Allahpundit Spins Judge Napolitano’s Defense of BP As Napolitano Appears on Alex Jones Show

Wingnuts • Views: 3,011

At right wing site Hot Air, token atheist Allahpundit tries his best to spin an appearance on Fox News by Judge Andrew Napolitano, in which Napolitano defends BP: Shep to Napolitano: You’re grossing me out by defending BP.

He’s not really defending BP, actually, just noting that between the liability cap and the feds’ regulatory scheme for drilling, safety incentives for oil companies are, shall we say, sub-optimal.

Right! Napolitano is one nuanced extremist, all right.

Meanwhile, as Allahpundit was trying to launder this wacko’s statements for his wingnut audience today, Napolitano was appearing on the show of 9/11 Truther and antisemitic conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, talking about impeaching President Obama.

It can’t be Hot Air/Salem Communications without the requisite homophobic and sexist commentary:

Fox has really turned into a pile. The list of unwatchable shows grows every year. F & F, Shepina (2 hours!) and Ted Baxter- all are awful.
Maybe Rupert can start doing illegal alien amnesty shows since he’s so keen on it now.

Yep. Never you mind the SCOTUS’s recent clarification of the 2nd amendment, the govt is taking our guns away and making us sheep. Got it.

The good news, if there is any, is that “videogameguru” is probably not stepping out of mommy’s basement anytime soon…

The first comment for the Alex Jones video at YouTube:

Anyone who seeks an event like that is a monster. Revolutions kill and they should not be sought while non-drastic means are available to curb injustice. Of course, I don’t actually think Obama is being unjust; he is simply wrong politically in my eyes and that is solely a matter for voting and the political process.

My hope and prayer is that the anonymity of the web exacerbates this kind of extremist commentary, giving people (I use that term loosely) a sense of freedom to say the most outlandish things, but with the vast majority never actually acting on their bizarre verbiage. Sadly, the advent of the online world I think may actually make that possibility more likely, the acting out part that is, with the sub-grouping and cocooning we see more and more. No culture is ever completely immune to our darker impulses. Once again, please make friends with those who disagree with you. It’s good for you and good for them.

Shep’s a Southern boy, born and raised in Mississippi. He’s probably more pissed off about the BP disaster and all the GOP apologies and excuses than he ever was about Katrina. I’m not surprised he wasn’t buying the bullshit that Napolitano was selling.

Also, the fact that Fox News is treating Alex Jones like a serious thinker instead of the raving conspiracy crank that he is should make anyone with a functional IQ over 100 change the channel, or find another news source. I can’t believe that he’s gained any legitimacy at all.

What scares me in watching it is how we as humans are always so prone to give ourselves in to this kind of thinking and behavior. re: #26 laZardo

Then why is this sort of thing the only thing we’re hearing out of conservative outlets? This isn’t just a loud minority if they were able to get Rand Paul elected.

Here’s something that runs counter to what Luap Dnar says:

The Right’s Civil Wrongs

Civil rights are a problem for the American Right: a political problem, an intellectual one, a moral one. In the civil-rights debates of the 1950s and 1960s, many conservatives — including William F. Buckley Jr., other figures associated with this magazine, and Sen. Barry Goldwater — took positions that the vast majority of conservatives now reject. Most contemporary conservatives who know this history regret it and find it embarrassing.

In some cases these conservative positions were motivated by straightforward support for an official policy of white supremacy, or by a desire to enlist segregationist southern Democrats in the burgeoning conservative movement. But some people held these positions while also sincerely wishing for segregation to end. They believed that their conservative principles — principles that do not on their face entail hostility to blacks — compelled opposition to the civil-rights movement’s platform. Most critics place Goldwater in this group.

Please read this article, it’s very good.

re: #65 Rightwingconspirator

I hope you saw DL’s break with the GOP today. Jobs bill thread. She had stuck with it hoping to wait out the insanity, I had bailed a couple years ago. For her this was big. The discussions we would have! Anyway we are both now at heart post wing “sensible” conservatives. She’ll make hersd official shortly.

