Lakers-Celtics Open Thread
Lakers vs. Celtics. Need I say more? The greatest basketball teams in the history of the sport facing off yet again. Do I need to say that?
Four minutes left in the first quarter as I write, score tied at 16.

He's a good man. So was his mentor. Spurs are the good guys, that's why they get bad press from the sports shows - they're boring.

tech note-I was a bit distressed to see the new I phone edits HD video with a nearly free app. I guess it needs that since it generates video content in 720 HD. I was a bit distressed because editing HD video for consumers is part of the Studio11 growth plan.
Gotta credit Steve Jobs for seeing the huge gap between all that new HD content from all those new cameras and editing said content. HD editing is a challenge for all but the very top models even among Apple machines.

Why not? The Lakers left Minneapolis
Soon it was commonplace for entire teams to change cities in search of greater profits. The Minneapolis Lakers moved to Los Angeles where there are no lakes. The Oilers moved to Tennessee where there is no oil. The Jazz moved to Salt Lake City where they don't allow music.

Up by 12 at the half. Yes!
Nothing matters in the NBA till the 4th Quarter...Nothing
It could be a million to one..and wait! It's a two point game with 10 seconds left! You know it..
126 | sattv4u2 Tue, Jun 8, 2010 7:19:58pm |
SO ,, Halftime,, here's what I see
The Celtics were blown out in Game 1. Nobody played very well at all, let alone as a team
Game 2, Ray Allen carried them in the 1st half, Rondo in the 2nd. They don't win if either didn't
Game 3,, It's a 12 point game but would be a LOT bigger if not for KG
CONCLUSION
The Celtics TEAM hasn't played one good half yet, let alone one game
Three individual players have played well in three individual halves

Being a Mavs fan, I've seen this game hundreds of times. Terrific road team but play at home and suddenly coasting along will be good enough to get it done. It isn't conscious, it just happens. No jump as they say in hockey.
Second half is wake up time. Big push now but will it be too little too late? Rondo or someone will have to take charge of this deal. First few minutes of the third will tell if we are headed to a blow out or a real good game.

A friend on Facebook put up a comment about Helen Thomas' anti-Jewish remark. I responded by referring to Thomas as a "wicked old bird" and a "Jew-hater." Another person told me to "hold on there," and said that while "wicked old bird" was an opinion, "Jew-hater" was an ugly accusation and asked if I could back it up. The following is what I wrote in reply. (A third person, a right-winger who denies global warming, replied and said he was in shock because he actually agreed with me. I find that this is common among the ideologically bound...they can hardly believe that someone might share SOME of their views, but not all of them.)
Yes, Jew-hater. I make no apologies for being so blunt. "Get the hell out of 'Palestine.'" "Go back to Germany, go back to Poland." These are the words of an anti-Semitic bigot. A Jew-hater.
As a journalist, Ms. Thomas cannot possibly be unaware that Germany and Poland are Ground Zero of the Holocaust (Shoah), or that Poland is the site of ... See MoreAuschwitz, the largest and most notorious of the Nazi death camps.
Israel may be a secular state, but it is unquestionably the Jewish homeland, a Jewish refuge from persecution (and persecution of Jews is very much alive today, and getting worse).
I'm not sure you realize that Israel is being systematically de-legitimized and set up for destruction by people whose interpretation of Islam and the Qu'ran declares that land that has been claimed for Islam must be Islamic forever (they still want Spain, or al-Andalusia, back) and also commands them to kill Jews wherever they find them. Forty percent of the world's Jews live in Israel. To Iran and Hamas, this represents a good start at wiping them out...and lately, they've been winning victory after victory, taking away Israel's options and defenses one after another. Israel lifts a finger to protect itself and the world screams in outrage.
The global press and much of the world willingly buys into anti-Israel propaganda pushed by the likes of Mahmoud Ahmedinejad and the Turkish Prime Minister. You have to ask yourself...why? The hatred directed at Israel far exceeds anything directed at the government of South Africa in the 80's. Why are people so eager to believe the worst about Israel, so eager to call them "usurpers" (they're not--they bought sparsely populated desert land from its absentee Turkish owners, they didn't invade some ancient country called "Palestine" and throw the existing population out), so eager to believe they're tormenting and persecuting and starving the poor Palestinians for no reason, so eager to forget all about the suicide bombings of weddings, buses, pizza parlors, about the rain of rockets from Gaza?
I think it's pretty clear... it's because most of the inhabitants of Israel are Jews. Anti-Jewish bigotry has never died, and it's on the rise again in a big way. and Helen Thomas is just one example of that.

Not really
ANY team that wants to win should be able to win one on the road
BUT , with the 2-3-2 it's almost MANDATORY that the "3" team wins three in a row
Lets say, for instance, the Lakers won game 2. They head back to Boston up 2-0
IF Boston loses one of the next three, it's 3-2 Lakers with Boston HAVING to win two in a row on the road

Indeed. The "all or nothing" ideologues, or as I am want to call them "Animal Farm Ideologues", will not suffer those who are not entirely on their side on every single, damnable issue. It is self-limiting thought, political bigotry akin to any other form of bigotry.
Note to the "AFIs": Being a centrist or a moderate is no where near equivalent to being the proverbial grape in the middle of the road. That is a false analogy entertained only by those who are weak minded and lack basic logic and critical thinking skills.

It will be interesting to see how it develops but I think for a lot of people the bonus will be that your page comes with a built in audience. even on a slow day at least a couple hundred people are going to see your post. With Wordpress or something similar you'd be lucky if to have 20-30 people see your post. I think that's a big bonus. I've had several very nice people with very nice blogs offer me a platform to blog on their site but I've always declined because there's a bigger audience right here in the comments. This is fairly funny. Charles posted this earlier today but CNN has a different angle on it:
TRENDING: Palin wants Obama to call her
Sarah Palin says its time for President Barack Obama to pick up the phone and make some calls – maybe even to her.
In her latest post on Facebook, the former Alaska governor takes aim at the president for not speaking directly with BP CEO Tony Hayward during the ongoing Gulf Coast crisis. Obama told NBC Tuesday that he has not spoken with Hayward because "when you talk to a guy like a BP CEO, he's gonna say all the right things to me - I'm not interested in words, I'm interested in actions."
Palin wrote that Obama's comments amount to "further proof that it bodes well to have some sort of executive experience before occupying the Oval Office," and added that the president should call experts who lived through the 1989 Exxon-Valdez oil spill in Alaska – including herself.
The only thing Sarah Palin is an expert in is skating past responsibilities and logic on a current of wingnut enthusiasm.

Run, do not walk, to the Apple website and download Safari 5. It's awesome. The best browser for reading LGF by far.
Chrome is fast, but Safari has a great, mature set of features.
No linux version...booo. Linux is a smaller market though, so I guess I can't blame them too much. Would be nice to see Safari--and especially itunes--for linux without having to have to mess with windows emulation via wine.

Wait, wait.... Now wait just a damn minute here. Do you mean to tell me she is not an expert on constitutional law? Well I never!
