Pajamas Media Converges with Alex Jones

Wingnuts • Views: 4,243

One of the most personally disturbing and saddening aspects of the ongoing right wing meltdown for me has been the utter disintegration of Pajamas Media, which started with the idea of being a non-partisan blog-based news source, but has now completed its transformation into one of the most insane wingnut sites on the Internet.

On any given day at Pajamas Media, you’ll find them featuring the writing of creationists, white supremacists (read: Robert Stacy McCain), anti-Muslim bigots, and climate change deniers. And now they’ve crossed that final Rubicon, and gone all the way into conspiracy theory territory, by publishing a ludicrous, completely false article by a writer named Christopher Horner, claiming that a Spanish global warming denier was sent a dismantled bomb by a solar panel manufacturer.

LGF operative Killgore Trout has already debunked this bogus story here.

But there’s more here than simply another false story, because Pajamas Media contributor Christopher Horner is also a very frequent contributor to the website of antisemitic 9/11 Truther wacko Alex Jones, apparently specializing in dishonest pieces about global warming.

So there you have it. Pajamas Media, the company I helped start, is now sharing contributors with the most batshit insane conspiracy theorist in America. Hope you’re proud, Roger.

I'm sorry you had to learn the hard way how hateful the right wing is. It's easy for me, having always been somewhat of a liberal, to say "I could have told you so", but I started from a point of mistrust of the right. I saw the unhinging of the right coming years ago.

It's not prescience, really, it's just that I never really gave them the benefit of the doubt. You have a lot more generosity of soul in that department Charles, and while it might sting, it's not at all a flaw in judgement.

You wanted to see the best in people, and that is nothing but a good thing.

They're all grateful and everything, though.

Charles Johnson – Co-founder
Charles Johnson – musician and editor of the Little Green Footballs weblog – co-founded Pajamas Media in 2005. Although he has not been part of the company since early 2007, Pajamas is grateful to Charles for helping us get started.

Then comes the "Web design by" part, and it names a company whose website is on WordPress. Looks like PJM doesn't even have a CTO any more. But they do have a "Technical Advisor and Manager of Ad Operations".

I won't get into the science editor's resume.

Fozzie- this isn't about a left/right divide. Hate and stupid are equal opportunity and there is more than enough evidence to back that up.

This is about the implosion of PJM a once credible source that has gone by the wayside. If anything, the lesson is a warning. Partisan reality is not reality, wherever it originates.

4 edmigper  Sat, Jun 26, 2010 1:57:14pm

Maybe. Just maybe... Pajamas Media was serious and honest about being a "non-partisan blog-based news source" and still is--in their minds. Perhaps they think that what they perceive to be "non-partisan blog-based news" is just that and the rest is so extreme.

Indeed.

But it is too bad - Charles put a lot of work into this back in the day (way back when i couldn't land an open reg window to save my life). It's hard to see an endeavor fade away.

Horner is playing the stooge here. The story originated with Dr. Gabriel Calzada, a global warming skeptic and fellow at the Ludwig von Mises Institute.

[Link: www.sourcewatch.org...]

Calzada is the author of the report that claimed the US would lose 2.2 jobs for every green job created if they followed Spain's green energy program.

Understood.

In the end, business is business. PJM decided low end was a better model for them than upscale.

LGF never downgraded the way PJM did. The visions and ideology were incompatible.

What's so frustrating about the bomb story is that it was so obviously fake. The solar panel company mailed a bomb using their own return address and instead of calling the police the global warming denier hires his own bomb disposal experts and never call the police at all? C'mon, that's just plain stupid.

There's no excuse for the association with Alex Jones. Conservatives never would have tolerated such insanity 2 years ago. We all drew attention to the 9-11 truthers at Dkos and antiwar rallies and laughed. I have no idea why today's wingnuts think they aren't going to be subjected to the same ridicule.

Yes. So much of the internet has replaced the old Weekly World News, The National Enquirer, etc. Fringe entertainment that some people took seriously.

Also, the old religious/right wing/financial newsletters that used to circulate... that was a business too. In the days before email and the web one could start a newsletter business by targeting select groups of people and writing whatever they wanted to hear, truth be damned.

Ridicule and mockery are the best strategies for the idiots who push the 911 conspiracy. I'm long past trying to be civil in those conversations. My goal now is to make them look like complete imbeciles and get them stuttering and muttering to themselves. Which is easy to do and fun.

Horner and the organization for which he works, CEI, are reasons (along with many others, like Lew Rockwell) why "libertarianism" has attained such a low standing in my eyes (and not just mine.)

There is an intellectual bankruptcy, besides the moral one, that these folk have.

I know there are other self-declared "libertarians" who want to be both honest and insightful. Yet like with so many groups it is the slimy that maneuver themselves into the spotlight, draw the attention, and finally debase whatever organization with which they associate.

It just occurred to me you are describing pretty much the entire fringe elements. You can replace 'libertarians' with 'anarchists' and you end up in the same gutter. Each group hijacks 'individual rights' as if that were the Holy Grail.

The rest of us mean nothing to them. We're the ones being exploited.

Charles doesn't sift through RSM's tweets; Stinky farms that job out to Lizards in Good Standing with less than 50 Karma Points/1 year of service. Teaches them how things work around here, gives them a way to contribute, and keeps food on the table.

Mr. Johnson-

Regular reader, first-time commenter. At the end of your post, you cracked, "Hope you’re proud, Roger."

Roger Simon's poisonous Obama-hatred is one of the many reasons I'm glad you continue to call your old colleague out. I have a couple of questions, though: first, has he ever responded to you, at this blog or anywhere else, since you broke ranks? Finally, any insight into what's going on with the guy? He's my top gauge of the right's nuttiness, and I think he's the right pick for that considering the fact that he calls "mainstream" GOPers like Fred Thompson and Rick Perry friends.

No. I wrote to him last year to complain that comments were being posted at PJ Media saying that I was having sex with my mother (yes, really). He replied that I was being "too sensitive," and didn't delete those comments or block the person who posted them.

That told me everything I needed to know.

Finally, any insight into what's going on with the guy?

Money.

I stopped taking those guys seriously, when they published article, where someone was accusing James Cameron for being responsible for increasing terror alert in the UK with his "Avatar" flick.

Really.

BTW: before that I was more and more embarrassed by their blatant partisanship.
