Hey, Who Let Those Neo-Nazis In Here?

US News • Views: 3,607

Oops.

A national anti-illegal-immigration group has pulled out of a planned June 5 rally in Phoenix to support Arizona’s immigration law because of a key organizer’s alleged links to neo-Nazis.

The website for the “Phoenix Rising” Arizona Rally and Freedom March event scheduled for Wesley Bolin Plaza lists as “confirmed” speakers former Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, state Sen. and Senate Bill 1070 sponsor Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, and GOP Senate challenger J.D. Hayworth, although a spokesman said Hayworth won’t be participating.

The story of Nazi infiltration through music is an old one. The neo-Nazis are just following the road laid down by Goebbels. The sad part is that other people allowed it to happen, being either oblivious to it or OK with it. Either way, they let themselves be Useful Idiots for totalitarians.

2 Stanghazi  Sat, May 22, 2010 6:03:04pm
Mark Sanders, a spokesman for Hayworth, on Friday said Hayworth won't be appearing at the Phoenix rally. Hayworth, a former Arizona congressman, is running against Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in the Aug. 24 GOP primary and has been endorsed by ALIPAC.

"We have a conflict," Sanders said.

Yeah right.

Sunshine on these groups. If you dig a little deeper, you will see the blatant nn hate. Kobach et al.

The skinhead is still a member of the group. They lied about booting him out.

Well, the surprise on this one is that the organizers are now openly allowing skinheads and neoNazis to attend, participate and even organize these rallies. They are getting bolder and less afraid of connecting themselves to avowed racists.

I take it they usually have an open door policy.

I once heard something about having an open mind as long as it isn't open far enough your brains fall out. I think that may be applicable in this case.

Yeah right, so they can court them with numerous dog whistles while trying to get their vote, but let some of them actually show up to speak about what they believe and watch them run for the hills.

The Mainstream GOP tried this already with the Far Evangelical Right, have you noticed who is seemingly in control of the party lately? If you court and pander to these people they will eventually become your core base voters. Once that happens how do you ignore them?

I think the religious right has always been in control of the GOP. Least most liberals will tell you that. But they used to be in the background, pulling strings now and then. Now they're up front and center.

You're talking about this guy?

But William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee, or ALIPAC, is distancing his group from event organizer Daniel Smeriglio of Hazleton, Pa., over Facebook connections to White supremacists and a European neo-Nazi musical act.

I'll never forget the other day when I was brewing a cuppa'. I walked out onto the deck just before the sun rose and found a deer just munchin' along. I crept back into the kitchen, grabbed two pots and then ran out onto the deck banging them together and screeching.

ABQ, 5280ft
88 degrees 10% humidity

pretty dry right now, under the average by a bit, but the old timers out here remember humidity consistently in one digit...as the city grew, humidity rose....my swamp cooler works like a charm, reducing the temp by at least ten degrees any time of day...but that would not be sufficient for a higher humidity

88 degrees 10% humidity

pretty dry right now, under the average by a bit, but the old timers out here remember humidity consistently in one digit...as the city grew, humidity rose...my swamp cooler works like a charm, reducing the temp by at least ten degrees any time of day...but that would not be sufficient for a higher humidity

Lower Alabama: 97f. 93% humidity. Some swamps, no coolers.

I had to kick him out. Pretty much for good. He used it last night, too, but no one told me about it, and one customer found it offensive and asked him not to say it again. Well, he said it again. While the same guy was within earshot. There's no slack to be given here, as far as I'm concerned.

I was at CompUSA a few years back, returning a CD when this old man started going off about the Zionist controlled government. It started with the Arabs, then it went to the bankers/Jews and the Zionist lobby. I looked around at the two lines of people and everyone was giving him dirty looks. The clerks did nothing. Finally I yelled at the guy, "Shut up! We don't want to listen to your opinion on anything!" And he did and walked away.

Good for you! That shit should never be tolerated one bit.

It's... more complicated than that. My clientele is very mixed. If I threw out everyone who used it then I'd quickly find myself out of business. In this instance someone was offended, twice, and I had to act. It's hard having a conversation with a kid (I said he was 14, but that was guess; he could be as old as 16) who really should have been taught a long time ago when to not use that word.

Heh. I remember when I was 6 or 7, sitting in Nathan's with my dad, and I asked, "Why are black people called _______?" I got the stare of death for a few seconds before being told, in no uncertain terms, to never let that slip out of my mouth again. Fast forward to high school in the Bronx, where no ethnicity had a majority in the student body, and I quickly learned that some people could use it.

