8 darthstar  Tue, Jun 15, 2010 6:04:44pm

I'd like to see a total blowout tonight. Lakers by 20 at the half. (please tell me I didn't just jinx them)

Kobe Bryant is looking at his legacy in this series. If he has any hope of equaling Michael Jordan's record, he's got to win two more championships.

Ray Allen has to go off, tonight would be good...Boston has to open the paint and get down there and get on the boards

36 The Shadow Do  Tue, Jun 15, 2010 6:13:50pm

All the Celts have to do is stave off the initial expected charge from the keyed up Lakers and their fans.

37 TheMatrix31  Tue, Jun 15, 2010 6:14:44pm

OK...Nothing matters in the first quarter in an NBA game..It could be a trillion to nothing and end up a one point game at the end...
The key to winning in the NBA is to win the end of each quarter...The end of each quarter is where a star is born in the NBA

Lucky ass Laker team. Luckiest franchise in the HISTORY of professional sports.

Yao Ming gets hurt last year, beat OKC on a tip-in, face a depleted Utah team, beat Phoenix on a tip-in, and now face a Perkins-less C's for the rest of Game 6 and possibly Game 7.

Un-be-lievable.

The Lakers lose when you let Kobe get his and stop everyone else. Kobe is unstoppable, we know this. The key is stopping everyone else. The Lakers have TONS of luck. TONS. I've had the unfortunate ability to watch almost every one of their games for the past 10 years at least. Luck beyond words. I wonder who they blew to get the fortune.

Arizona Mom Arrested After Telling Cops She Was Leaving Kids to Be a Stripper

An Arizona mom was arrested as she packed up for a future as a California stripper because she intended to leave her two young children behind, police said today.

And when her 11-year-old son tried to hug her before their separation, she made a fist and punched him in the stomach, according to police reports.

What a wasted wretch of human being.

66 _RememberTonyC  Tue, Jun 15, 2010 6:28:23pm

Boston just needs to keep them in range ... LA NEEDED to come out strong, but if Boston hangs around and is only down 4-6 points heading into the 4th qtr, they may be OK. No word yet on Perkins and his health, but hopefully out of the next break we'll know something.

67 MichaelJ  Tue, Jun 15, 2010 6:28:43pm

Lakers are playing like a desperate team, which they are. Boston is playing like a team that knows it only needs a split in LA to win the title. But while the loss of Perkins has been huge, the fact of the matter is that LA is dominating the paint, the boards, and swarming the Celtics on defense.

we'll know in the first 5:00 of the third quarter if this game will be competitive down the stretch. If Boston can chip 8 points off the lead in the first half of the third quarter, it may be a good game. But if Boston loses ground early in the third, you can probably stick a fork in them.

Rondo has played like crap..How many times did he just skip over the line, pass it off and hide on the wing or corner? Ozzy Osbourne is a science project...

Amazed Boffins Probe Ozzy's Genetic Code

Scientists are to map Ozzy Osbourne's genetic code in a bid to find out how he is still alive after decades of drug and alcohol abuse.

The former Black Sabbath frontman is only one of a few people in the world to have his full genome analysed.

It is hoped the results from the £27,000 test, which takes three months, will provide information on how drugs are absorbed in the body.

Ozzy, 61, has lived a life that would presumably kill any ordinary person.

Even the singer himself cannot understand how he has survived this long, recently describing himself as a "medical miracle" after going on a "bender" for "40 years".

He has admitted drinking four bottles of cognac a day at one point, "blacking out, coming to again and carrying on".

From the perspective of a Celtics fan, I'd rather lose this game by 30 than by 10. If LA is smart enough to take their foot off the gas, the humiliation factor in game 7 will be decreased. But if they rub Boston's nose in it and win by 30, Boston will respond with much more intensity in game 7.

Police arrest duo for trying to trade an iPod Touch and Marijuana in exchange for an iPad, via Craigslist!

...This past Thursday, Police arrested two men who posted a Craigslist ad (pictured above) in an effort to try and trade a 32 GB iPod Touch and a sizeable amount of Pot in exchange for an iPad. And as if that wasn’t dumb enough, these enterprising young fellows actually posted a picture of their weed on a scale, sitting right next to a third-generation iPod Touch.

Who knows, maybe the weed, which the Craigslist ad refers to as “blue dream straight outta cali”, had to be seen to be believed. Then again, if it was really that good, maybe they would have asked for the 64GB iPad 3G model instead.

