But the Israeli commando knife has a very pronounced hilt.

Anything to cover for the violence of the terrorist thugs. Disgusting. Even with an avalanche of video documentation they still lie and spin. What is remarkable, considering the large violent mob, is that the Israelis showed so much discipline in shooting so few of them.

Clearly the Israelis used the minimum force necessary to rescue the hostages and stop the attacks, and even did not open fire until they were fired upon and two Israelis wounded by gunfire. Yet they will still be vilified by the Jew haters and the vile media.

Well, you know. Good camping knife.

Greetings all. We had quite a day at Israel in the Gardens. Bay Area Women in Black got a parade permit for the sidewalk in front of the event. No one knew you could do that until they did that.

I would like to comment that they had a new version of the Israeli flag, which I like much better than the one where the star is replaced by a swastika. In this one, the star is replaced by a blue skull and crossbones between the stripes.

It went with a sign saying "Piracy Is Not A Jewish Value", and was supposed to be an insult, but I quite liked it. I must find out where I can get one.

I am not a fan of soup really, but that stuff is the bomb.

A bit more on that, taken from wikipedia:

In Spain and Latin America, meatballs are called "albóndigas", derived from the Arabic 'al-bunduq' (meaning 'hazelnut,' or, by extension, a small round object). Albóndigas are thought to have originated as a Berber or Arab dish imported to Spain during the period of Muslim rule. Spanish albóndigas can be served as an appetizer or main course, often in a tomato sauce, while Mexican albóndigas are commonly served in a soup with a light broth and vegetables.

O'Keefe described the seizure of the soldiers, "I took one of their guns, and another activist grabbed him. He had a 9mm gun. We didn’t use the weapons against the Israeli soldiers. I unloaded the magazine and took out the bullets – we didn’t come here to fight," he said.

you can clearly see they didn't come for a fight from the scene on the roof. As they were swinging their peace pipes, which have deep cultural meanings of friendship and mutual respect, the brutal Israeli soldiers kept violently crashing into their pipes.

It's nearly impossible to reason with a Leftist fundamentalist. They're also prone to moving the goal posts like many adherents of a particular ideological faith. In this case they have the photos and then move the goal posts regarding the origins of the knife. They are read the law regarding the blockade and told the legality of Israels blockade then they move the goal post to saying the militants on the Mavi Marmara had a right, allegedly, to attack the IDF boarding party.

They were using the pistols they took off of the beaten marines to fire on the rest of the boarding party. The Israelis had sidearms but went in with these holstered. Two of the Israelis were shot and the team was under fire when the Sgt arrived and took over, seeing both of his commanders lying wounded on the deck. As they were under fire, he returned fire killing six of the attackers and his men killed another 3.

These guys are highly skilled marksmen trained to deal with hostage situations, it is highly unlikely they shot anyone who wasn't attacking them.

Saying that Israel does not have the right to blockade Gaza is crazy. It is controlled by a terrorist group at war with Israel, and fires thousands of rockets at Israeli town. A blockade is unquestionably legal. The US and others board ships in international waters all the time. International Law, whatever that is, is used as a weapon against Israel and is meaningless.

Israeli patrol kills four militants in diving gear

From Haaretz:

Four bodies were retrieved and taken to a hospital in central Gaza, said Moawiya Hassanain, a Palestinian health official. Two of the dead had suffered multiple gunshots to the head, Hassanain said.

Other Palestinian sources told Haaretz that the miltants were members of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, an extremist offshoot of the Fatah faction led by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The militants were training for a rare attempt at a seaborne attack on Israel when they encountered israeli forces, the sources said.

re: #85 Bagua

Saying that Israel does not have the right to blockade Gaza is crazy. It is controlled by a terrorist group at war with Israel, and fires thousands of rockets at Israeli town. A blockade is unquestionably legal. The US and others board ships in international waters all the time. International Law, whatever that is, is used as a weapon against Israel and is meaningless.

You're conflating a lot of things in your answer. It's false that the blockade is "unquestionably legal". Read the links on my post. Whether it is "meaningless" is another thing, and I'm inclined to agree in this case. But International Law is what it is, and it can only be used as a weapon if countries violate it.

