I love all the 'citation needed's in his Wiki entry.

Publishers Weekly described Alien Agenda as "the most entertaining and complete overview of flying saucers and their crew in years". The paperback edition was released in mid-1998. It has been translated into several foreign languages and become the top-selling UFO book in the world.[citation needed]

Once again, the international mime conspiracy is able to foist another of their schemes off on the banking community, thanks to the work of mime sympathizers like Marrs.

Today, many researchers believe these panics were artificially created as a pretext for the “reforms.”

Great closing line, and a perfect example of how these things work.

"many researchers" with no references or examples. Its like he's saying 'believe me because I state it so definitively!"

Seriously, though, even though this particular banking conspiracy isn't about the Jews, most of them are. The Paulians, Dominionists, and other Tea Party conspiracy types are making a serious swing towards a new brand of antisemitism, where any Jew who isn't in Israel is suspect.

26 Kragar  Tue, Jul 13, 2010 3:58:25pm

Another conspiracy: Gravity.

It might not be real

Erik Verlinde, 48, a respected string theorist and professor of physics at the University of Amsterdam, whose contention that gravity is indeed an illusion has caused a continuing ruckus among physicists, or at least among those who profess to understand it. Reversing the logic of 300 years of science, he argued in a recent paper, titled “On the Origin of Gravity and the Laws of Newton,” that gravity is a consequence of the venerable laws of thermodynamics, which describe the behavior of heat and gases.

“For me gravity doesn’t exist,” said Dr. Verlinde, who was recently in the United States to explain himself. Not that he can’t fall down, but Dr. Verlinde is among a number of physicists who say that science has been looking at gravity the wrong way and that there is something more basic, from which gravity “emerges,” the way stock markets emerge from the collective behavior of individual investors or that elasticity emerges from the mechanics of atoms.

Looking at gravity from this angle, they say, could shed light on some of the vexing cosmic issues of the day, like the dark energy, a kind of anti-gravity that seems to be speeding up the expansion of the universe, or the dark matter that is supposedly needed to hold galaxies together.

I think some of the banking stuff IS totally a giant racist dog whistle, but I also think there are completely non-racist people (I know my share of conspiracy theorists who are lovable hippy types, this is Portland after all) who just devour the Art Bell line and are simply freaked out by giant institutions they don't understand that control the flow of currency.

I think once it leaves the province of "dude who makes beaded jewelry in SE PDX and drives a VW squareback and really likes HAM radio" and enters the province of "guy who's running for congress and making speeches" then it's full on racism.

Now I'm reminded of the guy at my karaoke bar who totally foiled my gaydar, and also believes the stuff about how reptilian aliens control the government. Not even kidding, two beers in him and out come the reptiles!

Another conspiracy: Gravity.

It might not be real

For the record, you are talking about interactions of the bulk membrane. For want of a better way of phrasing, gravity becomes something that bleeds across dimensions. It is a view that comes from joining information theory, holography and M theory.

This is all super abstract theory, which at this point has no way to be tested directly. It is also one of those topics that is so abstract, that it is impossible for any MSM source to have a prayer of saying anything even approximating the actual argument. Don't even try unless you are conversant in topology and abstract geometry.

For those who are interested in tracking all of this down a little, wiki bulk membrane, graviton and Kalubi-Yau manifold.

Health-care reform raised the possibility that birth control could soon be free for most women. But not if conservative activists have their way. Dana Goldstein reports.

I got this via Balloon Juice and I agree with Cole's dismay:
I can’t tell you how excited I am at the prospect of a debate over birth control in the year 2010. Do these religious nuts not have anything better to do than to fight battles they lost decades ago? How about a stirring debate on heliocentrism or phlogiston?

Although I guess we should appreciate the irony that the wingnuts spent the last two years screaming that Obamacare would cut your benefits and lead to rationing, and then after it passes, the first thing the religious nutters try to do is… cut the benefits of half the nation.

As much as I love Deus Ex and Bioshock, I've been won over by the sandbox approach of games like Fallout and Oblivion.

I like both, I like a tight atmospheric game, and I like the run-around-and-cause-havoc open-ended stuff. Sandbox games are more "work" if that makes any sense, whereas a game like Bioshock where you're essentially on rails, you can enjoy the little things and just groove on the presentation and the atmosphere.

And I like endlessly tweaking my 80's Firebird in Forza to be the ultimate undrivable drift horror :D

Toyota May Not Be at Fault in Accelerations
[Link: www.foxbusiness.com...]

