She opened her mouth like a firebucket and laughed. That terminated my interest in her. I couldn’t hear the laugh but the hole in her face when she unzippered her teeth was all I needed.

I just got back from the hospital. My mom was hit by a van while crossing the street. She's conscious and stable, and I'm really happy about, but lots of fractures all over the place. Arm, hips, ribs, and probably legs.

Ooh...sorry to hear that, Jason...Was the driver who hit her drunk? My step father got hit by a van seven years ago (he's 84 now)...he did recover, which is the important thing. Best to you and your mom.

Thanks. Her head and spine seem to be all there, and that's what I'd be most grateful for. No idea if he was drunk or not, but she was crossing at a "stop here on red" sign. Whether or not the light was red I don't know.

I broke my ankle when I was a youngin'. It was a pretty bad break, and I was in the hospital for the better part of two weeks. She has them in several places :( And they can't give her morphine because her blood pressure is too low.

Accidents like this are a stark reminder of how fragile life really is. And of how valuable our relationships are as well. If you've left a hug or a kiss undone for too long, or a reconciling word long overdue, please waste no time. For there's no time like the present to do the right thing. I say this as much to myself as to anyone else.

Texas Republicans, you never let me down.

Marriage Licenses – We support legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple and for any civil official to perform a marriage ceremony for such.

Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable “alternative” lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should “family” be redefined to include homosexual “couples.” We are opposed to any granting of special legal entitlements, refuse to recognize, or grant special privileges including, but not limited to: marriage between persons of the same sex (regardless of state of origin), custody of children by homosexuals, homosexual partner insurance or retirement benefits. We oppose any criminal or civil penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction, or belief in traditional values.

Notice the wording. "Refuse to recognize" with "but not limited to." That means they want to have to ability to "regulate" GLBTs. Which they've done in the past. And they even oppose civil penalties based on discrimination of gays. That means they want to limit their ability to sue even if justified.

This goes beyond mere opposition to gay marriage. This is an outright assault on GLBTs on all fronts.

Could you imagine? I mean. Being married to your white Christian husband or wife when suddenly a queer couple moves in next door. I mean, they work on their yard and keep a really nice garden but I just can't stop thinking about what they're doing late at night having sex as we learned at the Texans for Christian Liberty School. I just can't stop thinking about my queer neighbors having gay sex when I'm in bed laying next to my perfectly heterosexual spouse.

Heh. The 'thigh stroke'. I'm not posting the description of it, but that was George Rekers' favourite according to his luggage lifter.

I suggest "sharing the Gospel" as our new euphemism for getting busy.

I'd love to take credit but Box Turtle Bulletin thought of it too, and for the same reason:

here’s the best part. Once you slog your way through the rest of Rekers’ reply, past tons of eye-glazing Scriptual quotations, and past the part where he compares himself to John the Baptist and Jesus, Rekers says:

If you talk with my travel assistant that the story called “Lucien,” you will find I spent a great deal of time sharing scientific information on the desirability of abandoning homosexual intercourse, and I shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with him in great detail.

Uh huh. “Sharing the Gospel” would make another great euphamism, but it probably won’t catch on. Oh well, whatever lifts your luggage, George. Whatever lifts your luggage.

Homophobia is a mental illness. Seriously. It can be either inward self-hatred of a homosexual in denial or one that is heterosexual. Outward, or a form of anti-social homophobia. Or a combination of the two.

NATO, Afghan forces capture senior Taliban figure

KABUL, Afghanistan — NATO and Afghan forces captured a senior Taliban figure in an overnight raid, the international force said Tuesday in a statement.

The man had recently been appointed the Taliban's finance chief in northern Baghlan province, NATO said. He was captured in southern Helmand province along with two other suspected insurgents after a tip-off that he was staying in a compound in Nah-e Saraj district.

Yep, it's traditionally from religious teachings. However, it has worked it's way into popular culture and you will find some secularized homophobia -- although it's less frequent.

I also reckon that these knuckleheads in Uganda have never seen what goes on in Japan or Germany. Make that all around the world. As they say, it's not uncommon for heterosexuals to "toss the salad".

They're in denial. Sexuality isn't about ideology and vice versa. One doesn't predicate the other. People can believe in any ideology but it does not change the id. Trying to force a change of the id based on ideology never works and it hasn't for the past 2000 years or so.

Okay, that last one is news to me.