Anybody living under the illusion that Fatah is "good" is deluding themselves. Fatah and Hamas are two heads on the same Hydra, whose goal, expressed or secretive, is the destruction of Israel and the pushing of the remaining Jews into the sea. The only way they look "good" is by comparison to Hamas, who are open with their desire to see Israel wiped off the face of the Earth. But it wasn't too long ago that Fatah was the headlining act and we were damning them in very explicit terms.

Aboard the Mavi Marmara, the commandos first responded to the violence with crowd dispersion measures, and after almost an hour of scuffles, during which a number of soldiers were wounded – some of them stabbed or shot – the commandos were given permission to use live fire. At one point, activists succeeded in stealing a handgun from one of the soldiers, leading to an escalation in violence.
Link

So for nearly an hour after those marines were beaten with iron bars, stabbed and shot at, the Israelis held fire and responded with only crowd control measures. Only after two marines were shot and they were under fire did the order come to use lethal force.

Good lord, any American Police Officer would open fire immediately when attacked with pipes and knives. The Israelis showed amazing restraint and courage.

So file a complaint with the UN, you will certainly be in good company there. I could care less about alleged "International Law", which is primary used as a weapon against Israel. Every state acts in its own defence when attacked. Israel is attacked. End of discussion.

Israel certainly has and ironclad claim to inspect vessels right of its shore supplying an enemy that fires mortars and rocket at it. These are just arguments to deligitimise Israel for acting in self defence. Same as always.

Nontroversy.

re: #103 Gus 802

One ship will carry donations made by the people and the other will carry relief workers. The ships will be sent to Gaza by end of this week,” Iranian Red Crescent director Abdolrauf Adibzadeh told the IRNA news agency.

On Sunday, a representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards are ready to provide a military escort to cargo ships trying to break Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.

"Iran's Revolutionary Guards naval forces are fully prepared to escort the peace and freedom convoys to Gaza with all their powers and capabilities," Ali Shirazi, Khamenei's representative inside the Revolutionary Guards, was quoted as saying by the semi-official Mehr news agency.

Israel Navy commandos last Monday killed nine activists in clashes on board the Turkish-flagged Mavi Marmara in a convoy trying to deliver aid to Gaza. The incident sparked international outrage, especially in Muslim countries and in Turkey, which threatened to cut its long-standing ties with Israel.

Israeli troops boarded another ship on Saturday and pro-Palestinian activists have promised more as they challenge the blockade imposed four years ago with the stated aim of stopping arms getting to Hamas.

Uh... Relief workers from Iran?

Of course the aim is to open a sea route for Iran to supply Hamas with missiles and advanced weaponry. Their game is to attack Israel military through their proxies Hezballah and Hamas. That is the goal of the blockade running.

Though they will certainly enjoy the chance to create another blood libel and shift attention to Israel, and away from their nuclear and missile programs. After all, at a time when the world should be focusing on stopping the Iranian nuclear program and Israel should be preparing to act, they instead change the focus to the Israelis, and Israel must put all its energy into this harassment.

You bet. And this whole act is to delegitimize Israel. Now if one were to listen to these people claiming the blockade is illegal according to them they would have to allow Iranian naval vessels with within 12 nautical miles from the Israeli shore. Which would be they territorial boundary.

As far as I can tell this harassment for the unforeseeable future.

The force threw several stun grenades, but the violent attacks continued. Two soldiers were wounded, and some of the activists succeeded in stealing one of their guns. Shots were fired, and one of the soldiers fell to the ground, unconscious. Fearing for their lives, the soldiers asked and received permission to open fire, first taking aim at the activists’ feet.

In one corner of the ship, the commandos saw a gun flash. They returned fire and started chasing the shooter, but could not find him.

...

“The soldiers acted with the utmost nobility,” said one police source close to the Yamam. “They engaged in hand-to-hand combat, sustained injuries, but only opened fire after one of them was lying on the ground unconscious and two others had been shot. This was an unbelievable demonstration of restraint.”
Jpost

It took amazing discipline to not use their pistols against the violence we saw on the videos.

This is how The Independent spins against Israel.