No, it's not fair, but it's the way it is.

The story of Nazi infiltration through music is an old one. The neo-Nazis are just following the road laid down by Goebbels. The sad part is that other people allowed it to happen, being either oblivious to it or OK with it. Either way, they let themselves be Useful Idiots for totalitarians.

there's a lot of fucked up nationalist/racist stuff that goes on in the black metal scene, there's a book called Lords of Chaos that goes into it. Arson, racism, murder, cannibalism, it just blows the mind.

And it really sucks because there's black metal bands that are making very interesting and innovative and positive music, and they constantly have to play defense because of all these associations with the freakshows and racists in the genre, who make headlines and do terrible things :/

The Catholic Church wisely picking their battles:

Pope Decries Gay Marriage in Portugal Visit

Pope Benedict XVI used a famous Portuguese shrine to the Virgin Mary on Thursday as a stage to denounce abortion and gay marriage, just days before Portugal is expected to join five European countries that have legalized same-sex weddings.

Pope Benedict XVI greeted Portugal’s President Anibal Cavaco Silva, left, at the end of a mass at the Catholic shrine of Fatima in central Portugal on Thursday.

In a speech here to Catholic social service groups, Benedict called for initiatives aimed at protecting “the family based on the indissoluble marriage between a man and a woman, help to respond to some of today’s most insidious and dangerous threats to the common good.”

(...)

The pope’s remarks came on the third day of a four-day visit aimed at shoring up Christian belief in increasingly secular Europe, although it has been somewhat eclipsed by the sexual-abuse scandal confronting the Vatican in recent weeks. Benedict also has used the visit to signal a more forceful tone in confronting the abuse, which he has called a “sin inside the church.”

Got that? Gay marriage is one of today's most insidious and dangerous threats to the common good.

Anyway, glass houses, stones, and mind your damn business Benedict.

Although it is 90 percent Catholic, Portugal has seen a notable shift away from Catholic teaching in recent years. President Aníbal Cavaco Silva is expected to sign the bill into law in the coming days.

I am very picky about workmen & the jobs that they do.
Every single workman who has been a Habitat for Humanity volunteer, has been a super workman. Work done properly the FIRST time, fairly priced, and I keep using them, particularly for referrals, where I need someone new.
My roofer, electrician, plumber, chimney guy, are all Habitat for Humanity referrals!

this is a good thing to know when I buy a house :D

Anyone else notice this? We just got a SideWiki on this page. The person is in complete denial about the neo-Nazi connection:

JD Hayworth will be holding a barbecue and fundraiser after the Phoenix Rising Rally at the same location of Wesley Bolin Park Plaza.

We originally had JD Hayworth listed as an official speaker for the Phoenix Rising Rally event. JD Hayworth will actually be speaking at his barbecue after the event.

We apologize for any confusion this may have caused and hope that you will attend the barbecue after our spectacular rally!

So JD Hayworth did not have a conflict per se, he was just appearing afterwards & would reap the after crowd.

Have you been written up in the local paper? I bet you have. I would love to read about what you do.

This is a very small town, so we are a press/tv cliche. The city gives us most of the property we build on (condemned or abandoned). Oprah's org gave us enough cash to build 25 houses for displaced Katrina families, but they were mostly pre-fabs so we don't count them. Each year or so the Reform temple and the Catholic parish kick in enough for a house. There's a lot of Mayberry about this place.

The 14 signifies...

Among White Nationalists, 14 signifies the "Fourteen Words"—"We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children"—attributed to David Lane. Often found in combination with 88 (1488, 8814, 14/88, etc.).

The dog tattoo I believe is the KSS88 logo.

Here in town, a kid bought one CD at a store, and filled his bag with stolen ones. The owner chased him down the street and grabbed the bag when the kid dropped it. The kids mother called later to demand the CD the kid paid for. When the kid and mother showed up, security grabbed him and called the cops.

Proceeds support LGF and the wonderful features here, as well as the ongoing regular LGF where we have such an easy time interacting, arguing, discussing and joking around.

There's the "donate" and "subscription" options, of course, and also, for a mere $16.35 plus about $4 postage, you can buy your Very Own Copy of Volume 2 of the LGF Cookbook.

And while you're there take a look at Volume 1; if you order both at the same time, there's only ONE postage fee (not two!).

