Report: Israeli Navy Intercepts ‘Rachel Corrie’

Middle East • Views: 3,947

The Jerusalem Post has a report that the next ship full of peace activists trying to run Israel’s blockade on Gaza, the Rachel Corrie, has been intercepted and “taken” by the Israeli navy.

The website of the Malaysian NGO which is co-sponsoring the Rachel Corrie, reports that the ship was taken by the navy at about 5:50 am on Saturday morning.

Israel denied them their propaganda video of the ship near the gaza shore. They got em out in the open sea …. good job.

it would be nice if the Jews could deliver the wheelchairs and toys to the border so people can see how it works

Twitter feeds have conflicting report.

FreeGaza updated that they were getting “confusing reports” from the ship, and to bear with them while they waited.

Another twitter post said AlJazeera correspondent on the ship updated that it has NOT been taken.

Possibly JPost prematurely jumping the gun by listening to twitter?

based on what I got from twitter, it looked to be about 35 miles from land. too far away for good video of the ship near the “teeming, desperate refugees” on shore. Vintage stuff.

In the first flotilla of 6 ships, did not 5 of them peacefully agree to go with the Israeli Navy to port?

What I’m getting at of course is that not everyone is going to be a group of thugs lying in wait to ambush IDF members.

The only ship at sea I see plotted is around 35 or so miles off of Hafia and is a large freighter the Besire Kalkavan. So guess there is no station ashore farther south that is on line. Unfortunately the MarineTraffic site seams to depend on amateurs having a receiver and an internet connection. Thus has many places without coverage.
I am located in SE Alaska and I do not see anything anywhere near though I overlook an active marine waterway where many vessels pass. I am not set up with a receiver or proper internet connection to be able to show the traffic here.

Read somewhere earlier that supposedly the crew/activists have made a deal with the Israelis, namely that the ship will submit to inspection at sea, in exchange for being allowed to go straight to port in Gaza.

If true, it should make for an interesting time. Will it be counted as a successful “breach”?

Activists say Israel navy boarded Gaza bound aid ship ‘Rachel Corrie’

Cyprus-based Free Gaza group uses Twitter website to announce that troops from three three Israeli naval boats boarded peacefully, with no struggle or injuries.

Israel early on Saturday morning intercepted a Gaza-bound aid ship was just a few dozen miles from the blockaded Palestinian territory, activists said.

The Cyprus-based Free Gaza group used micro-blogging website Twitter to announce that troops from three three Israeli naval boats, which had been tailing the ship, had boarded peacefully at 5:50 A.M. Israel time, with no struggle or injuries.

Another drilling blowout:
Marcellus Shale Gas Well Rupture Controlled After 16 Hours

Fortunately no one was injured. Yet we are reminded once again that drilling is by nature a dangerous business.

Speaking of business:
Employment Situation Summary

Total nonfarm payroll employment grew by 431,000 in May, reflecting the hiring of 411,000 temporary employees to work on Census 2010, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Private-sector employment changed little (+41,000). Manufacturing, temporary help services, and mining added jobs, while construction employment declined. The unemployment rate edged down to 9.7 percent.

The number of unemployed persons was 15.0 million in May. The unemployment rate edged down to 9.7 percent, the same rate as in thefirst 3 months of 2010.

Adam Shapiro?

Links, Cato? Please?

Adam Shapiro, the epitome of the self-hating Jew.

Quote from Wiki:

In a May 2002 CNN interview Paula Zahn asked Shapiro about an article in which he wrote: “Palestinian resistance must take on a variety of characteristics, both violent and nonviolent. But most importantly, it must develop a strategy involving both aspects. Nonviolent resistance is no less noble than carrying out a suicide operation.” According to Zahn, Shapiro’s writings could bring some people “to the conclusion that you were promoting suicide bombing.” Shaprio responded: “You have to deal with the reality on the ground. The reality on the ground is that Palestinians are living in a context of extreme violence. The occupation itself is violence.” [emphases mine]

Funnist? At the homeschool group meeting (4 hours, made better only by food) we decided that the Fun Club (so named because ‘Youngest Group’ was deemed asking for trouble), shouldn’t be the only group with a name. Then someone suggested the Funner Club and the Funnest Club.