The peaceful takeover came after massive international pressure on the Israeli government following the military-led action on the aid flotilla.

Armed commandos stormed several aid vessels trying to reach the territory last Monday - leaving nine pro-Palestinian activists dead.

So the commandos "stormed" into a lynch mob with paint guns. Not a word of the savage attacks on the Israelis. And implying that the "peaceful takeover" came about because of "International pressure on the Israeli government", rather than the real reason it was peaceful, there was no mob of mercenaries attacking the Israelis with iron pipes and knives.

Hooray folks. Anther victory for the "International" efforts to tame those brutal Joos. The brave media doing their part in the war against Israel.

ON THE high seas, outside territorial waters, the ship was stopped by the navy. The commandos stormed it. Hundreds of people on the deck resisted, the soldiers used force. Some of the passengers were killed, scores injured. The ship was brought into harbor, the passengers were taken off by force. The world saw them walking on the quay, men and women, young and old, all of them worn out, one after another, each being marched between two soldiers...

The ship was called "Exodus 1947". It left France in the hope of breaking the British blockade, which was imposed to prevent ships loaded with Holocaust survivors from reaching the shores of Palestine. If it had been allowed to reach the country, the illegal immigrants would have come ashore and the British would have sent them to detention camps in Cyprus, as they had done before. Nobody would have taken any notice of the episode for more than two days.

But of course. Iran can't be held responsible for pursuing nukes, because they're just seeking to counter Israel's nukes. If Israel finally declared she has nukes, agrees to inspections, and pursues disarmament, well then all of the Middle East will give up their nuclear ambitions. After all, no nation wants nukes, they simply seek them as protection from nations that already have them.

Taliban dismiss Afghan peace meet before it starts

The Associated Press
Monday, June 7, 2010 %P% 12:23 a.m.

The Taliban dismissed a national peace conference in Afghanistan even before its Wednesday opening, threatening death to the 1,600 delegates in cassette messages distributed by the insurgent leadership.

The three-day meeting in a giant tent at Kabul Polytechnic University was to discuss how to reconcile with the fighters _ even as the U.S. rushes in more troops to ramp up the nearly nine-year war. But the meeting could also open fissures in a society deeply divided after decades of conflict.

President Hamid Karzai will use the conference, known as a "peace jirga," to seek endorsement of his plan to offer economic incentives to Taliban and other insurgent fighters willing to leave the battlefield.

Guess that drum circle ain't gonna work.

IAF Targets Rocket Launching Squad in Northern Gaza Strip, 7 June 2010

The IAF recently targeted a terrorist squad preparing to fire rockets into Israel from the northern Gaza Strip. Direct hits were identified.

Over 10 rockets and mortars were fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel in the last three weeks.

The IDF remains committed to protecting the citizens of Israel and will continue to act against terror. The IDF holds Hamas solely responsible for terror emanating from the Gaza Strip.

Israel must send Turkey a clear message that if Turkish warships are sent to accompany the next flotilla trying to break the embargo on Gaza, these will be considered acts of war by Israel , Uzi Dayan, former deputy Chief of General Staff, told Army Radio Monday morning.

"If the Turkish Prime Minister joins such a flotilla,” Dayan said, “we should make clear beforehand this would be an act of war, and we would not try to take over the ship he was on, but would sink it.”

“If Israel doesn't make this clear beforehand, the Turks will grow increasingly self-assured, and we may indeed find ourselves facing such a scenario, which could have been averted.”

Uzi Dayan attacked a letter sent by Navy veterans calling for a commission of inquiry as confused and irresponsible.

Fucking aye.

The Daily Telegraph has just arrived on the doormat. Time to break off and peruse all the dismal news....

151 Bagua  Mon, Jun 7, 2010 2:17:56am

So, the "peace activists" are trying to open up and un-inspected, direct route to a terrorist group that fired 10 rockets and mortars while they were sailing. And nope, they can't accept offers to have the cargo inspected and delivered, they have to break the blockade.

Meanwhile

Foreign Secretary William Hague called on Israel to agree to a "credible and transparent" investigation into the deadly raid on an aid flotilla as activists whose ship was blocked from delivering relief supplies to Gaza returned home today.