Steve, people on LGF are going to discuss things. They're going to post things like Sarah Palin's reaction to the law. It's not 'whining', and it makes you look foolish to call it that.

The law is not the same as the federal law. There are two huge differences, right off the bat: This law mandates that police officers do a citizenship check during any stop of a person, rather than simply empowering them to, and it allows people to sue the police if they feel they're not enforcing this law vigilantly enough. There are myriad other differences, as well-- as you might expect from a law partially penned by a white supremacist.

I get that you're fine with the bill. Perhaps instead of simply saying that anyone who talks about the bill is whining, you could come up with a cogent defense of the bill. Charles laid out the reasons why it's a nasty piece of work pretty well, and a lot of other posters have added to that. I think this rally is a very good demonstration of the dangers of the sort of racist demagoguery typified by this bill.

I think Torment is way better, but it's a style preference partially. The fallout games have somewhat more freedom, but Torment has a mood and narrative that just amaze me. I prefer Fallout 1 to Fallout 2, but that's probably because F2 was buggy as hell when it came out.

My hippie neighbors have been hinting they want a tour of my garden. Tonight the little boy (about 5-6) was quizzing me about the fish in my pond so I invited them back for a tour. At first the little boy was more interested in the gold fish but I showed him the tadpoles and asked him what sound a frog makes. He spent the rest of the visit hopping around my garden making frog sounds. I told his pop that I'd pay 10 cents for every slug his boy ate. Pop looks at me with a straight face and says, "we're vegetarians". How says hippies don't have a sense of humor?

Gus - I'm still a proponent of drilling. There hasn't been an incident in the Gulf in, gee, 20 or 30 years or more. This is the first in that time.

It's just so completely and utterly devastating, it's just unimaginable the amount of oil gushing from this thing. It was preventable. That's the thing that has my blood boiling. It was preventable, with current and available technology, available to those making the decisions on the rig, it did not have to happen.

By law, it is the responsibility of the oil company to do the clean-up, within whatever regulatory requirements are in place for what is used and how its used.

HOWEVER, the Corps of Engineers has been asked by the State for a permit to do some dredging and build berms to prevent oil from washing up into some areas, but the state has finally had to order the work done without the permits; I have no clue what the Corps of Engineers is doing, surely they know this is a serious situation that requires immediate action.

The Feds have, since the 80's, trusted industry to police it's own activities based on the fact that it was in their best economic interest to do so (liability vs. profit). Now that it has been determined that that model is fundamentally flawed (Hello, too big to fail! Hello, BP!), the need for regulatory reform is obvious.

Will it result in fundamental change to protect the people of the US, or will it be tailored to protect the institutions that fucked our collective asses without kissing us first?

It a lot like any other reforms I've seen before. Specific regulations will be created to target the appropriate causes of catastrophic events. However, gaping holes will be left regarding other matters and new loopholes will be created. This is the same with bank reform, tax reform, etc.

I'm not so sure about that, the MMS approved BP's plan to displace the mud and put in the balanced plug. In this case it appears the regulations failed to stop BP from doing something unsafe.

543 Mad Prophet Ludwig  Sat, May 22, 2010 10:29:34pm

I just posted this upstairs in my pseudo blog.

This paper has been cited 231 times. Since its publication in 2005, the rate of acceleration has only increased as observed by yearly ice-melt data.
At this point, it is almost impossible to hope that sea level rises will be limited to only 1 meter. An outcome of a two meter rise by 2100 seems almost assured if we do not change our ways in the immediate coming decades.

A 20th century acceleration in global sea-level rise

John A. Church1,2 and Neil J. White1,2

[Link: www.psmsl.org...]

Multi-century sea-level records and climate models
indicate an acceleration of sea-level rise, but no 20th
century acceleration has previously been detected. A
reconstruction of global sea level using tide-gauge data
from 1950 to 2000 indicates a larger rate of rise after 1993
and other periods of rapid sea-level rise but no significant
acceleration over this period. Here, we extend the
reconstruction of global mean sea level back to 1870 and
find a sea-level rise from January 1870 to December 2004
of 195 mm, a 20th century rate of sea-level rise of 1.7 ±
0.3 mm yr1 and a significant acceleration of sea-level rise
of 0.013 ± 0.006 mm yr2. This acceleration is an important
confirmation of climate change simulations which show an
acceleration not previously observed. If this acceleration
remained constant then the 1990 to 2100 rise would range
from 280 to 340 mm, consistent with projections in the
IPCC TAR.
Citation: Church, J. A., and N. J. White (2006), A
20th century acceleration in global sea-level rise, Geophys. Res.
Lett., 33, L01602, doi:10.1029/2005GL024826.

