She's still insisting that there are jobs out there, but people aren't taking them because they don't pay enough.

Refusing to extend unemployment because we can't pay for it is a legitimate stand (whether it's right is another question), but to argue that it spoils people brings you into fruitcake asshole territory in my book.

That's what we have illegal aliens for. Ask a chicken farmer.

If you add the cost of paying dickdoodlysquat to desperate Mexicans to to shit jobs + the cost of unemployment payments to Americans, it still works out to less for Wal-Mart and the marginally employed people who buy their chicken there than paying a living wage + benefits to Americans who might do those same jobs if they were treated right.

Do the math.

A Smoking Gun in the Kagan Case? (Powerline)

Shannen Coffin was a deputy attorney general during the Bush administration, and was charged with defending the federal partial-birth abortion act in court. At National Review, he writes that documents released by the Clinton White House show Elena Kagan's "willingness to manipulate medical science to fit the Democratic party's political agenda on the hot-button issue of abortion." The account, if it is true, is a shocking one.

I don't think it's fair to blame Palin for this. She's too stupid to have created this and she just stumbled into her celebrity status. Remember Fred Thompson? He was loved for his grandpa on the porch style folksy "wisdom" delivered with a rural accent.
The American right has created a fetish for rural anti-intellectualism and now we're paying the price. It's the conservative base to blame for this, nobody could have possibly created this by design.

Powerline wouldn't know a real issue if it bit them on the ass. There's no outrages to be had. Kagan is a liberal, and I would not vote for her as a Senator. But neither am I going to get worked up about it either. She's Obama's choice and he's the president. Elections have consequences and she's one of them.

That would be a fun list to be on. Do you have the contact information to be on that list... or do you know how I can get it?

There are several of these lists, and I wouldn't know how you could get on them. Try John Boehner's site -- his office constantly spews out talking points for the right wing.

re: #100 Charles

And by the way, there's a reason why you always see right wing blogs start screaming about the same bogus stories at the same time. The GOP has mailing lists that give them their marching orders, and they all start marching every time.

This talking point came straight from the GOP.

They put me on their lists a long time ago (without my consent) and now I watch as every single stupid talking point is instantly adopted by the wingnut blogs within minutes of the email.

Dan Reihl was bitching something about that earlier today. Somebody from Boehner's campaign insulted him or something. It was too complicated/stupid for me to figure out.

I get that GOPUSA newsletter...they're not connected with the Party, but they sure spout the Teabagger line incessantly. One of their latest subject lines was something like "O'Reilly says Obama could be impeached for amnesty plan" or something like that. And this was several days after the "outrageous outrage" over the "amnesty by executive order" nontroversy.

They're expecting a 2-3 foot surge with 8-10 foot waves in the gulf coast, last I heard. Enough to push oil into the bayous. The good news is that some of the oil will break up in the rough water, but that'll only offer temporary respite.

Yep. Well, there's no helping it. but since there will be no direct hit, BP's ships can continue to capture the oil, won't have to move out of the way. If a storm comes this way - that capturing operation has to shut down.

The amazingly wonderful Dutch skimmers would not have performed miracles.
Some oil was going to reach the shore. Period.
It's actually an amazingly small amount that's reaching the shore. We don't like what's here, and would like to see it gone, and it's catastrophic as it is, but it could be a lot worse. But it isn't, because a lot of good people are working their butts off in less than pleasant working conditions to make sure it's doesn't get as bad as it could be.

The Gulf Coast situation would not miraculously have been reduced to nothing if the Dutch skimmers had been here.

Planned Parenthood, with an annual budget in excess of $1 billion, is using millions of your tax dollars to finance abortion "mega-marts" across the nation. Meanwhile, as I write you, Elena Kagan is moving perilously close to confirmation in the Senate. We cannot risk another pro-abortion justice with a lifetime appointment - not during the greatest expansion of abortion in America since Roe v. Wade.

It's drama that doesn't suck. Best way to put it. There's so little left nowdays. Glenn Close plays an extremely ballsy... no other way to say it.... and very powerful attorney in NYC, who is involved in a six-degrees-of-separation way with most of the other actors. There's murder, extortion, corporate skullduggery that makes BP look angelic..... it requires some concentration to follow. Well worth it, so of course, ratings sucked.

Besides, a person who loses a high paying job is NOT going to be satisfied with 'entry level employment' wages. That level of income is NOT going to support the same lifestyle a high-paying job would support.

I've had fast food places serve a decent bowl of it (Hungry? in Rolling Meadows has a such a decent French Onion) and I've had very high end restaurants that whose French Onion was a failure, either because they put in far too much bread or made it too strong. So its really about the individual place. If you want a chain that does it right, Wildfire has excellent French Onion.

Let me compare and contrast some things about the GOP here that just occurred to me.

The GOP's version of a respectable lady: Using Palin, Angle and the Gun Twit from Az as examples:

Conspiracy loons
Uneducated (and proudly so)
Jesus Freaks
Uncaring for poor people
Uncaring about the environment
No particular policy ideas
Rabidly anti woman's rights
Pretty, in a teased hair, too much make up, trashy shiksa kind of way

And they call these ladies by honorifics and think the are just swell.