Speaking alongside French foreign minister Bernard Kouchner, Mr Hague said there should be an "international presence at minimum" in an inquiry into the deaths of nine activists on a Turkish aid ship taken over by Israeli commandos last Monday.

So France and the UK want an inquiry into the tragic deaths of murderous thugs, but say nothing of mortar attacks from the terrorists those thugs are allied with.

Two other articles on that vile rag feature:

Queen Rania of Jordan attacks Israel over Gaza

Queen Rania of Jordan calls today for an end to the Israeli blockade that has turned Gaza into a "barely functioning, open-air prison." The human rights campaigner and wife of King Abdullah II says in an article for The Independent that "humanity remains under siege" for every day that the blockade continues

So the wife of a dictator in an impoverished police state only marginally better than Syria, a place where the population has far less rights and protection than the Arabs of Israel, a place where Jews are forbidden from owning property, is described as a human rights campaigner and has the nerve to criticise Israel?

She criticises the Israeli operation against the flotilla for its "blatant and absurd disregard" for international law and human rights that "appalled our global community."[of dictators and antiSemites]

"Although, I was stunned at the glaring outrageousness of the attack, I am not surprised by it," she writes. "By its very nature, hard-line ideology is self-serving and self-perpetuating, its primary goal is to survive – and that precludes everything."

How stubborn and uncooperative for those Jews to want to survive. Why don't they give up and let us kill them all?

She also criticises Israel for defending its actions. She writes: "Assigning themselves authority and immunity, Israel's leaders feel licensed to do whatever they like and not expect an international outcry."

So the wife of a brutal dictator can lecture a democracy with far more protections and rights than her little police state, and The Independent has not a word to say to the contrary, in fact, features this tripe.

Business as usual from the internationalist bullshit artists.

153 Bagua  Mon, Jun 7, 2010 2:43:56am

What a brave new world we live in.

Thugs and terrorists are "peace activists."

The Israeli boarding party was savagely attacked but it is they who "stormed" the ship in a "deadly assault".

Dictators who rule police states are "human rights campaigners", who focus only on imaginary things in Israel and say nothing of the brutality and poverty of their own nation where the "palestinian" population is under the gun and not allowed the freedoms they have in Israel.

Pesky Jews are condemned for having a goal to survive and are vilified for having the gall to fight back when attacked with metal pipes, knives and guns.

Meanwhile, not a peep is heard about the ongoing rocket and mortar attacks on Israeli civilians.

That had to be the one thing, more than anything else, that pissed me off about the Left's demands that the White House join in the chorus of automatic condemnations: The suggestion that we, a people who consider ourselves a nation of laws and a beacon of freedom and liberty, should stand shoulder to shoulder with the world's worst human rights violators and dictators in condemning a fellow democracy.

Not only is it insulting to our allies, but it also speaks of a willful ignorance that burns hotter than the sun. That after decades of our own soldiers, in one conflict or another, being accused of the most horrific crimes and then being exonerated, that they would wish that we take the entire incident at face value and not wait for all the evidence to come in.

The term "useful idiot" doesn't even begin to describe the depths of stupidity that such people have driven themselves to. Even on the day they find themselves kneeling in the dirt, beaten and bloody, about to have their head lopped off for the crime of being an infidel, they'll curse people like you and I for not having thrown Israel to the wolves sooner.

155 Gus  Mon, Jun 7, 2010 3:00:44am

The Arabs lost the war. Israel won. The Palestinians have Gaza and the Palestinian territories. They also get billions of free money from the international community without having so much to lift a finger. When the heck are they going to stop acting like savages with their terrorist parties such as Hamas and Fatah and settle down and move one with life.

They need to shut up and "get a job" and go back to work and accept their place in history which isn't quite so bad. If they ended their terrorism and missile and rocket attacks Israel would let them be and they would even be free to travel in Israel and practice their Bronze Age religion or even by gay as a three dollar bill in Israel. Which is more than anyone can say of your average Arab nation.