Oh, yeah, that won’t cause problems. We’re going to ask them to pick an animal.

I think they put it in quotes because of this:

It is unclear whether Israeli forces have boarded the vessel or if they are just tracking from a distance.

Good question. The proper term would have been “interdict” as “interdiction” is the standard military term, is it not?

proper is whatever gets printed, the MSM has no obligation to be truthful, quite the opposite

It would tickle the hell out of me, if Palestine came to realize who their enemies really were, and got on with their lives. And let all those countries, who are willing to support terror-aid, accept immigrants from palestine.

re: #142 alexknyc

I’ve never heard that story. Do you have a link I can read?

It ain’t that hard to find. It’s in her wikipedia article, her parents wrote:

“Trying to use this picture to somehow indicate that Rachel deserved to be run over by a bulldozer is an appalling act of demonization that infers that forms of protest which include flag burning are capital offences. In the words of Rachel’s parents: ‘The act, while we may disagree with it, must be put into context. Rachel was partaking in a demonstration in Gaza opposing the War on Iraq. She was working with children who drew two pictures, one of the American flag, and one of the Israeli flag, for burning. Rachel said that she could not bring herself to burn the picture of the Israeli flag with the Star of David on it, but under such circumstances, in protest over a drive towards war and her government’s foreign policy that was responsible for much of the devastation that she was witness to in Gaza, she felt it OK to burn the picture of her own flag. “

She was a complex human being, at worst she strove to be the anti-ugly-American and aimed too high. At least she knew enough not to fuck with her host country’s flag, which speaks to some level of acumen. I regret her death as a matter of basic decency.

We’re free to mock her motivations. Stupid is stupid.

Here, I’m mocking Rachel Corrie:

Journal entry, March 13, 2003:

Well, Adam finally noticed me today!!!1! He looked me right in the eye! He was the whole reason I came here. Someone like him, who can give up his heritage and his conscience for hot Palestinian ass, is exactly the man I’ve always dreamed of!!! I mean, I had it easy: my parents hated themselves and taught me to hate them when I was still chasing butterflies. But Adddammm! Now if only he would call on me when I raise my hand…

March 15, 2003: SWOOON!!! Adam asked to talk to me in private. I was, like, sooo sweaty, I thought he would reject me because my hijab was all awry, but he took me into the corner…and…well, all I can say is, he’s given me a special mission. One he entrusts only to meee!!! I think it may have to do with the commitment I showed when I burned that fucking flag the other day. But, honest, I would do anything…fuck the flag…I’m going to go be by myself for a while now, IYKWIMAITTYD. LOL!

March 16, 2003: See press release.

I don’t think she was thinking about the host country. I think it was the symbol.

Rachel Corrie probably wanted to help stop violence, and standing in front of a bulldozer seemed, in her mind, to be the best way. I am sorry that she didn’t feel she could teach the values and methods that work so very well in her american culture to the people in Gaza. I am sure she would not recommend that anyone stand in the way of a Swat Team bulldozer as it demolished a crack house in Olympia Washington. I am sure she would not suggest that the best way to stop a drive by shooting in East LA is to kneel in front of a police car.

Iranian leaders accuse dissidents of betraying Islamic revolution

Iran’s leaders warned political dissidents Friday that they have strayed from the Islamic Republic’s path, the latest threats in a purge of politicians who once followed the Islamic revolutionary leadership but who are now aligned with the country’s vocal opposition.

In key speeches, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, also condemned Israel’s deadly raid early Monday on a pro-Palestinian aid flotilla bound for the Gaza Strip. Khamenei predicted the end of the Jewish nation, telling millions of worshipers that Israel is “falling into the valley of death” because of strategic blunders.