An Alabama minister who died in June of "accidental mechanical asphyxia" was found hogtied and wearing two complete wet suits, including a face mask, diving gloves and slippers, rubberized underwear, and a head mask, according to an autopsy report. Investigators determined that Rev. Gary Aldridge's death was not caused by foul play and that the 51-year-old pastor of Montgomery's Thorington Road Baptist Church was alone in his home at the time he died (while apparently in the midst of some autoerotic undertaking). While the Montgomery Advertiser, which first obtained the autopsy records, reported on Aldridge's two wet suits, the family newspaper chose not to mention what police discovered inside the minister's rubber briefs.

Etc.

I feel sorry for this guy, honestly. Imagine living while being so ashamed of your basic impulses.

Or he could have kept it private while others not judging him after finding out upon his death. He was more than his fetish but he enjoyed that fetish even though it was unfortunate that he died in that pursuit. Technically, having a partner could have prevented that by acting as a safety.

IIRC he was married and did this while the wife and kids were away for the weekend.

I don't know if he was gay or merely into the autoerotic thing and bondage. I didn't follow this despite the hilarity that ensued in some places over it, because it made me really sad.

People who are into that sort of thing usually take a lot of precautions. I suspect his wife had no idea about this proclivity but I'm not sure.
There appear to be a number of people who buy into the virgin/whore dichotomy-- this is true everywhere, but especially on the right. Consequently they think that 'good' women are ones you can't fuck, and sex is only good if it's dirty. Since the religious wingnuts often think sex is only 'allowed' in the context of marriage, it leads to them believing that sex is dirty in general, and fosters the double life situation. IMO.

Right, of course not. I'm inferring that he was a homophobe because he was a Baptist minister, friend of Falwell, and graduate of Liberty U.

Nothing in the manner of his death suggests to me that he was gay. There isn't any reason to conclude that.

But it's clear he was into kink, and he was engaging in a dangerous practice for which he should have had a partner. It's not a stretch to think that he was ashamed to tell a partner, and definitely not a stretch to conclude that this is an entire life (baptist minister, falwell, liberty u) which would foster that shame.

It doesn't matter what the deal is in this specific case really, which is one reason I haven't followed it. The point is that the religious right is sex phobic, not merely homophobic.

125 stonemason  Tue, Jun 22, 2010 2:50:23am

I was thinking about this the other day. In my humble opinion it is simple jealousy. The hetero/conservative can't be 'out' with his/her sexual deviations/desires/needs/wants and the Gay/Lesbian can flaunt it. I tend to think that the swinging republican who hides the lifestyle is simply jealous that it has to be hidden. Or the Dom/sud relationship has to stay in the bedroom for fear of social rejection by the society.

Think about it...some people enjoy the Dom/sub stuff, but others find it mysoginistic (if Male Dom) or demeaning, so the couple hides, or, to borrow a phrase, closets thier sexual desires. Watching the gay/lesbian community march in the streets (and more at those Folsom events) must be hard to deal with.

Does this mean we need to bring all sexual proclivities out into the open? Nope, I have no desire to know what my neighbors are doing, as long as they pick up the trash and cut the grass.

Fear and loathing on the sexually repressed right.

It should be noted that inward repression can occur regardless of ideology. The problem occurs is that within rightest sub-cultures there's a great deal of outside pressure which will exacerbate the repression.

I'm not necessarily talking about finding a community-- for me personally, the idea of membership in a community being predicated solely on my sexual desires is very weird; I (and others) are people with lots more to our lives than what we do in the bedroom. (or wherever, heh).

I'm thinking about the kind of relationship that a person could at least have with his or her partner.
I was checking out some weird fundie forums recently, either because of you or freetoken, and there is this very weird and very disturbing theme of people not being able to talk to their spouses about sex at all. It's part of the fundie mindset.

That being said, there are some Christian fundamentalists that are way into BDSM and kink and have websites promoting it (it fits their narrative of wives being submissive, etc). Which I think is great. Whatever, let a hundred flowers bloom.
Seems a lot better than being isolated and alone and afraid of your own urges at least. (and lying to your spouse about them).

People that are afraid to talk with their spouses or relationships is because of fear of rejection. In that case it takes a special kind of person to bring the need up and see where it goes. If they're rejected then they have to consider if it's that important to them that they may have to move on to another relationship to fulfill those needs.

And that leads to the question of what is 'kink'. Oddly, I consider homosexuality a kink, an expression of phyiscal desire that isn't expressly related to procreation. When emotional love enters the picture, well, is it still a kink? I can't answer that, but I don't think so, the individual actors will know which individual acts are 'kinky'.