"Queen" Rania of Jordan: Hardliners are now the face of Israel

Speaking as a moderate, I fear if the tides don't turn in our region, moderation will be amongst the most painful casualties of continued aggression and hardline policies.

So dictators are now moderates? And this is published, unchallenged in a major UK newspaper?

What could possibly have been on the Freedom Flotilla that Israeli commandos attacked early last Sunday morning in international waters, in yet another assault that has appalled our global community?

She goes on to lie, slander and write propaganda unchallenged. Meanwhile the "palestinians" in her dictatorship have less rights and lower standard of living then those in Gaza and the West Bank.

This is the "Queen" of the same dictatorship that killed thousands of "palestinians" in Black September after which they expelled the PLO and thousands of her own people. Yet she talks glowingly of "King" Hussein who perpetuated this slaughter and saves her condemnation for Israel, which treats her own people better than her dictator husband.

What a joke aye? Just smoke more pot and order another latte while shaking your head up and down in agreement. Not a surprise though. This is a paper in the United Kingdom Dhimmidom. The rest of the Arab world could care less about the Palis. They just use them as pawns in their war against Israel.

Since 1952, the U.S.-Jordanian development partnership has been an important component of the relationship between the two countries. Committed to together developing Jordan into an oasis of stability and economic prosperity, USAID and the Government of Jordan have been cooperating together for the past five decades in a wide range of sectors – including water, agriculture, economic development, education, health, tourism, environment, and infrastructure. Total economic assistance devoted to these efforts since 1952 now exceeds $4.4 billion.

That's where the truth comes in: We're idiots. Seriously, think about it, how have we not been fulfilling the very definition of insanity, of repeating the same act over and over with the expectation of a different outcome? We spent the better part of the Cold War shoring up this dictator or those "freedom fighters," so long as they assured us that they were "US-friendly." All in some vain hope that, one day, the world would be grateful to us and liberty and freedom to reign supreme.

Compared to the Gulf spill? Yeah. That's nothing.

Oil leaks into the ocean already at a pretty substantial rate. I never worried that much about spills until this one. This one is a potential "never ending story".

The gulf one is a big deal. A hundred thousand gallons happens pretty often, I would guess.

An oil truck holds how many gallons? 10K?

Also, proof that humans are Cubic
forms that rotate a 4 corner face
lifetime, not an entity as the 4 corner
stage faces do not occur at the same
time for the 1 corner face individual.
There is absolute proof that Earth is
not an entity as Earth is composed of
2 opposite hemispheres (as in plus
and minus), that would cancel each
out if unified as an entity. There is
proof that all humans exist between
the 2 opposites of femininity and
masculinity, and would cancel each
other out if unified as academic or
religious "singularity" - equating to
stupidity and suicide for humanity.

You're conflating a lot of things in your answer. It's false that the blockade is "unquestionably legal". Read the links on my post. Whether it is "meaningless" is another thing, and I'm inclined to agree in this case. But International Law is what it is, and it can only be used as a weapon if countries violate it.

Not exactly true.

As you pointed out before, the lack of precedent and lack of clarity in International Law when dealing with these pseudo-state terrorist group makes international virtually useless.

Any Judge or Jury or Commission inclined to use the law as a bludgeon against Israel will use the "definition" of the conflict that best suits their needs, reality be damned.

It's a serious problem, and has repeatedly contributed to Israel's being condemned and attacked by international bodies and in pseudo-legal terms.

Not exactly true.

In both the Ha'aretz and JPost interviews with the commandos themselves, both admitted they opened fire within the first 2 minutes. (1 commando said 20 second, the other 1min30sec). Both said they only opened fire when of the mercenaries pointed a gun at another commandos head.

New oil plume evidence uncovered

St. Petersburg, Florida (CNN) -- As if the pictures of birds, fish and animals killed by floating oil in the Gulf of Mexico are not disturbing enough, scientists now say they have found evidence of another danger lurking underwater.

The University of South Florida recently discovered a second oil plume in the northeastern Gulf. The first plume was found by Mississippi universities in early May.

USF has concluded microscopic oil droplets are forming deep water oil plumes. After a weeklong analysis of water samples, USF scientists found more oil in deeper water.

