The Right Loves Rand Paul

Politics • Views: 2,133

Tea Party “activists” in New Jersey are looking for the next scalp.

Far right race baiter (aka the most influential conservative in America) Rush Limbaugh says Rand Paul is a victim of an “attempt to tar the entire tea party movement.”

And Dick Armey also says Rand Paul is a victim of the media.

Since when has being a narrow minded bigoted throwback equalled being a victim?

Rush loves to whine about liberals# "victim mentality". Except when his people cannot come up with a better excuse for their blunders...

Asking a political candidate to clarify his stance on positions = vicious left wing attacks.

Hey, if he thinks that we should all go back to pre 1936 America, he should talk openly about it. The libertarian "let the chips fall where they may" attitude deserves a fair airing. Maybe then the tea partiers would understand that minimum wage, child labor laws and not being allowed to say "Irish Need Not Apply" is kinda a good thing.

Take back our country, indeed. Take it back to what, exactly?

Dick Armey is Mr. Tea Party himself, the original organizer of the astroturfing campaign against "Obamacare."
He is also a shrewd, though utterly corrupt and cynical, operator. It is alarming that he thinks the Rand Paul meme will pay off.

If Baby Doc (thanks Cato) comes back out and meets the press again, the next round of questions should include his 2008 statement that the United States is "not threatened by Iran having one nuclear weapon."

There is so much there there, he's going to have a tough time of it.

This is just going to make it all the more amusing when the movement inevitably collapses under its own insanity.

NJ's Tea Party has been pushing that recall petition for months now. The Appellate Division had ruled back in March that a recall petition could move forward, although I think it will end up failing in a state that is mostly registered Independent but votes leaning D even despite Christie's win for the GOP.

It was the Appellate Division's decision, not Paul's Senate win out of the state that gives this recall any momentum despite what the Star Ledger's reporting would indicate.

And the recall would come to a grinding halt if the NJ Supreme Court reversed the Appellate Division, or if the case was appealed to the US Supreme Court since the US Constitution has no recall provision, but NJ's Constitution allows for recall of state officials. Since the State Constitution spells out that a state official can be recalled, I suspect the Appellate Division will uphold the decision.

As a resident of NJ, I can say that I have no problem with the recall going forward since that is an acceptable option under state law. I don't like Menendez and don't think he's done much of anything for the state in his time in office, but is that sufficient for a recall? Vote him out when his term is due. He hasn't done anything to rate a recall before then. Moreover, letting him run out his term gives the state GOP another plank to run against the Democrats when Menendez's term is up.

Rand Paul represents the point where the Right has gone too far in its pursuit of ideological purity - pure enough to scare off a majority of voters, even folks who are conservatively inclined.

The Left sees this as a good opportunity to get the message out: vote for these people at your own risk!

void RndPaul(STRING sIssue) - it's a new function that returns absolutely nothing of substance, but randomly activates a different set of idiots depending on the context.

Usage:

RndPaul("Civil Rights") - causes people like Mitch McConnell who worked for one of the key figures in the Civil Rights legislation to ignore his values and 'reserve judgement' on RndPaul's criticism of that legislation.

RndPaul("Media") - activates the Sarah Palins to claim RndPaul is just a victim of that {{lesbian}} gotcha reporter who tried to trick him with a yes or no question on Civil Rights. Also activates the Limbaughs and Dick Armeys of the world to bloviate senselessly.

RndPaul("General Election") - this argument actually has the potential to cause the RndPaul function to return an actual value for Kentucky and the United States - Jack Conway.

I was listening to Mark Davis subbing in for Limbaugh (don't ask me why I was, I just was) and someone called in to piss and moan about Paul being pushed to go on national talk shows and "stoop to their level" by actually answering policy questions and discussing ideas with talking heads. As though actually having the strength of your convictions and, you know, the intelligence, to be able to articulate your policy ideas and defend them is stooping to the MSM's level. The horror. The caller actually wanted Paul to either only appear on friendly outlets or stay with local Kentucky media. Sound familar? I'm looking at you, Palin.

To his credit, Davis emphatically disagreed. In his (correct) view, you're only going to win elections by winning converts, and staying within the Fox News cocoon isn't going to help.