Yep. The old "should I tell her (or him)" routine. Some of it could be really simple stuff like certain paraphilias. The biggest stumbling block is rejection. I think it's because the ego is generally more important for most people then the id. Thus, many times people will sacrifice those urges, or id, in favor of their egos.

And that leads to the question of what is 'kink'. Oddly, I consider homosexuality a kink, an expression of phyiscal desire that isn't expressly related to procreation.

Huh. Other 'kinks' then, in the hetero community:

Masturbation.
Oral sex.
Handjobs.
Anal.
Sex with any form of birth control.

Yeah, if we start the line where I did, you are dead on. But, and now I'm just getting loopy, what if conception happens while the couple is in full latex, harnessed to freshly sheered sheep?

Have at it, I say. Consenting adults out of the eyesight of impressionable children...

When emotional love enters the picture, well, is it still a kink? I can't answer that, but I don't think so, the individual actors will know which individual acts are 'kinky'.

That's only if you look at homosexual relationships on the basis of sexuality alone. Then it may look like a kink because it's foreign to you. The same would happen if a homosexual looked at heterosexual relationships based only on their sexual behavior. There's more to both as we know regarding nurturing, comfort, companionship, sharing, etc. Most modern couple practice sex for procreation on a selective basis. The rest of the time it's done so for recreational reasons or kinks.

Well, the american taliban would have them all executed, except for the fetus.
The fetus will of course be terminated in utero if it's gay.

The emphasis on sex as 'only' meaning procreation is messed up in so many ways. It finds its fullest expression in homophobia and anti-choice positions, but it's all over.

It's very strange that the same people who are so fervently anti-evolution tend to be wholly on board for a purely teleological notion of the purpose of sex.
Sex has so many dimensions for human beings and the physical act or acts is only one manifestation-- an extremely reductive one.

Yeah, I remember that study. I forgot what the excuse was for discrediting it but I got some heat for bringing it up not so long ago. The reasoning is obvious. Men don't get visually stimulated in Utah because of the social norms as they would in NYC or Paris. That's very important for men. It makes a big difference you know. I even notice it in Denver as opposed to thinking back on NYC of San Francisco and seeing the beautiful women in a dress walking down the street. You don't get that in Provo or even Denver.

Utahns, famous for their wholesomeness and frugality, buy online pornography at higher rates than the rest of America.

That's the conclusion of a Harvard economics professor who tracked subscriptions to online porn sites. Utah ranks No. 1 in subscriptions, according to Benjamin Edelman, who reported his findings in the article "Red Light States: Who Buys Online Adult Entertainment?," published in the most recent edition of the Journal of Economic Perspectives.

The most porn-watching ZIP codes in Utah, "with unexpectedly high subscriptions relative to their population and broadband usage," are 84766 in Sevier County, 84112 in Salt Lake County, 84018 in Morgan County, 84006 in southwest Salt Lake County, and 84536 in San Juan County.

A color-coded map in the journal article shows only two states with subscription rates higher than 3.6 per thousand home broadband users: Utah and Mississippi. Utah topped the list, with 5.47 users per 1,000. (Edelman says he took into account the amount of broadband access available in various regions and adjusted his data accordingly; porn users tend to favor high-speed data transfer that can download lots of the steamy visuals quickly.)
Story continues below

"Subscriptions are slightly more prevalent in states that have enacted conservative legislation on sexuality," Edelman writes. In the 27 states where "defense of marriage" amendments have been adopted, there were 11 percent more porn subscribers than in other states, he reports. Use is higher also in states where more people agree with the statement "I never doubt the existence of God."

heh.

[...]
maybe, says Logan psychotherapist Todd Freestone, the fact that porn is not as visible in Utah makes it more enticing. "If you're seeing it all the time" in cities like Las Vegas, he says, "and it flashes up on your computer screen, then it's not that big a deal."

Nice explanation! Reminder: Las Vegas? IT'S NOT IN UTAH.

Utah's No. 1 ranking doesn't surprise Freestone, who works with sex offenders at his Comprehensive Treatment Clinic. Freestone has done searches on Google Trends, typing in words ranging from "swimsuits" to "naked girls," and found that Utah ranked No. 1 or 2 in most searches. A similar exercise by Deseret News reporter Lee Davidson in 2007 found that Utahns were more prone to search for words like "topless" and "pornography" (as well as "Jesus" and "home storage").

"The forbidden is really tempting," University of Utah sociology professor Theresa A. Martinez told Davidson. "Where you have a culture that is known for family values, morality and apple pie, you will also have curiosity and interest in the forbidden."