"These hydrocarbons are from depth and not associated with sinking degraded oil but associated with the source of the Deep Horizon well head," said USF Chemical Oceanographer David Hollander.

Through isotopic or microscopic fingerprinting, Hollander and his USF crew were able to show the oil in the plume came from BP's blown-out oil well. The surface oil's so-called fingerprint matched the tiny underwater droplet's fingerprint.

"We've taken molecular isotopic approaches which is like a fingerprint on a smoking gun," Hollander said.

BP has not commented on the latest development but in the past denied underwater oil plumes exist.

"The oil is on the surface," said BP's Chief Executive Officer Tony Hayward. "There aren't any plumes."

Yet BP's Managing Director Bob Dudley said recently, "We're all absolutely taking these ideas seriously and looking at them."

Scientists on board the university's research vessel Weatherbird II were not able to find the dissolved hydrocarbon or oil by sight. Instead the crew received sensor signatures from the equipment deployed into the water since the plumes appear to be clear.

USF is unsure on the exact size of the plumes.

"There are indications this is fairly wide spread," said the USF oceanographer. "There is probably more than one leg of this plume."

Scientist are concerned what effect the oil, not to mention the dissolvents used to break up the oil, will have on marine life.

Laboratory tests show bacteria have begun eating some elements of the dissolved hydrocarbons. But the effect on fish "is what needs to be understood," said Hollander. "We are in uncharted territory."

Water samples collected by USF were sent to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration labs. NOAA has yet to comment on their conclusions.

NOAA and USF will hold a joint press conference Tuesday morning at the university's St. Petersburg campus to release their final findings.

LGF Uncovers New Reuters Faux-Pas

Little Green Footballs, the blog that first uncovered the Reuters fauxtography scandal during the second Lebanon war, again raises the red flag, pointing out that Reuters cropped out a knife held in the hand of a Mavi Marmara passenger. The image in question was first published today in the Turkish paper Hurriyet.

...........................

At Reuters, One Knife Restored, Another Cropped

After CAMERA contacted a Reuters editor about the cropped photograph in which the knife in the hand of a Mavi Marmara passenger was cut out, Reuters posted the full, uncropped image (seen below) to its site Reuters Pictures, from which clients purchase images.

In the meanwhile, Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs has uncovered a second Reuters image in which a knife and blood are cropped out.

...And there's more -- information from the Reuters Pictures Web site reveals that these images were IHH handouts, yet another indication that the following claim of an IHH official in the New York Times is a complete falsehood:

"Our volunteers were not trained military personnel," said Yavuv Dede, deputy director of the organization. "They were civilians trying to get aid to Gaza. There were artists, intellectuals and journalists among them. Such an offensive cannot be explained by any terms."

Looks like a lot of hits coming in from GeenStijl .

The site has been criticized for the xenophobic and extreme nature of the comments it allows readers to post. Anti-islamic and anti-immigrant comments are stimulated by the selection and the presentation of its topics. Both the editors and the readers of GeenStijl have invented a wide range of names to refer to immigrants to the Netherlands that are generally considered to be stereotypic and derisive. The blog aims to be a right-wing equivalent of the British tabloids, confirming the prejudice of its readers and thus provoking loads of comments.

May be some trolls coming aboard.

From Honest Reporting:

Special Analysis: Fauxtography - Reuters Caught Again

Eagle-eyed blogger Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs was responsible for exposing Reuters' Fauxtography during the 2006 Lebanon conflict. Examining photos of bloodied and battered Israeli naval commandos on board the Mavi Marnara, published by the Turkish press, Johnson has once again exposed Reuters' doctoring of photos.

...Photographer and image analyst David Katz is vastly experienced in the photographic process, from the initial capture of the image through selection, editing, correcting, caption sending, together with the newsroom processes that would leave an image ready to be viewed through the media. We asked him for his professional opinion:

My initial reaction was to avoid hasty accusations against Reuters as this was a fairly unique set of circumstances and one that I felt needed a bit more investigation before pointing fingers began.

My understanding was and still is that the images were taken by someone onboard the ship and deleted by the security services before being returned to the IHH activist who then had the images retrieved through special software in Turkey upon their return and then passed to the newspaper to help embarrass Israel even further.

