get Obama's birth certificate.

As for why I posted here, it was because I wanted to have a discussion about an issue. Sadly, no one actually wants to debate only deflect.

re: #218 dauntlessone

Ron Paul's connections to extremists go FAR beyond simply taking money from neo-Nazis, and refusing to return it when he learned where it came from.

Start with his long-time connection to the John Birch Society. And then check out the racist newsletters he published with white supremacist Lew Rockwell. And then look into his frequent appearances on the Alex Jones show.

Somehow I suspect you're not really interested in these things, though.

You're really not understanding this if you think it's only about the donations, and not about the reasons why the Neo-Nazis at Stormfront support Rand Paul. Do you get that?

As for why I posted here, it was because I wanted to have a discussion about an issue. Sadly, no one actually wants to debate only deflect.

I'd be glad to. You seem to have gotten the false impression somewhere that this is mainly about financial contributions. The financial contributions are mainly a signifier; they reflect the reasons why the Stormfront types support both Pauls. If you can accept that, then we could move on

Also, you mentioned communist support for Democrats. In general, Communists and other flavors of the 'radical left' tend not to vote for Democrats, but for much father fringe candidates.

For example, here is an article in the Worker's Vanguard urging all communists to break completely with the Democratic party.

Filtering out Rasmussen (which even FiveThirtyEight has started to write off as flawed), Paul only leads Conway in the general 52-48, or even closer. With Critz (D)'s victory over Burns (R) in a heavily Republican district, the thought of Kentucky going the same way in the general is not entirely far-fetched, especially if Paul's more unsavory associations become a talking point.

I get that. You have 21 posts (including 2 bumps and multiple posters) of varying opinions on him. 21 posts at an irrelevant impotent organization's blog hardly defines a political candidate.

The reasons they seem to support Rand Paul is that he is for more secure borders, pro gun rights, less Patriot Act, less foreign involvement, more controls on the Federal Reserve. While you may disagree with his positions, none of these are reason to tar and feather a candidate with titles like Racist or Nazi.

Lastly on communists. You just validated my point. You found an article calling for communists to break FROM the Democrat party. Yes they would prefer much more liberal politicians, just as this handful of racists were lamenting lack of a "qualified" candidate.

I'm sorry, but do you think that communist is 'more liberal'? Communism is not 'liberal' in the sense that is used in the US.

I'm kind of unsure how I validated your point. Given that I showed communists saying that the Democrats were the enemies of communists and need to be brought down, I'm uncertain how that showed support. Can you clarify?

I'm kind of unsure how I validated your point. Given that I showed communists saying that the Democrats were the enemies of communists and need to be brought down, I'm uncertain how that showed support. Can you clarify?

If you are not wiling to admit communists are more closely aligned with Democrats over Republicans the majority of the time, you are not being intellectually honest. I suppose an Obama campaign office having a poster of Che Guevara on the wall shows no sympathies to communism either. I can imagine the outrage if a Republican campaign office had a corresponding poster up. From the article you quoted, please read the subtitle. It is calling for fellow communists to break from the Democrat party. In order for them to break from the Democrat Party, wouldn't they have to be with the Democrat party at some level to begin with? If you want a divorce then say you were never married, people will scratch their heads.

Next, lets look at some other embarrassing supporters. New Black Panthers supported Barack Obama. They are a racist organization. William Ayers, admitted domestic terrorist, did he support his long time friend for President? Jeremiah Wright spread racism and hatred from the pulpit apparently except when the Obama's were in attendance. Sam Graham-Felson is a communist who worked as a paid staffer for Obama's campaign.

These associations are all stronger that those fellow posters have claimed should give pause for Rand Paul supporters. Find a picture of Ron or Rand Paul attending a KKK meeting presided over by Robert Byrd, and you will have something.

I do not support Ron Paul, I think he is a kook. I don't know enough about Rand Paul to comment on whether he would make a good Senator but all I have read here is slander, innuendo, and baseless accusations.

If Rand Paul supports racism or racist policies, please reveal them so I can properly denounce him as a bigot.

Argument by assertion is not an argument.

If you are not wiling to admit communists are more closely aligned with Democrats over Republicans the majority of the time, you are not being intellectually honest.

I find that an amazingly dumb claim. "more closely aligned" means zilch. The Democrats are not at all aligned with Communism. At all. They do not believe in what communists believe in. Their tenants are wildly divergent. The Democrats, for example, do not believe the means of production should be owned by the worker, or the withering away of the State-- both fundamental tenants of Communism.

I'm sorry, but if you really have that simplistic a view of politics-- that it exists on a simple axis and you can claim the Democrats are 'more aligned' with communism, I don't think this conversation will really get anywhere. That point of view is ludicrous.

Talking about simplistic view and mis-statements. Please quote me accurately.

I did not say Democrats are more aligned with communists. I said communists are more closely aligned with Democrats. I hope you realize the difference. I also provided examples of communists aligned with (as in working for) Obama Campaigns.

I do not claim Obama is a communist. I was simply using the point that just because someone who is a racist or a communist supports a candidate does not mean the candidate is supportive of the groups repugnant views as many here have asserted about Rand Paul.

There isn't much of a difference, no. Can you explain how the supposed difference matters in this case?

I also provided examples of communists aligned with (as in working for) Obama Campaigns.

No. You provided one example of someone you claimed was actually a Communist. That claim does not, actually, appear to be true. You also said the standard Wright/Ayers schtick, ignoring, I guess, that Obama has repudiated Wright and that he served with Ayers in a charity founded by a Republican.

I do not claim Obama is a communist. I was simply using the point that just because someone who is a racist or a communist supports a candidate does not mean the candidate is supportive of the groups repugnant views as many here have asserted about Rand Paul.

Please find someone making that assertion in this thread, and back up your claim.

re: #227 Obdicut

I can only conclude that your being deliberately obtuse.

1. The difference is "I was simply using the point that just because someone who is a racist or a communist supports a candidate does not mean the candidate is supportive of the groups repugnant views as many here have asserted about Rand Paul." One more time in case you still don't understand. Support FROM a communist for a candidate does not mean the candidate supports communism.

2. You are arguing as if I am claiming Obama supports those peoples corrupt views. Actually the opposite. My point was that even though hate mongers communists and racists supported Obama, that does not mean Obama agrees with those views.

3. Assertions. Start with posts 8, 10, 16, 21, 63.

It is not true. I took the minute it takes to listen first hand to the audio. You should too before you throw it out there.

I did. What a creep-- he danced and weaseled around the simple yes or no question. He did not say that he would have voted for it. He made the self-aggrandizing, pointless, conceited claim that he'd have marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. That, combined with his insistence on local control, his stance on the ADA, to me combines the scumminess of opposing the civil rights act with the sleaziness of not openly saying so.

But why not join the thread in progress on that topic?