That's my general idea for why wingnut sex scandals always involve wearing diapers, toliet-trading, rent boys. etc. When you're in a culture that makes sex dirty, you start to equate sex and sexual excitement itself with notions of 'dirt' or the forbidden.

Consequently getting a blowjob from a female intern just isn't enough of a thrill for the wingnut.

I'm pretty sure that study, whatever its issues, was wholly in line with other studies about online porn consumption. I can dig some up whenever necessary.

BTW, the southwest is also the Rape Capital of the US, according to just about any of the last ten years VCR's from the FBI (Violent Crime Report, compiling VC stats from all police depts).

I haven't seen a good explanation for that stat yet, but the fact remains that I'm safer in NYC or LA from rape than I am in some ditchwater town in the southwest (or even cities).

I don't know. The per capita incidence is way higher. I'd need to dig into it to find out what's going on.

A friendly, nice, wingnut-friendly explanation would say, "The SouthWest states are just better at reporting the stats, because the victims feel so very safe here they report more, and our fabulous police treat their complaints so very seriously!"

(the fbi's annual vcr is based on the stats that are reported to them; if a dept doesn't report, it vanishes).

In reality, I think what we see here is another wingnut myth being exploded. Turns out those evil coastal cities aren't such havens of crime. And maybe the reel true amurkins out there in the west aren't so gentlemanly after all. Who knew? /

New Mexico is more progressive than Arizona. A lot of people in Arizona are former Californians with an axe to grind for having left California. I don't see the appeal to either state. It's too hot, too flat, no water, no trees, too dry, too much sand and way too much poverty. New Mexico is one of the most impoverished states in the country.

Just a quick hello before I head off to work. JasonA, so sorry to hear about your Mom. I'll be praying for her quick recovery.

Later lizards!

Yeah, I can take care of the bills and stuff, but I can only visit her for, like, 10 minutes a day in the ICU.

I know you feel helpless right now to do anything, but ten minutes a day is probably all she can tolerate right now. That ten minutes is most important because it lets her know how much you care and that you are there for her. As she mends, you will be able to do much more, but don't underestimate the power of letting her know you love and care. The mind does as much healing as the body and love is the most powerful of all healers.

Given that Mr Obama is viewed by many Americans as lacking toughness, the temptation for the President will be to brutally dispense with McChrystal’s services in as public a manner as possible. Democrats are traditionally seen as weak on defence and too deferential to the military – will one fell swoop Obama could shatter that notion.

Among McChrystal's criticisms in the Rolling Stone interview:

The general said he felt "betrayed" by U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan Karl Eikenberry, a former three-star general. In a leaked document last year, Eikenberry said he distrusted Afghan president Hamid Karzai. "Here's one that covers his flank for the history books," McChrystal told Rolling Stone of Eikenberry.

McChrystal, the article reports, took control of the war, the article states, "by never taking his eye off the real enemy: The wimps in the White House."

An aide is quoted as calling National Security Adviser Gen. (Ret.) Jim Jones a "clown."

On Richard Holbrooke, the president's envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, a McChrystal staffer says he is a "wounded animal," dangerous because rumors speculated Holbrooke would be fired.

The general said that while he voted for Obama, the two men never hit it off in meetings last fall and he found the president unprepared.

This is a bush-league screw up by McChrystal. Why he would openly criticize the CinC in Rolling Stone of all places, is beyond me.

Nogales Police Chief Jeffrey Kirkham told the Nogales International on Friday that the threats stemmed from an incident approximately two weeks ago, when off-duty officers surprised marijuana smugglers while riding horseback in an unincorporated border area east of town.
The officers seized part of the drug load, and the smugglers were able to flee back into Mexico with the other part.

Billions for Green Energy Will Mean Millions of New Jobs… in China

In order for Congress to hand out money to green businesses, they must first take it from successful, job creating ones. Already burdened by some of the highest tax rates in the world, American businesses become even less internationally competitive for every dollar politicians take from them to waste on green technology.
In addition, President Obama’s plan to burden an already struggling nation with across the board energy costs that must “necessarily skyrocket” in an absurd attempt to save a world from global warming that does not exist, will also serve to damage the American economy.

After nearly nine years in Afghanistan, U.S. and NATO leaders still do not adequately understand or communicate with the Afghan people, according to classified coalition assessments. That cultural disconnect, along with the West's continued support for a corrupt central government in Kabul, has made it easy for the Taliban to recruit insurgents and prevent NATO from making significant gains, according to classified coalition assessments.