It's not clear at this point whether Reuters took them as some kind of screen grab or were offered it in a more conventional way for distribution. What is clear, however, is the picture was obviously cropped. One could play Devil's advocate to say that it was not done intentionally - perhaps the knife was not spotted by the Reuters picture desk or someone may have innocently, through overwork or tiredness, just made a mistake. After all, the original images had not come from Reuters staff or freelance photographers but an activist on the ship with an agenda.

However once LGF highlighted the second image that was lightened and run through Photoshop, not only did this highlight the knife that was cropped out in the Reuters image, it also showed a seriously wounded soldier who had also been removed from the image to deliberately hide the true intentions of the terrorists.

It is crystal clear that someone at Reuters has deliberately hidden key parts of the original images. What we do not know at this stage is, who at Reuters did this and more importantly why?

Iran Red Crescent to send two aid ships to Gaza

TEHRAN — The Iranian Red Crescent has decided to send two aid ships to Gaza this week in the latest bid to break the blockade imposed on the Palestinian territory by Iran's regional archfoe Israel.

Red Crescent director for international affairs Abdolrauf Adibzadeh told the state IRNA news agency late on Sunday that the decision to send the ships was taken after a meeting with the foreign ministry.

"One ship will carry donations made by the people and the other will carry relief workers. The ships will be sent to Gaza by end of this week," Adibzadeh said.

He said the Red Crescent has called for Iranian volunteers to act as relief workers and accompany the vessels.

"Volunteers who want to go to Gaza and help the oppressed people of occupied Palestine can refer to the Red Crescent website and register," Adibzadeh said.

He said the initial plan was to send the ships through an intermediary country, but "based on a decision by the society, they will be sent directly." He added that the aid would consist of foodstuffs and medicines.

Iran Red Crescent to send two aid ships to Gaza

Michael Totten is convinced it's all bluster:

Yesterday, Ali Shirazi of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps said its naval forces “are fully prepared to escort the peace and freedom convoys to Gaza with all their powers and capabilities.” Never mind the cynical use of the words “freedom” and “peace” from a repressive regime that steals votes and cracks heads. Breaking a blockade by force is a declaration of war and could, in this case, easily and instantly spark a region-wide conflagration.

More likely than not, Iran is just posturing. Ever since Ruhollah Khomeini seized power in the 1979 revolution, the Iranian government has been waging a relentless campaign to win over Arab public opinion with apocalyptic anti-Zionism and support for anti-Israeli terrorist organizations. And last week it was upstaged by Turkey and its prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, when howling denunciations of Israel almost everywhere in the world followed the now-infamous battle aboard the Turkish Mavi Marmara vessel. Even the president of the United States says Israel’s blockade of Gaza is no longer sustainable, though at least he says it calmly. Not Iran, Syria, Hamas, or Hezbollah, but Turkey has been the toast of the Middle East’s radicals for a week now.

There's another difference that Totten doesn't take into account. Iran doesn't really have a navy to speak of that can actually project power beyond Iranian territorial waters. Turkey does - they have the means and the capabilities to give Israel all it can handle. Iran excels on asymmetrical warfare, but even here - Turkey's Erdogan has trumped Iran at its own game.

Syria hops on the bandwagon.

Syrian President Bashar Assad said Monday that Damascus would stand by "every decision" made by Turkey to see Israel lift its blockade of the Gaza Strip, declaring: "We are not just about condemnation, we are about actions."

At a joint press conference in Istanbul with Assad,Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his government was prepared to supply the Gaza Strip with "everything it needs", adding that Israel's blockade of the Hamas-ruled territory must end immediately.

Quite a long article, including this tidbit:

Israeli commander: If Erdogan sails to Gaza, he will be declaring war

According to a Lebanese report on Saturday, Erdogan is considering traveling to Gaza aboard a Turkish navy vessel accompanying a new attempt by protest boats to break Israel's maritime blockade.

A senior IDF commander said Monday Israel would view an attempt by Erdogan to sail to Gaza as an act of war.