Now this leaves us in agreement with many, and disagreement with plenty around here. What this also does is present the voting booth dilemma- Are we willing to walk away from two unsuitable candidates in the general? Brave enough to walk away from a senate vote or governors vote entirely? If and when neither can meet our minimum standards to get the vote we withhold the vote.

I did see that—or the beginnings of that— and updinged her in that thread. I also saw she’s feeling poorly (sore throat) so please give her my best.

Give her my sympathy too. It’s really hard and awful to feel without a party or to become alienated from the one you considered ‘home’. (A lot of people on the left went through that too, from 2001-2006 or so).
There aren’t easy answers for what to do, but I believe activism is hugely important, and especially the internet (which really helped the left).
It’s a long and hard road.
(I’m not a Democrat myself and I have big issues with the Democratic Party so I know a little bit what it feels like.)

Conservatives here could make a start on that activism right here, on their LGF pages and networking with other conservatives.

Ok after watching 3:19 of this video and taking copious notes here is what I have gotten so far:

Kagan = Blue helmets taking over America.
Kagan = Overturning free speech rulings.
Kagan = Using powers not given by the constitution to do whatever she wants.
Kagan = Censoring free speech and supporting the Obama “Kill switch” for the entire internet, and also for installing a “black box” in your home that will censor what you can see on the internet.
Kagan = Tyranny by the executive branch.
Kagan = Less than 38% support overall by voters and should not be confirmed.
Kagan = Even though a “black box” that censors and keeps track of all your internet links is unconstitutional she would approve it anyway.

Jesus effing Christ, and that is only a third of the video, I really couldn’t stand anymore. The dipshits who listen to and believe in this crap in a perfect world would not be allowed to vote. To bad we would still have to allow them to breed in hopes that their offspring weren’t quite as afflicted…

Very weird decade. The things that went on every day in middle school would probably make the National news today. We were all delinquents. Even the smart kids. When I tell young people some of the stories about the shenanigans we got into all the time, they just shake their head in disbelief.

Like getting high with the football coaches after games in 8th grade. Or throwing snowballs at cars after school every day in the winter. Or being gone from morning to night riding our bikes 20 miles from home in the Summer with the folks having no idea at all where we were. Or seeing who could rip off the most stuff from a store, with a winner take all for the prize. I could go on all day. We were horrible kids by todays standards. And that was at a Catholic school. The public school kids were even worse!

Posted a new LGF page about a certain war anniversary coming up…

Me too.
Most of the observances and comments around the net have been pretty dignified but neo-McCarthyites just cannot resist the urge to rear their brainless heads.
A lot of this takes the form of UN bashing, as though the UN had been the enemy in Korea. I caught this at an unlinkable wingnut site:

The UN mandated Korean Police Action should have been the
signal to get out of the UN.
The USSR as a member of the security council of the UN was
given information of all troop movements.

The only POTUSA to give the UN any problem was Ronald Reagan
when he kicked out UNESCO, G.W. Bush invited them back.

This has it backward, it was the Truman administration that sought (successfully) to involve the UN. The claim about the Soviets getting information on troop movements is straight from the mouth of McCarthy’s whisky-sodden ghost and has no basis in fact. The Inchon landing, for example, caught the communists completely by surprise.

Yeah, it’s a load of BS. Plus it was pretty quite in here and that was just said to stir things up. We’re on what? Day 2 of that “right wing” thing that was brought up by one person? Let me reiterate. One person. Not 2. Not 3. Just one.

Yeah. Histrionic, narcissistic drama. Also a passive aggressive way of undermining the site.

The vast majority of people here are here because they WANT to engage with people with different ideas. And that means especially the people on the left— because on the left there are lots of sane sites to hang out on, whereas on the right there are not. That’s just a fact at the moment.
So why aren’t people on the left over on the left sites? We’re here (I presume) because we don’t want an echo chamber.

