Deranged Talking Points Hatching on Twitter
The #tcot (Top Conservatives On Twitter) feed on Twitter can be fascinating; it’s a glimpse into the raw unedited id of the modern right wing, and you can often see wingnut talking points and conspiracy theories emerging from this roiling subconscious primordial stew before they spread to the wingnut blogosphere and then to Fox News.
Following the ouster of General Stanley McChrystal, the #tcot crowd is all taking the side of McChrystal, of course, against President Obama. Here are some of the talking points and conspiracies you can expect the right wing to adopt and promote in the near future:
• McChrystal was fired because Obama’s ego was injured, or because McChrystal “told the truth.” McChrystal’s blatant insubordination, which would normally be a huge factor in the #tcot authoritarian world view, is simply ignored.
• Obama once criticized Gen. Petraeus. (Don’t worry, they’ll find some way to make that relevant.)
• Obama put Gen. Petraeus in charge to keep him out of the 2012 presidential election.
And then we have the crazier element, who are posting comments like this:
So does this mean McChrystal is free to lead a military coup and kick out the Obama admin now?