"We're getting beat up," said a U.S. military official with direct knowledge of a classified military report titled "The State of the Taliban," which was published late last year and updated in January. "They [the Taliban] know their own people -- they are culturally accurate. We know the facts but we are culturally inaccurate. The main message in the reports is that we don't fully understand our enemy and we are not clearly communicating our message to the people.

As a result of that,” Kirkham said, “our officers have received threats from the cartel that they are to look the other way if they are off-duty, or they will be targeted by a sniper or by other means.”

I consider Nogales a former home town. Rough, rough area. I was stationed on a base not far from there. One evening a marine unit was out doing patrol and stumbled upon a group of drug runners on donkeys that had crossed the border. The drug runners made a mistake of firing on the marines not realizing who they were firing on. The marines lit 'em up with an M60 and the whole episode ended with a couple dead donkeys and some drug runners in serious need of some new pants.

Amid crises, Obama declares war -- on Arizona

"There certainly seems to be an underlying disrespect for the state of Arizona," says Kris Kobach, the law professor and former Bush administration Justice Department official who helped draft the Arizona law. Kobach points out that during the Bush years, several states openly flouted federal immigration law on issues like sanctuary cities and in-state tuition for illegal immigrants. Respecting the doctrines of comity and federalism, the Bush administration didn't sue. Now, when Arizona passes a measure that is fully consistent with federal law, the Obama administration, says Kobach, "goes sprinting to the courthouse door."

In Canada the government has a procedure called a Constitutional Reference whereby the government refers a law directly to the Supreme Court for an opinion on its constitutionality.

Agree. If the theory is that the AZ law is pre-empted by Federal law and/or attempts to legislate in a space reserved to Congress by the Constitution (or is otherwise violative of the US Constitution) then the US AG is an appropriate plaintiff to challenge the law.

Opening the border is an idea that should probably be thought all the way through before you suggest it.

Are we ready to have our population triple overnight? If I were an underclass person in a third-world country, and the USA announced it was opening its borders, my family would be here on the first transport we could find, our own feet if necessary.

I think we need immigrants. I like immigrants. I am delighted to find I am living next to them yet again. (Vietnamese this time. The French and the Nigerians were good neighbors, so I'm hopeful.) My question I have for you all. In this case is there a difference in being Monetary vs. Non Monetary in terms of P.A.C. (political action committee) status vs. Church status, in regards to 'tax exemption'?

Insane? Americans are becoming whiny, weak and lazy. A good infusion of blood from immigrants who understand life is tough and you have to actually bust your ass to survive is almost a desperate need at this point. Those are the people who made us who we are and right now we need more asians, africans, and eastern europeans. Bring 'em.

Is that what you meant when you stated that you were in favour of the borders being "opened right up"?
So if I understand you correctly you want to bring in a whole shitload of starving little slaves from all over the world to bail lazy fat-ass
America out of its current crisis.
BTW is there some reason you omitted to mention Latinos in your list of required immigrant ethnicities?

I should have read the entire question before I responded. I left latinos out only because I'm concerned we're short changing the opportunities for the rest of the planet by continually bringing in immigrants from one hemisphere. Also, no matter what we do there will always be a way for those in desperation south of our borders to make it here. It's not like the guy in Zimbabwe can just get on a bus and make it to our border.

Rep. Hoyer: Expect tax hikes, including on the middle class.

In the shorter term, Hoyer raised the possibility that Congress will only temporarily extend middle-class tax cuts set to expire at the end of the year. He pointedly suggested that making them permanent would be too costly.

Tax cuts enacted under former President George W. Bush are scheduled to expire at the end of the year, affecting taxpayers at every income level. President Barack Obama proposes to permanently extend them for individuals making less than $200,000 a year and families making less than $250,000 — at a cost of about $2.5 trillion over the next decade.

"As the House and Senate debate what to do with the expiring Bush tax cuts in the coming weeks, we need to have a serious discussion about their implications for our fiscal outlook, including whether we can afford to permanently extend them before we have a real plan for long-term deficit reduction," said Hoyer, a Maryland Democrat.

The tax cuts will be a big political issue in many congressional elections this fall, providing potential fodder for both political parties. Democratic leaders have yet to lay out a schedule for dealing with the tax cuts, but many rank-and-file Democrats want to extend them before the elections, so they can campaign on passing tax cuts for the middle class.

Republicans argue that many of the high earners who would face tax increases under Obama's plan are small business owners struggling to stay afloat in a tough economy.