Yes, exactly, that appears to be the key failure. Instead of setting additional seals ahead of displacing the heavy mud, about 16lb/gal, they went ahead and removed the mud first, displacing it with sea-water, 8.7lb/gal. The MMS approved this brilliant shortcut.

Just a quick question if I am not too slow, wouldn't a a backside blow out have been caused by a failed packoff in the casing head? This do to the same reason of the mud being displaced and the cementing not holding?

They have a smaller one on the sea-bed right next to the riser leak. It would have solvent pumped in to help prevent the hydrates from forming, also, less sea-water would enter so again, less hydrates. The first one, all 78 tons of it, allowed too many hydrates to form. Also, this problem could fracture the cofferdam or riser it uses. The problem is the amount of gas involved, not the oil.

To these folks (probably because of what they see on Fox) SEIU = black people. Why else use the terms thugs & reparations.

That "stealth reparations" race-baiting meme in those Hot Air comments comes straight from Glenn Beck:

[Link: www.glennbeck.com...]

Let me ask you this: The green movement, how come his green jobs czar is a black nationalist? A communist black nationalist. A black nationalist again is the same kind of thinking of Jeremiah Wright. What does that have to do with green jobs? How was he a black nationalist militant, become communist, anarchist and then find the eco movement and then say this is the job for me? Because the green jobs czar isn't concerned about the planet. He's concerned about reparations. ...

Barack Obama is setting up universal healthcare, universal college, green jobs as stealth reparations. That way the victim status is maintained. And he also brings back back‑door reparations.

This would be crazy if he hadn't stated it himself. And if you couldn't pick up an organizational chart of the Democratic health plan and find next to the national coordinator for health the Office of Civil Rights and Office of Minority Health. I don't know if minorities are sicker than the rest or need different ‑‑ do they have different medicines for minorities? This wouldn't make sense. If in the health bill it didn't state that colleges that had a reputation and had an aggressive minority acceptance level in medical school that they would have better access to money, more access to money and a better partner. But don't worry. African‑Americans will get the reparations and if you are Jewish or you are Mormon, we'll play Barbra Streisand or Donny and Marie for you this morning and that should put a little salve on the old wounds.

The person who posted the side-wiki is one of the admins for the Phoenix Rising page on facebook. They posted the same thing on the facebook page, too. Ever since ALIPAC denounced this group I have been looking into them. LOTS of known supremacist (sp) on that page. Wish that all the good folks speaking at that event would back out. Am very afraid that this rally of theirs is going to make ALL of us out here in Arizona look like racists. (ugh) They need to stay in Pennsylvania. We don't need hate imported from PA out here in Arizona. We've got enough of that already and THEY, at least, are obvious opposers and not pretending to be supporters of our cause trying to push through their hate-filled agenda.

What "good folks" would that be?

Arpaio, Pearce, Herrera, Moreno.....ALL those speakers. I just don't think they have done their research on the folks throwing the rally. Luckily Hayworth disassociated himself. There are some good folks out here in Arizona who could wind up being linked to the hate that exists in this group. Hate is not what SB1070 is about. Being legal is what we care about.

At this time of night you won't get much action on this. You might want to jump into a fast moving daytime thread on this subject if you want more response.

I'm a little late to this thread, but is the controversy over this organizer because two of his facebook friends have Neo-Nazi links?

The skinhead is still a member of the group. They lied about booting him out.

I called one of his friends (Ciaran Palmer) out on the facebook page yesterday. She started sprouting off all sorts of hate-speech. "Seperation and Segregation" "This is War"....nice warm and fuzzy stuff. She also stuck up for Smeriglio. Said he was the most genuine guy she has ever known and she's known him since those 2007 rallies that got him in hotwater for being racist, to begin with. He denounced her, publically, back then....but she was all over this rally's page showing her support (which you would think he would boot her being how it is all over google that this woman is a white supremicist and be said he was in no way connected to her back in 2007). I brought forward one of her finer quotes, off board, and then she POOF vanished from facebook. But she was really going off on Gheen (ALIPAC guy). Saying he needed to be driven to the dirt.

If I go to a rally it will be on the 29th or 12th. The one on the 5th just looks all sorts of funky to me.
