The Johnston-Palin Convergence

Weird • Views: 2,619

Isn’t it wonderful when a self-proclaimed “f-ckin’ redneck” and the unwed mother of his child finally patch things up and decide to get hitched? I just love happy endings: Bristol Palin, Levi Johnston Are Engaged!

I wonder when they’re planning to let Sarah know? Oh, wait!

I have just the music to go with this announcement: Ben Folds’s tribute to Levi Johnston.

Okay cynics out there: how long will the marriage last?

I suspect Levi will not be allowed to torpedo it until after the 2012 elections...

The age of celebrity. You get paid to announce your engagement on a tabloid rag.

Levi's hotter than Luke.

Haven't we heard this particular will they or won't they song and dance once before? Not to belittle youth needing some time to figure things out before making a major decision in their live but this entire thing is starting to sound like something out of a sitcom/soap opera!

15 iceweasel  Wed, Jul 14, 2010 9:29:01am

heh. This is why Levi issued that heartfelt apology for all his earlier claims about Palin last week, remember?

i bet they're going to have some interesting thanksgiving dinners.

Levi johnson's sister started a blog a month or so ago and she and bristol don't get along very well, to say the least, or so it seems...hee.

The soap opera won't end!

39 webevintage  Wed, Jul 14, 2010 9:35:55am

Of course my cynical side notes that Sarah has been out of the news for a few weeks and this will keep her out and visible for months as morons on the 24/7channels report each and everything that happens between the two young folks.
And when the inevitable "ugly" comments start then Palin will have a reason to tweet and/or give a speech about "Grizzly Mamas" and how her family is being pick on and yadda yadda yadda.....

BUT I want to see the positive side today.

Lord knows...they're a couple of kids, and there's a lot of pressure on them already. Let's hope it's happy for as long as it does last, and maybe they'll get lucky and spend the next seventy years chuckling about that awful year when Bristol was pregnant with Tripp and Grandma was running for VP.

41 Targetpractice  Wed, Jul 14, 2010 9:37:06am

I'd like to believe it's real, but the cynic in me is screaming "Follow the money!" After all these months of pimping himself out to whichever media outlet would pay the most and spreading the dirty laundry out for all to see, I find it hard to believe that he'd suddenly allow himself to be roped back into this dog and pony show. Nothing I've seen up to this point makes me believe that Sarah doesn't have a very short leash on Bristol and would allow her to pursue Levi again without some form of permission or blessing.

Or maybe it's the caffeine talking, I don't know.

Good point, but I think it's a means to keep Levi on the reservation. Can you imagine him doing the talk shows during her presidential run if he were still in single and bitter mode?

Sounds about right. I'm willing to be that Sarah has either paid out or promised to pay out good money if Levi keeps up this charade through 2012, with a healthy bonus to keep it going longer if she wins.

Yes... the things that were said on both ides to me seemed to pretty much salt the earth. It might not be explicit it terms of money, but job/opportunity very plausible.

and heck, if Levi thinks Palin can win, then being the loving daddy of the President's grandson is better than being the estranged lone-wolf outsider.

It may be that or may simply be that the gravy train that's been sustaining him all this time has run off the rails and he needs a new source of income. What would be more reliable and plentiful than mooching off "Grizzly Mama" while mugging for the cameras on occasion?

It's not actually all that bad a year if you had a child you wanted. Especially if, looking back, it all worked out and the father decided to kick in and ante up and tie the knot and do his part in raising it.

It will last decades. That's my bet. The mother's marriage has lasted. Say what you will about Todd and Sarah, they're by-gum married. Whether it's a matter of nature or nurture, the odds favor Bristol and Levi.

And why would Levi want to torpedo this marriage? Bristol is easy on the eyes, fertile, brighter than the average bear, and spunky. They have a child together already. If he's thinking straight, he'll figure, in for a penny, in for a pound.

I agree. I read one article about how they talked during child custody battles, and realized they still had strong feelings for each other. I think, had it not been for the 2008 campaign and the sudden submersion into the public eye, they would have married the first time. This could be good for them. Hopefully, they'll skim enough financial stability/support from mama grizzly to pay for college educations for both of them and be able to pursue actual productive lives and carreers.

58 filetandrelease  Wed, Jul 14, 2010 11:12:37am

I am a little surprised she took him back, that being said, best wishes to them and their family.

59 theheat  Wed, Jul 14, 2010 11:13:09am

My mother gave us girl some precious advice when we were young: marry an orphan.

Try as we might, we couldn't find any suitable orphans. As with anything, odds of finding decent in-laws are about 50-50. My sister made out like a bandit, and hers is great. Mine is probably pretty typical, just being a little nuts. But I'd take her any day over the Palins. Better yet, mine lives across state and hates to drive. Hot dog, I hit pay dirt.

Congratulations to Bristol and Levi. Together, they can write all new chapters to that literary classic, Tobacco Road. Momma Grizzly can keep beating her political aspirations drum, unfettered by an unwed mother for a daughter who preaches abstinence for appearance money, and the daughter's hillbilly ex-boyfriend-turned-fiance who runs his mouth while posing with his pants around his ankles. The kidlets can now hump (legal and all) with the blessings of the church, and Sarah can wipe that little bit of egg off her face, if only for awhile. And who says God doesn't have a plan?

My bestest golf clap for happy endings.
