Edge with the Celtics tonight. Kobe will be pressing and that leaves the rest of the Lakers just looking on. Team discipline/tempo wins this type game and the east coast guys have that. Should be great! Nothing finer than a game seven. Oh, and my tall green friends, please hammer Gasol from the get go - he does not seem to like that much - and will settle for klunky jump shots.
Kobe goes off for forty. And loses. Much west coast sadness ensues. Will Jack stay to watch the celebration (wake) tonight?

Without Perkins it’s going to be pretty tough.
Rasheed Wallace actually makes it easier for Rondo to penetrate because he can step outside and shoot. But Perkins’ absence on defense and on the boards is a big loss for BOS.

North Korea players go missing
The World Cup is always a fascinating tournament as it constantly supplies moments of drama, genius and the absurd as FIFA have no idea of the whereabouts of four North Korean players.
Kim Myong, Kim Kyonh II, Na Chol and Pak Sung Hyok have literally disappeared as the four where nowhere to be found when North Korea took to the field in their Group G opener against the five-time champions Brazil.
A spokeperson from FIFA has admitted that they are also in the dark as to where the players could be because no one form North Korea has relayed the status of the players in question.
No comments or statements have been issued from the North Korea camp and the location of the four will remain a mystery until then.

Chicago rioted twice during the Bulls first championship run. But in both cases it was fairly localized and didn’t happen at all during their last four wins. Moreover, the Blackhawks win this month provoked nothing worse than firecrackers being set off.

A nationwide alert has been issued for 17 members of the Afghan military who have gone AWOL from a Texas Air Force base where foreign military officers who are training to become pilots are taught English, FoxNews.com has learned.
The Afghan officers and enlisted men have security badges that give them access to secure U.S. defense installations, according to the lookout bulletin, “Afghan Military Deserters in CONUS [Continental U.S.],” issued by Naval Criminal Investigative Service in Dallas, and obtained by FoxNews.com.
The Afghans were attending the Defense Language Institute at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. The DLI program teaches English to military pilot candidates and other air force prospects from foreign countries allied with the U.S.
“I can confirm that 17 have gone missing from the Defense Language Institute,” said Gary Emery, Chief of Public Affairs, 37th Training Wing, at Lackland AFB. “They disappeared over the course of the last two years, and none in the last three months.”
Each Afghan was issued a Department of Defense Common Access Card, an identification card used to gain access to secure military installations, with which they “could attempt to enter DOD installations,” according to the bulletin. It is insane that people would riot over a sports game. This happens all over Europe and Britain over football games. A hard core of hooligans who ruin the game for the fans who want to have some fun and bring their kids to see the teams they like.

I don’t like rioting any more than the next guy. But tonight’s tone has been a bit “hot” to say the least. Hey, back in 08 we lost a fan to police overreaction and it only got dealt with this week! Like I already said, passion is great, but needs to be kept in some check. Sports, like politics, can illicit passions hard to surpress (sp?) when they get let loose. Breathe. It’s good.

Tense moments outside Staples Center as police try to control fans
The Los Angeles Lakers’ victory against the Boston Celtics in the NBA final brought boisterous celebrations across Los Angeles — mostly peaceful but with some tense moments.
Crowds smashed windows at Pico Boulevard and Figueroa Street.
At 9th and Flower streets, a crowd bashed in the windows at the condo loft tower and ripped down the barriers that had been set up at the street. Then they swarmed a pickup truck at the intersection. Ten men hopped on top of it.
Police were also responding to a report of shots fired near Staples Center.
A standoff has ensued between Lakers fans and a phalanx of more than two dozen police wearing riot gear and wielding batons. The scene began when fans tore down a traffic sign and then started tearing down two newspaper stands and lighting the papers on fire. When the police marched up Figueroa Street, about two dozen abreast, the crowd slowly receded.
Some people are throwing Monster Energy drinks at the crowd (they were given out after the win). Others are posing for photographs in front of the line of police.
Some people kicked a Honda car parked on Figueroa Street, shattering its windows. But others tried to protect the car. One in that group said: “You ain’t from L.A. This is L.A.. No burning.”
At least nine people were arrested by the LAPD.
The Sheriff’s Department closed Whittier Boulevard in East L.A., but no incidents were reported there.

El Al Airline Scare As Fake “Plastic Explosives” Make It To JFK
A lifelike fake plastic explosive, apparently used for bomb training at Israeli airports, was accidentally left on board an El Al plane after an exercise there and made its way aboard a passenger flight to New York, officials said.
The diplomatic pouch traveled from Israel to New York — and then wound up being delivered to the Israeli Consulate on Manhattan’s East Side.
The devices were inert, police said. Israeli consulate officials apparently tried to send the pouch back to Ben Gurion Airport and it sat in a JFK airport office for several days. When it finally was set to be returned overseas on an El Al flight, it set off alarms at JFK airport. Port Authority and New York police were called to investigate.

There are thousands of foreign military people from the Middle East (and all over the rest of the world) who go there every year for training. Dozens (if not more) go missing every year. It’s usually because of bad conditions in their home countries. They hook up with American women and eventually marry them & get their green cards.

Lakers fans smash windows, throw rocks, run onto freeway; police try to maintain order
A huge contingent of Los Angeles Police Department officers were trying to maintain order Thursday night as some Lakers fans roamed downtown, jumping on cars, smashing windows and throwing rocks.
LAPD officer fired less-than-lethal weapons at a group of people who threw pieces of concrete at them.
Cars trying to make their way through the intersection of 9th and Hope streets were mauled by fans banging on their windows. Police approached on horseback and then riot police pressed into the crowd. The crowd retreated, knocking off side-view windows of cars and lighting fireworks as they went.

Belen Lopez, 20, and her boyfriend were running down Hill Street, away from the riot police approaching on horseback.

I don’t get it. I like to watch hockey now and then, but overall I don’t give much of a crap for watching sports. It just ain’t my thing.
But why hate on it? I think it may come from a place of juvenile jealousy. Maybe it comes from the same place that whole “Elitist” hate comes from.

New York also has a much larger police department. The NYPD is more than 3 times the size of the LAPD, and they don’t have as much area to cover. Thus they can deploy in huge numbers to smother a riot before it gets going.

If it were to happen it would be in The Bronx, Queens, and/or Brooklyn. Manhattan itself is too… I’m looking for the right word but it’s not coming to me. Point is that’s where you’d find most of the people actually interested in NY sports.

I doubt that thing would have the same role as an F-15. Forward-swept wings are great for maneuverability, but not for high speed. This would probably be more of a multirole fighter along the lines of a JSF. Gus, let me know if I’m talking out of my ass.
Point is, a lot of smaller fighters like even F-16s would own the F-15 at close range.

That was only with the USAF F-4E. But yeah. If the Navy F-4B and J had a cannon to begin with that would have helped.
