Sarah Palin: Bake, Baby, Bake

Weird • Views: 2,487

By the way, Sarah Palin is (or was) a pot smoker. And she thinks marijuana is “a minimal problem.”

Nope, not kidding. You think I could make up something like this? About 13 minutes into this clip from (where else?) Judge Napolitano’s “Freedom Watch.”

Palin represents the new far right breed of fundamentalist Christian social conservative stoner libertarians. Oh my aching head.

Well, it certainly explains a lot.

And now, the Palin 2012 campaign song

Bake, Babe, Bake. Are we talking brownies?

4 Fozzie Bear  Fri, Jun 18, 2010 12:58:23pm

Wouldn’t it be ironic if this is the thing that causes a schism between her and the hard right?

Well, I’m sure I’m not a talking brownie. What the hell have you been smoking?

As a matter of fact, here’s the quote:

Palin has admitted to smoking when it was legal for personal use in Alaska, saying she “can’t…say that I never inhaled.”

Alaska has always had a very liberal attitude about pot, she seems to just be part of that tradition.

But it is still a major mindf*ck to hear her say it.

38 darthstar  Fri, Jun 18, 2010 1:25:17pm

US Group standings:
Slovenia - 4pts
USA - 2pts
England - 2pts
Algeria - 1pt

USA - Algeria & England - Slovenia next week.

If US & England win, the points will be
US - 5
England - 5
Slovenia -4
Algeria - 1
US & England advance.

If the US wins, they advance no matter what. US can advance with a tie if England loses to Slovenia.

England pretty much must win to advance. If they tie and the US ties, then England needs to score two more goals than the US to advance.

39 Bubblehead II  Fri, Jun 18, 2010 1:26:17pm

Personal opinion here. But I think that if the economy keeps up the way it is, we will see more efforts to not only decriminalize pot, but legalize and tax it.

Economically it makes sense. Why spend billions investigating/prosecuting /imprisoning people for growing/using pot when you could instead flood the public coffers with those same billions?

24 years ago, gas station/diner/store in rural Alaska. My parents and my older sister and I were traveling back from the Kenai peninsula to Anchorage.

BOS* and I had to go. We stood, waiting patiently, in front of the door to the women’s which was occupied.

Another woman walked up, looked at us, looked at the door, leaned back, kicked the door to the men’s room open, and said, “Men’s is empty,” and went in.

Alaska is a different world.

(Yes, we waited for the little girls’ room. We have brothers, and wanted to use the “cleaner” bathroom.

Algeria controlled the ball very well, I thought. Great passing, just not enough power to get it into the goal. England has the power, but was unable to control the ball and had it stolen way too many times.

I have four sons. NO WAY am I using a bathroom used that much by men.

(Actually, I periodically switch out the toilet seats (a whopping $6), if the paint starts to wear down. I finally did our bathroom. About halfway through, I stopped, went down and got the boys, and marched them back up. Then I proceeded to point out, LOUDLY, that in NINE years, their father had not hit the hinges. The hinges on that toilet seat were clean. The hinges on the seat in the kids’ bathroom require gloves to remove. Good For Sarah Palin to say that. I’d rather see people say stuff that doesn’t fit the meme for what we expect from them in a good way like this than to have more mindless parroting of a certain party line.

I’m not saying that this means I agree with her on anything else (because I probably don’t), but on this issue I fail to see why this is a bad thing?

As far as having a single consistent party line, I don’t think there is anyone who can do that except zealots and idealists. The more deviation we get from a single party line purity, the better off this country will be in the long run.

Maybe she’ll surprise us with a few other not far right beliefs. I say this in all seriousness that I hope so. Sarah Palin has a pull and clout that is far beyond anything one would expect. I’d say it’s a cult of personality, and if she comes out with beliefs that help push that group towards more acceptance and understanding then that’s a good thing. Yes, this is just one issue, but one can always hold out hope that there are others.

Of course It’s also just as likely that if she does, she’ll get ground up, chewed up, and spit out by the same groups that idolizes her.

re: #66 EmmmieG

I have four sons. NO WAY am I using a bathroom used that much by men.