You’re not the only one. Sting’s been quoted as saying that whenever some couple tells him that was their wedding song, he just smiles and wishes them luck.

It’s amazing how much that song’s been misinterpreted over the years.

I always liked the line about not getting married again and instead finding a woman I don’t like all that much and buying her a house. Luckily I like Mrs. Barnum just fine, even after 10 years.

I’m sure you know of a couple of people that I’m thinking about especially when it comes to atheism. If calm is maintained or perhaps injecting some humor the next day all is well. I think when anyone becomes obsessed one way or the other that’s when things get out of hand. Especially holding grudges and not letting things go days after a flare up.

re: #142 Mich-again

Indeed. During my junior year in ghigh school, I wrote a story in which the school’s delinquents and social outsiders staged a commando style attack one morning and assassinated the martinet of an assistant principal by shooting him in the gut with a flare pistol. I graphically described him falling to the floor and writhing as great billows of red smoke poured from his belly.
The attackers then rounded up all the cheerleaders and rich kids and sold them to a group of Arab and Mexican slave traders who had been invited to an auction in the school auditorium. They split up the money and hitched a ride to Brazil with one of the slavers, concluding the story with a beer bust on Copacabana beach.
All I got for this lurid flight of fancy was a lecture from the principal (who chuckled part of the time) and five demerits (It took 50 to get you expelled).
Today, of course, something like this would bring the SWAT team, the entire global media, and a major lockdown, with 10 years on probation and at least 100 years in counseling for the miscreant author.

Hey, I’m all for a good knock-down, drag-out brawl once in awhile. You can’t be at LGF for too long and not feel passionately about one thing or another. But you gotta remember that nobody pulls punches, nobody gets handicaps, and your position it not always gonna be popular. If you get too worked up, then walk away for a bit, or do some therapeutical screaming, or have a drink. Just don’t hold a grudge, don’t think everybody’s out to get ya, and find some common ground.

It’s possible to disagree with a person in the strongest terms, yet at the end of the day, be able to have some fun together.

Yeah, I know. It’s not uncommon to get baited or trolled. The passive trolling can be rather irritating as can the martyrdom. Sure. Those cases are someone who’s angry about what Charles has posted, and because they’re too chickenshit to complain directly, they attack other people. It’s been a pretty common tactic here. IIRC you mentioned that it used to happen to you a lot. Still does.

I still play in a bar band around here, have for years, so I speak with experience here. Never invite a guest harmonica player on stage. Once they get on stage, they won’t leave. And while they might add a nice touch to a blues song, 8 songs later when you’re playing The Rover by Led Zeppelin, the guy is still there, blaring the harmonica into the mic and no one can hear the vocals. I’ve been down that road a dozen times and it always ends the same. You practically have to throw them off stage once you invite them up.

She reminds me a lot of my ex, seriously, Lisa was a lot like that before I sucked all the life out of her. I had a business to build, which took 18 hours a day, and she got some of my spare time. After 13 years she met a guy on Yahoo (on the “pets and animals group” believe or not) and just drove away one day.

Took me about a year to get over being hurt and pissed and see it from her side, she tells me that she is extremely happy, she tells me that he makes her metal flowers with his welder in his spare time at work. She sounds like the girl I married, not the bitter dragged down nag I had gotten used too.

Sigh…I really fucked that one up didn’t I?

Yeah. That a favorite of the mouth breathers.

That wiki article you linked is hilarious, unintentionally. My fave bit might be this:

In John Ringo’s military science fiction series Legacy of the Aldenata, the Aldenata are described disparagingly as “galactic tranzis”.

Tom Kratman references tranzi in “Caliphate”, a near future science fiction novel. In the afterword, which is not fiction, he describes how the tranzi’s policy of appeasement and inertia cause the takeover of Europe to Islamic control.

lol.