In any event, after receiving a tip about the obviously illegal posting, undercover police officers answered the ad and subsequently arrested 20-year old Jacob Walker when they met up under the auspices of completing the advertised exchange. Also arrested was Walker’s partner in crime, 20-year old Joseph Velarde who also hails from Gilbert, Arizona. According to Gilbert Police Sergeant Mark Marino, the arrests were made once Walker proffered the Marijuana to the undercover agents.

Both now face charges for possession of an illegal substance and conspiracy to sell Marijuana.

Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and Howard Fineman react to President Obama's Oval Office Address on the oil spill. Here are the highlights of what the trio said:

Olbermann: "It was a great speech if you were on another planet for the last 57 days."

Matthews compared Obama to Carter.

Olbermann: "Nothing specific at all was said."

Matthews: "No direction."

Howard Fineman: "He wasn't specific enough."

Olbermann: "I don't think he aimed low, I don't think he aimed at all. It's startling."

Howard Fineman: Obama should be acting like a "commander-in-chief."

Matthews: Ludicrous that he keeps saying [Secretary of Energy] Chu has a Nobel prize. "I'll barf if he does it one more time."

Matthews: "A lot of meritocracy, a lot of blue ribbon talk."

Matthews: "I don't sense executive command."

Ouch.

An 18-year-old Indonesian man says he was seduced by a cow, and that's why he was having sex with it.

A neighbour caught Gusti Ngurah Alit allegedly wooing the farm animal on Sunday, the village chief on the resort island of Bali said, the Times newspaper in Johannesburg, South Africa reported Friday.

"He was caught by one of the residents standing naked while holding the back of the cow," village chief Embang Ida Bagus Legawa said in the newspaper.

Alit said he didn't see an animal, he saw a beautiful young woman.

"She called my name and seduced me, so I had sex with her," the man told the newspaper.

Alit underwent a cleansing ritual. The village chief gave the owner of the cow the equivalent of $562.

The cow was reportedly drowned in the sea to rid the village of bad luck.

This is litigious society. More than half the time whenever an accident occurs American's spend the majority of their time trying to lay blame on someone else or at least lay blame on whatever group they hate the most. In this case it's seen as a political tool by both Democrats and Republicans that each want to blame each other.

Then we have the Greens who want to nationalize BP which would be interesting since they are a British company. Whatever you can think of it will happen. I'm sure there are people that are offended in one form or another.

I don't know. Getting really tired of the Chinese fire drill and the sky is falling mentality about this oil spill from all sides. I was just talking to the cashier at my local store about how America stopped when Paris Hilton was taken to prison for that drunk driving offense. It also stopped for three days after the death of Anna Nicole Smith and practically a week for Michael Jackson.

Olbermann: "Why did he not announce he was a Time Lord?"

Howard Fineman: Obama should be acting like a "commander-in-chief", I mean Time Lord in Cheif.

Matthews: "Really where is his Tardis?"

Matthews: "If he used the Tardis to go back in time he could warn us of the impending oil spill and stop it from happening"

Matthews: "Why no TARDIS!!???!!!!"

Howard Fineman: Worst President/Time Lord EVAH!

Pelosi's new office is House's costliest by far

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has more than quadrupled the rent on her San Francisco district office, making the $18,736-a-month cost of her new South of Market space the highest in the House, according to a new report.

The rent - part of Pelosi's budget, which is funded by taxpayers - is nearly double the next-highest rent in the House: Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., pays $10,600 a month for his Manhattan office, while representatives from Sacramento, Boston and Los Angeles pay nearly that much, the report said.

The financial data were compiled from public records by the nonprofit Sunlight Foundation and Roll Call, a political newspaper. Information from the database is not yet available online.

Pelosi moved in the fall from the federal building at 450 Golden Gate Ave. to the 18-story federal building at 90 Seventh St. She had been paying about $4,300 a month for her old office, Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said.

Why not find a much more expensive office right now? Our government has lots of money to burn.

Don't let anybody tell you the value of chess is thinking ahead. You don't need chess to do that. Chess teaches you about grinding away at the limits of your imagination. Never have I done anything like sitting at a table for an hour and a half and get up so completely wasted. I knew the kids on the other side were more experienced than me. Some of those kids were featured in a local news story when they were in grade school. I wasn't above .500, but I won more than a few games and I definitely earned their respect. Sharron Angle Left Far-Right Third Party For Electoral Expedience, Members Say

The key to understanding Nevada Republican Senate candidate Sharron Angle may be the fact that she has not always been a Republican.

