Ron Paul Casts Sole ‘No’ Vote on Oil Spill Subpoena Power

Politics • Views: 2,747

Crazy Uncle Ron Paul continues demonstrating why his star is on the rise in the Republican Party — because he doesn’t care about the fallout. He’ll go right to the most extreme position every time, and leave the door open for the rest of the GOP to follow: Rep. Paul Casts Sole ‘No’ Vote on Oil Spill Subpoena Power.

When the House agreed to give subpoena powers to President Barack Obama’s newly formed oil-spill commission, 420 members voted for the plan and only one voted against it: Texas Republican Ron Paul.

A spokeswoman for Paul declined to elaborate on the congressman’s vote.

Of course he voted against it.

Just watch — he’ll claim that it’s because those kinds of subpoena powers aren’t specifically listed in the Constitution, and he’ll have his deluded minions nodding their head and agreeing with him for it. Pathetic.

Subpoena merely means you can demand information.

True. Unfortunately, a lot of his minions are active in the Tea Party movement. Having them agree with him is actually worse than those other 420 people, because it’s the grassroots that are driving the kinds of candidates we’re seeing for office.

He brazenly stands for the unrestricted liberty of plutocrats to destroy the works of G-d, rape the environment, cause the destitution of millions. That is the America that Libertarians stand for.

For these hateful monsters, avarice, callousness, and contempt is considered a virtue to be cloaked in the proud language and lofty ideals of better men. They speak of equality when they consider others to be expendable lesser beings.

They are shallow reflections of morality that speak of liberty. They are rejectors of the social contract that feel they can survive on the entropic heat death of anarchy in America. They are amoral like a bacterial infection and oblivious that as a parasite they will kill their host. Unlike a bacteria though, they have the audacity to claim morality.

He isn’t that bright. I’ll give him above average intelligence - which does make him stand out in political circles - particularly right wing ones, but he is not that bright.

He is at best good at memorization - I admit that he had to pass a medical board. However, no one with real intelligence says things as fundamentally illogical as he does or is as devoid of critical thinking skills.

actually, yes, there is something wrong with that, when you lump them all int the same bucket, it basically means you’re just giving up on critical thought and covering for extremes

“Well, sure, these guys are like klansmen and they’re stoking outright violence and racism and dogwhistling people to take up arms against the government, but hey! Democrats did a thing! Maybe! I don’t know! Don’t care! All politicians suck, they’re all the saaa-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-ame…”

My first impression was apparently correct. You are well to the right of center, politically, in terms of partisan allegiance, and yet lack the spine to admit it. You think “Yawn” is an argument, and you think ennui is a virtue. I don’t give a shit how long you have been here, nor does anyone else. I know a bitter soul when I see it, and I recognize the forced smile of a hidden shiv. I’ve seen the way you treat people, and it isn’t genuine. Neither the anger, not the contrition that follows is genuine. It’s discomfort within your own skin. I have seen it a thousand times before.

And of course, you will deny every word I am writing here.

Grow some balls Walter, and say what you believe. People will respect you for it, even if they disagree. It’s a liberating thing, admitting you have opinions, and beliefs.

Of course, none of this matters. You’ll just identify me as the asshole here.

No… there is not a fucking thing wrong with it. Critical thinking and the reality of the situation has brought me to the conclusion that there is very little “good” going on among any of the asshole that are in Washington, House, Senate and Administration.

And evidently I do find things to be supportive about, on both sides, and I will give credit when/where credit is due, and have, here, many times.

But yes, I take the “all politicians sucks” position until one of those sucky politicians prove me otherwise.

Imagine my surprise. /sarcasm

I’m going to engage in a little heresy here.

I regard ‘libertarianism’ as one of the most successful product rebrandings in history.

My own take on the ‘libertarians’ is that they are anarchists. They want to do what they want to do when they want to do it. Some have an honest belief that this will ‘balance out’ if everyone acts this way but most are just cynically looking for an excuse to act in an unethical manner.

However anarchy has a bad reputation these days, for understandable reasons. You can’t claim to be an anarchist without people looking at you funny and hiding any nearby sharp objects.

So, ‘libertarianism’ was created. This gave the ‘libertarians’ two advantages.

The first is that rebranding cut them off from history. The baggage that is attached to anarchy was shed. ‘Libertarianism’ was a new, different and better thing than anarchy.

The second is that by using the word ‘liberty’ in the new name they automatically placed anyone that disagreed with them on the side of evil. If you call them on their bullshit they can scream, “You hate freedom!”