I don’t predict a good outcome for this one, especially since parental consent isn’t part of the plan:

Memphis Educator Wants Corporal Punishment in ‘War Zone’ Schools

Whalum’s resolution has generated a heated debate along the banks of the Mississippi River. “Bringing corporal punishment back to the city schools is a good way to bring discipline to kids who desperately need it,” said Greg Nelson of Cordova. “There is nothing wrong with spanking for discipline. After all, it is Biblical and there is nothing wrong with that.”

Wendi C. Thomas, a columnist for The Commercial Appeal, addressed the controversy in a recent column titled, “Spare the rod, save it for the parents.” Schools “should not be in the beating business,” she wrote, suggesting that parents need to do a better job of parenting. “Personal and parental responsibility is what’s needed, not paddles for principals.”

What?

Mr. Brown who was the principal at my elementary school had a giant “whiffle” (cricket) bat with holes drilled in it. Corporeal punishment was still very much in favor back then. If your teacher sent you to see the principal you were going to get your ass paddled until you cried, God forbid you tried to hold out and not cry, because you weren’t leaving until you did. Mr. Brown wanted to make sure that you were truly repentant of your previous behavior.

re: #126 reuven

Did this all begin with Robert Bork? Or am I too young (I’m 47) to remember earlier cases of extreme criticism of confirmation candidates. (And I’m withholding opinion over whether Bork was treated fairly or not.)

Bork was the first really systematic, organized bullsh** festival on the part of the Left when it came to SCOTUS confirmation hearings. As I recall, some previous nominees came under fire, some for “crimes” like being Jewish (several nominees) or black (Marshall), some for being involved with shady characters, such as when LBJ picked his buddy, Abe Fortas (then an Associate Justice) to be Chief Justice (1966 or ‘67). The Democrats tried to portray Fortas, a known political bagman, as being persecuted for his religion, until the allegations turned out to be true.

One of the slickest moves in nominations was President Reagan picking Sandra Day O’Connor. He broke the supposed glass ceiling by naming someone whom the Democrats couldn’t go after for fear of alienating their female base, and whom the Republicans couldn’t reject for fear of alienating The Big Guy. The so-called Arch-Conservative broke new ground for the Women’s Movement that hated him so much—and made a wise choice of jurists as well.

Anyway—Until Bork, the Senate usually acquiesced when the President made a pick. Since then, it’s become a shooting gallery.

Heh. Given the divorce statistics these days, they’re probably just a sign of the inevitable.

During a long car ride to be in a college friend’s wedding (with two other groomsmen and their wives), we put together an amazing list of “Songs Not To Play On Valentine’s Day”. I wish I still had that list. It was awesome 60s-70s-early 80s stuff. I know it started with Led Zep’s “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You”.

So I am standing outside in front of the stairs smoking a cigarette when one of six inch lizards (wanna-be dragons) from the hedges runs across my bare foot. Next thing I know there is a four foot long snake taking the same path and trying to go right over my foot.

So of course I scream like a little girl and kick the snake off, the snake flies about eight foot in the air and then lands on the stairs hard. I’m looking at the snake and realize it is only a black snake that was out chasing lizards. Now he/she is up on the fifth stair with the wind knocked out of it and I’m responsible.

After about 30 seconds the snake gets it’s second wind and shoots right off the side of the stairway and into the bushs, back on the hunt for the horrible dragon lizards. I wish him luck, and feel bad about launching him into the air before, but what did he expect?

Seriously though I really do wish him luck, the lizards around here aren’t scared of anything, they will come out on the sidewalk and challenge your foot to a fight. They bob up and down, if you lift your toes up and down in response and next thing you know the stupid lizard is trying to bite one of your toes. Nevermind that there are five toes to only one of him, attached to a leg, attached to a human who outweighs him by about a million times.

Oh well, at least Florida is entertaining even in the boring times if nothing else…