Evening. (morning here)

All this insight into personal motivations is interesting, but being the practical person I am, I am still interested to know what Israel is going to do with all these floating ships that seem to have no other work than renting out to moonbats?

Are they going to just let a crew fly in and sail them out? Will the crews have to apply for visas? Will they charge docking fees? Towing fees? Will they bug them from stem to stern? Could they break down out of port and have to call for help?

I think there could be a lot of fun and profit in this.

301 SanFranciscoZionist  Fri, Jun 4, 2010 9:43:15pm

re: #23 freetoken

In the first flotilla of 6 ships, did not 5 of them peacefully agree to go with the Israeli Navy to port?

What I’m getting at of course is that not everyone is going to be a group of thugs lying in wait to ambush IDF members.

This is the usual type, I believe, they’ll sit down and sing when boarded.

Good for them, relatively speaking.

Hopefully no one will do a Larudee and leap overboard this time.

I totally just had the He’Brew Rejewvinator 2009 ON TAP. Feel that! YEAH!

Confident words, but I still expected the Rejewvenator to be a flavor car wreck: sweet and savory should play separately, right? With my first taste of the sienna-tinted mash-up, I was pleased to be wrong. The nicely bubbled doppelbock-Belgian dubbel hybrid tastes of dark brown sugars and sun-baked raisins, of mouth-coating malt and ripe fruit, with a snappish finish that sends the deceptively strong (7.8 percent ABV) elixir sailing into my stomach.

If anything, that would make the final snag so much sweeter, than they got so close to Gaza, then have the Israelis swoop in and haul their asses off for deportation.

I can hear the teeth grinding of the anti-Israel crowd now as they try and fail utterly to find any reason why it’s “illegal” for Israel to stop and detain foreign-flagged ships intruding into their waters.

My favorite home brew, I was at a furry con and a friend of mine brewed a 12 pack of an insane heavy IPA and brought it to a room party, where everyone besides me and one other guy took a sip and were horrified. He estimated it was 12% abv.

First bottle tasted sorta like pinecones mixed with whiskey.

Second bottle tasted aggressive and yet…compelling. like you wanted a third.

Third bottle tasted like you wanted a sixth.

I don’t remember anything after the third bottle.

Obviously Cato confused “Talk Like An Israeli Pirate Day” with “Talk Like An Israeli Yoda Day”.

Arrgh, mateys!

Kick rocks asshole. You don’t walk into someones house and give them shit for their House Rules.

Or at least be creative about it. Charles put a lot of hard work into these pages we now have. You can post images, put in some videos… but this? *sigh* We Americans just don’t put effort into anything anymore.

So a couple of days ago a popular newspaper here said “Israel has displaced North Korea as the world’s foremost rogue state” and added that “at least South Korea isn’t pursuing further sanctions to strangle North Korea even more.”

Uh, no. That’s not the solution. I’m really on the brink of just banning anyone who makes one of those ugly “St. Pancake” jokes.

I’m sick and tired of having my name smeared for this, when I have always made it clear I don’t approve of it and don’t participate in it.

Rachel Corrie was a sad, deluded, naive person who bought a line of bullshit from the ISM and other far leftists, and got herself killed for it. And the effort to make her into a sort of Western “martyr” didn’t pan out. It’s extremely bad form to continue making fun of her death, years and years later.

Just don’t do it, and I won’t have to ban anyone.

Agreed, my mistake to make a quip on that subject, moderation is a difficult task. I personally never participated in or approved of the Rachel Corrie jokes.

Do President Obama’s Principles Only apply to America?
Its all about Leadership. Say what you want, but Since WWII the United States has been the moral compass of the world. While the UN became a corrupt haven where rights abusers passed international law, the US stood by its principles and demanded more from the world community. President Obama has stood by his principles more or less with domestic policy, but seems to have abanoned them in the international area, with devastating consequences. This can be seen with the currend events with the Gaza Flotilla.