For at least six years in the 1990s before she held state-level elective office, Angle was a member of the little-known Independent American Party, a right-wing party that combines elements of Ron Paul's doctrinaire libertarianism -- pro-gun, anti-tax, anti-bureaucracy, pro-states' rights -- with Christian social conservatism and fear of the "North American Union" and other forms of "global government." The small party attracted considerable controversy in 1994 when it took out a newspaper ad titled "Consequences of Sodomy: Ruin of a Nation," which suggested HIV could spread through the water.

Three members of the Independent American Party tell TPM that Angle, a Nye County, Nevada, school board member at the time, was an active member of the party in the 1990s. They say she only left the Independent American Party and became a Republican out of political expediency when she decided to seek a seat in the state assembly, to which she was elected in 1998.

Independent American Party

The Independent American Party is a Protestant political party in the United States that has several state affiliates. It was founded in 1998. This should not be confused with the Independent American Party of Nevada, the Nevada affiliate of the Constitution Party. As of 2006, only three of its candidates have achieved elected office.

The party traces its roots back to George Wallace's American Independent movement of 1968. They are against the concept of the New World Order, the Trilateral Commission, the Council on Foreign Relations. They also oppose secularism, abortion, and the welfare state.

At their 2008 Convention on September 12, 2008, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the IAP endorsed Constitution Party Presidential Candidate Chuck Baldwin for President.

Kennedy orgies in romper room

The FBI was tipped off that the three Kennedy brothers, Marilyn Monroe and members of Frank Sinatra's Rat Pack held sex parties in John F. Kennedy's suite at The Carlyle hotel, according to confidential bureau files revealed yesterday.

An FBI report on the alleged orgies at the Upper East Side hotel was prompted by a July 1965 disclosure from a "reliable" Mafia informant that the mob wanted to use women supplied by "associates of Frank Sinatra" to embarrass the Kennedys in New York.

The women were to "be placed in compromising situations" with Robert and Ted Kennedy and their brother-in-law, actor Peter Lawford, the confidential memo said.

The mob wanted to smear Robert F. Kennedy because of his war on organized crime as US attorney general from 1961 to 1964, the informant said. But the FBI didn't investigate the claims, the bureau said.

The documents were among 2,352 pages of FBI files unveiled yesterday on Ted Kennedy, who died last August after a battle with cancer.

Obama & the Democrat's poll numbers have tanked since they passed ObamaCare and most Americans want the bill repealed. Besides, the CBO continues to crunch numbers and the last I heard the bill wasn't going to save any money as was advertised. In fact it's going to cost money, and the CBO ain;t finished yet.

We were told it was going to lower health care costs and give us more coverage.

Employer health care costs to jump 9% in 2011

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Companies that offer health plans will see their costs jump 9% in 2011, and most employees will pay higher deductibles as a result, said a report released Monday.

Employers will try to offset cost increases by requiring their workers to shell out more cash before coverage kicks in, according to a survey of 700 employers by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

I hardly consider that a victory to be proud of.

Barack Obama has been accused of holding "his boot on the throat" of British pensioners after his attacks on BP were blamed for wiping billions off the company's value

About $71 billion in lost share value in the UK.

BP's position at the top of the London Stock Exchange and its previous reliability have made it a bedrock

of almost every pension fund in the country, meaning its value is crucial to millions of workers. The firm's dividend payments, which amount to more than £7 billion a year, account for £1 in every £6 paid out in dividends to British pension pots.

You're kidding, right?
I am no unconditional fan of Pelosi. That said, to argue that she is an ineffective Speaker is just ridiculous when the largest and most important piece of (domestic) legislation in 50 years passed just a few months ago.

You have to ignore a very large chunk of reality to believe that.

You certainly are a blind cheerleader for the Pelosi. Please note that the legislation she "passed" had to be tossed out because it hadn't a snowball's chance in the Senate. The House had to choke on the Senate bill--as often happens--becaue of the House's overreach.

Good comment.

And note how this is being taken in Britain. BP was their largest company, something like 80 billion has been wiped out, one in seven dollars earned by a pension fund was BP dividends. They feel like there is anti-British sentiment and a desire to destroy the company.

