New Video: ‘Peace Activists’ Planning Violence

Middle East • Views: 2,274

The IDF is now releasing more of the video confiscated from the “peace activists” aboard the Gaza flotilla; here’s a recording made on the Mavi Marmara on May 30, 2010, in which IHH leader Bulent Yildirim gives a speech laden with jihadist symbology, telling the assembled activists not to be “cowards,” but to attack the Israeli commandos and throw them overboard.

The crowd responds by chanting, “Millions of martyrs to Jerusalem!” and “Allah Akbar!”

Yes, the UN. Very fair and impartial indeed.

Former U.N. General Assembly President – a Critic of the U.S. and Israel – Will Provide ‘Expertise’ to U.N. Human Rights Council

Less than a year after he ended an often turbulent presidency of the U.N. General Assembly, a Nicaraguan leftist and arch-critic of the U.S. and Israel was set Friday to be appointed to the advisory committee of the U.N.’s top human rights agency.

Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann has been nominated by the Sandinista government to fill a vacancy on the Human Rights Council’s advisory committee, a body of 18 experts, which functions as the Geneva-based council’s think tank.

As the vacant position is one of three earmarked for Latin America and the Caribbean nations, and D’Escoto is the only nominated put forward by that regional group, known as GRULAC, his election by the 47-member council on the last day of its three-week midyear session is likely to be a formality.

The HRC states that the nomination process is meant “to ensure that the best possible expertise is made available to the Council.”

According to agreed-upon U.N. procedures, the post calls for “recognized competence and experience in the field of human rights; high moral standing; [and] independence and impartiality.”

IHH Premeditated Violence - Testimony of Marmara Captain 1Jun10
Caption:
IsraelMFA — June 11, 2010 — The videotaped statements of two Mavi Marmara crew members show that preparations for a violent confrontation with IDF forces were put in motion about two hours before the boarding began, when the Israeli Navy hailed the ship and told it to halt.

According to the statements, the atmosphere aboard the Mavi Marmara was tense and the crew noticed a gathering on the main deck. When they checked the upper deck they discovered that IHH operatives were cutting the ship’s railings with metal disks they had brought with them into lengths suitable to be used as clubs. The crew members said the activities worried them and that they tried to stop the operatives but were unsuccessful.

Captain said those iron bars that his officers were able to confiscate were tossed into the sea, as per his orders. Of course, there were many more.

Israeli hacker hits IHH website

An Israeli hacker managed to break into the website of Turkish IHH group, which organized the Gaza flotilla, disabling the organization’s fundraising mechanism for a few hours.

The 30-year-old hacker from Holon, who wished to remain anonymous, said he was concerned with Israel’s poor PR efforts and decided to make a contribution of his own.

“The real war today is online. I spent an entire week exploring the site, a few hours each night, until I succeeded,” he said.

The hacker added that he was surprised to learn that IHH received some 9,000 euros in donations every hour via the website. The group is planning to send a second flotilla to Gaza next month.

Reuters is trying to figure out how to crop the video so that the speaker is actually speaking to the Knights of Columbus in Waukeegan.

50 lawhawk  Fri, Jun 18, 2010 10:55:45am

Also seen in these newly released videos:

Another speaker told those present in Arabic, “Don’t be like the ones who turned back and don’t turn back.” Sheikh Raed Salah, head of the Islamic Movement’s northern branch can be seen sitting among the crowd.

Salah is a piece of work.

They also chanted we will throw them into the sea. For those who haven’t followed Middle East history since 1947- that’s the same line that the Arabs have chanted every time they call for Israel’s destruction. Throw the Jews into the sea. Eliminate Israel.

That’s what this is about. It isn’t about humanitarian aid - it’s about undermining Israel’s right to exist.

Also, the person leading the chant “Martyrs marching into Gaza by the millions” was apparently an Egyptian parliamentarian. That’s someone who is a part of the Egyptian government that signed a peace deal with Israel in 1979 and which specifically refused to take Gaza in the peace treaty along with Sinai.

Yeah, what a lovely bunch.

Prime Minister Begin’s failure to force Egypt to take back the Gaza Strip was a direct outgrowth of the fedayeen attacks repeatedly launched against Israeli civilians from the strip under Egyptian auspices between 1948-67. His decision to avoid giving Egypt a geographic “finger” poking into Israel’s underbelly, while understandbable in that context, will unfortunately go down in history as the greatest failure of the Camp David accords.

74 lawhawk  Fri, Jun 18, 2010 11:13:07am

re: #62 albusteve

Well, the alternative is the situation we have now - lumbering from crisis to crisis and occasionally fighting skirmishes, but not an all-out war.

Israel can’t afford an all-out war for an extended period of time because it taxes the economy far too much having all those reservists called up to fight against Israel’s foes.

So, Israel will whack the kassam launchers/terrorists as stick their heads out to fire, enforce the blockade and search cargo entering Gaza and take the PR hit even though other countries routinely do far worse without the slightest of recriminations.

War would come if Syria or Iran become directly involved or if Hizbullah starts another shooting war in the North.

Egypt didn’t want it also for that very reason - they didn’t exactly have a handle on the Gaza Strip and it is far more radicalized that Egypt proper (filled with Muslim Brotherhood types that later morphed into Salafists, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other terror outfits).

Another distinction was that Gaza wasn’t part of Egypt proper prior to 1948 - it was part of Mandate Palestine. It wasn’t like they were getting back their own territory as in the case of Sinai, but Israel was hoping to unload the territory on Egypt to administer rather than deal with that burden.