"If he comes here with Turkish warships there can be no doubt that it would amount to a declaration of war," Major-Genral (Res.) Uzi Dayan told Army Radio.

"We need to draw a clear line and say that whoever crosses it will not be boarded but sunk."

That's a direct quote instead of the must more dramatic paraphrase of Uzi Dayan in my #341

Good points although I'd quibble with the "turkey has the means....to give israel all it can handle". The only thing that turkey would get out of any conflict with Israel is a bloody nose and the need to replace their sunken ships. There are only 5 actual "Professional" military forces and Turkey doesn't make the list.

Once is happenstance.
Twice is coincidence.
The third time is enemy action.
Reuters is at, what, >10?

Unbelievable. The guy's obviously holding a broken bottle, but Reuters cropped off the jagged end.

There's something really rotten going on here.

Hard for me to tell, but the bottle was not being held to provide welcoming refreshments for the Israeli's. It was either broken, or just ready to be tossed empty or full of flaming gasoline.

Someone on Red Eye (can't remember if it was Gutfeld or one of the panelists) this weekend, "Helen Thomas should go back to the center of the earth."

If I had to guess, it's the person who is sourcing the photos at Reuters from the IHH or their sources within the FGM groups. And given that the wire services have been repeatedly busted for this kind of nonsense, you'd think that they would have realized that these kinds of photo edits/croppings would be easily uncovered (precisely because the originals are accessible).

You'd have to be a moran (sic) to hold a petrol bomb like that.

Yeah, this is all very blatant. I haven't found the originals yet. They're out there somewhere.

I saw that movie..."Afternoon Delights" - late 70s porn vid may parents had stashed in their closet...got me through the eighth and ninth grades.

No photoshopping, but the text reads:

Blood is seen on steps onboard the Gaza-bound Turkish ship Mavi Marmara in the international waters of the Mediterranean Sea early May 31, 2010. Israeli marines stormed the Turkish aid ship bound for Gaza on Monday and nine pro-Palestinian activists were killed, triggering a diplomatic crisis and an emergency session of the U.N. Security Council. Picture taken May 31, 2010.

To me, that captioning is implying the blood came from the dead activists, whereas we've seen wounded Israelis being dragged along that stairwell. It makes no mention of the attack on the Israelis.

From the time when women (apparently) had no access to razor blades? Makes me shudder.

And sure enough, the wingnut blogs are all ignoring the story.

They'd rather miss the chance to help put pressure on Reuters, in one of the most egregious examples yet of photo trickery, than send any traffic to LGF.

Too true.

Kind of like BP and the NIH- Not Invented Here bias.

If they didn't come with the story, they'll be damned if they will give it legs.

That's also from the same series and on the same stairwell where they were abusing the hostages. It's obviously blood from the commandos but Reuters isn't going to tell their readers that.

Very good point - the bias isn't just in the photos and what may have been cropped out, but in the captions accompanying them.

Passengers from Seventh Flotilla Ship Disembark at Ashdod Port

Passengers from the 7th flotilla ship arrive at the Ashdod Port accompanied by the IDF Naval Special Forces. The ship had been boarded by the IDF forces and with full compliance of the crew, instructed the ship's captain to sail to the Ashdod port after it had attempted to break the maritime closure of the Gaza Strip.

Nineteen people were on board the boat, including eight crew members, all of whom will be transferred to the custody of the appropriate authorities in the Interior Ministry. The cargo found on board will be transferred to the Gaza Strip following security inspection.

re: #380 NJDhockeyfan

Interesting caption. Had I not seen the words "Star of David" in the caption, I would have thought it was a photo of a woman stepping on a crossed piece of wood laying over barbed wire so she didn't cut her feet.

I have no problem with being critical of such protesters. But I also have no problem being critical of news folk, either.

I can certainly see where the wood might have been a Star of David, but again, it looks like broken wood sitting on barbed wire.

Without a context (how did the star get broken, was it on a fence, did someone tear it down, etc.), the caption is misleading and incomplete.

Look, it's not like there aren't PLENTY of genuinely legitimate things to feel angry and outraged about (the Reuters issue we're discussing is a case in point). This one, to my eyes, isn't nearly as clear.