Barack Obama's BP Brit-bashing could harm US-UK relations
and
Cantor says Obama should stop 'demonising' BP

“What we are seeing out of the administration has been utter outrage, blame, vilification, cursing on TV instead of focusing on stopping the gushing of the oil,” he told the FT in its View from DC video series. “How does that help? There is going to be plenty of time for demonising, punishing, what have you, OK?”
and
THE demonisation of BP in America over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has now attained extravagant and potentially very damaging proportions.
and
Cameron under attack for 'failing to stand up for Britain' over BP

We can feel sorry for Britain only after BP pays for the full cost of the damage their negligence has and will do. No sympathy from the Brits over our coastline?

re: #514 BryanS

Gingrich by comparison was as partisan and as much of a lightening rod. He had marshaled a lot of legislation through the House that passed the Senate with many fewer Republicans than there are Democrats today.

Agreed, but it must be said that both parties were of more of a mind to deal at that time (though the government shutdown of 1994-95 was a major collision that Gingrich got worsted in). With the GOP controlling Congress and Bill Clinton in the White House, cooperation was required to do anything. Moreover, the Senate Dems still had a party leader (Clinton) who was an officeholder and had an interest in getting things done. Today, much of the effective leadership of the Republican party is made up of media personalities, who are less interested in results than ratings.

Is it more partisan now? Can't say for sure. It was pretty bad during the Clinton era--I think possibly as bad, if not worse. I mean, we did impeach the president over fellatio. The moment we live in always seems like politics are at their worst when in reality, it has always been dirty.

There was no House overreach. A compromise bill between the House and the Senate was well on it's way in December, but the unexpected result in the MA special election changed this calculus. In the 19th January, everybody was declaring the HCR was dead. Pelosi is probably the politician most responsible for "resurrecting" it. And for that she has earned a place in History books. The blind partisans are the ones who try to deny these pretty simple and verifiable facts.

Why is corporate bailouts in the interest of the people? Won't that lessen the attention oil companies pay to safety if they do not have to bare the full cost of their actions? Wouldn't imposing that cost on any company that is negligent make all companies clean up their acts and prevent the next disaster?

Nope. That was a collapse. This is hysteria. There were no hounds braying for AIG's blood forcing it to collapse. That was limited to the loss, not exaggerated in a media and political frenzy.

What is similar is that it is little people who pay the price.

hey pal, you invest in a company and expect to share when they win, you got to expect to take a loss when they fuck up big time.

Being a shareholder is not a guaranteed win. The whole reason limited corporations were even invented is because of how many Brits were utterly ruined (lost 10-20 times more than they'd invested) when Lloyd's had too many ships go down in the same year.

Obama & the Democrat's poll numbers have tanked since they passed ObamaCare and most Americans want the bill repealed.

The Dems will suffer in November, no doubt about it. But repealing the bill is a fantasy -- and I'll bet you any sum of money that the repeal will be vastly unpopular as soon as the GOP presents a specific proposal. The most lucid Republicans admit as much already.

Besides, the CBO continues to crunch numbers and the last I heard the bill wasn't going to save any money as was advertised. In fact it's going to cost money, and the CBO ain;t finished yet.

Nice expression. Spares you from presenting a link to support that load of crap.

BP is a responsible company; the US government was hardly unaware of its presence in the Gulf of Mexico; no lack of due precautions has been proved against the contractors drilling on BP's behalf. The oil industry is a high-risk but vital activity. Accidents happen, as every adult knows, without culpability necessarily being attributable to anybody.

It is true that the stock price fall is hysteria--for now. The market is pricing in the worst case scenario, and probably worse than the cleanup costs will end up. But that stock will rebound if the cleanup costs do not exceed BP's ability to pay them. If the cleanup costs exceed BP's ability to pay them, then unfortunately for the investors they will lose their investment unless BP is bailed out. It would seem it should be Great Britain to take the lead on the bailing, though.

re: #544 Bagua

My investment manager is clever enough not to put everything in one stock. Mutual Funds by definition aren't all in one stock. Very sad, but get over it.

So one stock isn't going to have dividends for awhile. Worst case, the money invested in that stock is lost, and the pension fund will run with less of a cushion (assuming they're defined benefit plans) than they're used to. Those poor sad pensioners still have their govt pensions, those who had an extra private retirement fund aren't going to be doing quite as well as they'd expected. But they're not going to starve, they're not going to lose their homes, and nobody's going after them for extra cash. Some of their stock didn't pan out, that's all. Kind of like what happened to Lehman Bros stockholders.