(Actually, I periodically switch out the toilet seats (a whopping $6), if the paint starts to wear down. I finally did our bathroom. About halfway through, I stopped, went down and got the boys, and marched them back up. Then I proceeded to point out, LOUDLY, that in NINE years, their father had not hit the hinges. The hinges on that toilet seat were clean. The hinges on the seat in the kids’ bathroom require gloves to remove. They can’t manage to not miss even one week at a time, so you understand why I really don’t want to use a bathroom populated entirely by men.)

There is that.

I used to work at a school where the parents were volunteer janitors. At one point, Mrs. Lopez refused to clean the boy’s bathroom, because apparently the boys missed on an alarming basis.

Her daughter reported to the boys that they were on their own, and they better clean that bathroom!

We had a class called “Men’s Training”, sort of a junior Iron John thing, and I suggested to the teacher that one of his units should be about aiming. I proposed a culminative field trip to the mountains where they would write their names in the snow.

He liked the idea, but AFAIK, he just went on with martial arts and talking about fatherhood and sexual responsibility.

Because marijuana is evil, conceived of and hand-made by Lucy Herself. Smoking it makes you so lazy that you will die from munchies. It will make your testicles fall off, and makes men grow boobies. Just looking at a marijuana plant will invite demons into your soul, and make your I.Q. drop by eleventy points.

If we legalize it here in the U.S., everyone will instantly become devil worshiping, baby killing homosexuals. It will prevent the Rapture from ever happening, make Jesus turn away from us, and cause God to pee on us.

For a home grower, 4 plants. For a commercial growers, what do you suggest would be a fair price for a license for say 10 acres? But then again, how much does the Government charge for growing the same amount of Wheat and Barley that is being grown specifically to brew Beer and Whiskey?

Before it’s legalized, it’ll be studied to death.

Hey Charles,

I’m not even sure if i can bring myself to call it weird, particularly in context to Alaska and their fairly permissive leanings towards recreational drug use. What is unusual (or weird) is that Sarah Palin was willing to state those views in public, which is in direct conflict with the much more prohibitionist views of the far right.

I thinkre: #70 SanFranciscoZionist

I think she just assumes that whatever she and people in her immediate circle consider normal is not only normal but American, good, wholesome, and better than they way other people live.

She is her only point of reference.

I think SFV nailed it honestly. It’s a fantastic point and makes it clear why Sarah Palin felt comfortable saying something that could cause a serious kerfluffle with the rest of the Far Right.

Here’s hoping there’s more of that coming from her in the future.

Omg yes. The first year I grew zucchini I sort of forgot about them. By the time we picked them, they were the size of watermelons, and there were hundreds of them. It was ridiculous.

A favorite Marge Piercy poem:

Attack of the Squash People

And thus the people every year
in the valley of humid July
did sacrifice themselves
to the long green phallic god
and eat and eat and eat.
They’re coming, they’re on us,
the long striped gourds, the silky
babies, the hairy adolescents,
the lumpy vast adults
like the trunks of green elephants.
Recite fifty zucchini recipes!
Zucchini tempura; creamed soup;
sauté with olive oil and cumin,
tomatoes, onion; frittata;
casserole of lamb; baked
topped with cheese; marinated;
stuffed; stewed; driven
through the heart like a stake.
Get rid of old friends: they too
have gardens and full trunks.
Look for newcomers: befriend
them in the post office, unload
on them and run. Stop tourists
in the street. Take truckloads
to Boston. Give to your Red Cross.
Beg on the highway: please
take my zucchini, I have a crippled
mother at home with heartburn.
Sneak out before dawn to drop
them in other people’s gardens,
in baby buggies at churchdoors.
Shot, smuggling zucchini into
mailboxes, a federal offense.
With a suave reptilian glitter
you bask among your raspy
fronds sudden and huge as
alligators. You give and give
too much, like summer days
limp with heat, thunderstorms
bursting their bags on our heads,
as we salt and freeze and pickle
for the too little to come.

re: #232 Sand Panda

I always thought that the ridiculously over-the top moral code was a fairly arbitrary plot point which George Lucas had to throw into cannon when he realised he’d effectively created an order of super-warriors, able to subjugate the galaxy at the drop of a hat.

Their moral code was ridiculous and not even applied well, plus even the use of their powers in combat situations was sporadic. In the beginning of the movie, Jin and Obi Wan use the force to sprint at super speeds thru the Trade Federation ship, but some how, Obi Wan forgets he can move at super speeds when it comes time to fight Darth Maul, gets stuck behind the conveniently timed force field and Jin dies.

