Had a fantastic day out on The Lake in Central Park today with ice-ski.
It's a really beautiful environment to go boating in. I was amazed by how many turtles there are in the water. Anyone visiting Manhattan this summer needs to check it out - definitely one of the NY highlights.

PS : Overheard right now in New York: "Go back to Jersey!" Must be friday night again ;-)

There were just thousands of people at the track yesterday...It took me 2 hours to get in and I'm 20 minutes away. I'm not sure if it was 10000..20000..50000..or 100000 people at the stage area to see ZZtop..
It was a mass of humanity and at the point i realized now is the time to get the hell out...So I left before the concert..Got home in 20 minutes instead of 4 hours....I hear it was a great concert...

The GOP can't allow extremists to become its public face. Thanks ... Here's my take on the immigration issue. It's a two pronged approach.

1. Everyone who is here the day my new law passes and is not a criminal will not be deported. The final status is "TBD," but deportation will not be an option.

2. Seal the border by all means necessary so there is no new influx. Those who are here can help some family members immigrate to the US, but future "illegal entry" will not be tolerated.

Doing this is the only humane and reasonable approach that I have heard.

So you think that there are no hospitals that are not government owned and that are not publicly traded? Interesting.

HCA, Manor Care, Vanguard Health, and Ardent Health Services are all privately owned, non-publicly traded healthcare companies. Between them they own and operate 250+ hospitals in the US. There are of course many more, but those are just the largest ones I could find. And, of course, virtually every private medical practice is also not government owned and not publicly traded.

This is, of course, merely tangential to the overall point of whether a private business should be allowed to deny service based on race or gender. But I'm glad to have helped with your education.

Two Norfolk teachers put on leave over material about police

Two Norview High School teachers were placed on paid administrative leave this week after a parent complained that they distributed classroom materials that gave advice on how to deal with police if stopped.

The materials - a one-page handout and a video distributed and aired in a 12th-grade government class - are sponsored by two organizations, one a nonprofit that supports legalization of marijuana and one that calls itself a "decentralized anarchist collective."

The last paragraph of the flier, titled "When Dealing with Police" states, "Remember You have legal rights, but many police will not respect your rights. Be careful - Be Street Smart."

Schools spokeswoman Elizabeth Thiel Mather said division leaders are investigating the incident over concerns that the materials were unauthorized.

The parent, who asked not to be named out of fear that her daughter could be ostracized or get a lower class grade, told The Pilot that she contacted the division and police after her daughter described the leaflet and video.

What kind of fucked up parent contacts the police because their kids were shown a video of their rights when dealing with cops? Maybe CPS should take a look in her house and lets see how she deals with them.

And just then this really cute girl walking by stopped and said she was going there and we walked to Cheers and had a great conversation with her.. I love Boston...

SF is crazy .... the west coast version of Boston. (LA is the west coast version of NY). SF is insane and the fog can make things rough. I love SF the way you love Boston.

Back when I was in Boston I won a bid to install the Closed Circuit TV system into the "new" private suites in the old Boston Garden. One day when we were working the the C's were practicing. It was Ainges rookie year. We took a break while they scrimmaged and went down and watched. Ainge and Bird are on the same side. Ainge inbounds the ball to Bird under the basket. Bird dribbles the length of the court into one corner, dribbles around the 3 piont arc all the way over to the other corner, shoots a 3 and misses, turns to Ainge and yells "Fuckin Danny, give me a better pass next time and I'll make that shot"

I'm sorry if I seem to harp excessively on this oil spill, I'm trying to restrain myself, but according to what the Roi said, Carville here is spot on about the administration "going along with BP", though honestly, I don't know that they have a choice, the administration has no drilling experience and must, like the rest of us, rely on what BP is telling us.

It's the Roi's opinion (not a proven fact, but his opinion) that BP knew full well this top kill procedure wasn't going to work, because as long as mud is flowing out through the leaking areas, there is no way they can get enough pressure in there to push the oil into place. In other words, he thinks (his OPINION again) that BP is lying to everybody, trying to put their best face forward.

On this "moratorium" - he said the rig he's on has been unable for 3 days to contact MMS, and so they are simply proceeding forward with this job. Nobody's in the office to answer questions, and you'd think, with an order like this moratorium, somebody would be there to give people direction. I guess the rig at this point figures it's better to ask forgiveness later, and all that. What will happen to us after this job is done is anybody's guess, but for now, they're moving along.

What I'm getting from this is that the gov't agencies dealing with this are in a state of mass confusion right now, and that may be the reason why Carville and Matthews perceive that no one's in charge.

And that's what I can't stand. Before digging started, engineers should have been sitting around a table saying, "ok, what are we going to do if X happens?" I think it served as a useful bridge from a full-on prohibition to a full-on permission to serve. Gradual change is often the only way to proceed in social and societal matters, especially on one that had been so deeply felt at the time. DADT allowed people to at least get used to the idea of homosexuals serving honorably, if covertly, in the forces, in preparation for their eventual open service.

I wish someone had filmed my band last summer when we played at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. We had probably 50 people (of all ages, races, sizes and genders) line dancing to "Booty Call." It was surreal and awesome.

I wish someone had filmed my band last summer when we played at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. We had probably 50 people (of all ages, races, sizes and genders) line dancing to "Booty Call." It was surreal and awesome.

I am so jealous of your skilz! I have only one shinning moment in my short music career.. I was in a high school rock band and played a pizza joint one night..We played the boogie child'n version of Hooker and Canned Heat from the double live album...And Mad..There were people on tables dancing and it brought the house down... Our shinning moment in the sun...I just will never forget that magic..

Nobody on this board has been arguing that. The argument has always been whether the CRA and similar laws are right to forbid private businesses from discriminating based on race. In other words, whether or not the local diner has the right, as a private business, to put up that 'Whites Only' sign. I didn't know who see was but was just freaking blown away..I couldn't figure out why this College radio station was playing this voice from the 30's.. I was blown away at her tone...Then to find out it was Amy..Wow!

I did a restaurant job in Texas for a fast food joint. When they set the footers the concrete company, an entirely Mexican/S. American crew of about 20 guys, picked up shovels and started digging. That's part of the reason I'm pro-amnesty. Anyone willing to work that hard needs to be here.