Just keep ignoring profligate spending as part of multiple entitlement programs and all those tax hikes will never keep up with the spending.

Democrats, Unions: Pay freeze is "demoralizing".

John Gage, president of the American Federation of Government Employees, said Republicans were "wrong to put a burden on this politically convenient group of employees who perform such important work for the American public every day."

"Any efforts to freeze federal pay to finance the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, or for general deficit reduction, amount to imposing a special tax increase on just one group of people when all Americans must pay their fair share to fund government operations," Gage said.

He joins a cast that includes Neil Patrick Harris, Hank Azaria and Sofia Vergara in live-action roles as well as Katy Perry, Fred Armisen, George Lopez, Anton Yelchin, Alan Cumming, Jeff Foxworthy, Wolfgang Puck and Jonathan Winters lending their voices.

Raja Gosnell is helming the pic, which is shooting in New York.

Good showing in quality rating should spur Detroit automakers to continued improvements
It was a long time coming, but the domestic automakers have finally surpassed foreign-based brands in the average number of problems per 100 vehicles in the first 90 days of ownership. Detroit vehicles averaged 108 problems; foreign-based brands averaged 109.
Congratulations are in order. If quality improvements are steady, the public will grasp that fact and reward the Detroit firms, as long as their prices stay in line.

Those hardscrabble sons of the soil sure don't have enough extra money on hand...I mean, 4 paid union chumps just to sit on a street corner?

Yes. I can confirm that it's been this way since I registered, at any rate.

That is one reason why many of our liberals, particularly the newer ones, don't post here in the morning. Some people try it in the mornings for a couple of days from work and then never come back.

You sure they're actually union members? Reminded me of this story:
Union Outsources Picket Lines to the Homeless
[Link: www.npr.org...]

About 30 people picket in front of a bank in downtown Washington, D.C., wearing big yellow signs that read: "Mid-Atlantic Regional Council of Carpenters."

They shuffle about in circles, many wearing hooded sweatshirts and jeans. Their coats are draped over parking meters; their belongings sit in plastic grocery bags on the sidewalk. I ask a protester named Mike Hodge why he's there.

"We're protesting, we're protesting…" Then the energy leaves his voice and he concedes, "I don't know."

No wonder.

Hodge isn't a carpenter; he's a rent-a-picket.

As long as people stay within the confines of the rules around here, I feel it's a pity to either favor or discourage what could be felt by some to be extreme views at either end of the political spectrum. This variety is the interest and richness of this forum; in the end, it just comes down to people - and I'm interested enough in reading what they have to say to be able to accept for example both Ice and Mandy in the same thread - as long as they refrain from ad feminem attacks.

re: #439 albusteve

And now the rest of the story:

Top vehicles - 2010 initial survey. No Chrysler in any segment. GM had only 3 vehicles: Large Crossover/SUV - 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe; Large Pickup (tie) 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche and 2010 GMC Sierra 1500

By brands:
[Link: www.autoblog.com...]

Industry average is 109.

The domestics did better on average than the foreign brands because of Ford (93) and Lincoln (106). The GM brands did worse than the industry average (111 for Chevy, 111 for Caddy). Chrysler did much worse than the industry average (122); Jeep 129 and Dodge at 130.

Foreign brands got whacked primarily due to the Toyota problems.

So, attributing domestics doing better than foreign is tantamount to showing that Ford got the job done. And done well. Ford deserves the kudos. GM not so much. Chrysler - not at all.

Epsom Salt for Bruises
A simple Epsom salt bath applied to the area of the sprain or the bruise will provide relief to the impacted area, helping to reduce swelling and minimize the soreness.
Won't necessarily help if your injury is tear in soft tissue. Be sure to rinse.

Part I: “The foolish and wicked practice of profane cursing and swearing is a vice so mean and low that every person of sense and character detests and despises it” George Washington

Part II: During some battle of the Rev war (too lazy to go look it up), the general in charge panicked and was just generally screwing up. A soldier later reported that Washington cursed the air blue. It was, apparently, quite a tirade.

Make of that what you will.

There's another problem that has nothing to do with the numbers.

Normal people who come here in the morning, if they're on the left, will come by a few times, see the lovely acronymns some are still using for the POTUS, or a few 'accidental' Rachel Corrie jokes, and find the same spammed wingnut conspiracy links.

Some people don't mind swimming upstream against all that. I suspect many more just never come back.

I think people forget that many more people read here than register or comment. There's never less than a thousand people reading here at any given time even if it's the dead of night and only a few people are commenting.