A selection of Department of Transportation data taken from investigated Toyota (TM) vehicles reportedly show driver error caused the vehicle's sudden acceleration and eventual crash, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

The data, compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and not Toyota, show that some drivers who reported sudden out-of-control acceleration mistakenly floored the accelerator when they intended to hit the breaks, the Journal said.
....
According to the Journal, of the 3,000 complaints of sudden acceleration in Toyota vehicles, only one was caused by a problem in the vehicle. That crash was the one that killed the California highway patrolman in August last year that eventually moved Toyota's recalls to the front pages.

1 of 3000. Wow, the power of poor driving mixed with mass hysteria.

NAACP Passes Tea Party Racism Resolution

The NAACP has passed a resolution condemning racism in the Tea Party movement.

The resolution was approved in a vote by more than 2,000 delegates at the annual convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in Kansas City.

Versions of the resolution condemned "explicitly racist behavior" in the Tea Party movement and called on people to "repudiate" what it described as racist elements of the Tea Party. The final text of the resolution has not yet been made available, however, and that language may have changed.

[...]

The original NAACP resolution, submitted by the group's Kansas City branch, said the Tea Party movement has "displayed signs and posters intended to degrade people of color generally and President Barack Obama specifically."

It condemned "racist elements" of the movement as "a threat to progress" and referenced instances in which black congressmen said they were verbally and physically abused by Tea Party activists.

Although many persons, including Jackson, believed Lawrence was part of a larger conspiracy, at the time there was no evidence to prove whether he was merely a lone-nut assassin or an early-day patsy somehow manipulated into attacking Jackson, an implacable enemy of the international bankers. However, it might be worth noting that in two successful presidential assassinations—those of Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy— both men were attempting to thwart the international bankers— Lincoln by issuing his own money, greenbacks, and Kennedy in bypassing the Fed with U.S. notes in 1963.

Umm---like, wow!

Stepping suddenly from behind a pillar, Lawrence pulled two pistols but both misfired, most likely due to damp powder. Lawrence was swiftly wrestled to the ground by onlookers, including Congressman Davy Crockett aided by Jackson. At his trial, Lawrence was prosecuted by Francis Scott Key, author of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The jury took only five minutes to find Lawrence insane and he spent the rest of his life in mental institutions, dying in 1861.

So, if I've heard the dogwhistles right, Davey Crockett and Francis Scott Keys and Andrew Jackson thwarted the cabal, taking the side of Truth, Justice, and the American Way against "tweeieieeieieeieeieieee---International Bankers.

I am slow to convict a writer of dogwhistling, but this one comes over all too loud and clear.

Besides, Mr. Marr's has it wrong. Everybody knows that Lee Harvey Oswald was hired by the Oyambun, acting through the Masons and the Vatican, who suborned crucial organs of the KGB into hiring Lee Harvey Oswald to take the fall so that the real killers, Martians, would go unidentified.

201 marsl  Tue, Jul 13, 2010 5:40:02pm

"The peeler is great! How come you don't make a shaver?
Too dangerous! A metal razor blade has a relatively "rounded" edge (under the microscope) which prevents the blade from cutting into the skin. A ceramic razor blade, however, does not have a rounded edge and slices into the skin. Thus, a ceramic shaver would be too dangerous to use. Several engineers in Sendai who tested prototypes can confirm this painful fact!"

re: #143 WindUpBird

Torment is sort of in between, really! It's got an emphasis on story and a much tighter and less sandboxey design than, say, Baldur's Gate, you're always close to the story track, but the story track is a series of hubs.

re: #130 JasonA

Oh, those games definitely have something going for them, and I do appreciate the tighter narrative they can accomplish with that. But they don't seem to offer the same types of choices, which have consequences, that you get in a game like, say... Torment.

Baldur's Gate rocked! Well, BG2, never played the first. There's much to be said about engrossing storytelling and dialogue, but I usually prefer the "series of hubs" concept, preferably with extensive use of the RNG (which can be very hard to pull off). In the end, even the series of hubs may not be enough for you -- and that's when you turn to roguelikes.

re: #200 HoosierHoops

Those ceramic knives have a serrated cutting edge. I notice that they do not offer a smooth honed edged knife. This is just an uneducated guess, the ceramic is too brittle to make into a razor that would be thin and sharp enough to cut facial hair. Can you imagine the damage to your face if small pieces of the blade broke off?

What is the difference between furries and plushies?

Plushies are just actual plush toys. You know, stuffed animals you buy at Toys R Us or wherever. Nobody in the fandom calls anyone a "plushie". It's like me calling someone a hot wheels car or a Gameboy. Some Tv shows sorta ran with "plushie" as a thing that identifies fandom participants, but they got it wrong.

Furries are the people, fans in the fandom. :D

We cannot break the laws of physics!!!
But we can rewrite them on occasion.

I remember a story I read years ago (by Heinlein?) in which the legislature of Alabama has just repealed the laws of physics. Every time I read about the Texas BOE and similar creationist wackos, I think that the author was prescient.
