“But for the present age, which prefers the sign to the thing signified, the copy to the original, representation to reality, appearance to essence … truth is considered profane, and only illusion is sacred. Sacredness is in fact held to be enhanced in proportion as truth decreases and illusion increases, so that the highest degree of illusion comes to be the highest degree of sacredness.”

WASHINGTON—Saying they didn’t want to waste any more time dicking around, members of the U.S. Senate began Elena Kagan’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing Monday by asking the solicitor general point-blank if she had the goods to join the nation’s highest court…

Now, now, Representative Democracy is the basis of the Constitution. Every six years the good people of West By God Virginia had the opportunity to kick his ass out. They didn’t. Their choice, not some Big Government intrusion on their right to elect who they wanted to represent them.

The best part is they had to replace the motherboard. Had they discovered that the last time I sent it in, they would have charged me for it. But because it fried a few days after they sent it back from a paid (480 dollar after I talked them into a 300 dollar discount) service, they had to make it work for free. Convention ends, new Idaho GOP platform set
“By the close of the Idaho GOP state convention today, members had adopted a platform with a new loyalty test for candidates, a provision recommending Idaho withhold taxes from the federal government, (yeah right, lets see how far you get with that, idiots) a bid to limit marriage to “naturally born” men and women and an admonishment to Idahoans to stock up on gold and silver.”

the still breaking story of the russian spy ring represents a potentially good opportunity for Obama to put some pressure on putin/medvedev to help us with iran. Obama and his peeps need to handle this correctly and make the russians know how embarrassing they can make this for the kremlin. Then maybe we can get those former (and maybe future) communists to give us something for once.

Tea Party convention canceled because organizers learned it is hot in the desert during July.
A planned “unity” convention for tea partiers is being pushed to the fall, with organizers scrapping a major gathering with just 19 days before it was scheduled to go off. They cited heat and not being professional event planners, but the abrupt change in plans without a new date firmed up doesn’t bode well for the fledgling group.
Tea Party Nation announced in an email to members this weekend that their “unity” convention, planned for July 15-17 in Las Vegas, would be delayed. Organizers didn’t give a new date, but said in an email obtained by TPM they think holding it closer to the midterm elections would help the movement’s “momentum.” It’s not clear yet if keynote speaker Senate nominee Sharron Angle (R-NV) will still be attending or if anyone who already booked rooms at the ritzy Palazzo where the convention was to be held or who paid the $399 registration fee will get refunds.

Interesting. It grants you the right to have a weapon (pistol) in your home. But it doesn’t prevent the State (50 of them and what? 2 Territories ) from implementing rules on how they must be stored/secured. Many ambiguities. Until the lower Courts (re)rule, and are challenged it’s still up in the air.
I can see/predict that some of them will rule, yes you can have it in your home, but, it must be unloaded, ammo stored separately and a trigger lock installed. Basically, rendering it useless.
Thank the Deities (if you believe) above I live in a weapons friendly State.

Eh, since the right to self-defense with the gun is the fundamental point, i doubt it can go quite that far. More likely it’ll be restrictions on where you can take them, no?