Hooray! I’ve been working on making the back garden as frog friendly as possible. The only thing missing is not enough vegetation growing to give them cover. It’s been a brutal spring here and I’m having a hell of a time growing anything. Hopefully I’ll catch up by the time they’re ready to leave the pond and go exploring.

I live near a river, and at night during the summer, all you can hear is the sound of bullfrogs on the banks of the river. I open my windows at night, and the sound lulls me to sleep. I love frogs. (Not just for the sound, or the personality, but also the lack of biting insects)

The more I can get these things written up in a document, the more I’m ahead of the game if we do have a Volume 3.
We will, however, need a volunteer with access to publishing software to convert

Well I have some recipes I can contribute, but publishing software is a bit beyond my expertise. Now if some of the other Lizards out there could point me in the general direction, perhaps I might find something that I could do to lend a hand.

I do have one question though and it must be answered by Charles before it can proceed beyond this point.

Will you, Charles, sanction the publication of recipes containing Marijuana in an LGF Cookbook?

Keith Olbermann flounces from Dkos….
Check, Please

I was checking in tonight to see what was new, came across a diary trashing first me and my colleague Rachel….

For years, from the Katrina days onward, whenever I stuck my neck out, I usually visited here as the cliched guy in the desert stopping by the oasis. I never got universal support, and never expected it, nor wanted it (who wants an automatic “Yes” machine?). But I used to read a lot about how people here would ‘always have my back’ and trust me this was of palpable value as I fought opponents external and internal who try to knock me and Rachel off the air, all the time, in ways you can imagine and others you can’t.

Now I get to read how we pre-planned our anger because ‘beating up on the President has been good for ratings’.

If I can understand people’s frustration with seeing a speech by a Democratic president criticized in a venue such as mine, why is it impossible for some people here to accept my frustration about the speech? You don’t agree with me, fine. You don’t want to watch because you don’t agree with me, fine. But to accuse me, after five years of risking what I have to present the truth as I see it, of staging something for effect, is deeply offensive to me and is an indication of what has happened here.

You want Cheerleaders? Hire the Buffalo Jills. You want diaries with conspiracy theories, go nuts. If you want this site the way it was even a year ago, let me know and I’ll be back.

re: #61 rwmofo

In the meantime, the Prez is losing his cred.

“French President Nicolas Sarkozy openly criticized Obama for months, including a direct attack on his policies at the United Nations. Sarkozy cited the need to recognize the real world, not the virtual world, a clear reference to Obama’s speech on nuclear weapons. When the French president is seen as tougher than the American president, you have to know that something is awry.

Ouch.

This was in reference to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1887 which was unanimously adopted by the UN Security Council on September 24, 2009. France is a permanent member of the UN Security Council. Sarkozy was present during this meeting and when it was adopted. If France and Sarkozy were true to their words then they should have voted no to Resolution 1887.

During this time Sarkozy stressed sanction against Iran and North Korea. At the same time he also voiced similar feelings regarding a nuclear free world:

“What I believe is that by having the courage to strengthen sanctions, together, against countries that violate Security Council resolutions, we will give credibility to our commitment to a world with fewer nuclear weapons and perhaps, one day, without nuclear weapons…”

See France is very active in all the formal and informal fora dealing with disarmament and non-proliferation in order to promote effective multilateralism in these areas. Action in multilateral fora Note 2.

Ha! Michelle Fucking Bachmann’s even trying to distance herself from her defense of BP.

Republican U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann said Thursday that she was not defending BP when she told the Washington Post this week that the oil giant should guard against being “fleeced” through a $20 billion BP-funded compensation pool announced by President Barack Obama.

“I said that I was concerned that Washington, the Obama administration, could use it as a permanent ATM,” Bachmann said. “I want to make sure everyone knows I’m not a shill for BP.”

Of course you aren’t a shill for BP, Michelle…they don’t hire batshit-crazy.

Bait some traps? You’ll have to close the whole operation down for spraying if you want to get rid of all those damn gizkas. Although hot buttered toast is awfully unseasonal at the moment. I keep on thinking of changing to something more springlike and invigorating (Lady Revan charging into battle, for example) but just can’t bring myself to say goodbye.
