Monday Night Music: Patty Griffin, ‘Up To The Mountain’

Music • Views: 3,115

Patty Griffin’s riveting performance of “Up to the Mountain” may bring tears to your eyes. A tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr., from the album Patty Griffin: Live From the Artists Den.

Youtube Video

I went up to the mountain
Because you asked me to
Up over the clouds
To where the sky was blue
I could see all around me
Everywhere
I could see all around me
Everywhere

Sometimes I feel like
I’ve never been nothing but tired
And I’ll be working
Till the day I expire
Sometimes I lay down
No more can I do
But then I go on again
Because you ask me to

Some days I look down
Afraid I will fall
And though the sun shines
I see nothing at all
Then I hear your sweet voice, oh
Oh, come and then go, come and then go
Telling me softly
You love me so

The peaceful valley
Just over the mountain
The peaceful valley
Few come to know
I may never get there
Ever in this lifetime
But sooner or later
It’s there I will go
Sooner or later
It’s there I will go

very nice, but i would have had her cut loose for a section in the middle there and still finish softly

Saw a TV show last night for the first time that I think even you would like.

Called "Treme". About the aftermath of Katrina, the music of New Orleans, the struggle of whether to try to come back. Actually thought of you while I watched it.

Bleak, but powerful stuff.

I might watch something like that....NOLA simply must survive. and the entire Gulf, but New Orleans is special and frankly I don't give a damn what it cost to make sure that becomes reality

Fictionalized, but feels very, very real.

He sure does have an amazing lot of power!

If he shows up, here's an answer to his question on the previous thread:

St. Francis of Assisi -
A biography. Out of print but there's a used one at the link.

And two others:

Devotions, Prayers and Living Wisdom

The Writings of St. Francis of Assisi

Yup. I had to reheat ribs and baked beans. Picked some carrots, green onions and mint for salad but I'm back now, Yum!

So Pajamas Media is now featuring someone from the stalker blog as an expert on global warming? Is that about right?

Hmm. I remember quite a few discussions in the early days of PJ Media about making sure to properly vet the participants in the blog network.

Apparently, they've now reached the point where they'll feature an outright stalker creep, who posts at a blog that features Serbian genocide videos, is run by psychotics who often threaten violence and boast about doing violence, and that got its start by blatantly ripping off hundreds of entire posts from LGF (no, I'm not kidding -- go browse their archives), and by ripping off LGF's very domain name.

I'm unsurprised, but disgusted nonetheless. I may have to do a post about this.

He also posts at another stalker blog that trashes Little Green Footballs, 24/7. He uses the name Iapyx.
He isn't much of a scientist, Ludwig tore apart his first post at PJ media. He also doesn't have much confidence in his scientific knowledge because he has refused my offer of a debate on Climate Change, at least a half dozen times.

It's a big deal. The new talking point will be BP's connections to Obama, and how the right got suckered into sticking up for them.

Brit Hume's "Where's the oil" and Limbaugh's "The oil is just as natural as the seawater" were way ahead of the curve.

Nah. Right now they're trying to start the meme that Obama should resign because of BP's problems.

When that fails, then they'll go for the no big deal talking point.

Lawrence reminds me of those engineers that used to write for the 911 truther sites a couple of years ago. They would put together a bunch of gobbledygook and everyone would shake their head in agreement because they would tell their audience what they wanted to hear anyway. At the same time they'd also stand in awe because of their credentials. Even though it's purely political pandering and neither science or engineering.

Apparently, one engineer and Pajamas Media know better than General Electric, Siemens AG, LS Industrial Systems Co. and even China. All of whom are moving ahead with smart grid technology which will be an elemental feature in how electricity is transferred in the coming decades. There's no way around it and no amount of editorializing will change that fact.

I just went over there... actually, I don't remember the last time I ever was there... but anyway... Bill Whittle is listed as one of their writers... way to go Bill... kills every bit of credibility you may have had in my book... another one bites the dust.

It has.

Definitely.

It's amazing just how unhinged some folks have gotten in the past two years. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it, even if I think back on the Clinton years.

I'll tell you where I just heard a bunch of gobbledygook - I just finished looking at a bit of TV, various stations, folks talking about the oil spill and what should be done

No one knows what they're talking about, they get things wrong, mixed up, criss-crossed -

Pay no attention, y'all, to what you hear on TV from the pundits on this oil spill. None of 'em have a clue.

Fave version of this song is from American Idol's big charity event from 2007 or 2008. Kelly Clarkson singing, with Jeff Beck on guitar. Chills and goosebumps.