Now let's look at Kagan

Considered even tempered and fair by both sides of the aisle (before she became a target)
Not only extremely well educated, but brilliant and highly qualified
Secular Jewish
Compassionate for the poor
No record of hating the environment
Career history with policy and the law pertaining to it
Feminist (in an educated and strong professional woman sort of way)
Kinda plump (but more about being competent and kick ass than dolling up for the camera, in other words, a woman with a real spine)

And the GOP calls her a lesbian (as if she were - she isn't it - and as if that is an insult -it isn't) a baby killer (no not at all) and a Marxist (which she absolutely is not - not that the GOP could define Marxism in any case).

So in other words, the GOP is deeply offended by women with actual competence and ability, but vapid wannabe beauty contestants who can't tell you where most nations are on a map are models of womanhood.

That would be one of the more strong reasons I hate the GOP.

Goodnight, folks. Think I've explored every angle I'm going to tonight.... play nice.

I would be thrilled to see John Dingell and John Conyers in the unemployment line. Of course, they'd have to bring along someone who could actually fill out the application for them. I'd volunteer.

I'll let you take that one up with my mom :) Not that she has anything against shiksappeal - just them appealing to me ;)

284 BongCrodny  Tue, Jun 29, 2010 8:43:38pm

Angle is right: I am testament to the wickedness of unemployment compensation recipients.

I'm sitting here right now in my palatial one-bedroom apartment (it must be palatial, because I'm paying THIRTEEN HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS A MONTH for about seven hundred square feet of luxury unimaginable to the lay person) enjoying a snifter of 1787 Chateau d'Yquem and and an 18-oz. portion of Kobe beef, all paid from the blood, sweat and galt of American enterprise.

Okay, okay -- so it's a Pepsi and a ham sandwich -- but it's pretty damn good ham!

I am making so much money on unemployment that I now have the latitude to conduct intense financial transactions over the telephone. Today, for example, I negotiated a sweetheart deal wherein the electric company gave me two extra weeks to pay my bill. Following that, I called the gas company and took part in incredibly complex negotiations for the same type of deal.

My life wasn't like this four months ago. The new lifestyle is certainly a lot more interesting than when I was employed, but it's nothing I'd recommend to anyone else.

Sharron Angle can go suck a rock.

Actually, I like that too. (blush) We're working class after all! Oh great, now I'm gonna be called a Marxist.

OMG!!!! Don't you know they worked HARD FOR THEIR MONEY and how DARE you stick your hand into another man's pocket?
Why won't you go get an "HONEST" job?

I can think of other things that Angle can do besides suck rocks....

Notice how she keeps saying "Harry Reid, Harry Reid, Harry Reid."

This is a political adviser's idea. She's not smart enough to come up with it herself.

Whatever she's paying her advisors, it's way too much.

re: #91 Dark_Falcon

He is a good bit smarter, also (to be fair). Idiots don't make it out of medical school.

That reminds me of this old joke:

Q: What do you call someone who graduated last in their class from medical school?
A: Doctor.

293 Mich-again  Tue, Jun 29, 2010 9:45:19pm

hmm. I need to figure this out here. A couple statements from Angle.

Angle: You know, I’m a Christian and I believe that God has a plan and a purpose for each one of our lives and that he can intercede in all kinds of situations and we need to have a little faith in many things
She'd vote no...

The Republican Angle told Chicago radio station WLS-AM that the former Harvard Law School dean lacks judicial experience and would waiver from a strict interpretation of the Constitution.

If God has a plan, then who needs a stinking Constitution?

The crazies are merging. Gathering strength.
RUN FOR THE HILLS.
Freaking scary times we are living in.

"I detest fleeing! I would rather die fighting!"

"He's right! Predacons, unite!"

"Tornatron, face....Predaking! To the end!"

(Bonus marks to anyone who gets that one.)

What do you call a person who was last in his class in med school? Doctor.

Maybe, but having a Doctor in front of your name doesn't always make you smart, compassionate, or even sane.

And, a real estate agent!

Jon Stewart put it best. "If you ever want to sue over a botched root canel and use the money for the downpayment on your condo, she's your gall."

Seriously, the prevalence of people with advanced degrees and lucrative careers leading the Wingnut wave confirms my suspicions that the Tea Party is a backlash by the haves against gains made by the have-nots.

re: #19 Cato the Elder

That's what we have illegal aliens for. Ask a chicken farmer.

If you add the cost of paying dickdoodlysquat to desperate Mexicans to to shit jobs + the cost of unemployment payments to Americans, it still works out to less for Wal-Mart and the marginally employed people who buy their chicken there than paying a living wage + benefits to Americans who might do those same jobs if they were treated right.

Do the math.

Also I think you have to add in the fact that the illegals aren't gonna call the FDA/USDA to rat out employers for violating safety and sanitation rules, which causes increased food borne illness problems.
