Ace has apparently responded to Charles' post, and though I won't link to it, I'll try to sum it up. Basically the accusation is not that Charles "steals" stories, but that he finds stuff on other sites, reproduces it on LGF, then "only" gives hat-tips. Apparently other bloggers are butt hurt that he's not providing one line "Go here to find out about story" posts, as if they don't pull the same shit. Also, he's hacked that Charles is portrayed as the central blogger of Rathergate and that, because he's not being public with demands for the media to fix that perception, it gives the appearance that Charles is taking sole credit for breaking the story.

In short, he got caught and is now trying to backtrack by saying that he didn't mean what he said and that his position is actually "reasonable."

We may find her distasteful, but I don't want to give private business the power to discriminate... see I am a Democrat after all.

Businesses do have the power to discriminate. And they should. Bars have the right to refuse to serve drunks, restaurants have the right to refuse service to people without shirts, and so on. What they don't have the right to do is discriminate on any criterion. As with most things in life, it is not an either/or proposal. We don't have to give businesses the right to discriminate against anything, or never discriminate at all.

Which criteria are they allowed to discriminate on then? Well, that's up to ethics and laws, which are in turn derived from the social directives of the community. The doctor that put up a sign saying that Obama voters wouldn't be treated would have been in violation of medical ethics if he checked how people voted before treating them, because that's what we have decided medical ethics should represent. Similarly, we have collectively decided that speech promoting violence, intolerance and hatred should not enjoy total protection. If you want to have the debate that voting for Obama should be similarly shunned and beyond the pale, that debate can be had. In some circles it's been had and settled. However, I think you'll find it won't gain widespread acceptance.

well yes maybe you are happy to be on the winning side, but if the shoe was on the other foot you would not be so happy. I think it dangerous to allow private enterprise to decide what is best for us... I don't want a nanny state & I don't want nanny inc. either.

The winning side? I made no value judgement whatsoever. I simply corrected your apparent mistaken belief of what freedom of speech is. PayPal is not the government so your comment about the nanny state is equally silly.

Totally OT--

I am beginning to think that dipping an entire pint of strawberries in chocolate and eating that for lunch might not have been the wisest of ideas.

With me, chocolate turns acid reflux into the full-ON position. While I'm still eating the chocolate my brain is asking, "How can something that tastes this good make me feel so bad?" Hope that's not what it is for you.

Entirely wrong again. Paypal is deciding what is best for their business, not what is best for "us". Their decision is so far removed from nanny state/nanny inc. that such a concept does not even appear as a dot on the horizon.

They've exercised their freedom of association, nothing more.

If paypal were a government thing, I would agree. Private enterprise has the right to find people odious for behavioral reasons.

By the way, PayPal is apparently canceling Pamela Geller's account. Reason: they're classifying her site as a hate site. Which it is.

Her latest claim is that Obama has outed himself as a seekrit Moooslim to the foreign minister of Egypt:

[...] Egyptian Foreign Minister Abul Gheit said on the "Round Table Show" that he had had a one on one meeting with Obama who swore to him that he was a Moslem, the son of a Moslem father and step-son of Moslem step-father, that his half-brothers in Kenya were Moslems, and that he was loyal to the Moslem agenda. He asked that the Moslem world show patience. Obama promised that once he overcame some domestic American problems (Healthcare), that he would show the Moslem world what he would do with Israel.

Saudis test clearing skies for Israel to bomb Iran: report

Saudi Arabia has conducted tests to stand down its air defences to allow Israeli warplanes to use its airspace in any bombing raid on Iran's nuclear facilities, The Times newspaper reported Saturday.

"The Saudis have given their permission for the Israelis to pass over and they will look the other way," a US defence source in the region told the paper.

"They have already done tests to make sure their own jets aren?t scrambled and no one gets shot down. This has all been done with the agreement of the (US) State Department."

That's actually a pretty funny image. I'm picturing him sitting behind a keyboard and scrolling through Charles' posts with that sneer on his face.

Saudis test clearing skies for Israel to bomb Iran: report

Saw that. Sounds good but if that's true it's not the kind of thing that should be blasted in the media. Let alone be released to the media. According to that article:

"The Saudis have given their permission for the Israelis to pass over and they will look the other way," a US defence source in the region told the paper.

They're talking about the Times of London. If so then this "defense source" is a security risk and should be removed from the DoD immediately.

well yes maybe you are happy to be on the winning side, but if the shoe was on the other foot you would not be so happy. I think it dangerous to allow private enterprise to decide what is best for us... I don't want a nanny state & I don't want nanny inc. either.

You're just repeating the same claim over and over without anything to back it up. Paypal has done nothing to restrict Ms Geller's free speech. Nothing. At most, Paypal is refusing to do business with her but that doesn't restrict her from saying what she wants to say, nor doing business with another vendor.

No, he can be named, but he is attention starved and I will not give the little rodent the satisfaction of having his name mentioned on this thread.

Besides, how does one decide which of his names to mention? , The silly troll has literally used 100's of names during his staking/trolling career.

I have no problem with the idea of a counseling service for people who want to leave Islam.

There are such services for people from nearly every religion. Or at least talk groups for people having problems.

But can you imagine being an apostate from anything and finding out that the Shrieking Harpy is now your new best friend?

LOL. Good luck with that, Pamz.

re: #36 brookly red

well that is a kinda Rand Paul stance... so let's for the sake of extreme argument say that XYZ oil refuses to sell gas to owners of German made cars...
It is their right, no?

Car brand ownership is a protected class now, like race? Oh wait, no it isn't:

The parking lot at Ford Motor Co.'s Dearborn Truck plant just got a little more exclusive.

Plant manager Rob Webber announced Monday that, starting Feb. 1, the parking lot may be used only by employees who drive vehicles built by Ford or one of its subsidiaries.

So, in reality Rand Paul's "stance" is that XYZ oil company should be allowed to refuse to sell gas to black people, regardless of what they drive. I think you know this too, but are being deliberately obtuse. Paypal isn't refusing to do business with Geller because of her ethnicity, religion, gender or age. The don't want to do business with her because she's a hate filled lunatic. A quick visit to crazyland tell me that Paypal isn't doing business with Louis Farrakhan's NOI either, I can't wait for you to work yourself into a froth over how wrong that is.