Dashed clever of them.

Okay, enough heresy for one day.

True. Unfortunately, a lot of his minions are active in the Tea Party movement. Having them agree with him is actually worse than those other 420 people, because it’s the grassroots that are driving the kinds of candidates we’re seeing for office.

Not only that, but he has a huge influence on young college students. His “campus campaign” is very appealing to those who admire his stance on war, and drugs.

If I lean in one direction more time than most, left if we have to give it a name, even issue wise, it would be on social issues. But even there, I’m not in agreement with every social issue. Even in that arena I have a few limits.

I’m not even sure if my socially liberal tendencies really have much to do with politics. It has more to do with how I perceive those issues, and what I consider acceptable to my sensibilities, and even then, I’m not the final answer for socially liberal issues, just my socially liberal issues.

Other than social issues, I play all over the spectrum, so I am certainly not evenhanded, if you are looking for a balance scale that weights exactly in the middle, well, no, you won’t find that in me.

Hey, look, here is an email that Sully posted from one of those “spoiled” unemployed folks that Rand Paul and Sharon Angle think needs to get up off their lazy asses and go get one of them there “honest” jobs:

” Today I receive my last unemployment check. I’ve used up all available extensions. My position was eliminated on Feb. 1, 2009. Since then I’ve diligently searched for work. I have a MA and 23 years experience. I’ve had three interviews and no offers. My savings, including retirement, is gone. I had to sell my house. I’ve moved from Michigan to Massachusetts into the home of my parents, who at 81 and 71 live on their investments (which have been dwindling in this economy.) At a time when I should be getting ready for my retirement and taking care of my parents, I’m back at square one.

This is certainly not where I had planned to be. This is certainly not the American dream I was raised to believe in, one whose premise is that if you work hard, get a good education, you will succeed.”

Yeah. I bet that is true even for teabags in the Gulf. Somehow they will try to blame this on Obama, when it was an act of congress - made under W, with a GOP majority in the house, that had the oil companies leading the cleanups.

Somehow they will try to blame Obama while supporting the people who actually hurt them.

Chickoree and Hickoree flavored coffees are great Southern traditions.

However, if you have never had Kona (Hawaii), Jamaican Blue Mountain, Ipenema Bourbon (Brazil) you are missing out terribly.

I am a giant coffee snob.

If you like Chikoree coffees and nutty flavors, you would probably particularly like the Kona.

Also, you can never go wrong by putting one drop of hazelnut extract onto your beans before brewing.

I can’t believe it cost 20 bucks a pound for Kona Coffee…
I love Kona Coffee

That’s not a bad deal.

Have you tried some of the better Peruvian beans?

In the sense that you will not gain friends. Walter stepped in it and is getting a little beat down. Best to let it pass.

No, I don’t let it pass when I see people I respect being abused by hostile sociopaths.

Lol. You guys must keep entire files of what people said.

At the time, I was surprised to be attacked by someone (Ice) with whom I had extremely cordial relations up until then. As for you, joined at the hip as you two have become, well, you came with the territory.

I’ve since decided not to sink to your level. Except perhaps to post a little good music, now and then. Enjoy.

It’s threads like these that make me wish here were weed stores in every state in the union.

BTW, buying weed with a Visa card is pretty trippy!

re: #103 Walter L. Newton

No one is forced to do anything… period… there are always options. Those options may not be the most comfortable, those options may result in pain or maybe even death, but there is always an option, you are not forced to do anything. Many people are forced into something, because they let someone, something force them.

So, if someone gets taken by a straight-up con man, it’s the screwees fault?

You seem to hate hypocrisy worse than anything! I descended to your level once. Try to find another example. But you, you just keep it coming, don’t you?

The end justifies the means, much?

That one example jimmah will resurrect over and over again. It’s what they do. Anger and troll until you say something angry they can cite out of context in perpetuity.

I go out for a little while to have lunch and suddenly several threads are turned to shit by pointless squabbling.

AGAIN.

Why do you people think anyone cares about this crap except you? Why are you having these tantrums in public, on MY site? Do you think it makes you look good?

The right-wing position seems to be: spend government money by the trillions to fight wars abroad, crack down on gays, and police abortions. But it’s evil to spend a dime of government money on the environment, even in the face of the Gulf oil spill.

Whoo-hoo! Got approved for an FHA loan this morning…looking forward to paying 4900 a month in mortgage if they accept the offer on the house we’re looking at. Exciting shit!

Neat! I heard mortgage rates hit a record low today.