I just want to stop a moment and praise Elton John for not bowing to the antisemitic campaign of boycotting Israel:

“Shalom, we are so happy to be back here! Ain’t nothing gonna stop us from coming, baby,” John said with a fist in the air.

The piano man then took a swipe at those artists, including Elvis Costello, Santana, the Pixies and Devendra Banhart, who have bailed on concerts in recent weeks.

“Musicians spread love and peace, and bring people together. That’s what we do,” he said. “We don’t cherry-pick our conscience.”

Keep in mind that they crossed an internationally recognized border in order to carry out this military raid.

They SHOULD get a pass.

There is long precedent for nations raiding terrorist groups or armed forces that operating against their homeland, even if the raid must violate somebody else’s border. If the nation whose border is violated has not been able to effectively control what goes on inside its own borders, then the other side can do what it needs to do. Pershing chased Pancho Villa all over northern Mexico after Villista forces raided an American border town. Patton was one of Pershing’s junior officers.

I wish the Kurds well. But no good can come of a terrorist campaign inside Turkey, and when Kurdish forces attack Turkey, they must expect to be counterattacked. The U.S. isn’t going to provide them a skirt to hide behind, nor is the Iraqi border.

Actually I think that this is emblematic of Israel’s PR problem. What the 24 hour media value above all else is who breaks the story first, and often in the most sensationalist manner. Just like any other democratic state, Israel is meticulous in its official press statements, unlike Hamas e.t.c, who are willing to haphazardly fire off absurdly exaggerated claims, as they know that the “truthiness” of these claims is what will stay in people’s minds, regardless of how untrue they subsequently turn out to be. Unfortunately a lie can travel around the world before the truth has it’s boots on.

I don’t know why it took so long for this video to surface - there could be good reasons for that. But generally, I think there is little value in propaganda terms of producing videos that help Israel days or weeks after the event; days and weeks after the first reports and rounds of condemnation. I think Israel needs to smarten it’s act up and learn how to avoid handing propaganda victories to Hamas and their supporters in the first place.

As a contributor at Harry’s Place recently put it : “It shouldn’t be this hard to make Hamas look bad”.

111 Sand Panda  Fri, Jun 18, 2010 12:08:56pm

Jenin is a good example of this. Despite claiming initial figures of upwards of 3000 civilians slaughtered by the IDF, the PLO ended up quietly revising the official death toll down to 56*, all of whom turned out to be active combatants. And yet, the anti-Israel crowd will still lament the “Jenin Massacre” in the same breath as the Armenian or Rwandan Genocides, as if they were anywhere near equivalent.

*Conversely IDF claims 52 dead.

re: #109 Sand Panda

Until recently, I would have immediately agreed that the problem is poor PR on Israel’s part. However, the paroxysms of knee-jerk anti-Israel responses and commentary from governments (including, unfortunately, my own in the U.S.), the media and other institutions even in the face of clear evidence and fact, have caused me to reassess that view. I now believe that this is not a PR problem but, rather, that the world is reverting to its historical norm of Jew-hatred and that the half-century or so after the end of World War II, during which it was not fashionable to be openly anti-Semitic, may historically be viewed as only a deviation from the norm.

In my more pessimistic moments I have to say that I agree with you. And yet the frustrating thing is that people will still believe that the Jews/Israelis covertly dictate the media’s agenda. One aspect of this is that any Israeli PR is treated by the media just like that; PR, but for some reason Hamas propaganda almost always accepted at face value. Maybe they are afraid that if they investigate just a little, the whole house of cards will come tumbling down.

There’s some big stories in this: for one thing, the presence of the Egyptian Parliamentary member (I’m taking the red arrow at face value). I’ll tune into NPR this afternoon. I’m sure they’ll do a story on this.

Among other things I learned from this video is that the word “אנחנו” (we/us) is the same in Hebrew and Arabic. I never knew that.

I’ve learned that if you say something, especially something about God or food, over and over to me in Arabic, I will eventually figure it out. The cognates are so frequent that you do eventually work the sentence out, albeit in a sort of weird, slantwise way.

I’m sort of at a loss to respond, because I don’t really disagree with you, but I also think that music isn’t just about making a pleasant noise. It’s emotion, it’s meaning, it inspires, but also, it’s representative of what happens when one is free to express themselves in a free society. I don’t think it’s wrong to take a stand against such a thing or to support (or not to support) musicians who pick which side they’ll play for. Music really is more than “just” music for me in that way.

Get this, as a response to my blogpost above on Peace Activists and Terrorists, Twitter user @biledna from Turkey responded to me by saying “A peace activist is not an idiot who would welcome commandos with flowers or a coward who would surrender pirates.”

Like that doesn’t exactly prove my point.

And this is why it doesn’t matter when the Israeli government releases the video. With each passing day, the UN continues to demonstrate its uselessness as anything other than a mutual aid society for the world’s despots.

Anyone with half a brain understood there would be Palestinian supporters of one kind or many on board that ship. But there also were real peace activists on board. I’m not sure I appreciated this putting peace activists in quotations as if they don’t exist. They played Israel by covering their bases. No one in the entire world is ever innocent and all the rest are guilty. Unless you’re talking about Bush/ Cheney which comes close to a clear black/ white easy to decide who the bad guys are.

Also seen in these newly released videos:

Whosewhatsie—Husseini. I’m reading O Jerusalem at the moment. But I can’t keep the Husseini brothers straight. Anyone wondering why the Israelis don’t trust the British any further than they can throw them, read the first third or so fo the book. The British would have liked nothing better in 1947 than for the Arabs to manage to drive the Jews into the sea.
